Can you petition a player for this?
You can petition for anything you want, the question is whether or not it's a waste of your time and a GM's time. This sounds like griefing, but it's awfully hard to prove or even tell. For all you know, someone else happened to be at the guy's computer while he wasn't and logged him off (probably not, but can you prove this wasn't the case?).
Petition if you feel the need to, but I doubt much would come of it.

You can, but unless you can prove he did it on purpose or he has a history of such happenings, I don't see much coming of it. There was no blatently grieving there.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
Another player sent him a tell asking why he quit, and he said someone called him a noob. Nothing was said in team chat to that effect, and nothing 'bad' happened that would prompt a player to do that, so I don't believe him. Sure it's possible if sent in a private tell, but when he was asked who on the team said that to him, his response was "I don't remember".
It's a crummy thing to do but it's not griefing. Just forget about it and move on. You can't police stupid.

If the team was willing to wait, I'd have /petitioned to see if the GM were able to grant a copy of the temp to someone else.
Sadly, there's not much you can do about the player.
@Roderick
My instincts say this will be a case of your word against his. My suggestion is to make a note about the player's global and NEVER team with him again

In the end though, while frustrating and inconvenient, there's nothing directly against the rules done from what I've seen in this thread. This is why they added the player notes and star ratings. Put the person on ignore, write a note, and 1 star them, then move on with your life.

It's funny to see this on here, since I'm almost certain I'm the one who was leading the TF when this happened (or an eerily similar situation happened to my team).
Like Hazzard said, things were going fairly smoothly. We had had a couple near team wipes due to over aggro, and we ran into an issue when someone accidentally aggro'd Doc Aeon, but I was fairly sure we were going to be able to finish it. Then the tank just bailed with no explanation. I'm not sure if someone actually called him a noob or not, though I believe there was one semi-sarcastic comment about him needing to hold aggro better.
Like the others said though, it's almost certainly going to be a waste of time to petition him over it. Hopefully you were able to one-star him (I know I did) and put him on ignore.

I know I have personally taken great satisfaction in seeing known problem players get booted when they show up for TF teams, due to player notes.
This is the best way to handle these types of players. Add some player notes for them, one star them, and move on. That kind of behavior will only end up hurting them in the long run, especially on smaller servers where they can't blend into the crowd as easily.

Another one that is bad, is being kicked for no reason. Had that happen to me on the next to last mission of the old Posi TF. Just 1 star them and add a note is the way to go. I didn't bother to petition them in that case either, and I think that is even more blatant of a grief. He was even good enough to know that waiting until the very last mission before kicking someone sometimes means they still get the reward and badge, but doing it the next to last mission guarantees no badge or reward.
However, personally I don't ignore them too as I want to see if they are trying to sucker in friends of mine. I want to hear if they are broadcasting. I see that one's particular global name recruiting on the Virtue TF channel on occasion, so I warn in my SG channel when I see him (not the TF channel as then things would just turn into a his word against mine thing).
I know it wasn't just me as I've seen a few others complain about him in global channels for kicking them for no reason. Word will spread eventually I figure.
So, I joined a STF late last night. All was running smooth, didn't have any issues, no one was dying or anything. Then the Tank, who had the gun for Aeon, all of a sudden quit the TF, as soon as he agro'd Aeon to spaw clones. He never shot the gun, just flat out quit. And it wasn't a dc either. What a waste of 40 minutes, we all had to abandon, and the sad thing is, we probabley could have finished the tf without him, if it wasn't for that darn temp gun you need. Can you petition a player for this? I felt like it was done on purpose, just because nothing was spoken in team chat to warrant a person to just leave like that, not even say anything. And the person is a vet player, so it wasn't a newbie mistake or anything.
