Rule #1 of any forum is- Don't post angry.

Honestly, 99% of the people who read what you write aren't going to care, but if you set yourself up to be given a hard time, then you just make it easy for people.

You were wrong, man up and admit it, and move on, or ignore it. No need to be snarky in a painfully inadequate attempt to make someone feel bad for pointing out you were wrong.

What you'll find is there are very few guides/builds written for "as you level" That's because almost anything works. Pointing you to existing guides that are built around being level 50 and having money to spend on sets and enhancers won't help you.

I'm talking about simple things like storm clouds, hurled boulders (which require a bottom, no less) and fast-moving acrobatic like Eagle's Claw or Eviscerate.

You can place characters in a hover and dunk them underwater. That much is easily provable. What's not as easily provable is doing this in a way that feels like actually being underwater, as opposed to floating through blue caves where Earth and Stone users are totally SOL.

I've seen Champions attempt. It doesn't look like water and it doesn't feel like water. All the fish and standing plants don't make up for my ability to throw barrels Donkey Kong style and hold my breath indefinitely.
Correct. WoW's answer to underwater combat was to use all the standard animations underwater, and it looks (to say the least) terrible.
  4. If you play enough other content to earn 50 Reward Merits a day, Getting 2.5 A-Merits every 2 days is well worth the cost of conversion. Getting rare IOs that normally cost hundreds of millions, or several random rolls that can usually be sold for those high prices, really make them a good deal.

Buying Purples or PvP recipes is less of a good deal, but if you're already set for the more regular stuff, then it's still a good way to save up and get something you need.

A lot of electrical attacks take End Mod recipes.

It would never be that. If a GM felt it was a serious infraction, they'd go into chat logs to see who said what to whom.

In the end though, while frustrating and inconvenient, there's nothing directly against the rules done from what I've seen in this thread. This is why they added the player notes and star ratings. Put the person on ignore, write a note, and 1 star them, then move on with your life.

It's a test, not a preview. It may not be closed beta, but it's still always best to assume anything you see on Test is NOT the final version.

Test what you're given, and if it passes muster ask if that's everything. Making assumptions just leads to unneeded sturm and drang, as some posts above make clear.

They very often don't go into full detail because they're working a build or two ahead internally anyway. This is nothing new and people just need to remember that. Information for the people testing is nice, but not necessary most of the time.
  8. If there's a time limit, then they really need to implement a line on the interface with a countdown. There's a lot of simple features that have existed in other game's emails that they should have looked at, noticed, and put in when they expanded our email.

To me, that's the advantage of waiting so long before they did it, but they kind of blew it. pohsyb et. al. do great work, but in this case it's a pretty glaring flaw.

There's no way in hell an MM would get invulnerable pets for their minion.

I should think that the length of your answer would be a clear indicator of why the question wasn't answered fully in the QA. It's probably pretty much the answer a dev would give if they had been tasked to do a memo on it, but the fact that your name isn't red means someone gets to ding you, whereas if it had been Castle it would have 2 pages of kudos.
  12. So in other words you want a Pay-To veteran reward. There's a discussion about paid vet rewards already going in Suggestions. Doesn't matter that you only want one reward to be made paid. The arguments are the same.

I've never completed a redside trial because of this difference.
Organization and a team that can focus for 5-10 minutes help a lot. You don't have to kill fast if everyone is killing and people have spatial awareness to stay safe and not duplicate efforts. If everyone is killing evenly, you don't have to kill particularly quickly.

It's just a matter of sustained effort.

Sorry you've never succeeded, but your anecdotes (about this and other SFs) are clearly not the norm. Most people do, and do well once they know the ropes.

Convincing to you (or anyone with a partisan view) is not the same standard as objectively fair. I personally have never seen any reason good enough to make the change. We cancel each other out, where does that leave us?

As it stands, everyone is equal. A pay-to system makes people with the cash to blow better. That should be clearly and obviously unfair to anyone who looks.

When someone chose to start playing isn't a relevant fact in this discussion.

    Veteran Rewards

I don't have a problem with the ideas some have had for creating a Vet Points system or some kind of Choice system so that people can things they want sooner, but I will argue against any system that lets someone with a big wallet walk in the door and buy rewards from a system that is currently totally fair (everyone gets the same thing for the same time).

I think they could accomplish the same thing without forcing players to change anything with their builds, by adjusting the power cost curve. Lower costs early on would accomplish the same thing.
  17. There's nothing particularly harder about the Red Side respec. The case you cited (lowbies with bad builds) is something that fails on EITHER side, and honestly the trials weren't designed around such teams. You're SUPPOSED to be bringing some people tough enough to do well.
  18. I think it would be cool if they had a temp power or a buff that sets a flag to unlock special ammo types under Swap Ammo. Silver Bullets for wolves, or Redding type rounds from Vanguard. The downside to that is there could quickly be too may types to swap through, unless they came up with a way to include or exclude at will.

Too bad it will never happen, since it only matters for one set.
  19. We don't need to get into an extended argument about how speed runners are eating our merit babies. Just do something the OP didn't when he looked at the list. Count the number of missions. On top of that, take a couple minutes to get a rough count on the number of zones you have to go through.

Villain SFs are flat out shorter than most Hero TFs, for the simple fact that most Hero TFs were added at a time when they were running under radically different design rules.

There's a lot of factors you have to account for before you make the snap judgement "that's not fair"

P.s. Black pebble, I can not pM you but I have a bit of a request:

Can you please STOP directing people to Twitter and Facebook? Social networking sites should be used to direct people TO the Cityofheroes website; please stop directing people AWAY from the website.

Please post the upcoming Q&A information here on the website and any other information pertaining to Cityofheroes/CityofVillains.
We're discussing ways to spread the word about the game to people beyond those who get it now, and you're actually pushing for the reverse?

I prefer they release info in any medium they choose. Better than no information at all, or buried somewhere in the forums.

Little bits and bobs that doesn't deserve a full blown webpage are perfect for Twitter.

Not hearing the info in the approximately 3.4 seconds it usually takes someone to repost anything from Twitter back here, is not an adequate reason not to use it.

However, I will say that it would be a fantastic idea for the website people to insert code similar to what they use at Slate magazine. Scroll down a little ways and you see the Twitter feed box which aggregates tweets from their staff. I know the majority of dev posts have nothing to do with the game, but still I think that's a much more forward thinking solution than ignoring the fact that the web has moved beyond forums and websites to in some respects.

Ideas are fine. Just don't get so attached with how awesome you think they are that you can't examine the facts of why people might disagree objectively.

Keep thinking. Keep posting. Just be prepared to either defend your idea or keep an open mind as to why it may not work (preferably defend it AND keep an open mind).
  23. I think there are other pools that need more help and better reasons to take them than does Fitness need to be given a lesser reason to take it, by making it available to all. *waves at the Presence Pool*

The second they try to tie it into completing content, people will work on ways to circumvent whatever time/difficulty constraints they put into that content. In other words, you're going from a fixed cost that's the same for almost everyone, to a system that can be gamed by players with more or less resources available to them.

On it's face, you're trying to make things "more fair" but they will end up being less fair, for the same reasons that AE exploits are hunted down and squashed by the developers. Content design isn't at the point where the system is flexible enough to create something that is equally challenging for all builds.

It would take a bit of programming, but on the accounts/web team's part. The only thing needed is to be able to generate codes for people to pay for. What am I talking about?

    • CoH Collector's Edition in-game goodies. VIP/Destined One badge, Prestige Power Slide temp power, and the Cape of the Four Winds costume piece.
    • CoV Collector's Edition in-game goodies. Arachnos cape and chest symbol.

As a suggestion, get a programmer to bundle the above into a new Original Collector's Editions In-game Goody Pack code for people to throw money at Paragon Studios.
I have something that the ingame store NEEDS and doesn't have currently:
Allow people to gift game time/item packs/other goodies

I've PM'd Avatea about this and you may not be the person she got in touch with about it, but if you have anything to say about it, push for this.

In short: I used to be able to get a code that I could send to someone and they could use it. Because of security changes (primarily because of problems in other NC games), that doesn't work any more. However other games have secure ways to gift fun little things to other people.

You'd have more of my money if I could gift item packs to my girlfriend. nuff said.

The thing with ideas like this is, they're not going to be anything other than an "oh cool" moment. The big soda/food/whatever makers do their advertising with an eye toward Millions of people at once, not tens of thousands.

I for one pay my subscription fee so I have a place that specifically ISN'T subject to real world product placement. I've seen it in all forms, and it's just tasteless and insidious to me. If there weren't an opt out, I seriously would have stopped subscribing to this game (as much as I love it) when the original ingame ads started.

Big companies don't pay big bucks to advertise to a few thousand gamers. It doesn't pay. It's not worth the money, either for the people who take the time to engineer the ads ingame, or the people paying to be seen.

Besides, we're here to come up with ways to promote this game to the people who currently aren't playing. I defy anyone to even anecdotally tell me they would subscribe to a game simply because that game had "realistic ads"

It won't bring in new people. Ideas that bring in new people are good. Ideas that either try to pull money out of my pocket, or money out of the pockets of advertisers when it serves no purpose aren't good.
