Oh, you will also be able to choose what Contact hands out your story arc, or create your own Contact in the same manner as you would create a character or a boss.
[/ QUOTE ]
Create new contacts to hand out missions? I wonder if the streets will be lined with these. Seems like potential to have 'too many' contacts.
[/ QUOTE ]
Based on what they've said elsewhere, Mission Architect arcs won't be gotten from a contact on a street, but you go to a special arcade/communications center and talk via a panel of some sort.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's not what is implied in the response given. Created in the same way as you'd create a character or boss is what got my attention.
[/ QUOTE ]
Of course, that might just mean you get to customize the little head that pops up when you call them on the computer.
EDIT: I'm REALLY glad to hear custom contacts are a part of the MA now instead of a stretch goal. It was going to be rather awkward trying to write every story into something Azuria would care about. -
Welcome. I assume you'll be instituting a new Peacebringers are uber policy now that you've gone mad with power?

Question: Do you think there will ever be missions where all our time traveling has caused some change to the timeline? In comics there has been alot of repercussions when people alter time, IE. Days of Futures past in the X-Men, The Sphinx storyline in the New Warriors, Age of Apocalypse, etc and that's in the Marvel Universe. Will we see altered world soon as part of the ongoing Roman arc? I see Malta and 5th, this can't bode well for the modern world as we know of.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thus far, all of our meddling in Rome has followed more of the "it happens because that's what happened" style of time travel than the Back to the Future, "I stepped on a butterfly and my hand disappeared" style. -
Fantastic news. Can't wait to see the Valkyrie set. I assume it's not just the existing tech armor with a spear, right?
-
Interesting. Sounds like there's not going to be a whole lot of new missions, but they sound fun regardless. If nothing else, I'm glad to see hero and villain missions are being written separate this time around. Should ensure we get a more antagonist arc villain-side.
-
Looks like a good system. 1 year for all the badges seems like a pretty straightforward design. Shouldn't be too hard to do, particularly if you have a lot of alts. Two thoughts:
- What's the unit these are tracked in, or, more specifically, what "counts"? If I log off for an hour do I get 1/720th of a badge or do I have to be logged out for a full day?
- Fashion Designer seems a little wrong the villain side simply because of the flavor of their Tailor. Plastic Surgeon or ID Maker seems a little more fitting. -
Incredible. Fantastically detailed, great music, superb!
-
Happy about the helmets. Those have been absent for far too long. The second power thing is fine. It makes the choice less of a problem when you REALLY want both of something but doesn't leave out the choice completely. I really don't expect better and better vet stuff honestly, and exclusive costumes always make me sad for newbies (I have a boxing fanatic friend who hates me due to this).
Not the most exciting new stuff ever, but kinda cool regardless. -

Still no joy for the Base?! When are we gonna get some of the pronlems addressed with the current Base system and when are we gonna get some new decorations?!
Bases should be an intregal part of the game and yet over and over they are ignored and we are left with a very buggy design with limited options.
Give us the ability to have BASE NPC Butlers and Bartenders! Take away the useless Hologram Pets and give us something we want.
[/ QUOTE ]
Base updates are apparently on the schedule for Issue 13.
[ QUOTE ]
2) I love the idea of the Event Messages but they need to be a different color than NPC CHAT and they need to be in the Lower Chat Window. Better yet - Alerts need to be in a fixed position at the top of the screen.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you want the alerts in the lower window... add them to the lower window. I don't think they need to be a permanent spam anywhere on the screen though. -
I'm going to guess there's a major exploit fix in this patch. It's honestly the only reason this patch should have gone live without some tweaks first. There's some major changes that didn't get nearly ironed out. Night Widow changes are buggy and is Hover still as fast as Fly? Even the Stalker changes have a tweak coming up according to Castle.
So, what was so game breaking that this had to go live? -
So much to do this week. Earn some costumes, fix some builds, going to be busy.

Seeing as Issue 12 is in open beta now (here in the UK at least, not sure on the timings over there in the States) City of Data has been updated for Issue 12.
Please let me know any oddities you spot, either here, or on my own forum, as I've made some substantial changes to the code for this 3rd edition of CoD to make the display of powers with multiple similar effects a lot more readable (well I hope so at least).
[/ QUOTE ]
Awesome work. I can't tell you how often I abuse this site.
One minor complaint about the new format. You've compressed a lot of values which improves readability, particularly for redundant powers (DEF All is noticeably easier to read), but it makes it a little easy to miss damage values. When you've got a 50/50 split it's easy to miss the "X damage Smashing, Lethal" and just assume it does half the damage its supposed to. I've made this mistake at least 6 times so far, most recently in thinking Crab Spider Frenzy is the worst attack in the set.
Anyway, small complaint. Thanks for the awesome work! -

More and more this Contextual Dialog sounds more and more like an excellent new tool that will greatly benefit the depth of the game - can't wait to see its full results in I12 and thereafter!
[/ QUOTE ]
Of course, given the number of people that actually read the text in the game...
My whole plot revolves around magic, so this story should drive most of my characters forward nicely. I'm really looking forward to it, particularly the contextual dialog. -

I only noticed one tinny lil problem....you marked June 20th as the beging of summer. isn't it supposed to be the 21st.
[/ QUOTE ]
This year, summer starts on June 20th.
[/ QUOTE ]
The catch this year is that the actual solstice is at midnight GMT on the 21st. Which makes it 3pm on the 20th here on the west coast.

No it can't it mussen't....my birthday is supposed to be the first day of summer...not the day after....

Full of awesome. My computer's wallpaper is set for quite a while it seems.
EDIT: Next week? I'm out of town next weekOh well, lots of stuff to read then, eh?

Wow. Free slots even. Well, you've officially relapsed my altitis.

ninjitsu scrappers would have been cool, theme wise also fits well
[/ QUOTE ]
Not a bad idea. I think they'd look great with a katana.
[/ QUOTE ]
The only problem would be finding a power to replace Caltrops. The devs thus far haven't let us get into a situation where we can take a power twice. Other than that, Ninjitsu would be a neat set. -

Well snore, snore.
There is some stuff to look forward to here, especially on the Brute side of things, but after all this hype I was expecting a LOT more cross over types. I wanted (as have others I know and play with) to see some more Corruptor/Blaster Proliferation for one thing. How about some Rad/Rad Blaster love or Dark/Dark for that matter?
A decent start so far, but nothing to get all worked up about. Hopefully it's just a start and more will follow.
More=Better in this case.
And ease up a little there _Hush_. Red side did get a little short changed this go round, but as it has been pointed out here already, Red side has had much better powers overall from their very beginning.

They said each AT was getting one new set weeks ago. Shortly after the concept was first announced actually.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well that is a good point, though they actually said "an" rather than "one" additonal new primary and new secondary.
Brutes got 2 new primaries.
Besides, a man can dream can't he?
Sasheem
[/ QUOTE ]
BAB's exact post:
[ QUOTE ]
So we picked one Primary and one Secondary for each AT. Except for Brutes. "It would be dumb to not do Battleaxe and Mace when we just added custom weapons", I said.
In the end, most powersets ended up being straight ports. Others required tinting the effects from hero to villain (or vice versa). Stalkers needed an Assasin's Strike. Dominators ended up getting a mix of powers from a melee set and a ranged set and the Blaster secondary ended up with a completely new power.
This is just the first batch. Plenty more to come in the future.
[/ QUOTE ]
Keep dreaming. It'll happen someday. -

Being we are in April in 4 days, I don't see 3 issues a year happening for '08.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm sure many said the same thing for '07.
Issue 9: May 1st, 2007
Issue 10: July 24th, 2007
Issue 11: November 28th, 2007
[/ QUOTE ]
True, but when were these in closed beta? Im pretty sure i9 was the biggest of the 3, and it went into closed beta in Feb?
This is a big issue with new powersets for different hero/villain types, which means a lot of testing on the training room.
I dont see more alpha testing, weeks of closed beta, then weeks of open beta for i12 hit may 1, maybe end of May. Unless they just remove powers from At's during alpha/closed beta testing wihtout FULL on community testing in open beta, Im calling it i12 = June.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't see this in Closed Beta or Open Beta for nearly as long as I9 though. Inventions was a massive, fundamental change to the game with about 4 thousand ways it could break the game (at a couple hundred ways it did in Beta). New powersets have balance issues sure, but the Beta will only get the most obvious and fix them. Most of these sets will have to be tweaked after they go live.

Devices (Cloak, Perception, ToHit) > Traps ( Hold, Debuff) - IMO
[/ QUOTE ]
I think you would find that you're in the minority with this one. Most people feel exactly the opposite.
I'd love to have Acid Mortar, FFG and Poison Trap on a Defender or Blaster. Devices. . . . Taser has an interesting animation.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait. Devices is better than Traps because it contains two Power Pool options? Neat... -
You know, this thread has quickly reminded me why I stopped posting on the boards entirely outside of the Culture section. I used to see this forum as one of the few really fun places to chat about a game. I think it's been about 3 years since it's been nothing more than a few vocal whiners complaining about every single everything in the entire game and frankly, I think I'll be happier to just curl back up in my hole and go back to sleep.

Lots of nifty new stuff here:
[ QUOTE ]
Blaster
New Primary - Psychic Blast
New Secondary - Mental Manipulation
[/ QUOTE ]
Nice. Honestly, I'm not that excited about it simply because Psi hits the brick wall that is robots in PvE, but it's still a cool set. Mental Manipulation is likely just robbing some Dominator powers and throwing in some buffs, but it has potential to be a cool option for Blasters. Should be better than /Fire at least.
[ QUOTE ]
Corruptor
New Primary - Electrical Blast
New Secondary - Storm Summoning
[/ QUOTE ]
Awesome. Storm has been missing Red side since... forever. Electric Blast is the obvious counterpart, and given there's only 3 missing Blast sets villainside, there's not a lot to miss. Toss in Psychic and Archery next time and Corruptors are done.
[ QUOTE ]
Controller
New Primary - Plant Control
New Secondary - Thermal Radiation
[/ QUOTE ]
Obvious. Thermal was a natural set to go with Fire Control. Hopefully they'll get Cold next time to go with Ice. Plant was the only set they're missing anyway, so that was obvious.
[ QUOTE ]
Dominator
New Primary - Earth Control
New Secondary - Electricity Manipulation
[/ QUOTE ]
Earth has always been a good villain choice. I'm a bit surprised Electric didn't wait for an Electric Control set to go with it, but I suppose I would have said the same for Dark. Oh well, time for new control sets for both Dominators and Controllers I'd say anyway.
[ QUOTE ]
Defender
New Primary - Cold Domination
New Secondary - Ice Blast
[/ QUOTE ]
Seems like an easy pick. It was this or Thermal/Fire and Cold is just a little more unique, IMO. This will be fun and popular all around.
[ QUOTE ]
Mastermind
New Secondary - Storm Summoning
[/ QUOTE ]
*sigh* I might have to make a Ninja/Storm Tengu. Cool set, but it's going to be messy. I'm surprised this wasn't Sonic myself.
[ QUOTE ]
Brute
New Primary - Battle Axe
New Primary - War Mace
New Secondary - Super Reflexes
[/ QUOTE ]
The primaries were obvious options I've been screaming for since Beta. Super Reflexes is an odd choice, but there's not much to choose from either. Brutes have 7/11 of the Defense sets and Ice/Regen/Nin all require some significant work to port over.
[ QUOTE ]
Stalker
New Primary - Electric Melee
New Secondary - Electric Armor
[/ QUOTE ]
Strange. Needed eventually, but still strange. I sincerely doubt they'll get the amazing AoE function of Lightning Rod so hopefully the power will be used as the Assassin's Strike somehow. I have zero interest in non-defensive Stalker armors, but it's a decent choice all things considered.
[ QUOTE ]
Tank
New Primary - Dark Armor
New Secondary - Dark Melee
[/ QUOTE ]
Dark Armor tanks will be pretty cool. Dark Melee less so, but an obvious, easy port that will certainly make someone happy.
[ QUOTE ]
Scrapper
New Primary - Fiery Melee
New Secondary - Fiery Aura
[/ QUOTE ]
Totally surprised by this, but in retrospect, an obvious choice. The scrappery Tanker set should work well, and give the devs an idea how non-Sm/Lthl sets may need to be adjusted for the AT. The armor will be a nice addition for what has traditionally been a rather boring looking AT armor wise.
Good stuff. No idea what the complaining is about honestly.
