Other people have already made the point that this is a "team" trial so basically everyone involved is going to have to rely on each other to stay alive. You just can't solo everything in this game.

Frankly your concern over not being able to keep yourself alive based on your "own tools or powers" is starting to sound a little too much like the classic "but I'm supposed to be able to solo anything" Scrapper rant. It always amazes me how much Scrapper players whine when they finally face one of the very few things in the game that can -actually- hurt/kill them and how quickly they assume those things are bugs that need to be fixed. Even Superman had his Kryptonite...

Consider this one of the few times you actually have to think and use some tactics to stay alive. *shrugs*

Well since this cool suggestion has been made repeatedly for years now I guess you can guess what the odds are of this happening.

This is yet another example of the Devs arbitrarily REPLACING one costume option for another. This is yet another case where they should have simply ADDED the new version of the face and kept the original one as an option.

I've never understood why the Devs have felt the need to upset players pointlessly like this. Clearly there are always going to be people who like the original versions of things despite any problems the Devs -think- they are fixing by replacing them with other options. Would it have really destroyed the game to have provided us both versions of this face to choose from?
  4. I forget the exact amount of damage involved but I'm pretty sure if you are next to one of the fire buildings in Steel Canyon when it blows up it'll do like 5,000 HPs of damage to any AT. *shrugs*

I agree that a game like this should not have too many "one-shot-kill" scenarios because it would become annoying after a while. That's pretty much why the Devs added the one-shot code to handle most of those situations. But I actually don't mind the idea that there are would be at least a few things that could insta-kill us like this. This game, for the most part, is relatively easy to play - the idea that there are a few things out there that can kill anyone instantly makes it more challenging and interesting.

Encounters like this are supposed to be among the hardest in the game.
I see little reason to be too upset about the cheesy tactics they use.

I think you pretty much highlighted the well known reasons why it's taken this long for the Devs to finally start giving us -any- kind of costume oriented backpacks. I can't really speak as to why the original character models caused backpacks to be such a hard thing to do "right" in this game or why it still seems like a goal they haven't quite reached yet. But at this point I'm totally willing to get more packs added to this game even if they are only 90% good instead of totally perfect.

I'm glad the Devs tried their best to get these things to fit our characters' backs perfectly. But clearly it's time for a bit of compromise to their otherwise exacting standards. Basically after 7+ years I'd rather (for example) have a costume item jet pack that might not look great from a few posing angles than not have one at all. *shrugs*

As someone with many years of professional software engineering experience I'd be the first to caution others here against assuming that any given code change to this game would automatically be trivial. Standard Code Rant and all that. But by the same token based on my experience I do not believe that adding a color swap button like we are talking about here would be prohibitively difficult either. Or at least it shouldn't be at any rate.

The costume editor currently maintains some code structure to store the "first color" and "second color" variable values displayed on the screen. Adding a new button to the GUI to simply transpose the assignment of those variables should very literally only involve a few lines of coding. Sure this could become more complex if they wanted to make this feature somehow more convoluted with layered buttons or somesuch. But if they kept it simple as a standalone button it's hard to see how it would be that "scary" for the Devs to tackle. To put it another way if this costume editor really is such a tangled mess that adding a new button to it is too hard then we as players really have much more to worry about than this tiny QoL suggestion.

Given that our Devs have been so kind to us over the years adding all sorts of QoL improvements to this game that involved hundreds if not thousands of man-hours worth of work over the years it still mystifies me that a player request that would by any reasonable estimation involve only a fraction of the development effort that other features have required has slipped through the cracks.

I'm not opposed to such a button as suggested, but I don't understand the talk about this being a cumbersome process. Am I missing something?
No, it's not "cumbersome" to click one color to the second and the second color to the first on any given item if you only do it few times.

But what we are talking about is something like this: Let's say you have gloves that you want to use a shade of red and blue on to match the rest of your outfit. Depending on the rest of your outfit you're not instantly sure if it should be red/blue or blue/red. It would be amazingly nice to have a single toggle button (and NO mouse movement) to quickly "flip" those colors back and forth multiple times to make up your mind.

To be perfectly serious in the last 7+ years I've probably performed your "all of three seconds" color change maneuver so many times that I probably could have saved several total hours of my life if I had had a single swap color button. I think it's fair to say the QoL benefit of such a button would be clear to people who do a lot of costuming in this game.
  8. All I know is that Prestige might have been a good idea back during Issue 6 when villains were new, there was no market and SG PvP base raiding was going to be a major part of this game.

Unfortunately the game has evolved so much past that we're left with a lame-duck currency that has essentially no purpose other than to serve as an annoying one-way Influence sink of questionable effectiveness. Base item prices have been lowered so much since the beginning that I would argue the idea of Prestige still serving as a mechanism for people to "feel good about contributing to a SG" is all but moot.

Even though the Devs -ought- to overhaul bases and/or Prestige I have no delusions that they're going to do that anytime soon (if ever) at this point. Sure reducing the conversion rate from 500:1 to like 250:1 would make things easier. But at the same time Influence is so easy to horde now that if you're going to make the effort to do massive conversions at a 250:1 rate then doing them at the 500:1 rate is not really going to slow you down much either. So it takes you two weeks to get a base item by dumping Influence into it instead of one week - not seeing a major problem with that. *shrugs*

I'm still stuck at my original conclusion with all this: If the Devs aren't going to do a fundamental rethink on how SG bases work and how we pay for them then I'm not really sure they should be tinkered with at all.

    Loved the look.
I'm sure the artwork on the particular MtG card you're talking about looked good. But trust me when I say that the artwork from a MtG card didn't "invent" the idea of the "little girl big sword" thing. That concept, like most things, has been around far longer than the early 90s.
  10. Yep this one's been suggested for years. And in the grand scheme of things it would be very trivial from a programming point of view - we're not talking about something massive like Power Customization here, just a button that swaps two color values in a GUI. Why it hasn't happended yet is semi-amazing to me.
  11. It's quite possible the Cimeroran Lore Pets might end up being one of the "best" Lore Pet sets, depending on what your definition of "best" is.

But there are going to be plenty of people picking Lore Pets based more for how they fit their character concepts than for which one has the greatest DPS or somesuch. After all the main reason why the Devs gave us more Lore Pet choices wasn't because the original four sucked gamewise - it was because players wanted more selection over what kinds of pets they could pick from.

I never bothered to see Season of the Witch, but my guess is that whatever role Ron played in it was entertaining by itself just because he's good at what he does. I might eventually watch that movie just for Ron's sake despite the rest of the movie being bad. It's the same reason I might eventualy stomach watching Red Riding Hood just because I'm a fan of Gary Oldman.

I was going to give this new Conan a chance anyway, but I didn't realize Ron Perlman was going to be in it too. For me I've gotten to the point where I'll pretty much watch any movie Ron's in regardless of the role he plays.

    The Chest Slider

A "perfect" MMO body editor would allow for a full spectrum of acceptable looking female chest sizes ranging from flat all the way up to "OMG Powergirl" sized. Obviously the current editor in this game cannot accomplish that.

It would be nice if it could someday but we may just have to accept the idea that this game will never be able to handle it graphically. Something to look forward to in CoH2 perhaps. *shrugs*

you can make costumes and then save them to your drive. Only apply the ones you really want to a costume slot
Combine that with using the Test Server and you can test edit as much as you want before you actually "spend" anything for real.

I have characters with around that many tokens racked up. Since I always do serious costume editing on the Test Server (and INF is trivial to obtain and spend) I never really use them.

As far as costume slots go I have several characters who I'd probably buy an extra dozen slots for if I could.

Welcome to the game Walpurgis Nacht. As Neuronia implied this suggestion has come up in these forums every few months for over 7 years now. For whatever reasons the Devs have not changed it yet.

I think this game should allow for the "typical" overly-huge back-breaking superheroine chest sizes. I actually have a few characters where I think the Powergirl-styled "larger than realistic" sizes are appropriate. But I have always felt that the game should ALSO allow us to make flat-chested girls too. I have several other characters who, if I had my way, would be far less endowed than the game currently allows for. *shrugs*

They're at the top of a pointless list. So what?

They get to dainty up their base a bit faster. So what?

Why should everyone *else* be penalized - and I don't think you'll find many that say that isn't a highly punitive rate - because a *few* might be able to rush getting a *second* large meeting room or something? It has no effect on anyone else, and if it's designed as an INF sink (which, really, it is,) it has so far failed pretty miserably overall because *of* that rate.

Change the rate to make it more attractive to use, pulling more INF out of the system so some private bases can be made more "homey" more quickly.

There really *isn't* a downside here.
Well to be perfectly honest I'm only technically "against" the Devs shifting the current conversion rate to a lower level for the reason that, like others have said, I too believe the entire concept of Prestige has far outlived its usefulness. At this point SG bases should be INF based, period.

I would rather the Devs waste their efforts to overhaul SG bases and remove Prestige entirely from the game than to reduce it down to a trivial level as a band-aid afterthought. My thinking is that it'd be far more silly for it to be set at 1:1 ratio than it would be for it to be completely removed. Prestige should either serve a significant purpose in this game (i.e. as a 500:1 ratio threshold) or none at all.

I consider it the "fix it completely or don't bother with it at all" solution.
Anything else would just be half-baked and semi-pointless.
  19. It still seems funny to me that people posting on this thread are still commenting on the "cure for aging" mentioned in original post from a purely biological point of view. As I mentioned in my last post by the time this kind of biological cure becomes a reality the Technological Singularity will also be upon us.

This breakthrough will not only mean that artificial intelligences will become a reality but it also means that we will eventually be able to merge our natural biology with technology. Sure that final transcendent leap may take a few hundred more years to accomplish, but it'll happen one way or another. The very concept of "immortality" will take on a new meaning when we are backing up our minds into new robotic bodies and/or computers for the rest of eternity.

You can certainly dislike the whole idea of the INF to Prestige conversion if you wish. But if the Devs ever decided that the ratio "needed" to be changed from 500:1 to something like 50,000:1 then they might as well remove it from the game altogether. Sure extreme groups like the Crazy 88's might still try to work with that stupidly high ratio, but setting it there would pretty much mean that no "regular" players would ever be able to realistically use it again.

For years I thought the current 500:1 ratio was too high, especially before the Market existed. But the actions of the Crazy 88's pretty much prove that the ratio has to be kept high enough so that the conversion don't become absolutely trivial. Sadly I've more or less accepted that all things being equal the 500:1 ratio is probably the best compromise between the Crazy 88 type players and rest of the non-extreme players out there.

Pretty much the same. I might try a -new- character with the set but I have no characters I'd expect to re-roll using it.

Frankly I've always thought the idea of anime-styled "titanic" weapons to be a bit silly logistics-wise. Sure characters can be super strong but the idea of trying to swing around swords the size of swimming pool diving boards just strikes me as a bit of a stretch, especially within the limited confines of most any place indoors. But I have faith in how this game might handle them and thus willing to keep an open mind about it.
  22. There have been scientists claiming that we are "close" to curing old age for decades now and I still have no doubt that given another 50 or 100 years that will actually be the case.

But people tend to forget that along with biological immortality we are still also only 50 or 100 years from the technological singularity as well. Basically that means the definitions of life and how much of it is either biological, machine-based and/or artificial is quickly going to become blurred. When you throw non-biological technology into the mix the idea of anything "living" forever or getting bored with that is going to take on meanings we can hardly imagine at this point.

Ever since the first Anniversary badge I predicted that this debate over whether there should ever be a way to get previous year badges or not was going to haunt this game forever. The fact that threads like this one still routinely pop up proves my concern about this.

Frankly it was a relatively dumb idea that these were never offered as account badges. But I still maintain the stronger position that even offering ANY kind of real world based Anniversary badges in this game was kind of silly to begin with. Think of it this way: why would Captain Wonderful, a fictional hero in Paragon city, ever be awarded a badge just because a real-world MMO game managed to get one year older? Anniversary badges celebrating the continued existence of a game has NO RELATION whatsoever to personal lives of the characters inside that game. It'd be like giving an in-game award to a D&D character just because that game turned 30+ years old.

Basically if this game had never bothered with the confusion of Anniversary badges we wouldn't be in the mess of worrying about whether the old ones should be available or not. *shrugs*
  24. I would pay for extra costume slots for characters. I don't care if it'd be handled globally or pay per slot per character. I've wanted to get more costume slots for so long on my main characters that I'd even be willing to pay like $5 per extra costume slot and get like a dozen new slots for each of them this way.

There are crazy people out there who've paid hundreds of dollars for extra character slots or multiple accounts.
I'm just one of those crazy people who'd be willing to do the same for extra costume slots.

Just like everything else it depends.

On many of my characters I probably would not use more than the current 5 costume slots allowable even if extra ones were free to them. Those characters are not really "costume oriented" at all.

But I have a few main characters that I would (if I could) unlock a dozen or more costume slots on, even if I had to pay as much as like $5 per slot per character. Those characters I consider extremely "costume oriented". Basically at this point I've waited years for (and will gladly pay for) any new costume slots I can get for those characters.
