I'll just take your argument to its logical conclusion: As soon as the Devs let us use the "Sybil" outfits from Cimerora then I'll believe they really have no design and/or philosophical problem with us looking exactly like the NPCs.

    New This Week?

I think you guys might be missing the joke behind Zwillinger's post. I'm pretty sure he's equating the new word Stuff™ with our old tried and true concept of Soon™. Clearly what this means is that we will definitely get new Stuff™ but it won't be on any fixed schedule and it'll only randomly appear whenever it's ready. I think if we actually routinely see something significantly new out of this exactly every 7 days it'll be a minor miracle.
  3. I created a character roughly 7 years ago with the vague concept that she'd fly around with a fixed wing jet pack sort of like the way Buzz Lightyear's works (wings fold up while not flying; wings extend and lock in place while flying). Of course I created this character well before wings of ANY kind existed in the game (even before the power-based ones GATE-keeper mentioned) but at the time I guess I made the somewhat naive assumption that "any day now" the Devs would eventually provide a tech-oriented fixed wing costume item. The idea of having something like that in this game just seemed so completely logical and obvious.

Well it's been over 7 years and counting. At this point I guess I'm just hoping that something like that will happen before they permanently shut the game servers down.
  4. For important stuff like Vet award selection I'd almost be willing to suggest that the Devs remove the "claim all" option just to avoid problems like this. What's the point in having an option that might save you 30 seconds of setup time if it's way too easy to permanently screw up what you want or don't want with it?
  5. I didn't even think to consider that Terry's war buddy might serve as the "re-imagined Quinn" character in the TV show next season. I agree that if they do try to shoehorn a Quinn-like character into the show he's probably going to have to be a fairly modified version of the book character. Might as well make him a big manly-man Iraqi war vet sergeant.

Actually Lothic, it is Book 4 where Jason is kidnapped and bitten (and rescued by Sookie and Sam) and Book 5 where he changes. Where the show really made a difference besides the obvious is actually starting the story during season three, given that Jason was almost completely absent from the third book they had to give him something to do I guess and stretched it through this season, and I'm guessing even into the next.
Yeah I thought the whole Hotshot arc didn't get started until like the 5th or 6th book. My bad.

In any event the TV show introduced the whole Jason/Hotshot thing earlier than the books, probably like you said to give Jason something to do in the 3rd season. And it looks like according to a brief review of the wiki the Fairy plotline didn't get seriously covered (except for mentions of Claudine and clues from Andre) until all the way into the 8th book.

I agree that the TV show was fairly close to the books during the first two seasons. But I think my point still stands (despite the details) that I doubt that any future seasons of the show will be able to be tied directly one-to-one to a particular book now that they've started to cherry pick plotlines from many of the later books. Let's just say if Quinn doesn't make an appearance by the end of season 5 then all bets are off.
  7. Apart from what Basilisk said the only indirect way to have exact "canon" outfits is to make use of the temp NPC costume powers. These were first introduced during the Halloween events but many of them are now purchasable via the Paragon Market.

Beyond that I have the feeling the Devs don't really want to encourage us towards making exact clones of in-game outfits.

    New This Week?

I think it's a lofty goal for the Devs to give us new things in the Paragon Market every week but I'm not going to hold them to a strict schedule on that, especially now when they are just getting the major problems squared away from the release last week. Maybe in a few weeks when thing are settled down will I be more "expectant" of seeing new things on a regular basis.

As a sidenote to your question people have been suggesting for years the idea of "fixed wing" costume options. It looks like the Devs are finally getting around to that with things like the fixed wing Celestial costume item. Hopefully this means we'll be getting other options like that soon.
  11. I think part of the confusion from the other recent threads on this was that there were people assuming the ONLY option we had was to buy all 5 global costume slots at one time for $50. People were saying that was too much to pay all at once. To clear that up others responded by saying you could buy those global slots individually - you don't have to buy all 5 at the same time.

I think the idea about how these slots would likely be cheaper if they were per character (instead of global) was just that - a suggested idea. I'm not sure that anyone ever claimed that the option to buy them per character actually existed right now.

    Hope that helps.

    Afterburner?

I've more or less decided that I might try Afterburner on a future character but I just don't see its benefit being great enough to justify trying to "reverse-engineer" it back into one of my long established characters. To me it's an interesting option - not a "must have" thing.

    Eco
I missed it the first time it was offered a few months ago myself. I was on ship at sea with limited/restricted Internet access so I had zero chance to get it at the time.

But as soon as Issue 21 went live last week I got it on all my characters. It appears that they decided to turn the badge on for the entire Freedom Headstart period, not just during the scheduled invasion events on each server.

But like Eric Nelson said if you can't get it this time around they'll probably give us another opportunity. Back in May the Devs more or less implied that this was going to become a repeating event and that we would periodically get new chances at it.

    No worries.

    Some bookish spoliers...

As far as the TV show being "based" on the Sookie Stackhouse novels I think you'll agree (assuming you've read at least the first four books) that as time goes on the TV show has definitely skewed farther and farther away from the books. Just about the only thing the 4th season used from the 4th book was the generic "witch war" plotline, and even that was significantly different in the book. In the book the witches involved were ALSO themselves werewolves AND V-addicts.

As it turns out much of the storyline for the 3rd and 4th seasons of the TV show has actually borrowed bits and pieces of the later Stackhouse novels. Things like Jason's Hotshot/werepanther story and all the Fairy stuff didn't really get started until like the 6th or 7th book.

I think since the TV show has spun off so far from the books it's going to be pretty hard for any further TV seasons to be clearly connected to a specific single book. Even the author of the books (Charlaine Harris) has supposedly said she likes the TV show mostly because even she doesn't know what to expect of it week-to-week.

The only difference now is that you can't create costumes during game downtime. Why this should matter in regards to the lawsuit is beyond me.

    *Well, soon™.
The "argument" as you put never held that much weight for me either. But like I said the general consensus at the time (and over the years) has usually held to this as the reason why it hasn't happened. Legal settlements often don't use much logic or common sense when it comes to real world realities - I could easily see how NCsoft could have made the arbitrary concession to drop all plans to support an offline costume creator in return for Marvel dropping the overall lawsuit. Weirder things have happened.

But even if the situation has changed and there's no legal reason why this couldn't happen now there's still going to be the matter of the Devs being convinced to put in the time and effort into doing this. It's pretty clear that this has not been a priority so far.

Which means I might be waiting several months if I buy some other cheaper stuff in the meantime. In the long haul, I'll wind up spending less.

Most consumers have a threshold where they tell themselves, "Heck, that's so cheap I can't afford not to buy it." You want all your items in this model to fall into that price range.
Just to be clear about this while I might agree with your general idea about targeting prices towards "impulse buys" I think it's pretty obvious that the threshold for what different people consider cheap enough to be an impulse buy is going to vary widely. To some people an impulse buy is a pack of gum and to others it's a late model Lamborghini.

Because, hey, it's so cheap I can't afford not to buy it. The same thing was true when they had the sale on the Science pack -- too cheap to pass up, and I had to buy it.

For me, 400-800 points is in that magic impulse range.
Having most things cost 400-800 points is fine. But I see no reason why -everything- in a store like this has to be in that price range. The idea of having some relatively expensive (or even relatively cheap) items should not be seen as a "failure" of the system. Instead they should just be considered what they are - exceptionally unique items.

As far as the costume slots go I've already mentioned that to me they were anything but an "impulse" buy. I had wanted them for years and when I first learned they were finally going to happen a few months ago I was able to easily budget having enough money to effectively buy as many as possible at any price. I understand that for you and many others they might not be "worth" that to you. But to me they were. It's as simple as that. *shrugs*
  17. Yeah it's a bummer. For what it's worth the South Korean costume creator had a costume save/load feature just like our current creator but it had it like 2 years before we got ours in this game. It was weird that it took them that long to give us that obviously useful capability. *shrugs*
  18. The South Korean version of this game (City of Hero) actually had a promotional standalone costume creator. It was leaked onto the Internet for about a week before it was removed from the site. The company has treated it like it never existed ever since.

The general consensus for why this was case is that it had do with the settlement of the now infamous Marvel lawsuit. Theoretically by keeping the control of costume creation behind the curtain of having to be online in the game the Mods of this game could better police people and prevent them from making clones of popular comic book characters. It's pretty much this reason alone that explains why we'll likely never get an updated standalone or web-based costume creator at any price let alone for free. *shrugs*

Well to be fair I usually "ask" when I take a screenshot of someone because if I like their costume enough to save it I've usually already told them in OCC chat that their outfit was cool to begin with. It's usually pretty easy to figure out the items used regardless.
  21. Yeah it's for things like this I wished we had full control over which colors we could use instead of being stuck with a grid of limited choices. We already know (via toying around with the .costume files when they were first introduced) that the client can handle the standard RGB triplet values to give us basically -any- color we want. Oh well.

You might be able to use the "baggy" options to mimic the jumpsuits.

As far as everybody doing the Ghostbusters theme with Beam Rifle I guess that was inevitable. It's funny timing considering they are releasing the original Ghostbusters to theaters next month.

    Badger Migration

I actually get the feeling that most serious badgers aren't going to shift their main badging characters to Exalted. Most of us have pretty well established characters, which also includes supergroup affiliations. I intend to play on Exalted but only with newly created characters at this point.

I suppose we'll eventually see if there's a mass migration for badgers or not.
I just don't see myself worrying about it too much. *shrugs*
  23. Yeah I understand the intent behind this suggestion but as Memphis_Bill was getting at being able to just save another person's costume directly as a .costume file might make it a bit too easy to potentially grief them by cloning them exactly.

In cases where I see someone else's costume I like I just snap a screenshot of it and use that to study it later.

As already said Heroes and Vigilantes can talk to Miss Liberty in AP. The wording of that mission objective is misleading.

The Shining Stars arcs are "Hero/Vigilante only" arcs anyway. It would not matter that Rogues couldn't get into Fort Trident because I'm pretty sure they couldn't even start these arcs regardless.

I guess until further notice we just have to try it without doing any league stuff just to be safe.
