  1. I hope this gets added to the Downloads section sometime with a regular HTTP link. Every time I see Microsoft Media Services link I have to go fishing around for the program that lets me download them

    Cryptic coolness

    [ QUOTE ]
So why can't you make a whole set of "new" powersets? For example. WE have a fire blaster. Why not add Fire-Blue, Fire - Green, Fire - Purple, etc etc. It would be power custimization that would work with this system.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My bet is, because old players who picked the original 'Fire' blaster would whine about not being able to change their color and demand the devs allow them to switch to another of the 'Fire' powersets (which, even if the devs allowed to happen, is a powerset switch and a bug could make it switch into another powerset instead of just another color of the same powerset...)

I can see why they don't want to do it that way.

Cryptic just won a huge amount of RESPECT points from me. Great move, guys (and gals).
  4. _Brev_, I took the liberty of dumping your list into ParagonWiki. Even as a WIP is very useful.

I really, really can't remember the last time I've said : "Stop the team, we need a Blaster."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Or, "If we could only find a Controller."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Er, I can actually say I've said that recently. Trying to stop Diabolique is a PitA without decent, long-lasting immobilizes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Crey Pistol. That's what my controllerless teams use against her.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
    I don't like it.

Not because of the AT balance, that's nice.

Not because of Oranbega, I like that place.

But because the Statesman Task Force, the grand be-all-end-all of missions, is against Arachnos.

Arachnos, who, if you don't set foot in Faultline or PvP zones, and you ignore the mindless repetition of band missions, you NEVER SEE.

Personally, I thought the final fight in the STF should be against enemies you've definitley seen, and couldn't avoid, like Arachnos or Longbow on CoV. Personally, I always liked the idea of a mass jailbreak, headed by Baron Zoria and Nemesis. Fill the other points with villain group leaders everyone knows like Doc Vahz, Crey and Requiem, and you've got a solid epic fight against people who've been your enemies the whole game.

As it stands? Foes you barely know the backstory of if you didn't play CoV. And last I checked, parts of the STF were constructed to show hero-only players things only CoV got beforehand. Why spoil it by filling it with enemies that if you only play CoH you only know exist and run the Rogue Isles?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I disagree with you for a simple reason: CoV's story is a CoH spin off, comparable to, say, Star Trek DS9 to TNG, or Angel to Buffy.

If you didn't follow DS9, you still got bits and pieces of info about what was going on at Bajor, in TNG. If you didn't follow Angel, you still got a lot of references in Buffy (while they were in the same network, anyway).

A TNG movie that dealt with a mass battle with the Dominion (DS9 foes) was something a lot of fans wanted. A Buffy movie that dealt with some crisis happening in Angel would most likely also have been welcomed. Franchises like that go hand-in-hand, and there have been more complaints about a spin off being ignored than of it sending some stuff to its predecessor.

CoH + CoV are a franchise. Together, not separate. CoH doesn't have enough CoV references because it was created earlier, but it's getting there with the PVP zones and Faultline, and now, with the STF.

Can we please re-vamp the RSF to be less stupid? This is why I don't play my two 50 villains EVER. Everything is just "better" (defined to me as burst damage inclusive and easier to manage in general) on heroside than villainside.

    [/ QUOTE ]

<rp>As it freakin' should be! You want to be a no-good villain, don't expect it to be easy. Evil never prevails!</rp>

The Statesman TF looks like nine kinds of awesome (although isn't it going to break a certain story arc to have Statesy physically handing out this TF?)

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's the only other issue I have with it at this point. Depending on how it pans out on Test, I may ask that States be moved to inside the FC ship with the door unlocked by the badge. AFAIK, Recluse will only hand out his SF to a leader who has his Patron badge, so it wouldn't be dissimilar in that regard.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Agreed, make Stateman's Pal badge the requirement and make it the key to entering the ship. This way the final praetorian arc makes sense!

Paying attention, devs? This idea makes all kinds of sense, please use it.

    Drops II

    [ QUOTE ]
"Want that ultra-important drop? Well cut a hole in your chair and put a bucket under it, cause the only way you're getting it is by completing an 8 hour task force."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Uh uh, I haven't taken 8 hours to complete a Task Force in a year. And that was a Shadow Shard TF on a PUG before the teleporters to each Shard zone existed.

Let's see what TFs and SFs I have done this year:

    Moonfire - 1:59hr
    Recluse x3 - 1:06hr; 1:23hr; 1:57hr (1:28hr avg)
    Ernesto Hess x2 - 1:55hr; 1:24hr (1:39hr avg)
    Synapse - 3:36hr
    Katie Hannon x2 - 0:56hr; 0:41hr (0:48hr avg)
    Eden - 2:12hr
    Positron - 3:28hr
    Virgil Tarikoss - 1:50hr
    Silver Mantis - 2:40hr
    Ice Mistral - 1:58hr

Those are all PUGs. Yes, the RSF on PUGs takes an hour and a half average. The longest TFs in there are Positron and Synapse, which are known to take "forever", but they're nowhere near 8 hours. I haven't done any Shadow Shard TFs this year yet, but last time it took less than 4 hours as well.

Also, the TF pool requires you to do ANY TF. So, don't want to spend much time? Do Katie Hannon. A good team will have it done in half an hour.

People really need to stop spreading the myth that TFs are hideously long enterprises that only the most dedicated teams should attempt.

Disable travel powers while carrying meteorite samples.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bloody Bay is empty most of the time. So I'll just walk from meteor to meteor instead of superspeeding, big deal. What difference does that make? 30 minutes instead of 15?

I'd prefer the acquisition method be kept as-is, but the power limited to one charge.

Villainside I don't have über power builds, and getting a shivan has been the only way for me to get past EBs solo.

    Drops II

    [ QUOTE ]
My only concern about adding drops to MM/SFG completes is that, since completing them or paper/radio missions count as broker credit for everyone on the team, people would abandon Story Arcs in order to farm 8+ MM/SFG missions in a row.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not if the salvage only drops to the mission owner. Even if 8 people have the same safeguard mission and they use cooperative completion to finish it, they all get only one drop.

I'd still rather have Pools A, C, and D and make Pool B (Story Arcs) contain a nice subset of some of what can be obtained in both Pools C and D. That way the reusable content (A C and D) contains everything one could possibly want, while Story Arcs get you valuable things via soloing that you could otherwise only get via teaming (C and D).

    [/ QUOTE ]
    I like that idea.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [ QUOTE ]
If we can't go back and do our story arcs, and there's no way we can sway you from granting reciepes off them, then why can't we just award a reciepes to the whole team, when a story arc is completed?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Minor concerns.

I can see someone playing most of the arc with a specific team, and then refusing to do the last mission because they're saving it to the SG, which would cause friction with the team who helped with the rest of the arc.

It doesn't help any to someone who likes to solo.

And at level 50 we still have a very limited number of long story arcs. How many times do you get on a team to complete Tyrant? Or Crimson's arc? Or the carnie AV? Me, not often, really.

Now, something good: this might be the incentive all those PL'd 50s need to actually start DOING their arcs. A lot of people get into PI and do nothing but get in farms.

    It's not a difficult problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Much as I'd love the Flashback system to be introduced, two of my characters have done EVERY single story arc in the game. The only one they're missing is new Faultline because it was introduced a loooong time after they hit 50. So the Flashback system wouldn't help much to those who already collected every souvenir.

That said, please, I _do_ want the Flashback system. If only to complete the dozens of non-story arc missions I outlevelled on the way.

Here is one that I believe is completely untrue, but I have to bring it to someone's attention. I asked my wife today 02/15/07 to get me a new time card at our local EB Games, well they informed her that there don't have any and can't get any as they are not being made anymore. I know that it isn't true, but just wanted to let you know.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Get a COV card, or a Lineage II card, or an Auto Assault card. Any of them work.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
I suspect it has something to do with the fact that damage numbers were designed around a particular "metric" of number of attacks necessary to defeat a minion, and were scaled from there. That might have left a statistical "footprint" in how damage interacts with targets' health bars: how much "wastage" damage is done to a target (the amount of damage over and above necessary to defeat the target, and subsequently the likelyhood that one less attack might leave the target with a small sliver of health) might not be remotely random at all.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I haven't read the entire thread yet, so sorry if this was already suggested: can the "sliver of health" thing be ED's fault?

Let's say you had a minion that you could kill with exactly six hits (say, 600HP, with the hit doing 100HP damage). Pre-ED, slotting for 6x damage would have killed it in two hits (two 300HP+ hits with green SOs). After-ED, 3x +3 SOs are only a 97.2% boost, so three hits take 591HP -- leaving the target with 9HP, a "sliver of health".

My favorite bit when the politicians call videogames "murder simulators" and "they're teaching out children to use guns" is the fact that they're totally overlooking that clicking a mouse, or moving a analog stick with your thumb and hitting the x button is probably the furthest thing in the world from firing a gun.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which is precisely why I just posted this video response. It's short and I'm not going to get an Oscar for it, but I thought this was way too much [censored] to let it pass by.
  21. Zombie_Man, I quoted your post in the Talk page for Penelope in ParagonWiki, not sure how it'd fit in the article but I thought it should be somewhere. Hope you don't mind.

Are you guys missing the parts where Abe shreds his friends to meaty chunks in meat grinders?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No, we're not.

    1) It's a 2D game in classic platform POV.
    2) No blood whatsoever anywhere.
    3) All the violence in there is quite cartoony.

So, Abe is as likely to cause a kid to kill someone as Tom and Jerry is.

Edit: also, grinding your friends into meaty chunks is NOT the goal of the game. You AVOID doing that at all costs. When it happens, in the in-game world is obviously an accident caused by Abe's stupidity, not something to be rewarded for.

Following post from a friend who doesn't have forum access:

    [ QUOTE ]
i have played violent videogames since they've had violent videogames, and i haven't killed anyone. i take my violence out in the videogame

you know what they need to say? "parents, [censored] teach your kids the difference between real and make believe. oh, and while you're at it, have a [censored] conversation with them. while they're talking to you they're not hurting anyone. and make them go outside and play too."

i stand where i stand on the issue though. it's the parents fault, not videogames
they said about nine year olds playing gta. um...nine year olds shouldn't be playing gta. they can't even legally buy it.

i played mortal kombat when i was nine but if i so much as looked at my brother wrong after i couldn't play it anymore.

like i said, it's the parents, not the games
we had the original three grand theft autos, and the expansion pack for the first one. when my mom bought it she got warned, but she told the guy, "i have good kids and i trust them."

i was seventeen at the time anyway. i could have bought it
once we were teenagers my parents trusted us with our videogames. my mom played videogames with us until i was thirteen. and we weren't allowed to play videogames unless mom or dad were around and awake.

my point is that you can blame the videogame until you're blue in the face, it's not the game's fault if the parent is going to let their nine year old play a violent videogame and not explain to them that it's different than real life.

As for the image of Statesman, it would be interesting to see how people would react if another super hero, not from video games, was placed in his spot in the trailer. The two heroes who leap to mind are Superman, whose battle cry used to be for "Truth, Justice and the American Way", and Captain America.

If either of those more famous fictional figures had been used, the general public would think: "Wait a minute, Superman and Captain America are... bad?"

    [/ QUOTE ]

QFE. Note how none of the games shown are based on very known intellectual properties... they want to show something that people are not really familiar with, because it's easier to draw idiots in that way.
  25. Leandro

    "Moral Combat"

I haven't even finished watching the trailer and I saw something incredibly absurd. They show, 51 seconds in, Abe from Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee getting "electrocuted". That is from a cutscene of a 1997 PlayStation game that is a very "mild" game. It has as much violence as friggin' Super Mario! You don't even have a weapon in that game! And it's being labelled as a violent game on the line of GTA:SA? What a load of bull.
