In Dark Astoria both sides come across as incredibly flat. It does a really poor job convincing me the world is actually going to come to an end.

Once again, Eva...your reaction to this Issue--and the last 4--is entirely subjective. You have had a very low opinion of the developers and their storytelling capabilities for years now. You've made your opinion very obvious in hundreds of different threads over the course of the last few issues.

With respect to the above statement though, I thought the atmosphere of the zone and the overall story did a wonderful job portraying what the writers and designers intended. I have no qualms with the quality of writing in Issue 22 (what I've tested of it thus far) or the quality of writing of the SSAs. Or the quality of anything released since Issue 18 (with the possible exception of the initial Dr. Graves arc...and even that wasn't SO bad). I think these writers now are leagues better than the writers of the legacy content.

So, with all things Internet, YMMV.

I suppose you could make Incarnate progress by taking down Malta and Council and so on, but that's really not the Incarnate STORYLINE.
What you say is true, however, are you required to run through Ramiel's arc to begin your path to Incarnate power? Can you not unlock all of your abilities without ever setting foot in Oroboros? Do you have to converse with Prometheus to participate in any of the trials?

I understand your viewpoint with regards to the storyline, but if you choose to proceed with said storyline, then you choose to be beholden to the "puddle of mild annoyance".

Edited to add: There's also no reason why you can't turn your back on the Well entirely and use what knowledge you gained to forge your own path (completely free of the Well mind you).

With Issue 22 though, there's no reason to even be involved with the puddle for any story progression (unless you want to proceed with the Praetorian storyline).

  4. Something that I just cannot seem to understand is why...WHY...do people get so caught up in "the well this" and "the well that".

The only interaction anyone EVER has with the Well is in Mender Ramiel's story arc and in conversation with Prometheus. There are only 2 components in the ENTIRE Incarnate system that involve the Well (the Notice and the Favor). To say that this system and all the PCs involved in it are tied to the Well is just asinine. The only way your character is tied EXCLUSIVELY to the Well is by listening to Mender Ramiel and his ilk. You can easily accomplish meaningful progression along the Incarnate path without involving yourself with Ramiel, the Well, or Big Blue.

If you feel like your characters are somehow chained to Eva's "puddle of annoyance", then don't run Ramiel's arc. And for God's sake, don't listen to the Big Blue guy standing in a citadel of manipulators and liars.

Edit: Yes, I know there is a third component that is called "Drop of the Well", but according to its text, it's more of condensed, raw power.

How well do you think people would respond to 3 or 4 "tips" combined with a morality mission at the end (all of them being one-shots, just compiled as a single "arc")?
  7. I just hopped onto the forums this morning to check out some stuff before work and ran across this thread in General Discussion.

I for one love tip missions myself and think they are some of the best content we've seen released and would love to see more added to the game. I don't know about the rest of you, but I would be rather interested in creating a bunch of one-shots for other players to answer this call.
  8. I think what you're seeing is the "Celestial" costume set. It is (or was...I haven't looked recently) the Tier 9 VIP reward. Post a picture and one of us could tell you for sure.

I think they would have been more fun if there was a more epic feel to them; nothing feels lamer than getting whooped by a turret . Man I wish they would add more supers type stuff
To continue with GG's serious post:

The Incarnate story has been in the works since GR beta as they were working on I-19 and I-20. After the initial trials launched in 19 and posters began b****ing about the trials and grind, it was too late for the developers to release a viable solo path as they were ALREADY working on I-21 and Freedom (per Posi in a post made relatively recently). After people began clamoring for a solo path, it was placed on their development schedule. It is coming, you (not YOU specifically, you in the more general sense referring to the above-mentioned b****ers and complainers) are just going to have to wait.

Edited to add: The story focusing on Praetoria (Praetoria /= GR. GR refers to the Alignment system) is going to continue for at least 2 more issues (including I21) culminating in a head-to-head versus Tyrant (speculation). This story NEEDS to reach its conclusion and not just end with a bunch of dangling plot threads like so much of the vanilla game.

There is no access to the AE unless you are at/above reward level 2 (one month sub/$15 in Paragon Points/Retail box purchase). At that level you have access to playing through AE content (no rewards). At reward level 4 ($60 in Paragon Points or 4 month sub) you can play through AE content with rewards.

In order to create missions through the Architect, you either have to be VIP or have attained at least Reward Level 6 (12 month sub/$180 PP).

    - Is it possible to make a group with ONE boss on patrol?
Possibly, but I believe it depends on the difficulty settings of the player running your arc.

    Quote:
    - Why is it some custom made EBs and AVs don't share the same color rating? For example, I made two EBs, a Kinetic Melee/Energy Aura and Electrical Melee/Electrical Armor. Kinetic Melee is level 52 and cons red while Electrical Melee is ALSO 52 but cons purple? Same thing with certain AVs.
If you want all of your mobs to spawn at the same combat/threat level, make sure your pacing (found under "Mission Parameters") is set to flat. There are sometimes spawns that will not con the same, but generally they'll be pretty even.

    Quote:
    - Just what is the proper amount of minions, lieutenants, captains and bosses in a regular mob anyway? I've been told so many conflcting answers. 1 in each group? or 3 in minions and in in each of the remaining levels?
This question is entirely subjective and differs based on a number of factors. The biggest thing you should concern yourself with is whether YOU are satisfied with your custom group.

    - not a question but a gripe, it's a bit frustrating when original names aren't allowed. for example my villain, a chinese necromancer from china, is called the Ghost's Hand. Another one, a stalker (broadsword and super reflexes) is called Johnny Shadow but yet the game won't allow me to use their names despite the fact the names are **nowhere** to be found anywhere.
This is a huge issue with the Architect. They instituted a profanity filter a while back that filters out known copy-righted names. Unfortunately, a good deal of those names are shared by canon characters and they are copy-righted as well. "Ghost" is the culprit in Ghost's Hand (Hand may be too). I'm not sure about Johnny Shadow, but I'd be willing to bet the offender there is "Johnny". It sucks, but until they COMPLETELY fix the filter, we have to work within the limits we have.

    Thankyou everyone so much

Actually, most of those wearing capes are either wearing capes from one of the multitude of boosters we've gotten or some other in-game item pack (i.e. Valkyrie). However, once you get a character to level 50 and start participating in the Incarnate System, one of the rewards you can get in the system is a cape unlock feature which will unlock a cape for ONE level 1 character that you have.

Short answer, those lowbies are more than likely piggy-backing off one of their higher level characters.

Edit: And too slow of course

They're still only very low about 10 and during my off time i've been browsing the forums and I stumbled across this section. The chance to make my own arcs and have people play them, woo hoo!

Do I need to have left Praetoria and be a bit bigger before I can make a story arc? If not, where in Praetoria would I find the place to go?

I've scanned some tutorials on creating my arc but either i'm not seeing the answer i'm after or i'm blind as a bat. If it is here somewhere could someone please post me a link to the relevent thead.

Thankyou in advance for any helpful replies

Hi Raeda, and welcome to the City! Unfortunately the citizens of Praetoria have no access to the wonder that is Architect Entertainment. When you leave Praetoria, though, there will be an AE building in either Talos Island or Sharkhead Isle (where you go is dependent on your final choice in Praetoria).

Luckily for you, that is the only level restriction on the Architect system. If you create a hero or villain from scratch, there is an AE building in Atlas Park and Mercy Island.

Enjoy your time in the city and please post your arc on the forums when you complete it! We would all love to give it a shot and post our feedback.

IIRC, Golden Girl, CoH initially only had Atlas Park as the starting zone, but due to the amount of traffic (during beta or just after launch...can't really remember which) they added Galaxy City in for those that wanted to start in a less crowded area. So, while not a mistake, it wasn't as necessary as they believed at the time.

I find it unrealistic to assume they don't know who someone like BABs, Positron, or Statesman is.

Fusionette, Doc Buzzsaw-- someone on that level I could easily assume they are unknown to the general public.

Granted, not ALL characters would necessarily know who he is-- the PC might be from another time or world or country, but IMO it's PLAUSIBLE they would know who he is.

The primary issue with your thought is that the death of the Back Alley Brawler will only resonate with those of us that have experienced the game. BAB may be one of the Surviving Eight, but a brand new player will neither know nor care. Therefore, new players that have never had any interaction with the Brawler (in-game or on the forums where the name was made (in)famous) will not give 2 sh**s less about some chump that died in the tutorial. So, while it would matter to us, it's still not a very wise decision. If they killed him around level 40 or so...that's a different story.

So I would like for the allies to be counted as players in this situation. Although, in the beginning of the mission, before the allies are contacted and during our collaboration, I like the way the mobs are set up as is; I am only concerned about the boss and minions.
The easiest way I've found to overcome this is to set your boss encounter to hard. That will either up the number of mobs around your boss or it will increase the rank of them. Regardless, either change makes the encounter more difficult (generally).
  22. I don't really use binds all that much, so no. I do keep hasten on auto-fire and even it wasn't activating. I have to assume I lost my Secondary Mutation as well, since I didn't see the blue swirly aura that accompanies it.
  23. While running a BAF, I ran into a bit of a snafu. Bug report reposted here for your viewing pleasure

    Quote:
Upon entering a BAF trial after loading, my powers were deleted from their trays. They are all greyed out in my Powers tab and inaccessible via the Enhancement screen. They DO show up via the /info command. My Incarnate slots have also been completely unslotted and don't appear at all.

Also, my character is earning all rewards from the objective completes, as well as enemy defeats. I can also communicate back and forth between all chat tabs (so no connection/lag issues).

After loading back into Pocket D, I was able to re-tray all my powers and access them normally.
I think Null, the Gull went a little overboard on that one I couldn't attack, couldn't sprint, couldn't fly...couldn't do anything at all except spectate. Thankfully, the leader didn't seem to mind.

Personally, with the final phase, I don't think there is much point in worrying about entanglement, unless you're getting hit with disintegrate.
Currently, my only Incarnate is a blaster, so Entanglement doesn't really bother me. Most of the time I'm hover-blasting, but when I do get in there to drop burn and Rain of Fire, I'm in and out, so I barely notice any ill effects of the Entanglement.

As to the temp power statement: It helps that the Power Cells drop automatically into the tray. All the times I've done the Lamda, I've had to keep an eye on my power tab to drop the acid/grenade into my tray, but not so with the Keyes. Makes it as idiot-proof as you can get.

    I enjoyed that!

Just finished the Keyes Island Trial a while ago myself, and I must applaud the devs for their work on it.

The entire trial was exquisitely done. I had more fun on it than I had on either the BAF or the Lamda before (and I happen to thoroughly enjoy both of them). Even with a league that was completely clueless, the deaths were minimal and everything ran smoothly after we got about halfway through and started figuring things out.

This trial may turn out to be the easiest one to complete once everyone knows what to do.
