Quote:I'll sign onto this point as far as Superman is concerned. I don't mind "origin stories" for superheroes but if there's any superhero out there that even the general public already knows the origins of it's Superman. Can we go at least another decade or two without having to "reintroduce" him or "reanalyze" what motivates him please? My wish is the writers/directors decide to forgo the need to once again tell the origin story (something both Donner and Singer handled fine). Between those films and Smallville, I think we all get it by now. What would be nice is to finally have a super hero movie where to most powerful takes on 'a' most powerful, without all of the psycho-analyzing of "what it means to be a hero" or "how lonely it must be to be so powerful" or "I'm different, nobody understands me". We've had many movies (Watchmen, Kickass, Ironman, Nolan Batman) the last few years tackle and handle those questions just fine. I'm not saying I want a Bay mouth breather 'splosion fest. You can still write an interesting and intelligent action movie without rehashing a lot of what is overdone at this point.

Quote:Yes hopefully Ninja Run (and the presumed Beast Run) are being used as test cases for the other travel powers. This also sets a precedent for alternate animations for other travel powers. Now they can take the Powerslide animations and with some adjustments use them to create new choices for Fly.
Imagine being able to fly around while standing on a surfboard, or a block of ice, or molten rock, or a flying carpet, or a sciency/techy hover disc.
Rainbow powered unicorns for teh win!

Quote:No one really said the Devs couldn't do this as a high end Vet award if that was their prerogative. But I think your own use of the word "comical" highlights making almost anything a new Vet award is becoming irksome and comical to most players in this game. Frankly I'm expecting an ever-increasing level of dissatisfaction and push-back over even the most trivial Vet awards from now on. *shrugs*But in making it a vet reward requiring a nearly comical investment of time and money they're clearly stating that it's not something they want very many players having access to. As devs, that's their prerogative.
I think sooner or later the Devs will likely abandon further Vet awards in favor of offering anything new as microtransactions. Do the Devs want to keep a tiny fraction of "old timers" happy or the vast majority of newer players who'll never have a realistic chance to get the newest Vet awards? The choice between the two seems pretty obvious to me.

Quote:Issue 19.5 went to open beta last week on the Test server. Why would a guess from another customer be of any more relevance than yours?
If there are customers who have inside knowledge they absolutely won't post any specifics.
No doubt releasing any relevant information on upcoming content would result in their insider status being revoked.
There are no longer any customers who have any "inside knowledge" on this.
As far a guesstimating when Issue 19.5 will go live knowing the history of this game should serve us pretty well:
First of all the Devs have already told us they are targeting "early February" for the release of Issue 19.5. For the sake of scope we can assume that'll be anywhere from February 1st to the 15th. We also know that the majority of new Issue releases have happened on Tuesdays. Not all of them, but most of them at any rate. This further narrows down when it'll likely launch to either February 1st, 8th or 15th. Finally we now know the Spring Event is starting on February 10th and historically they have never launched a new Issue during an event. This would seem to eliminate the 15th as a possibility. Thus we are left with either the 1st or the 8th. There was an Issue a few years ago (forget exactly which one) that went live after less than a week after it went to open beta. Based on that the 1st is still possible.
After considering all this evidence I would currently rate February 1st about a 30% chance of being the day and the 8th about a 70% chance. Enjoy.

Quote:With the way there are people out there who like to claim they are the "first" to do something I wouldn't be a bit surprised to learn that there a few who've already done this. You could probably level all the way to 50 in Praetoria by exemping down with other people on their missions. I'd imagine you'd get really tired of running those missions over and over again though.

Quote:The question is, if Im a hero and need the arachnos base dayjob badge, could I just go to warburg and run to the base and log off there? Or do I need to become a vig?Even if your idea of getting Cannon Fodder/Arachnos Agent badge credit in Warburg was possible that would've only been 1 of the 6 redside Day Joy badges heroes can now earn via sideswitching. If you were interested in earning the others you really couldn't avoid going to other places over on the redside anyway.Quote:dangit. I hate going redside. And I hate having to park a main toon for 2 months for badges.
As Grouchybeast pointed out you could stay Vigilante, play blueside and just log off redside for the Day Jobs. Then when you have full progress bars for all of them you could just take a few days to swing around through the villain and rogue alignments back to hero to get the badges. *shrugs* -
Quote:Actually I was seriously planning to leave this thread with just my first post. But you and your post motivated me to go further. Basically this time it was your fault.Oh yeah, like if I hadn't beaten you to it, you wouldn't have.

And by the way, I wasn't hating on Turg either -- I was teasing Loth on what I just KNEW was coming (and I was right, wasn't I???).

It's sort of like that scene in the Matrix when Neo's talking to the Oracle and she's telling him about breaking the vase before he breaks it. Would I have responded a second time to this thread if you hadn't assumed I WAS going to respond a second time? Wrap your noodle around that one.

Quote:Problem is that no matter who is cast, there will always be the "he's no Christopher Reeve".
Not saying that you are like that, just making a simple statement. This is more or less the same problem they'll have to overcome when they choose the next actress to play Wonder Woman. Everyone looks to Lynda Carter as pretty much the literal "personification" of the character and I think that's been part of the reason it's been decades since the last Wonder Woman show/movie. It's as if no one seems to be able to move past having Lynda play the role.Quote:I think the problem always stems from Christopher Reeves.
He was just so damn good as Superman that unfortunately every other actor is going to have to live up to him, some have been good at playing Superman, others good at playing Clark Kent but apart from Reeves no actor has ever perfectly nailed them both.
At least in the long history of Superman we've already had at least 6-8 different guys play the part so I think it's easier in the minds of everyone to ultimately accept yet another actor for the role. As for this new guy I think it's funny that some people in this forum are saying he's "too skinny" to play the part. As far as "Hollywood magic" goes that's the kind of thing that can easily be corrected for so that's hardly a reason to think he couldn't do it.

Quote:As Snow Globe said there are currently several subsets of badges that a Praetorian can get that a Primal cannot and vise-versa.Is it possible to turn into a 'full' hero somehow or do i have to start over (again?)
For instance badges such as Moral High Ground, Resistance Member, Loyalist and Avid Reader are four badges a Primal character can't get right now. On the other hand a Praetorian character currently can't get the following Anniversary badges: Celebrant, Reveler, Pursuer, Merrymaker, Entertainer, Jubilant or Exultant.
As far as "starting over" again you have to weigh these things into account. If you really want the Primal hero versions of those badges then maybe you can have them on another alt. *shrugs* -
And for what it's worth I'd be "hating" on Turg if he had actually done something to actively exploit the system.
As it is he's basically just an overly-vocal lottery winner who likes to "rub" it in every three months.
Rest assured if there was anyone else out there who consistently "advertised" the Devs' broken Vet system I'd be "highlighting" them too.
It's certainly nothing personal. Case in point I didn't even bring up Turg's name first in this thread this time. Then again, I don't think I really had to either.
-
I'd never even considered trying to get Cannon Fodder/Arachnos Agent badge credit in Warburg until Yat Man's post but yeah I'd guess Predator would override any attempt for that regardless. *shrugs*
-
If you're still a Hero then I don't think you're going to be getting close the to Arachnos base areas in Warburg without getting attacked. Besides even though you could earn credit towards redside Day Job badges as a Vigilante you'd eventually have to shift over to full Villain before the game would actually award you those badges anyway.

Quote:At best we think the Devs are aware of the situation and, hopefully, realize how many people would be upset if there is NOT soloable incarnate content in I20. Unfortunately I don't think we can say, as of today, that the Devs have in fact GUARANTEED that's going to happen yet.No, you can only get them via the WST, and the issue 20 trials (which are soloable).

Quote:I would just offer that there's a fine line between the Devs "encouraging" us to play the way they'd prefer us to play and simply making the system arbitrarily annoying for annoyance sake. It's also possible (I can't say for certain, being only a player, but it's a guess) that the Devs don't want the OP and others playing the game that way.
If the Devs want me to waste a few hours PLing a few of my low level mules up to level 10 to make them useful to store a few extra recipes, enhancements and salvage (something that's equivalent to what we can ALL readily do by using the market storage feature without any extra effort) then I'll do that. But that doesn't mean I can't vent my annoyance about having to do that here.

Well since Praetoria was introduced with Going Rogue / Issue 18 the Paragonwiki page for Issue 18 badges has many sections that highlight Praetorian badges. I don't know if I've run across a page that lists, in total, all badges Praetorians can get in one single list, but I think the link I provided comes close to collecting that info.
Good luck.

Quote:I agree that may be the case with the way it's implemented now. But I hardly think it would be impossible to change the code to allow it to make that kind of self-check. I'm not assuming it would be a trivial change, but it certainly wouldn't be impossible either.Since emailing an item to yourself has to be done using your global name, I don't think the email system recognizes that you're sending it to yourself.
You're sending the item to that particular global name, and the email system may not be sophisticated enough to recognize that the sender and recipient are the same. -
At best I'd see this as a way to get a last few extra shards if you need a few more to finish something. I suppose you could start from scratch and let this daliy process take a few months, but that would hardly be the least-tedious way to do this.

Quote:One thing I've learned in playing this game is that pretty much every update that comes along somehow, in some way, pisses off a few people enough to ragequit. It's regrettable, but it's hardly anything new.I care less. Which is to say that I don't care at all. If people aren't having fun then they should leave. If they're leaving in a huff, well that's their business, but I'm not going to well up much concern.
Oftentimes I think many of these people are on the verge of leaving the game anyway and have just decided to let the new changes be their "final straw" to motivate them to finally go.
I honestly think people quiting over this because it doesn't look like it'll be initially soloable is a bit silly, but who am I to really judge. I imagine if I ever get to that point whatever ends up making me leave will seem silly to other people too. *shrugs* -
Quote:Sure you could do that. But remember you can only buy one Gr'ai Matter component with Vanguard merits once every 18 (or 20?) hours. I forget what the exact timer is, but it's basically only "once a day".So ...
During this double XP weekend, a non-50 could head to RWZ, participate in raids, get a holy crapton of expees, rack up a bunch of Vanguard Merits (I can land about 600 - 750 / raid),
and then, at 50, craft a bunch of common components, deconstruct those into shards ... and get a headstart on Alpha slotting?
Fascinating
So yes it would be relatively easy to do this, but it would still take a pretty long time. *shrugs* -
Quote:Hey, I just like games to follow their own rules.Wow, how did I just know that Loth would be the first to chime in on this particular subject? Now all we need is Turg in here and we'll be all complete!

Is that really -too- much to ask for?
I mostly use Turg as my "poster boy" for this problem just because he's usually the most reliable person to "pre-report" all the details of the latest Vet Award here in the forums. I've never once tried to claim that he's personally done anything wrong by getting these awards weeks earlier than he (or anyone) should have them. He's pretty much just a victim of his own luck in this situation.
If anything I almost appreciate that he loves to gloat about getting them too early here in the forums because it helps me "remind" the Devs, yet again, that their system is fundamentally broken.

Quote:Yeah as I already mentioned I realize ALL of these restrictions are currently in place to make it harder for RMTers to operate.Passing along stuff to oneself quickly so that you can juggle multiple personas to avoid being an obvious RMTer would be useful to RMTers, as well as being able to do it on a level one newly crafted account made free on a Trial or on a paying account opened with a bogus credit card, as well as having unlimited amounts of emails. So, multiple restrictions are put into place.
I would also imagine these restrictions are to stop legal accounts from quickly and easily emailing oneself unlimited amounts of inspirations to make most encounters danger-free. So, if you want a whole second tray of inspirations at your disposal through email (which you can), it will take a time commitment to set up.
I personally only want to see self-mailing not have to require me to waste time having to PL alts up to level 10. The system is not preventing me from doing what I want to do, it's just making what I want to do needlessly annoying. I have no desires to have alts act as "secondary realtime INS trays" or anything silly like that. People can already do that kind of thing now between alts higher than level 10. I just want to have the ability to pass recipes and salvage back and forth between "mule" alts the same way I already do between my active 50s. *shrugs*
Do I seriously expect this to change in our favor? No not really. I just responded here mostly as a mini-rant to highlight the point that "legitimate" non-RMT uses of the email system are being hampered by the unfortunate need to limit what RMTers try to do.
