    IO Set Idea

I have an idea for an IO set, one that could hopefully alleviate a lot of stress people get around a certain effect.

    "Softened Blows" - Rare 21-50
    Set: Knock Back
    accuracy/recharge
    damage/endurance/recharge
Softened Blows, KnockDown bonus - (Special - %10000 enh KB, add effect chance for 0.15 Mag KB.)

    Bonus
    (2)+1.5 max end
    (3)+1.875% defense(AoE), +0.938% defense(Fire/Cold)

What do you think? would you seek this one out?

Edit: Actually, come to think of it, this bonus IO's ability would mess with powers that merely have a 'chance for' knock back affect as is.
Wonder if there's a way to get it to cooperate with that.
  2. Hmm, For me it would end up.
    LVL50:
    Celtech Overlord - Bot/FF/Mace MasterMind
Aspect of War - Dark/Inv/Soul Brute
    John Graham - Katana/WP/Body Scrapper
    Fissure - Grav/Kin/Mental Controller
    Shadow Ops - Merc/Dark/Soul MasterMind
    C4NN-0N - AR/Dev/Munitions Blaster
    Archmage Reilus - Fire/Storm/Dark Corrupter
    Celtech Shocktank - Elec/Elec/Mu brute

I would say this team is pretty tough, for a variety of reasons. Least of which is the Kin and the combo of FF + Dark. Two main brutes is a good balance, they both get plenty of foes for fury-fuel while being enough to generally stay outside of aggro cap issues, and they have plenty of support to keep them going.
  3. Currently, my favourites are

My undestructible lvl50 DM/Inv/Soul brute. Good mixed mitigation synergy, very very survivable, and satisfying soul sucking goodness.

And my lvl50 Fire/Storm/Dark corrupter. Gives my lots of options, but for the most part he's just a rolling death machine that out damages my blasters while providing more bonuses for the team. Stealth in, Soul drain + Aim, then dual rains + fireball, all the minions are dead, most LTs are nearly dead, scourge kicks in big time, and I just blaze the rest. If there's any hard targets I can set up a storm and corner them with 'cane, then go nuts. I also have the drain for my endurance when really needed. This thing let me solo quite a few AVs/Heroes.
  4. Don't mean to bring it up, but isn't this in the wrong section?
    :X
  5. Well then you might as well rename my original idea.

My original set is just wrist blasters and some missiles. It functions just as a blast set with some unique gimmicks. Just rename its theme and we're good?

Not sure what to do for a secondary though. Traps already works for corrs/defs, blasters get devices and energy, which both fit well enough. The secondary you're thinking of would be an interesting change of pace, though.
  6. Well, I'd try not to make the power Armour any more permanent than the armour on SoA. The weapons are the only things I can see sticking, and those are just the wrist blasters/possibly back cannon. That way it's really no worse than with crabs. Maybe not perfect, but tolerable.

Swat are pretty difficult to emulate too. They're sort of like ranged stalkers with a good selection of control/debuffs, and could be handled as such. I preferred the branching option because it would also allow for a more general story-line tying into the PPD, and have it make some sense. The hard-suits as just themselves wouldn't offer much, I don't think, as story. It would be like making an SoA 1-50 arc based purely around crab spiders. What would you do with that?
    But I digress.

The basic power sets are reasonably generic to allow them to work well with any idea or concept. Even the weapon sets which, by their nature, limit concept somewhat provide a variety of weapons that allow for different concepts (i.e. laser sword versus regular sword versus magical sword).

A power armor set is, by it's very nature, very limited in what concepts it can work with and I just don't see that as a good thing. In addition the need for a power armor set to incorporate certain costume elements means it's a lot of work for a set with limited application.

That being said I think a new EAT with a focus on power armor (such as a PPD Hardsuit) would be absolutely awesome. Since EATs are (theoretically) story focused it is more reasonable to build them around a more limited design concept. The VEATs set a precedent for having a costume slot with limited options which would work for power armor EAT. However, unlike the VEATs, it would need a larger portion of it's powers to be associated with that costume so a better model might be the HEATs and have a power armor "form" toggle that changes you into power armor but this has different technical issues (mostly related to the fact that the power armro would be the same for everyone).
I would agree with this. In fact I thought of a PPD EAT with a more SoA approach a long time ago.
You started off as a basic gun wielder type that branched into spec-ops/swat or hard-suit options. Psi-ops and peacebringers are already present in-game so no need to touch those.

That idea got shot down because because quite a few people thought there was no 'epic' to a PPD EAT. Story would need a LOT of work. But I do prefer that approach as a more practical option to getting this kind of thing out there.
  8. Something I've always wanted, and have given some thought to: Assault Armour. You know, killer mecha and iron-man esque type stuff. I was thinking a blast set, with a special replacement to aim, and a unique "nuke". I've given specific details to the powers that are special, the others you can fill in easily.

    * Means special
    + Means affected by Enhance

Assault Armour (Blast set. Corrs, Blasters, Defenders)

    1 Pulser Burst (Moderate, -def) (Energy/Lethal) +
A basic burst of energy from your wrist pulser. Deals moderate damage, but has a quick recharge. This pinpoint attack my lower foes defense.

2 Heavy Pulser Burst (High, -def) (Energy/Lethal) +
A burst from both wrist pulsers. Slower than a regular burst, but deals more damage. The blast can lower foes defense.

3 Pulser Discharge (Moderate Cone, KD) (Energy/Smash) +
A violent discharge of energy from your pulsers. Deals moderate damage and is strong enough to knock down your foes.

4 Missile Pod (Moderate AoE, Minor fire dot, KD) (Fire/Smash)
Launches a missile from your shoulder mounted missile launcher. The explosion deals moderate damage and may cause minor burns to the targets, and is large enough to knock some foes down.

5 Charged Pulse (Snipe, -def, KB) (Energy/Lethal) +
You fully charge both pulsers and then fire them at your foe. This focused blast deals great damage from a distance, and is highly accurate, but has a long charge up time that can be interrupted. Just to rub it in, the pulse can also lowers the foe's defenses.

*6 Enhance (+acc, +dmg, add -regen effect, add -rech effect, add fire dot effect)
Turbo charges your energy reservoir, allowing your pulse attacks to seer your enemies with a plasma like substance. Enhance raises your overall accuracy and damage a bit, but more importantly the plasma burns from your pulsers will lower your foes regen, dmg, and cause fire damage over time.
    [Rech: 120s, Dur: 20s| +to-hit: 15, +dmg: 30 | pulsers= regen: -20% (20s), -dmg: -7.5% (10s), recharge: fire dot: 8% (of dmg) x5]

    7 Energized Pulse (Minor, Stun) (Energy/Lethal) +
You charge one of your pulses with higher voltages to give it a taser like affect. This attack deals minor damage, but leaves the foe stunned for a time.

8 Missile Pod Swarm (High AoE, minor fire dot, KB) (Fire/Smash)
You fire a volley of missiles from your shoulder launcher, scattering every which direction. This attack deals high amounts of damage and is almost guaranteed to burn its victims and knock them back. It takes much longer to reload than a regular missile attack, however.

*9 Destructors (Target Summons 3 destructors, Superior AoE damage, Stun, -to-hit, KB) (Energy)
Your prowess with assault weapons allows you to summon destructor drones. These three seeker drones will stick around until they spot a target, at which point they will hone in and detonate. These massive blasts deal high amounts of damage and are bright enough to disorient foes and lower their to-hit. Unfortunately, coordinating these drones consumes large amounts of endurance and renewing them will take a long time.
    [Rech: 240s, End: 30, Dur: 60s| -each drone's explode= rad: 20ft, acc: 1.05, dmg: 90, Stun: mag1 (8s), to-hit: -5% (20s)]

    I hope this makes sense.

Most of the set is fairly typical except for the aim replacement and the 'nuke' pets. Enhance gives a lighter bonus to overall damage and accuracy than aim, but lasts twice as long and engages the unique secondary affects of the pulse attacks. Because of this, the non pulse attacks are a little more potent as they don't get the bonus, but when the bonus is engaged the pulse attacks really shine with the debuff and dot bonus. The DoT bonus should be going as a percentage, so as to encourage using powers more evenly instead of say just spamming discharge for the dot.

The destructors I figure will summon like seeker drones do already. Honing and exploding, and can be summoned at a location. They're not super impressive individually, but if they all converge on to a similar location they can stack to great effect. Providing a decent control, nice to-hit debuff, and hefty AoE damage.

Aesthetically, the set is just wrist blasters and shoulder launchers. Wrist blaster could hopefully play off PPD hardsuits as an obvious example. Shoulder launchers might be more difficult, as we have some big shoulder pieces in this game and clipping could cause concern with things like high-collar capes. I want them to be compact but effective looking, ala Warmachine.

There could be a fair Variety to weapon customization here, with tech pieces, alien-esque pieces, and most definitely a steam punk option.

    Anyway. Thoughts, Ideas, suggestions?

    Windows 7 issue

Was this install "fresh" (as in after doing a drive format) or did you attempt to install directly over the old OS?
If the latter, there could be left over drivers and programs messing with things quite a bit.

    Wisp Aura?

    *Shrug*

I like the launcher. It's efficient and has a simple interface. Nothing cluttery or in your face. Heck, its built in patcher is more effective the regular CoH one by a fair bit. My patch apply time was cut almost in half from what I'm seeing.

Anyway, this is an interesting aura. Not sure who I'll give give it to, though. The whirling motion reminds me of the Ember Shield animation.
  11. Saw it a little while ago with a friend at their house.
    I certainly enjoyed the ride.

I definitely agree with the statement about its characters. It doesn't really tell you who they are, but it shows you who they are quite well, and it' very engrossing in that way. You can feel attached and 'there' quite easily. The settings and designs were really nice, most obviously prominent in the MMO realm. Some nice crowning moments of awesome, too.

The scene at the very end made me and my friend do a major lolwut, though. Massive spoiler if I say more.
  12. Also, judging by some subtle name changes of some costume parts, I believe they snuck in the Animal Booster bits as well.
  13. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing the Gun-Drone get an alternate summon pet, one that doesn't look as terribly goofy and off-balance as the current one. Something that looks sort of like the Warhammer 40k Tau drones would be neat.

I would say alternate animations for many weapon sets would be cool. I'd also love to see a power-armor inspired Assault-Rifle animation set, but that would change everything so much it's probably more feasible to just make it a new power set.

A magic style animation set for many the current ranged attacks would be neat. You could use the runes and glyph type symbols during animation sequences. I'd love to see the symbols from the tarot power used during combat, for example. You can sort of accomplish this with runes combat-auras at the moment, but a full version would be cool.

Some "Animation Proliferation" would also be really nice. Just make certain animations with similar animation times available across power sets.

    3d

*shrug* I actually went into the Nvidia control panel and enabled 3D in a few games, including CoH (NVidia can create a 3D filter in any game, but it varies in quality and has those awful cellophane glasses) Just to check it out.

Hurt my eyes, reduced the frame-rate and image quality, didn't add that much to the game. Wasn't worth the migraine.
  15. Themed after the island in Vancouver?
    Can be a total crap-hole.
Used to be a large industrial area.
    It's an island.
    ...
  16. Currently the only thing I've given a special name is my main computer which is currently known as ZTACS-AMD. I have this meaning Zerge's Technologically Advanced Computer System - AMD version.

edit: I recently moved it into a new case and its new aesthetic "personality" demands a new name as well, but I can't really think of one... it'll come to me eventually.

    >.>

hehe, I remember that song from Macross Frontier.

I always thought of this as the Japanese rick-roll, and apparently many others do too . . .
  18. The damage divided out in bodyguard mode to your henchmen is special and doesn't inherit the damage types from the attack you're hit by, so it would be typeless and thus non-resistible.

Hehe, perhaps that "Mirror Effect" option in the AE NPC creator will have a good use now

Ah, and that's also some pretty new info on there being two mission types, but the names seem fairly self explanatory.

Tip missions are missions where Contacts or possibly Clues (dropped by street mobs or possibly provided by a radio-like medium) provide information on a situation, and you can handle it as necessary. They're just providing tips for you to go on, no specific instructions or detailed stories really. These missions will probably be radio-mission-esque and have no real effect on your character's moral standing.

Moral missions will be deeper and more character/story focused with real repercussions for your actions. These will probably handle more like actual arcs and have an effect on your moral standing.

But that's just my speculation, it could be something radically different. I look forward to more info
  20. I see the new animated tails didn't have their upper body versions culled in certain categories. This bug appears to also be present on the test server.

-Upper body categories still with tails:
    Male - Baggy
    Male - Armored
    Huge - Baggy
    Huge - Armored

Nothing detrimental, it just strikes me as odd :/
  21. Hmm, I have a bunch of villains, but only one deserves in-depth mention. Others are pretty bad, some just crazy, some merely troubled, but only one gets my 'complete monster' award.

    His name is Archmage Reilus:
A descendant of a proud lineage of peacekeeping mages tasked with taking care of the beings known as 'Aspects'. These aspects are essentially advanced golems built for use as guards of towns, though sometimes also used in battle. Reilus is very aware of his powers and has, for many years, deviated from his ancestors and used them to purely selfish and evil ends. His first was taking his Aspect, one of the few remaining to this day, and remodeling it into an engine of pure death and destruction with an unquenchable thirst for souls that serves him with complete loyalty. Second is his daughter, who is really nothing like Reilus. She's very cheery, optimistic, and empathic to others. He really really hates that, as she isn't, according to his thinking, 'realizing her potential for greatness'. The mother is deceased, Reilus used her in the life-force transfusion necessary for rebuilding the Aspect only a year after giving birth to their daughter. Of course no-one but him has any idea about that one, he's a very good lair.

Aside from abusing and neglecting his daughter for not being like him gender and personality wise, and sacrificing his wife and the mother of his child in a ritual to create an unstoppable killing machine, he's really just a **** to the core. There's no ulterior motive here for his actions, nothing like 'I do it for the greater good' or 'I have a troubled past' or 'I got to support my family somehow'. He feels for no one else but himself, and if he seems nice, he probably wants to use you to his own ends. Reilus just loves feeling better than everyone else, and only finds satisfaction in his life by proving his superiority through his vile acts. He just loves to watch people suffer and beg at his feet before he steps on them. There's no better feeling in the world to this villain.
  22. Finally is right ._.
Some good stuff for folks looking into CoX, though it doesn't offer 'too much' to people already playing and itching for new info.

    Edit:
Things we DO get to see:
The look of our two GR poster-peeps in-game. (Though Maelstrom is missing the power core in his chest for one reason or another)

Much better look at the city of Praetoria in-game

Several new costume bits, PPD and Clock-work themed it seems. Also what seems to be some from that new alpha/omega set.

New emotes (possibly new stances, see the person with the arrow toward the end)

What seems to be hinting at some power-pool customization with the super-jump scene

New enemy groups in action, including a look at the yet-named group of colourful muscle-men

    and probably more.
  23. Well, I'll break it down.

When you put in your defense/res set 'procs' they apply a special passive power to your character. This is an aura that radiates from you all the time, even if Hell on Earth isn't active, and I think it has the same radius as leadership toggles ( 60' ) but I'm unsure. Anyways, this aura will grant the defense/res bonuses to ALL pets under your control. Even pet 'allies' you pick up in missions will get the bonus, and the heavy pets in Recluse's Victory too.

Your little hell spawns will get the bonus, and so will any other pets under your control, as long as they're in range of your aura (as mentioned, it's quite a large aura, so it normally isn't an issue).
Hell on Earth's little living hellfires are basic imp like pets, so you won't be able to put in set procs like knockback or defense debuff etc as they don't have powers that can use them. Just standard pet-sets and recharge intensive pet-sets.

And yeah, it's great. 20% res and 10% defense bonus to all your pets. It makes a difference

Additionally, one appears to be higher than the other, so that even if they were attached to the shoulders, one would be about halfway down the character's arm.
    I noticed that too.

Also, the 'Braided Buns' detail that comes with the ninja pack does not appear to scale with the sliders, cranium sliders specifically. I was tweaking the head on my character when I notice that my cranium was set a bit tall, but the hair never changed, so my gal has a chunk of bare head sticking out. Like a bald spot, lol.

Edit: Also, the 'warrior full' head detail tends to clip through the body on the female model, or at least it does that in combat stance.
  25. Okay BaBs, fair enough
Can't wait to see how later iterations turn out. Fiery demon things ftw =D
