Quote:Bad players are binary regardless of AT, powerset or power selection. But that's not what you said. You clearly differentiated defenders from everyone else. No, my "point" was that bad players, playing defenders (and corrupters too), are binary.
Quote:On any other AT than a Defender I'd agree with you. Defenders are a special case, though, and require an exception to the normal rules.
You then go on to further denounce defenders who aren't dedicated buffers/healers in every reply you make. You ridicule defenders who attack at all, you deride offender builds across the board, but you also turn around and pat the dedicated buffers/healers on the back, despite the fact that they're typically less capable and flexible than offenders.
Hell, your first post to this thread was to lecture Adeon Hawkwood because he expressed disdain for dedicated buffers/healers who skip all but their tier 1 attacks.
So no, sir or ma'am, I do not accept your newly revised and carefully polished point. You've expressed nothing but dislike for defenders who do anything but keep you on /follow with buffs on auto, and that is the kind of attitude that I find offensive.
Quote:I expect a decent defender to use BOTH powersets, not one or the other. Apparently I should have spelled it out for you. That was my bad.
Quote:It's very rare running into a defender that can keep buffs/heals perma'd on the team, but still attack.
"Do what I want, spend the majority of your time making my life better and I'll let you have a little bit of fun. Don't, and I'll belittle you and not let you have any fun" is basically what that says. And that's a contemptible attitude to have. We aren't pets. We aren't employees. We're supposed to be teammates in a game, but you want to treat us like indentured servants and give us pats on the head when we oblige?
Wrong.
How many new players have left the game after meeting someone with an attitude like yours? How many solo players never learned how to make an offender build work well in a team setting after meeting someone with an attitude like yours? Oh, wait, I can put a number on that. How about... 80%!
Quote:You forgot energy.
Quote:And again, I suppose I should have used the word primary, instead of buffing/debuffing. If I wanted a defender that would do nothing but attack, I may as well have hired a blaster.
Quote:I'm not gonna repeat myself, just going to add that I don't believe in having to request buffs
Remember what I said about the commonality between bad experiences across multiple teams? Think about it.
Quote:--if Scrappers and Blasters don't need to be asked to shoot stuff, why should defenders be asked to do their job?
And you won't even give them an idea of which of those myriad possibilities you expect from them?
CLUE x 4: Communication helps.
Quote:That said, I'm not going to kick somebody for failing to do their job, unless they just plain aren't trying to contribute at all.
Quote:It's cute how you keep poking fun at the stat.
Quote:Yes, I made it up...well more of an estimate of defenders at low to mid levels that I run into.
No, I won't vote for you.
Quote:So, your magical noob blocking barrier must have been put up after you created your guys there, huh?
Quote:You really like that train metaphor, huh? -
Oh, no, quite the contrary. Your "point" wasn't missed, it was dismissed because it was based entirely on erroneous assertions and faulty logic. Your "point" was that defenders are binary, only capable of causing a single effect at any given moment, and you are wrong.
Quote:Let me restate it in simpler terms, just for you.
Quote:80% of defenders I run into choose one thing or the other to do.
Quote:There's your offender, that refuses to buff/debuff *while on teams*,
Outside of */Archery, there is no such thing as a defender who "refuses to debuff". So even if they aren't coddling you and tending to your every little scrape because they're attacking, they're assisting you and the team.
So half of your complaint about offenders is moot. They might not buff you, but unless they're */Archery, they're definitely debuffing for you, even if they do nothing other than blasting. Which means the only leg you have to stand on is that you're dissatisfied with defenders who don't buff you when you want, where you want and how you want.
My tears, they flow copiously for you.
Oh, sorry, let me restate that in simpler terms, just for you.
QQ.
Quote:and then there's your heal-bot. It is very rare that I run into a decent player that manages to do both, and if I have to choose whether I want a wanna-be blaster, or a heal/buff bot? I'll take the heal/buff-bot. I did invite a defender, after all. As I already said in my previous post, I would prefer that the defender healed/buffed when neccessary, and did something with his/herself in the interim, such as, I dunno, making use of the secondary pool.
Now, this is the part where you inform me that you graciously request buffs, but only after seeing that they haven't been granted after the entire team has patiently waited for, oh, hell, HOURS, and it's with dismay that you discover that 80% of these defenders don't even take their buffs, and only with a heavy heart do you click on that Kick button. For the good of your team, of course. Trust me, I'll believe it. I'm that gullible. I even believe that your on-the-spot statistic of buffing defenders is an accurate reflection of the situation. I'm that dumb. Seriously.
Quote:Thats why the dev's released the dual builds system.
Quote:Solo play gets it's own build that focuses on secondary aspects, team play is more of a mix. Again; I would hope that the defender can do BOTH, but that's often not the case. At least, not on my server.
You know what the commonality of all of those bad defender experiences is?
You. But that must be nothing more than an astounding coincidence, right?
Quote:Maybe your server magically filters out the noobs? That sounds nice.
Still want to ride this train? -
Quote:Is the defender using his/her blasts to knock enemies down/back, drain their endurance to nothing, reduce their hit chances significantly, slowing their attack rate, thus reducing or outright eliminating incoming damage and therefore giving the team time to recover? On any other AT than a Defender I'd agree with you. Defenders are a special case, though, and require an exception to the normal rules. If several members of the team is in the yellow/red, would you rather your defender be an offender (that is, a defender that likes to attack)?
Is the defender a debuffer with primarily click buffs or debuffs, most or all of which were already used and cannot be stacked, and who therefore has little else to do other than blast?
Are you aware that Empathy isn't the only defender primary?
Quote:If your buffing defender neglected to put buffs on you because he/she thought she was a blaster, would you still be amused?
Quote:You may think; "Hey, those are a bit extreme!" Yes, they are, but it makes my point.
Quote:Looking at it in a 2D manner such as that...just doesn't work. -

Image reduced in size by Photobucket. Original size was 1680x1050. Cleanest shot I took that definitively shows that there's something solid, but not visible.
It's not a crate or box, I had to do a bit of random jumping to get on top, and I slid off of some kind of sloped surface several times before I got my footing. Could be a rock, but I've been on this map several times before with different characters, in this specific mission and in other missions, and never seen anything in that location or run into anything in any of the hallways.
I had initially considered the possibility that it was a critter, which would have meant that the "invisible mobs" bug was back, but the fact that I could stand on it assured me that it was an object, not an entity.
My best guess is that it might be one of the locations where the Portal Disruptor could spawn, and some glitch (if it's reproducible, it would indicate a bug in a recent patch; if it's not reproducible, it might be one of those really odd latency-related issues that make Castle crawl under his desk and whisper "not there, not there, not there") caused it to spawn a solid bounding box. There's no reason for anything else to be in that particular spot, so... *shrug* -
Quote:It's something not rendering, but it shouldn't be boxes. I found exactly the same thing when I was doing that mission this afternoon, an invisible object right in the middle of a hallway. Can't imagine why there would be a box or stack of boxes sitting in the hallway in a Rikti cave.can you get some screen shots for us to look at. although it sounds like boxes not rendering.
I did take a few screenshots of my character standing on the object, but I haven't uploaded them yet. Stay tuned, I'll get them linked later, after I've eaten and logged in to Photobucket. -
Quote:I asked Castle for exactly that, a buff/debuff bar for targets, several months ago. He said he passed the request along to the code team. No idea if they approved and are working on it, or disapproved and ignored it, but I still want it. As a TA player, it would make my experience much better if I didn't have to guess when my debuffs were wearing off, or wait for the visual indicators (when they're working, enabled or even visible) to fade.Right now, buff/debuff icons allow me to know all of the buffs/debuffs that are on my toon, my pets and even my teammates. Can we get this (optionally) extended to the 'Target' window as well; at least any debuffs that my pets, team and/or I may be hitting them with (with the same options as the other icon windows)?

Quote:Ultra Mode was not promised as part of GR at the time when the option to pre-purchase GR was made available. We were told that Ultra Mode would be included in I17, for free, when we were also given the option to pre-purchase GR.The final 10 lvls weren't promised as part of COV, the retail box product, so that's fine.
Ultra mode was promised as part of GR, another retail box product, and now its not and in its place is PART of a new yet wholly different content update as equal substitute but the rest of it won't be available until 3 to 6 months (or more) after the retail box becomes available.
Quote:THAT is something totally different than Grandville and COV; THAT is bait and switch substitution that occured AFTER consumers paid forward on a preorder and the promise of getting a COMPLETE retail product in July.
Furthermore, no-one was told about Incarnates at all until a few days ago. The announcement of that content in GR is not bait and switch because it is not being offered as a substitute for anything. It is an information update to let us know a bit more about what we're getting in GR, nothing more and nothing less.
Quote:And that is a big problem (or its going to be very soon).
The developers didn't say, "Buy GR, it's going to have Ultra Mode", take your money, then turn around and say, "Oh, we're pulling Ultra Mode out of GR, but we're giving you Incarnates instead". Nor did they say, "We're giving you ten Incarnate levels with GR", then change their pitch to "Well, we'll give you ONE Incarnate level with GR, then nine more later" after you paid for GR. No-one even knew about Incarnates until a few days ago, and hand-in-hand with that announcement came the information about the additional Incarnate levels in I19.
There is no bait and switch here. Your complaint is invalid. -
Quote:I'm not certain that it would fix the problem. This appears to be a UI issue, not a database issue, and if that is the case, even deleting Ninja Run from the db may not do the trick. I'd just leave it alone for now and wait for the fix, or see if you can find an older copy to use just for your Kheldian project(s).Thanks for the info. I posted to the Mids boards on Titan also. Apparently Ninja Run has eaten some other inherent powers as well! Guess the only option is to wait for an update...sigh.
I don't suppose anyone knows how to edit Mids and restore the other Inherent powers? I personally don't need Ninja Run displayed in my Mids build. -

Quote:Archery, no clue. Haven't tried it as a corruptor yet. Not sure when I'll get around to that. I want to get my Dark/TA and Fire/TA corruptors to 50 before I start another corruptor with a bow.Question for the archers out there. I tried a TA/Archery Defender, and quit out... I just was too frustrated over the low damage. How does it compare for a Corrupter? It looks like the base damage is the same, but does Scourge, etc., make up for it? I would like to make a TA/Archery character work, so I'm hoping it will fly.
As for corruptor TA, I'm not dissatisfied with it (any more than i am as a defender), but what I've followed of various discussions suggest to me that many, if not most, other players feel that the set as a whole is too weak for corruptors.
But hey, try it, worst that can happen is that you decide that you don't enjoy it and stop playing it. Not the end of the world. -
It's a bug introduced with the latest version of Mids'. As soon as you hit level 2, Ninja Run "overwrites" the Kheldian travel power. I brought it up in this thread, no idea if Ston3y and crew saw it or will be fixing it in the next update.
-
Most of my characters eschew travel powers, unless concept absolutely demands one. I don't even care much for the Liefield "Spine? What spine?" look that I get from Ninja Run, though I'll use it if I'm feeling particularly anxious to get to a destination.
Three slots in Hurdle, default Combat Jumping, a few +Movement/Jump bonuses from IO sets and I'm a happy bunny. Been in love with Hurdle + CJ travel since I5 and it's still one of the main reasons I keep playing this game. -

Quote:If it didn't, I wouldn't have gotten it to 50, or have almost 1000 hours of actual play time on it.Hmm, some good suggestions here. TA/Dark sounds like a great team player. Does it solo well?
However, my definition of "solo well" may differ from yours, so what I consider to be delightfully good might actually be painfully slow and tedious for you. I also need to note that I pursued an IO build, so I did have some extra "oomph" with it, but that build wasn't really fleshed out until after it hit 50, so most of the actual leveling was with a very roughly frankenslotted/common IOed/SOed build, and I was happy with it even at that point.
Now, with the IO build complete... well, simply put, it's the most fun I've had in this game. Was before and still is. I haven't found any combination, in any AT, that I've enjoyed as much, or wanted to keep playing as much as I want to keep playing my TA/Dark. It is the game, for me, at this point. Everything else I do, every other character I play, is just a diversion to keep me from getting burned out on my TA/Dark.
And since I spend almost all of my time solo, I'd have to say that yes, I do believe it solos well. For whatever that's worth.
My Fire/TA corruptor, though... it's a strong second. I'm really liking that one. -
Mechanically, TA/Dark defender. Dark Blast's -ToHit shores up TA's weakest point, poor damage mitigation when EMP Arrow isn't available. TT and NF both have relatively fast recharge and animation times, and fit TA's AoE-heavy nature well. And paired with Dark Mastery's Oppressive Gloom, Dark Pit becomes a far more powerful tool for personal and team defense than EMP Arrow.
Thematically, TA/Archery defender or Archery/TA corruptor. I still hate the relatively weak combination of these two powersets, due to Archery offering nothing to supplement or complement TA, but I also still adore my Cherokee huntress.
But for sheer, bloody, nasty fun... Fire/TA corruptor. Glue + Rain of Fire + Scourge = OSA on steroids, with 1/3 the recharge time. Not a build I recommend for solo play without leaning on IO sets or teammates to keep you from signing up for a frequent visitor plan at the hospital, but good heavens, it's got some nice damage output. -
He certainly could, and just might try. The guy's as horny as a devil. He's probably dying to "axe her out".
*ba-dum tish*
But in order to do that, he'd have to strip off his armor. Bad way to start a fight. All Des would have to do is wink, wiggle and whip a little. Infernal would be down on his knees before the fight started, and he wouldn't be getting back up. -
Des. Infernal will take one look at her... assets and forget everything else.

Quote:I wouldn't use it.I was just thinking the other day about the PLers. How would your guys feel if Paragon/NCSoft offered you the chance for a small fee to start out as a 50? The character would start in AP with 0 inf and badges, just like a level one, only you need to go see a trainer and 'level up'.
I pay to play the game, not to "own" level 50 characters.
I level up so I can experience how different powers interact and how a character performs with those powers at different levels. I can develop attack chains and get comfortable enough with a character to be subconsciously aware of power recharge and animation times, which makes playing the game more fluid and immersive for me. Instantly having a level 50 character means spending most of my time staring at the power tray, rather than at the game itself, and I don't want to do that.
Being level 50 means getting level 50 drops, specifically IO recipes and salvage, and I usually don't want those. I prefer slotting lower level IOs because it gives me more latitude when I'm exemplared down. Doing that at level 50 means spending a lot of inf* at the market to get pool B and C/D stuff, or spending a lot of time exemplared down to get pool A stuff. Essentially, just being level 50 forces me to find ways to manipulate the system or rely on other players to get what I want out of the game, rather than simply playing, if I want anything other than level 50 enhancements. I don't like that and prefer to avoid it if at all possible.
Content. There isn't much at 50. Yes, I can use Ouroboros to experience some of the 1-49 content, but not all of it, and not the same way I'd experience it by leveling up. How many interesting missions/arcs, how many badges, how many unique team experiences, how many new players who I might have met would I miss by skipping everything from 1-49? More than I care to, or can, list, some of which I can't even quantify.
I don't care for grinding, and if I opted to auto-level (or power-level) a character to 50, that's all I'd have to look forward to, grinding. I'd have no inf*, no merits, no recipes, no salvage, no enhancements, nothing to pay for slotting out that character. I'd have to grind relentlessly. I quit playing WoW because I had to spend 2-4 hours every day just grinding (to get consumables or cash to buy consumables for raids and instances) to equip my "end-game" characters. I'm not going to do that here either.
I have several level 50 characters already, but only one of them is interesting and fun enough for me to want to continue playing at level 50, my TA/Dark/Dark, Parthenia. Having more level 50 characters that I likely won't be interested in beyond the novelty of having them or checking out what they might be like at 50... just doesn't appeal to me. Especially if there's an additional fee attached.
Lastly, I'm one of those silly fools who believe that appreciation is directly proportional investment. The harder and more you work for something, the more you value it. I can't love a character that I didn't earn, no matter how much I might love the concept, name, costume or powers. When I play my characters to 50, I value them because they represent investments of time, creativity and effort (what little this game requires) on my part. Being handed a "free" 50 is like being given anything, I'm not going to cherish it or miss it if I lose it, or really care about it while I have it.
I wouldn't use an option to have any character automatically leveled to 50. Such a thing would represent the opposite of everything that keeps me interested in this game.
Quote:This might help to put the paid PL sites out of business.

I spent weeks working on my first MA arc. I poured hours upon hours into the story, countless nights into perfecting the custom enemies, ran through the entire thing dozens of times to make certain that it was as good as it could be... I even went so far as to beg for help testing it so I'd know what it was doing for teams and fix the problems that arose in those situations... and the damn thing's busted again.
One of my custom bosses on the second map had its companion replaced with a Protean named "PCCInvalidCritterReplacement". The entire custom group I set up for the third map fails to spawn, instead populating the map with clones of the custom boss. And the EB for the final fight on the last map is now cloning itself again, after I resolved that particular problem at least three times.
I'm tired of cleaning up the mess left behind when changes are made to the AE system. I'm not even sure there's a point to it any more. The MA is so oversaturated with arcs that practically no-one plays mine, so the only real reason I have to keep plugging away at it is for myself... and frankly, havng to go back and fix it frequently before I can enjoy it is sucking all of the fun out of it.
*wanders off, stomping and muttering* -
Started a new Peacebringer build to try out a couple of ideas, found that Ninja Run replaces the inherent travel power as soon as you get to level 2. Slots placed in the travel power remain visible in Ninja Run, but can't be removed or slotted with enhancements, and any enhancements previously slotted disappear.
Same result with a Warshade, and in both Dynamic and Level-up modes. -
Well, I was able to play Co* this morning, for the first time in over a week. It felt good.
Total data loss, but the recovery partition was intact and Vista x64 is back in place. Fortunately, I had backups of everything important, except for a few e-mails and bookmarks. Everything else, I can recreate (random collections of thought and stories i was working on in text files) or reacquire (downloads).
Still have quite a bit of work to get everything back the way I want it, but the bothersome part is done.
Yay. -

I haven't kept up on Dell's hardware in the last three or four years, but when I was working as a tech, Dell PSUs used proprietary pinouts for the motherboard plugs. Which means, basically, plugging a standard, off-the-shelf PSU into a Dell motherboard typically results in a lot of smoke.
Unless you're replacing the motherboard along with the PSU, or can find a pinout schematic for the motherboard header to tell you which wires to swap on a standard PSU plug, I'd recommend contacting Dell for a replacement/upgrade. As I said, I haven't followed Dell's hardware profiles in a while, so they may be using standard PSUs and motherboard headers now, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
Quote:Here.I would love anything even in the 350w range, but again, initial research got me nothing.
It looks like the best you'll be able to get is 275w. If you still want to go higher, you'll probably have to replace the case, PSU and motherboard all together.
Quote:While CoH used to run fine for long periods of time, it currently locks up after around 3 hours without fault. I'm guessing the little tweak here and there with graphics in CoH has slowly caught up with my system.
