Quote:Jesus, what the crap is going on? This last patch, which may or may not be I21.5, is amazingly awful. How did this even get pushed Live? Is someone just asleep? It got pushed live because they wanted to have something to counter the launch of Skyrim.Quote:You know it would be smarter to simply roll back the existing patch instead of rushing out broken bugged content.
They launched Issue 12 about a week or two too early to give us Cimerora to counter Age of Conan as well.
Our Devs have a bit of a history of pushing out patches as "responses" to other games for a while now.

I know of at least 3 other SGs who are missing this same subset of SG badges. For what it's worth I petitioned for each of those SGs with characters I have in those SGs in just to add more fuel to this fire. Hopefully it won't take too long to fix.

Quote:We saw how Cind was able to trick Rumple with a "second deal" so I figure we'll see Emma manage to trick Gold in a twisty way with the "second deal" she made. I also figure Emma will use the Deputy job to maneuver her way against the mayor as well. The latest episode of OUaT was decent but I did have a couple 'facepalm' moments.
The first was accepting a deal with Gold. It was inevitable but I was hoping the writers would find another way to break Cind's deal and show Emma had some brains. Now we have the Hero owing a favor to the Villain. Blah.
The second was accepting the deputy position. I mean, shouldn't it be obvious to Emma that the sheriff shouldn't be trusted? I think the writers could have done a better job at making it apparent that she had no other choice. 'Time to make some roots' isn't very convincing to me.
I'm really hoping the writers show Emma out smarting both Gold and the Sheriff by turning Gold's deal and new deputy job to her advantage..
I didn't really mind that the fairy godmother got zapped either but it was kind of sad that she only got about 15 seconds of screentime. I almost feel sorry for the actress who barely had any chance to do anything.Quote:Lastly, my wife got all pissed when the Fairy God Mother got destroyed. That was totally unexpected. I liked it.

Quote:Yeah that was my bad. I haven't read the comic this show was based on and I didn't really remember Carol's husband's name either (mostly because he was only in a few episodes and he was abusive goof anyway) so I made the quick assumption that's who was being talked about in that post. I basically didn't realize CaptainFoamerang was mixing TV and comic references there. *shrugs*That guy wasn't Tyreese. Tyreese is a big, black, ex-football player with a penchant for smashing zombie heads with a hammer. He shows up with his daughter and her boyfriend in the comics. Can't remember if it was before or after Herschel's, but I think it was before.

Quote:To be picky the flashback scene in last night's episode was on a two-lane road. The car pile-up in the previous few eps were on a stretch of four-lane Interstate somewhere. That being said I like that the story timeline is being filed in by these various flashbacks.I guess they figured, hey we got all these cars set up on the highway, let's shoot an extra scene; still, I'd rather they add to the source material through these flashbacks than the characters that do nothing and the sub-plots that go nowhere.
I think it's pretty well established that Rick is the group's leader. They may have not taken a formal vote on the matter but it's fairly obvious from a de facto point of view.Quote:Kind of weird that they'd have Carol bring up Rick's leadership position when that hasn't really been established.
Yeah I'll give you this one. The number of people we see as "Hershel's family" seems to change from episode to episode.Quote:Is it just me or did they totally skip over the introduction of those two other kids and are now acting like they've been there the whole time?
I never had a compelling need to have that "mystery" answered. The assumption of some kind of generator didn't really need to be explained in this case.Quote:Looks like they felt compelled to address the electricity with the scene by the generator.
Yeah they keep playing it kind of vague as far as how much "contamination" from zombie blood can or can't make you turn into one. It'd be nice if they nailed that detail down a little more precisely, especially when it comes to things like Daryl's crossbow bolts.Quote:I sure as hell wouldn't be using the same arrows/bolts to hunt my food as the ones I use to kill zombies.
Would tying a piece of cloth around your waste on top of the arrow really help?
Again, didn't you just use that knife to stab a zombie, and now you're cutting open your lunch with it?
The Merle hallucinations were a little cliche but they were handled well enough. At least I favored the idea of seeing Merle like that as opposed to having the show have to come up with a reasonable excuse for why Merle would have been there for real.Quote:Ugh, I can see that the writers are recognizing folks are taking a liking to Daryl, but using the hallucination as an excuse to center the episode around him just feels weak; leave the dredging up of stereotypes up to the audience and just let the characters be.
As I mentioned before it seems pretty clear that Rick and Hershel are heading towards some kind of confrontation regardless.Quote:They certainly seem to be bringing out Hershel's dickishness earlier than they did in the comic; although, just why the hell is Rick's group so eager to piss off Hershel with their inconsideration?
Glenn's adapting to the situation and becoming more confident in himself. His character growth (and I'm not just talking about the "growth" in his pants) seems perfectly reasonable here.Quote:Glenn's advances toward Maggie seem to be running counter to his earlier and persisting sheepishness.
Yeah these scenes were a little "forced" as you say.Quote:Sweet! They're finally going to give Andrea a gun and show everyone what she can do! Oh ****, really? She's not going to shoot him because she's got a scope, right? Nope of course there's glare somehow . . . So . . . stupid . . . So . . . forced.
And why the hell did everyone run out to kill one zombie?
Also, why did Glenn mention the trophy necklace and not Daryl's bloodloss?
The note-passing thing seems as forcibly dramatic as the outdoor pregnancy test scene.
Does anyone know how to play the guitar? . . . Otis did . . . WOMP-WOMP
Not sure if Carol's going to totally "shack up" with Daryl but clearly she's fairly overwhelmed and grateful that he would be willing to risk his own life to look for Sophia. Her relationship with Tyreese was obviously very abusive so her reactions to Daryl seem completely reasonable given the circumstances.Quote:A hint of Daryl totally replacing Tyreese with Carol cozying up to him?
Well I'm pretty sure he's not going to keep the zombie barn a secret at all. And as far as Lori's baby goes that secret is going to out itself eventually anyway.Quote:Glenn's little head is going to pop from all these secrets.
It definitely has plenty of rough edges, but it's still keeping me entertained which is all you can really hope from most TV shows these days. -
Quote:I'm reasonably sure Suspicious_Pkg was making a joke out of that particular post. They did explain how the farm had electricity. When Rick came up to Herschel and Herschel mentioned the missing horse. Herschel was filling up the gas tank on a home generator, which BTW, was loud as hell and certainly not something I'd want running a lot.

Still your point about the generator being loud is noteworthy because all along it has seemed like Hershel has been relatively lackadaisical about the whole idea of "defending" his farm against zombies. He simply does not seem to be as worried about them storming the farmhouse the way you'd think most rational people might be concerned about that.
I think the revelation about his collection of zombies in the barn answers this mystery to some degree. Clearly Hershel has some relatively reliable way to herd the zombies and keep them safely contained in the barn. Maybe he has learned some way to control them which also extends to being able to maintain some safe perimeter around his house. Perhaps something along these lines will explain why he never quite seems as "worried" about the zombies as everyone else seems to be. Maybe his years as Vet has taught him how to handle various types of "animals" which gives him some insight about the zombies. -
Quote:lolWould have been funny to have the barn zombies all on treadmills with live animals dangled in front of them to keep them walking. That would be a way to explain how the farm has electricty. Sort of a precursor to the Matrix.
Who knows? Maybe Herschel is the Architect!
Didn't they show silly things like that to get "useful manual labor" out of the zombies at the end of Shawn of the Dead? -
Quote:All right. There we go. We finally got a payoff for all the time we've spent on the farm. I should have seen it coming. After all, the farm people sure seemed to have a lot of food on hand even though they didn't seem to have any pigs, chickens, or crops, at least, not on screen. Now, it makes sense.Wow... that was a pretty gross theory as to why Hershel is keeping a coop of zombies in his barn.Quote:Wait. You mean that the farm people haven't been using zombies as a food source? Wow. I totally misinterpreted the meaning of last night's final scene.

Sure I'll grant you that it seems a bit weird that we haven't seen many (if any) normal animals around the farm but I can't really see Hershel stooping so low as to resort to eating zombies. At the very least they can still scavenge supplies from the surrounding towns and as crazy as Hershel might be I just don't think someone who was a medical doctor pre-ZA would be willing to eat diseased flesh much less flesh from former people.
Perhaps if this show was set in a future that was like 10 or 20 years after the ZA then I could almost see the last "normal" people becoming insane enough to eat zombies. But given that it's only been a few months post-ZA I just don't see anyone on the farm being that desperate for food. -
Quote:Although I don't put too much credence in the idea that having all these pets out would have caused excessive server load I'm pretty sure the Devs themselves believed it was going to be serious a problem. Thus the toggle nerf. Was it really soooo bad on server load if people had a non combat pet and a combat pet out at the same time? I'd be happy if they'd just let us have one of each running simultaneously.
You have to remember the history of the "non-combat pet" in this game. The first ones we got were gated by the 36 month Vet award. I can only assume the Devs did this because they figured that the subset of players who were 3+ year Vets was relatively small at the time. Now that anyone will be able to just buy non-combat pets on the Paragon Market I suppose the Devs were worried about a new source of excessive load.
It's sad, but it least it follows a pattern of keeping the total number of active pets at any one time/place limited.

I still believe people like Vice_Virtuoso are missing the point as to why the Devs decided to fix the Keyes trial. The original version of Keyes was not impossible and/or too hard to finish. I managed to complete many Keyes runs even with purely PUG groups over the last few months before the change. The REAL problem with the original version of Keyes was that for the vast majority of players it was simply way too tedious and annoying to play, especially for any kind of squishy AT. The "challenges" provided by the original Keyes didn't really stop many people from being able to actually finish the trial - they just made slogging through it far more of an arduous chore than most any other trial out there.
The changes we got to Keyes technically did not make it all that much easier to finish. Instead it just made the overall experience less annoying to deal with. If that equates to encouraging more people to give it a try then I'm all for that kind of improvement. -

Quote:We also know that Hershel supposedly had that "no gun" rule on his farm which supports the idea that he's all about the anti-violence and firmly in the "zombies are people too so we can't hurt them" camp.He has naively stated that he believes a cure will come. Whether or not its biblical (I believe he meant man will find a cure) isn't really relavent. More than likely he has those walkers pinned up because he knew them and he believes its the right thing to hold on to them until the cure comes or he's just being uber compassionate and still sees them as human beings and feels braining them before they are cured as cruel and murderous.
In other words he's not faithful or maniacal, he's an idiot. Burn the barn down!
Another possibility is he's studying them i.e. to see if they starve or "die" of natural causes. He is a vet afterall.
I'm pretty sure whatever Hershel's reason for keeping the zombies secret is going to be "kooky" because if he was just keeping them for some kind of scientific study then he probably would've told Rick about them at some point. I think he's kept them secret precisely because he knows that Rick's group just "wouldn't understand" what he's trying to accomplish.
As far as burning the barn down I think we can almost rely on some member of Rick's group doing that before the end of the episode. Just seems way too obvious not to happen.
-
I could see how someone with a leaning towards the Bible might interpret the ZA in biblical terms. But even if Hershel believes that God is testing us or will wave his "magic wand" to cure everyone then what purpose does it serve to coral up a few dozen of them in a barn? Surely if God's going to cure all the zombies then he'd cure them all everywhere whether Hershel keeps a few of them hidden away or not.
Regardless I think the idea of keeping zombies cooped up in a barn is a little deranged no matter how well intentioned Hershel is. I just don't see this going over well with Rick and company at all. No matter what happens to the barn zombies I'm pretty sure this will motivate them to leave the farm. This is why I think there's a very strong probability that the Sophia arc will finally be resolved next week too. They already made the point that finding her doll will allow them to narrow the search so they are going to find her alive, dead or undead soon. -
They are both described here.
I guess the simple answer is which is more important to you: temporary buffs to INF and salvage drops or temporary pets to help during big fights? I could see either of them being cool depending on what's more important to you. *shrugs* -
Quote:I think we've been seeing a build-up to a confrontation between Rick and Hershel for at least a couple of episodes now. Clearly Hershel at best has only been tolerating their presence on his farm for the sake of Carl. My guess is that if Carl had not been shot and the group had just (for some reason) found Hershel's farm by accident that Hershel would not have let them stay at all. I think this stay on the farm has been an attempt by the writers to show how fleeting the idea of anything being nice post-ZA really is. It's just a tragic way to show the group that even this apparent safe haven is anything but.I don't really like that Hershel is being presented as an antagonist to the group. Next to Andrea, he was the closest thing to a voice of reason in the comics. He was there to protect his family, but eventually knew Rick was right and did what he could to save the remainder.
I guess we'll have to see how Hershel "explains" why the zombies are locked up in his barn. Depending on what his motivations are will determine (for me at least) whether I consider him a full-blown antagonist or not. But I've got to say I can't really think of a "good" justification for keeping them around so things aren't looking good for a clean parting of the ways here. -
Quote:"And don't call me Shirley...""Looks like I picked a bad day to quit sniffing glue ..."Quote:Is it wrong that the first three answers I thought of when I read the title was that you could make ...

a brooch
a pterodactyl

P.S. I knew the reference Father Xmas was making even without his attached link.

I agree they've probably sat still in this one place a little too long at this point. With a show like this I figure they could probably get away with camping out somewhere for like 2 or 3 episodes tops - anymore and it starts to drag. I was really thinking they were going to resolve the Sophia arc this week and move on.
Now that we've learned that Hershel is a closet "zombie mastermind" with his little collection of zombies I pretty sure things are going to start moving again next episode. I'm positive Glenn won't keep the barn a secret from the group and they'll decide to leave regardless of whatever excuse Hershel tries to come up with.
I seriously do not think the following idea actually happened but wouldn't it be super-creepy if we find out that Hershel somehow had something to do with Sophia's absence along the lines of feeding her to his zombie pets?

Quote:I realize that the standard fairy tale story here is going to be geared so that at the end the Evil Queen "loses" and Snow White "wins" but I'm pretty sure I'm only going to be enjoying this movie during the parts when the Evil Queen has the upper hand. Once Snow White starts to win here I'm going to be disappointed. It's certainly a fairy tale that someone, somewhere, has a standard of beauty such that Kristen Stewart is "fairer" than Charlize Theron.

Quote:Yeah I would say this trailer made the movie look awesome except for reminding me Kristen Stewart is in it.Kristen Stewart is kinda like Robert Pattison: a decent enough actor, but stuck with Twilight hanging over them for awhile yet. She was great in Runaways as Joan Jett.

The whole "Stench of Twilight" surrounding her is just something I'll to have to try to forget about if I want to see this. I suppose as long as absolutely no one else related to the Twilight franchise is involved in this movie then she might be able to do a passable enough job here to let me enjoy the rest of it. -
Quote:It would be nice if they did that but could you imagine how much more pissed people would be if they had to, for some horrible reason, pull the patch back out? It's bad enough that they make us wait without explanation for 6 hours and -then- announce a new Issue launch. What if they specifically told us to wait 6 hours for a new Issue and then did not manage to deliver?Y'know... They could save these threads going nuclear if they just told us WHAT the downtime was for beforehand. Y'know, something like "Hey guys, tomorrow we're going to take the servers down for 6 hours, but during that time we're hoping to release issue 21.5 for you!"

I've been on several successful Preservation Specialist badge runs just by applying the classic "Leeroy Jenkins" maneuver down that last hallway. If you get at least 8-10 people rushing each bomb simultaneously you can pop each one in like a second or two which gives the group plenty of time to simply charge up on each one along the hallway and get them all.
The irony of course is that most of the time pulling a Leeroy usually produces an epic failure.
In this case for this badge it seems to be the easiest means to success.

Quote:I'm not technically defending any downtime this game needs to keep operating. Why do people continue to defend such downtime? It baffles me given we are way beyond the launch of Freedom to be subjected to such crude downtimes which is not the norm.
No one really needs to defend a matter of fact.
But by the same token I'm not willing to delude myself into thinking the amount of downtime this game is currently "suffering" through is excessive in the least. Sure any downtime sucks and always will, but trying to hype up the idea that what we're being subjected to is unreasonable now (or ever) is just silly.
If you're looking for an excuse to quit I'd suggest you find a more valid one than this. *shrugs* -
Quote:If the Devs decided to COMPLETELY RELAUNCH the game with a new player subscription/payment format every two months then yes, I might be willing to agree with you that there has been a SLIGHT increase to the standard amount of downtime this game experiences. But since we've only seen this kind of thing happen once in 7.5 years I'm willing to cut them just a tiny bit of slack.I agree with the original poster. Why should I continue to subscribe if there is this much downtime?
This is a terrible trend the last two months, and frankly I am starting to weigh my options.
Your lack of historical perspective on this is disturbing... -
Quote:Besides it's probably fair to say that for every fan of "serious" Leslie Nielsen who hated his comedy roles he probably gained at least another new fan that only liked (or knew) him for his comedy roles. I really don't think Leslie ever "suffered" for his change in direction in the least.Funny thing about this: Most of Leslie Nielsen's fans at the time hated him in Airplane and the other comedic movies he ended up doing. Leslie, however, felt that comedy was his true calling, and was glad that he did Airplane.
As for my example of typecast breaking how about Paul Reubens' (a.k.a Pee Wee Herman) attempt to play a "serious" evil vampire in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie.
