I just saw my first RMT spammer in about maybe 6 months just the other day on Virtue. I was passing through AP and stopped off in the auction house to sell a few things when this guy started spamming in Local every 30 seconds or so.
Now admittedly I pretty much never spend any serious time in AP so I don't really know how bad the problem still is there. But the fact that I don't see RMT spamming anywhere else AT ALL is a good enough indication that the problem is sufficiently contained to not need any more attention at this point. -
Quote:While I might agree CO is no longer a "threat" to CoH (assuming it ever was) I still think it's relevant to CoH at least as far as what we can cherry-pick from them to make our game even better. We already "borrowed" their Walk and Acrobatics (a.k.a. Ninja Run) powers so I see no reason why we can't borrow other things they actually do well. For instance I'm still hoping we'll eventually borrow CO's "additional costume slots" feature. And if CO is doing a street clothes pack that'll probably actually motivate our Devs to do the same.

Quote:I told you in another thread last week that the Devs are far more likely going to be updating the older blueside TFs long before they'll bother with new redside content to "even out the numbers" between red and blue. It's nice to be proven right.I hope you are adding something to redside to balance the time spent focusing on the CTF.

P.S. I'm not and never have been strictly -against- the idea of the redside getting more content eventually. I'm just mostly against people who whine about it so much because they think they are somehow entitled to it. *shrugs* -
Quote:This was obvivously a mistake of some kind. Everyone knows the Devs only put the cool "broken" maps on the redside so a prototype redside map must have gotten included in the Synapse TF somehow. Hopefully they'll fix this problem soon because the blueside shouldn't ever be allowed to get more broken maps than the redside.Devs hate Villains and Heroes equally. <3. Now THAT is equity.

Quote:Well we all know they are working on Indy 5 right? Yes, I know, it's probably a horrible idea. But seriously there could be a scene in that movie where old Indy meets a familar looking teenaged girl at the college who seems very interested in his past exploits. After a few minutes of talking to this young girl he overhears another teacher/adult calling out to her saying something like, "Miss Croft, we're going to be late!" or some-such and she rushes out of the room with a devious smile on her face.Perhaps instead, they should show Lara's estate or home and in a room she has mementos and souvenirs of her adventures and among the items we see a glass case that contains a brown leather jacket, a fedora, a pistol and a whip......
Be a nice tribute and get people churning up ideas for how Lara could have known Indy.
That would be epic.

Quote:There are five "Prestige Power" sprints in the game. Four of them were pre-release exclusives that have since become the 12 month Vet award. The fifth (Prestige Power Slide) was part of the City of Heroes Collector DvD/Hero Bonus Kit. If you can get a code for that kit you can have that power too.Wasn't there a Sprint power that was given away to those who Beta testes CoH that still hasn't been released to the public?
I wasn't in the beta testing of CoH, so I don't know.
I seem to recall something like that, but I could be mistaken. -
History has shown us that basically nothing that was ever given away as a "limited exclusive" in this game has remained exclusive forever. I suppose it would always be possible for the Devs to decide to make this one aura be something they never again offer us via any other method. But that would be realtively silly all things considered.

Quote:Well I'll have to admit I didn't guess that one 100% correctly.Since it's account-wide, I already have it. I just have a macro that broadcasts about it {for those who haven't heard yet} so I'd like to avoid dashing people's hopes if I do it after the promotion has ended.

Still I think your key "concern" was pretty obvious - you'd like to know when it's going to end and the redname more or less answered you.
I strongly suspect this wisp aura will be introduced to everyone as a free aura in I20. It's already in the game and it would make very little sense for it to ever become an "unavailable exclusive" at some point. Basically I think they just made it a "bonus I20 preview" for those people willing to adopt the new launcher early. -
Quote:If I had to guess the "specific concern" is probably whether or not any future characters and/or accounts will be able to get access to this aura or not. Why else would anyone ask when the promotion would END?We have not announced when it will end. Do you have a specific concern regarding the wisp aura giveaway/launcher promotion?

Quote:I think you just answered your own question. Q was a cool Star Trek villain but obviously Khan was the biggest because not only did he get to be in one of the best Star Trek movies but...Hmmm Kahn or Q...and why wasn't Q ever brought in during a Star Trek movie?!
Khan was the direct inspiration for Nemesis. The bad guy in Nemesis was a "genetically engineered" dude who had this big personal vendetta against (in that case) Picard. It was a fairly direct attempt to create a Khan-like villain for Picard. Not quite sure it really worked out, but it was what it was.Quote:Well... You learn something new every day. So that's why people draw comparisons between the Wrath of Khan and Nemesis.
Anyway, just to try to pretend to get back on topic, I'll say yes to the sliders again as a NON-VET QoL improvement.

Quote:Gods forbid anything redside be broken like this. Problems like this will cause people to stop playing redside altogether. The redside clearly doesn't need "bad publicity" like this.I never ever had this happen. First time hearing of it, too. This is all just propaganda.

Anyway on a more serious note I ran this SF again on Tuesday and we did in fact have this problem with this mission. Fortunately we only had to wait around 5 minutes for a GM to show up to "unstick" the MOB. Obviously it appears to be a random problem because I've run it many other times without trouble. Oh well. -
Quote:That's kind of what I meant. It was like playing God of War 3 before God of War. I was a little upset that there was more characterization in the third Indy, though, because you'd figure the first film would have more set up. So I was trying to look at it with fresh eyes, but that end up hurting the experience more because I was wondering why I should care about this adventurer guy when I don't know about him and the film doesn't seem interested in remedying that.Well to be perfectly honest I probably liked Raiders a bit more than Last Crusade because it was in fact the "original" movie that was good enough to have inspired (so far) 3 sequels.Quote:"For its time" nothin'. Raiders is still awesome. The kinetic action, the incredible music, the hilarious dialogue... that's why it has staying power.
I really never had the problem with "lack of characterization" that CaptainFoamerang mentioned. Again I think his reaction to Raiders was unusual to say the least because Last Crusade did spend so much time covering the "minor details" of Indy's background. Raiders had already established the core character in a pretty clear and straightforward way by itself. I suppose if you got used to all the extras Last Crusade provided first you might think (like CaptainFoamerang did) that Raiders was "lacking" in detail. Very weird.
Anyway my point still stands: Watching movies "out-of-order" will definitely establish a set of perceptions that will differ from most people's notions. Not really saying that's wrong, just saying that on some level it is unfortunate because you lose the appreciation of seeing the first thing first. -
Quote:Yeah, that's the reason why I feel sorry for you.Probably a world where I'm younger than you and therefore saw Last Crusade closer to its release date than Raiders.

And by spoiled I mean by the fact that they were able to throw in some characterization and better action in Last Crusade, so it had to do more with seeing a better quality film than seeing just any film first.
You see I was able to watch Raiders back when it was cool (because no other movie of that franchise already existed that was cooler than it) AND then a few years later I was able to see Last Crusade when it was cooler still.
Basically seeing it "out-of-order" ruined your chance to appreciate that, for its time, Raiders was awesome... -
Quote:"Spoiled" would not be the word I'd use. I feel sorry for today's youth that perversions of nature such as this can take place. I frankly can't even imagine a world where I would have seen Last Crusade before Raiders.I think it was the fact that I was spoiled by seeing Last Crusade before Raiders, but I stand by my opinion.
Next you'll be telling us blasphemies like you liked the Star Wars prequel trilogy better than the original trilogy because that's the one you saw first.

Quote:It's not like they are going to wait for any single player's approval regardless.Only if they add more to villainside would I approve of them doing any more work to heroside.
Part of the reason why redsiders usually say they like the redside better than the blue is because they think many of the blueside zones look "old and dated" compared to the "detailed and realistic" redside zones. Then when someone finally talks about updating some of those older blueside zones to make them better people would rather the Devs add more to the redside first. Talk about confused points of view. Clearly as the older (and more populated) part of the game the blueside is going to have priority in any zone renovations. That's the price you redsiders have to pay for being the "new hotness".
Ironically if the Devs actually fixed up more of the blueside to be as pretty as the redside then you redsiders would have one less thing to hold against the blueside. I have to guess that's the real reason you're against this.

Quote:This probably helps to explain why most people usually like to take down the red tower first.Spider Strike and Suppression appear to be mag 18 and mag 20 base, although that's scaled by the AV knockback table and I'm not sure what that looks like. The red tower is also a 200% knockup/back buff. So probably at least mag 60, until the red tower's down.

Quote:Nope, not a Romulan. He was a eugenically enhanced human from Earth that Kirk and company dealt with in an episode of the Original Series. He was a cool enough villain that they brought him back to be the main villain in the second Star Trek movie.Wasn't Khan a Romulan? I wouldn't know either way, they almost never showed any Star Trek on TV here.
Khan is probably the single most famous Star Trek villain there ever was. Like I said I'm sure there are people out there who know 100x more about it than I do, but knowing about Khan is probably so basic they'd teach in "Sci-Fi for Kindergartners" if there were such a thing.

Quote:I live in Florida. I have relatives in Virginia, have had some in Tennessee (who moved down to FL) and MO. I've tended to drift around the SE USA. My statement stands.I was born in Central Florida and I've lived here for the better part of 40 years now.Quote:Right now I'm in Florida as well, and I've heard it, quite often, since I got down here.
And I heard it, quite often, back in Georgia.
My statement still stands. It is used by a particular population group, as an insult, against another particular population group.
It is not, by any means, a relic of a term, a forgotten term, or a not widely used term.
Now if you won't the make the argument that NCSoft should expect it's players to be better than that population group, which isn't likely to be playing an MMO to egin with, and because of that need to lift the restriction on the term "cracker" : fine. Make that argument.
Do not make the argument on the premise that it is no longer actively used.
I can't actually remember the last time I ever heard anyone use the word "cracker" as a derogatory term. *shrugs*
Now just because I don't hear it used in my usual day-to-day experience doesn't mean I couldn't easily drive to nearby places I know of where my chances of hearing it used that way would be greatly increased. There are plenty of those more "rustic" places still around, for what that's worth.
Basically it doesn't really matter how common the usage of such a word is to us.
If the Devs/GMs even vaguely think it's common enough it's going to go on the banned list. -
Quote:I'd be willing to agree with Warp_Factor at least as far as to say that as of March 2011 there are relatively few people who are doing "serious" work with iPads. To use myself as an example I'm a software engineer working for a government contractor and I can tell you in my particular line of work iPad type devices would have fairly restricted uses, even assuming we could get permission to use such devices in secured areas.Funnily enough, my company is looking into issuing iPads to factory floor engineers, because they need highly-portable computers they can use without being at a desk.
But I will not go so far as to think that iPad like devices will NEVER become far more useful in commercial/industrial applications than they are today. I myself said earlier in this thread that I still consider the iPad to be an expensive toy. But 5, 10 or 20 years from now? No, I figure by that time devices like the iPad will become far more commonplace and far more useful for "serious" work than they are today, regardless if they are Apple products or not. -
Quote:Welcome to blindlness of Political Correctness. *sigh*By now, I'm sure you're wondering what the point is, or if I'm just ranting. The point is: Is "cracker" as an offensive term really so prevalent that it's warranted a place on the list? And is there any way to request the review of a term on the list?
As an example a few months ago we were talking on this forum about a character in the classic Mel Brooks film "Blazing Saddles". That character's name is M-ongo. I had to type the dash in the name because without it the forum would have censored that word. The reason they censor it is because it's used as a general slur against people with Down Syndrome or other similar conditions. But in the context of what we were talking about in the forums no one was trying to insult and/or make fun of anyone - we were just trying to talk about a character in a funny movie.
So basically because words like "cracker" might still be offensive to some people this forum (and the game) is probably always going to be hyper-restrictive no matter what the actual context is. -
Quote:I'm not really sure why you're quibbling with me about people being "sucked into" Apple's magical marketing hype that's supposedly tying to motivate them to do all their "serious" work on iPads. Between the two of us you're the one that actually OWNS one. I haven't even let Apple's hype trick me into BUYING one yet, for any reason.I never gave a statistically absolute case of anything, I asked a question. I'll elaborate though; the thrust of most of the complaints on this thread about the iPad and iPad users seems to be that a significant number of people have been brainwashed by Apple's magical marketing department into switching from their laptop and/or smartphone when those devices would have served their needs better. I think that's baloney, and I think that any sensible person who actually thought that claim through would have to admit, if they were being honest, that it's a pretty outrageous and over the top claim. I think that people who make claims like that ought to provide some kind of evidence, even anecdotally, that their claim has some kind of substance to it. So far no one has; the only people who've said they know someone who ditched their laptop in favor of an iPad also say that those people only used their laptop for simple stuff like checking email, streaming Netflix, etc. That's stuff that the iPad clearly does better than a laptop or smartphone. Those people aren't downgrading and they aren't being brainwashed by Apple's marketing department, they're upgrading to a piece of hardware that suits their needs better than their previous devices.
Now, there have been posters pointing out that the iPad isn't a serious work computer, and that's absolutely true. I don't think any sensible person has claimed otherwise, because it's pretty flippin' obvious. I doubt a significant number of people bought an iPad expecting that from it.
Speaking strictly for myself, my iPad suits my needs better than either a laptop or smartphone would (or a TV set, for that matter), and on top of that it'll be cheaper over time than a smartphone because I'm not paying for an expensive data plan (don't need or particularly want 3G). I'm pretty confident I'm not being somehow suckered by Apple's magical marketing powers, the thing just does what I want it to do better than any other device out there and cheaper than quite a few of them. I'm pretty sure most other iPad users feel the same way. If someone else prefers a laptop and/or smartphone, good on 'em. They know what they need better than I do, and vice versa.
What's the big deal anyway? Who cares if none, some or everyone uses their iPad for serious work or not? I couldn't care less if you're "brainwashed" into only using your iPad for everything or not. Please take a deep breath and stop worrying about Apple so much. There are plenty of better things to be concerned with than this. -

Quote:I ran a PUG Numina last night on Virtue and the only problem we had was one of the zones had a Zombie zone event that made us wait an extra 5 minutes for it to clear. We had no problems getting in the way of anyone else hunting spawns.I thought about that this morning. All I can say is I am glad I am not on Virtue or Freedom
For what it's worth when they created Numina 7 years ago there were no zone events so it's not really like the Devs "hate" heroes or anything like that. It was just a silly coincidence. *shrugs* -
Quote:If that had happened he would've tried a bold maneuver to take command of someone else's cereal, broken intergalatic breakfast rules and gotten punished by being demoted back to Captain. But at least we would've gotten his cereal back.Shame that he wasn't promoted to Admiral. Now, we just need to make sure that caffeinated bacon and baconated grapefruit happens.

But alas we might have to wait 1,000 years for any of this to happen.
