Quote:This is the only thing in the entire post I'll take issue with MB.
Teleport - What would happen when you vanish from one spot and instantly show up somewhere else, having to displace water on your arrival? You'd probably end up having to take damage *every single time.*
We already instantly show up somewhere else and displace whatever is there. Air is less dense than water sure, but what about Tele-attacks? We're displacing living critters which in some cases are more dense.
Other than this, your post is spot on I think. -
As long as the Salkind's aren't given any sort of control over the script or the product, I don't really care who directs it.
Slo moving swoopy flying scenes are as dated as spending 15min of screentime in a shuttle looking at the Enterprise in spacedock. -

Quote:Those aren't exceptions, they are the rule. This game is most assuredly designed so the dynamic you've described is nice, but by no means the core of the game's function. Are there situations where you don't need a tank taking all the shots? Of course. But those are exceptions to the rule ((i.e. full team of blasters, half blasters half defenders.. etc etc). Even in those situations it is very nice to have somebody soaking up a majority of the damage.
Don't get me wrong I like tankers and tanking just fine. However I don't for a second feel they're obligated to be taunting all the time or they're not doing their job. No AT is designed to be a 1 trick pony, and in truth playing one as such is most definitely non optimal.
As for not playing with me, that's fine. However if you're taking this conversation, these forums, and this game so seriously as to feel we wouldn't get along, I'd suggest you're a bit overserious.
PS- Don't let too many ardent Defenders hear you tossing around "healer" like that. It gets on their nerves. There aren't any healers in this game, just some buffing powersets with heals. -
Quote:You're playing the wrong game if you have that attitude about "designated" tanks and/or defenders. This isn't WoW. Distributing or negating aggro is a perfectly valid tactic and in truth faster and more efficient. You can't get down on a Defender for generating aggro, when it means they're doing damage. In truth, you as a Tanker by your own argument don't deserve all the aggro, because at least part of the time it is more productive for the team if you do some damage.A defender could be perfectly "capable" of handling aggro but unless they are the designated tank they do not need or deserve to have aggro when they could be focusing their attentions elsewhere for far greater productivity and I'm going to fight them for that aggro whenever possible.
On a team with a defender or two that lays out bubbles or shields, or a team with some people with leadership abilities, the concept of a "designated tank" is outmoded enough to be laughable in all but a few AV encounters. -
Quote:Do you? In your response to being asked why you had the power, you pretty well got down on other people's playstyles (even going so far as to consider them of weakened intellect). You laid out your how's and why's in an open forum. I'm sorry when you can't handle someone telling you your manner was inconsiderate, and your opinions shortsighted.Do you often attack people on their playstyles then take the high road as if you aren't doing exactly what you're asking?
We were talking about making changes to a pool that was, by its original intent, meant to have general utility use for most classes. As it stands now, it has limited specialized use for only a few cases (and if you don't think the way you use it is ultra specialized, think again). It's great that you want to use it the way you do. However a lot of us would like to see a reason to take it on a few characters too.
If you're the guy who can't stand change to this pool because you like it the way it is, so be it. I'm glad you spoke up. However I'm really hoping the devs give some serious thought to shaking up the status quo on this one, because I'm pretty sure the pool isn't working for what its original design goal was.
I'm glad you have your style of play, but you should realize that this game isn't designed around that. The nature of powers, the numbers on a team, and the numbers of foes preclude the WoW-esque philosophy that a Tank should have all the aggro all the time. I hope in time you'll see that (because I see more and more encounters all the time that are specifically NOT designed for 1 tank to hold all the aggro), otherwise you're just going to get frustrated I think.
Good luck and have fun, and if you're ever on Pinnacle give me a shout, maybe we can teach each other something about different ways to play. -
Segway's Owner Segues into the Afterlife on a Segway
Best Headline ever? Maybe not, but best I've seen in a while. Death is sad, but I can't help laughing. I'm a bad lemur. -
I'm like Bill, I only allow email from Friends or SG mates, and even on the occasional character I forget to set that, I haven't gotten spam in forever.

Man, you'd hate teaming with me on my Dominator. 99% of your opinions and desires are negated by the way my powers are designed to be played.
It's cool to have opinions and stuff, but if you really have such a low opinion of the people you play with, I hope you keep them to yourself most of the time. -
Quote:Don't see the tactical "need" for that, it's just your desire. Personally when I tank, I'll stand on half with my Taunt Aura, and Taunt the other half. Works just as well. If I'm corner pulling instead, then a single taunt brings the entire group anyway even the ones I don't hit.Mainly because I can't hit entire groups with a single taunt. I taunt this half with taunt.... this half with provoke.
Quote:There's also plenty of morons out there that think it's funny to taunt off the tank so I have to grab things back constantly.
Quote:I'm one of those people when tanking I actually tank. I want everything beating my face in instead of my teammates, even the minions. It bothers me when I see tanks grab the boss and let the rest of enemy groups run wild and cause chaos.
Learn to trust your teammates when it's warranted. Not everyone who does things in a fashion not of your choosing is a moron. -
Quote:Confuses are powerful because the confuses we have (for the most part) are designed to be. High Accuracy, low recharge, High Mag, no aggro, AoE, all these are things that can make a mezz like that very strong.Confuse? No, sorry; confuses are some of the most game-changing powers in game when it comes to dealing with enemy groups. Many have 'problem targets,' and letting anyone recruit those makes things just silly. Tsoo? Sorcerers are no problem. Longbow? Nullifiers are your handy group debuffers! Sky raiders? Order me a shield, please. Malta? Sappers, point your ray gun thatta-way.
A low acc, long recharge PBAoE that generates aggro on a miss (like the Vigilante temp), or a PBAoE aura with low Magnitude (like World of Confusion), these powers are considered weak by quite a few players, and for good reason.
I see no issue whatsoever with a Power Pool power that is single target, most likely short range, and generates aggro on a miss. It seems like it could easily simulate a "look, over there!" or a fake ID kind of situation that's common in this genre. It wouldn't be overpowered at all to create a power that works, has a couple aspects you can compensate for with slotting, but still has some definite drawbacks. -
In truth, the only game I know that is legitimately single shard is EVE Online. The only others I can think of are that way because the game pop is painfully small (as in smaller than this game by nearly half)
-
Doubtful. While stealth powers most assuredly will be picked as spots to drop LotGs, the utility of a Celerity+ Superspeed or dropping one in Sprint is always going to trump the fiddlyness of the stealth pool.
-
I'm all in favor of making all the power pools work better especially now that we have more leeway in picking them.
I'm not going to comment on the order of picks or the added power you came up with MB. I personally feel Presence is beknighted beyond fixing it within the confines of the Cottage Rule.
I think when the powers in the pool have no real use other than for Set bonuses, and even fully slotted they arent as good as some temps out there, then it needs some serious looking at.
Use the powers granted to Rogues and Vigilantes as a baseline. Those seem like valid forms of mezz based on "Presence" since the powers in the pool can be slotted, start them out weaker than the temps, and have the fully slotted versions end up much better.
I know they don't want to upset people with the pool, however I think in this case they'd find very very few actively played alts that use it in any fashion. It needs help. -

In most cases, the only changes to my builds will be through addition. I may change the order of my picks, but the end result of most of them will be the same. Since most of the time my respecs are freespecs, its just a matter of using something now that will be replaced later.

No one has mentioned Stop X from escaping when he is spawned 30ft from an elevator yet.
Yup trivialized by an Immobilize, but still stupidly annoying.
I agree with the folks that say the Croatoa mission isn't that bad. Clear the first attack wave except for the toughest guy, then put a low dmg (or non dmg) mezz on autofire. -
My "fix" or memory cue to help me on the timing is to apply Fortune to someone right after I use Secondary Mutation, then repeat on the same person for the duration of the team.

Thank's for telling me what the Devs said about DP, I had missed that, and in a way it does make sense.
I do still feel the Council needs something, but am at a loss for what else it could be.
I think spicing up outdated groups is definitely the way to go. -
Random additional thought-
It would be cool to see CaD Gremlins added to a few missions in the game, along with a Boss rank Gremlin with Electric Control.
I'm a lil sorry this wen't a whole day and no one could even muster ambivalence to the idea, but I'm not gonna get worked up over it. Just gonna PM the link to Ocho and maybe he can bring it up in a meeting sometime. -
1) yes
2) yes
3) yesm
4) You can start a Hero TF, run them, and even get the badges for them. -
Elec/Shield is a fun combo, I've seen people have tons of fun with it. Easiest way to make use of it is not to even bother with the ranged component of SC and LR. Just jump into a group, let them whale on you a lil bit to top off your Fury, then pop off both Attacks at your feet.

Showcasing the new powersets by retrofitting them into old enemy groups is fantastic! I hope you continue that in the future, and I wish you had been doing it all along. In truth, I think some thought should be put into going back to other recently added powersets and filtering them into the Enemy groups as appropriate.
Not only does it make things interesting, it can serve as a good balancing factor in groups that are "broken" in one respect or another. Here are some examples:
Dual Pistols-
The Council currently gets regularly pasted by 5th column troops. I don't think adding one mob type will change that, but it could at least help. Council already has Nebula Pistol troopers, but they stop showing up around level 2 or 3. Consider revamping and replacing them with a Dual Pistol version that shows up from 1-35 or even 1-50.
Shield Defense-
The Paragon Police, Longbow, the RIP, and even Cage Security could all be well served by adding a Shield Def NPC at the Lieutenant rank.
For PPD in the 20-30 range, PPD SWAT Equalizers are a nuisance. Balance out those Glue Grenades by adding in a Mace/Shield SWAT guy. Give serious though to extending him up into the 30-50 range to help counter the heavy over-use of Peacebringer troops.
For Longbow an new Lt is sorely needed. As it stands pretty much all we see from 1-50 are Longbow Sargents then Nullifiers, and in the 41+ range, those Nullos get that Sonic grenade which can stack to 4-5 in the same area for a large team. A lot of groups I've seen can die disproportionately quickly to that unless care is taken. I think it would be interesting to add a Longbow Tanker designed to be reinforce the longbow around him with the AoE buff, and act as anti range by using a Taunt that works like player taunts, and decreases range of attacks.
Those are just 3 examples I picked from my head to remain concise. I've come up with nearly a dozen while I was writing this in my head.
I also think it would be cool to showcase new Superboosters by mixing their parts into the rest of the game. It would be neat to see Ravers in Pocket D or the Troll Raves using dance emotes from the Party Pack. Even maybe populating the basketball courts with civilians using the sport emotes, or the soccer fields with the soccer emote. Oh wait, we don't have soccer fields in Paragon. You could fix that too!
I could easily see people geeking out hardcore if you gave Ninja Run to the MM ninjas set, or Knives or Artemis or Tsoo. Or making Freakshow that used Self Destruct, or Trolls that used Secondary Mutation and occasionally turned into Monkeys.
Would it be more work? Yeah. But it would eventually add a lot of neat little bits of depth to the game, liven up stale areas, and even address a few lingering balance issues. Give it some thought.
