  1. I have an Empath I rarely use these days. She is at about level 17 or 18 if I recall.

She is already in an SG so would not be looking to join another but I would probably be up for helping out in some of the earlier zones like Hollows, Skyway, Perez etc. I would probably be ok in Talos or IP as well if I am cautious.

I was never in the "taxis" but I have been known to hang around Hollows gates with my D3 offering TP back for those on far side of the Gulch. I also offer a res if they had a really bad trip down the rabbit hole.

It's amazing how much of a good feeling this sort of thing can give ya.

I have been told that as I get into higher levels it will become harder to solo well with her but so far its pretty darn good.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You've been mis-informed then. At 42 my D3 is quite capable of soloing on invincible. This week he's managed to solo the single spawned Envoy of Shadows arch-villain with the help of a warwolf.

In teams he feels godlike, stopping whole spawns (as long as they're not Nemesis) in their tracks, upping the teams damage output considerably and reducing bosses and Arch-villains to annoyances rather than dangers.

However as lots of his opening moves are AoE based (tar-patch, fearsome stare, darkest night), if he gets it wrong, it goes wrong with style.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Luudo, your news is good news mate! Although my D3 is on hold while I level up my main (I finally controlled my Altitis!) its gonne be my next focus to get her going again.

I know what you mean about feeling "godlike" and thats just at level 18. Also, I tend to open with the AoE stuff as well and then whittle away with the blasts. From your post it sounds like a sound tactic to stick with

By the time the AoEs wear off then the mobs could not hit a barn door if you swung it at them!
If by any chance any of them CAN still see straight of course, you can just wapp the AoEs back out again as they will have recharged by then.

I am also sooooo looking forwrd to gewtting the pets
  3. I stand corrected by FireKitty

I can only guess it must be a very popular attack in the MA set then as I have lost count of the number of times I have been pummelling a mob with my DM/DA Scrapper only to have a MA scrapper come along to assist and knock the mob totally out of my reach.

Mind you, Scrapper Lock being what it is, it could have been anything from a Squiddie to an NRG Blaster to someone with Explosive Arrows causing the knockback the MA folks get the blame as they are closest target.

The probable line of thought would be:
    "My bad guys has gone!"
    "You hit him last!"
    "It must be your fault!"
"How do I petition for griefing again?"
  4. I have a Dark/Dark Defender named Shadow Scout. I have taken her as far as level 18 and she is currently on hold there while I am leveling my main.

I have to say that so far I have found her great for solo work. The accuracy debuffs she puts out are really effective and becuase much of this comes from the "attacks" of the Dark Blast set you still feel quite "offenderish".

It also has some great control type powers in Tar Patch and Tenebrous Tentacles and even has pets tho I have not accessed them yet and I don't know how effective they are.

I have been told that as I get into higher levels it will become harder to solo well with her but so far its pretty darn good.
  5. I have not played a MA scrapper but I do have a DM/DA scrapper at level 27.

From what I have seen most of the MA attacks are kicks that cause a fair bit of knockback. Given that much of the strengths of DA come from its Aura powers (which need to keep the mobs close by) I really can't see how MA and DA would work well together.

I have no doubt that it could be made to work and I suspect this note may get some responses from players who HAVE made it work but I am betting its a real challenge!
  6. I am probably a bit more guilty than most of making life hard for Tankers on those occasions where I do team.

I am something of an altoholic although I have managed to focus more on one toon lately. Because I have played pretty all of the hero ATs (bar the Kheldians) up to about level 20 I like to think I have at least a small idea of what tactics help and or hinder each of them. I realise that the different sets within the ATs make a huge difference but in general terms, like I say, I have at least some idea of the major dos and donts. The big exception to this rule is the Tanker.

I have a tried to get to grips with this AT on a number of occasions and I just can't get my head around it. Because of this I have no clear idea of what sort of things I should be doing or avoiding when I team with tankers using one of my other characters. this more than any other factor i thnk means that tankers and I often have "issues".
  7. [ QUOTE ]
It is much easier to have to support one person as an empath than the whole team. You cant fort every one and you cant give everyone Absorb pain at the same time, you cant use heal other on every one at once and heal aura isnt that good as its not a great heal versus undebuffed high burst damage.

If i am not having to run around after every headless chicken then i have time for other things like blasts or buffs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ironically I feel exactly the opposite when i am playing my (admittedly low level at 17) Empath. I love the frenetic chaos of watching the teams health bars and trying to keep track of where everyone is on the map so I can leap over and apply the heals where they are most tneeded.

My idea of team hell for my Empath is as follows:

Everthing in one neat place, me healing the Tanker who keeps the aggro so now one else ever needs the heals. Chucking out the occasional psi attack just to relive the boredom as its not really needed since the team are doing all the killing required.

Efficient? probably. Safe? probably. Bloody tedious? Absolutely!

    DM/DA Build

I have a DM/DA Scrapper at level 28. I have not played it in a good while as I am focussing on another alt and can't recall my exact build details. I am not at home right now to check them either

I have to say that I have read many posts about how the sets cause major endurance problems but from my own experience I cant say I have found this to be true.

I have not taken Cloak of Fear so far as I find Touch of fear holds the bosses long enough for me to clear the minions and then I can go to town on the big bad boss. (I tend to play solo by the way). I guess you need to pick your toggles for each fight instead of trying to run everything at once.

The one thing I have found hard is the lack of Knockback protection. The leaping pool and Acrobatics is best solution to this but does eat up 3 power picks. Alternatively you can take Hover and then flight as your travel pool powers giving some KB protection on only 2 pool picks.

Re using Leadership pool for Invoke Panic, that strikes me as being kinda redundant when you have two powers in your main that already give all the fear control you are ever likely to need. Drop the whole pool, use one of the picks you free up to take Cloak of Fear if you want to be mister scary guy and you still have two power picks free for other yummy scrapper goodness.

And on the other side.. the blaster set that blast worst of em all, i nominate nrg/ice (or any nrg/..).

    [/ QUOTE ]

    *thwap* Energy blast ftw =P

On the subject of odd builds for blasters though, have a go at Sonic/Ice or Energy/Fire. For fun though, elec/fire blaster, you get to make bzzzt noises AND cook things!

So what your saying is that the character customisation system in CoH is soooo awsome you even get the option to play as a Microwave Oven!
  10. I was gutted that RL prevented me from making it to last weeks TF but I think I should be fine for this Saturday and would love to join you..

I have Lady Leprechaun (Illusion/Storm 'troller) at 30
Demon of Darkness (Dark/Dark Scrapper) at 26
    or
I have Shadow Scout, (Dark/Dark Defender) I could get to level 20 by Saturday.

Let me know which is likely to be most useful.

    Demon of Darkness
  11. Re the Little debate between Cobra MAn, Archy and Imaginary.

I think I probably COULD get by in PVE without Confuse so points there to Archy and Imaginary BUT why on earth would I want to because as Cobra Man pointed out it just makes things more of a challenge than they need to be.

Re Imaginary's comment about buffing Sky Raider FF generators being pointless coz they are dead 5 seconds later. They are when you are in a GOOD team and if thats the case, your ability to get by without deceive is due in no small way to the effectiveness of others as much as yourself. I tip my hat to your team .

If you are in a bad PuG or solo then the FF generators may well be around a bit longer. That being the case surely its better to have 'em working for you rather than the badguys coz that just makes an already overlong battle even longer again!
  12. Dante,

I have had much the same problem. My first ever toon was/is a Dark/Dark Scrapper and like you I chose my travel power very carefully for concept rreasons.

Originally he had the TP set but I suffered so badly at the hands of the Council and their fracking grenades that I had to give in and get a different power for some knockback protection.

The leaping set probably does give by far the best protection but there was no way I could reconcile it with the character and so I settled on the flight pool as a just about acceptable compromise.

To answer your question, I am not aware of any alternatives at this time but I am hoping that the inventions system coming on line in I9 will change that. Possibly we may be able to creat a single item that gives Knockback protection or failing that, we will be able to collect a "set" of IO enhancements that will give knockback protection as one of its bonuses.

    I live in hope
  13. I have never played Kinetics so can't really comment but I have a Dark/Dark Defender I have taken to level 18. She is currently on hold tho while I focus on my main.

As some folks have indicated the effects of Dark/Dark are not that visible on screen so you will not get nearly the level of recognition in teams that other Defenders get. You may even get criticised for "blasting too much" coz they don't realise that as well as your damage you are dubuffing the target thru the floor.

When you play a "support" AT and find you can solo red mobs and barely take a hit you REALLY get an idea of how godlike this set can make you feel (and remember I am only level 18!) and I just love being the "quiet" hero in the team and knowing that my powers kept the team going even if they don't.
  14. Everyone has pretty much highlighted the good points and I will not cover the same ground but I would like to echo the post about the worst possible use of the power.

Do not ask the team to hang around while you try to deceive, one by one, half the spawn, there really are few things in game more annoying.
  15. What you have actually done from the sound of that is trained your mate to be your own personal Buff puppy.

"You fire off the healy buffy things on me then go stand way over there while I go fight the bad guys and actually achieve something"

Lord above, how the hell does your gimp, sorry your mate get any enjoyment out of playing an Empath?
  16. OOPS!

Yeah Lady Leprechaun is Illusion/Storm and my oops for forgetting that the power picks dont come every even level at that point.

I am still in two minds over this whole idea to be honest. I do enough chaos as it is so I am not sure I really need to add Thunderclap to the mix. Also, I have Dark Pit on my D3 and to be honest I don't like the "control" that disorient brings. Having said that, Recall Friend also seems more like a Defender choice to me than a Controller (TP fallen, Rez, rinse and repeat). Like I said in OP it will be useful for ghosting some missions but is that really enough of an excuse to take it? For instance, can I use it on my Pets if I needed to to maybe reposition them or something?

For that matter is Thuderclap really that bad? Does anyone on here have anything to say in it's favour?
  17. Hi folks, I am after some opinions/advice on this issue please. I was reviewing my planned build for Lady Leprechaun over the weekend and got to wondering about my power pick for when I get to 34.

At the moment I am planning Thunderclap but to be honest it does not seem to be rated that much from what I can see on the forums. It also strikes me that it is just going to be adding even more "controlled chaos" than I already deliver.
This being the case I am thinking about taking instead recal friend from the teleport pool.

My reasons for this are: It will work well with the Superior Invisibility I already have to allow teams to "ghost" certain awkward missions like the Cavern of Transendence. It is a handy helpful power to have when teaming anyway (pull any in trouble squishies into my Hurricane). Unlike Thunderclap, it will need no slots beyond the default allowing more slots for other powers.

    Thoughts?
  18. I just want to post up a thank you to all those friendly forumites I teamed with on the double XP weekend and helped me achieve my target of getting Lady Leprechaun to level 30.

Also, thanks to some great advice on the forums about handling my altitis and the fun I had over the weekend I have completely refound my love for this game and am NOT now taking my plnned leave of absence.

Thanks again all, see you in Paragon!
  19. Tankers:
"All TANKed up and no place to go"
    "Tank=Top"
    "Tankers do it in herds"

    Scrappers:
    "Are you Telling to me!?"
"Scrappers do it up close and personal"
    "Scrapper lock and load"
    "What does "wait" mean?"
"Out of sight? Are you out of your mind?"

I am still working on some others ATs
  20. You coould do a variant on the title of an old motown hit.
Instead of "Sisters are doing it for themselves" change it to "Blasters keep dieing when by themselves" or sommat like that.

Instead of "He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day" you could have all sorts of options for example

"The Blaster who fights and runs away.......
    does not understand the Archetype!"
should be kicked from the team without delay".
probably "pulled" with Rain of Fire".

Possibly: "Get your coats.... I've pulled"

Finally: "Some heroes leave their handprints in the sidewalk, Blasters leave face prints".
  21. BigMike, I find mine does "OK" with the one accuracy, it DEFINITELY needs at least that. On my planner I was thinking about an increased KB later on (level 40ish)but will probably switch that to a second accuracy until then tho I am happy to live with the one. As I said in my earlier post, I think its certainly a power to keep around.

In response to Shannon, earlier on in my CoX gameing career I will admit to being guilty of indiscrimintae use of Gale and Hurricane in some SERIOUSLY annoying (for Tankers and Scrappers anyway ) ways. Fortunately I have now started on the path to greater understanding and try to practice the 3C Method.
  22. Mine was similar to Hallows Eve. I think my Dark/Dark scrapper was around level 12, we were in Frostfire mission and we basically managed to aggro almost the entire room and most of em were red con to me.

The team started going down and very shortly it was just me and our empath defender. Everyone was screaming for us to run. I told the empath to run ( she had rez) while I tried to hold em off as long as I could. Well instead of that she kept healing me, I kept the aggro and they just kept on coming. It took something like 5 minutes for the 2 of us to clear that crowd and by the end, the shouts of "Run" had changed to "Let em have it!" and "Go on guys, take him out!"

Edge of the seat stuff and great fun!
  23. In response to the post about "remove Gale from your tray" I would put forward a different point of view. Lady Leprechaun is an Illusion/Storm Controller currently at level 24. When I was in the first 5 or 6 levels I found Gale was quite useful as a defence tactic even tho its accuracy (or lack of!) bugged me. As I got higher I began to use it less and less, mainly because of its poor hit rate but also because other, better control powers were available. Strangely tho, now I am level 24 and I have Hurricane, I am finding it more and more useful again.

To appreciate Gale, you need to learn thats it's more than just a "panic button". Its great for blowing mobs closer to corners where they can then be easily held in place by the Hurricane. If you have fly then its great for doing knockdown instead of knockback and helping to keep mobs in AOE zones.
  24. Ok, in general I have no issues with defiance and am neither pro or con to the idea in the OP. Having said that, I can think of 2 possible problems that might arise from it.

The 1st problem is a bias in favour of Energy Blasters. The NRG blaster gets in real close to the target, blasts the mob for maximum damage and then, the knockback means they are safe(er) from retaliation should the mob survive.
A fire blaster (or pretty much any other) trying the same thing would most likely get swatted very hard.

The other is a weakening of the AT concept should the idea be implemented. If it did come in, the most obvious tactic would be to use a hold or immob on the target mob first, get in close for the damage bonus, then blast it. In this case you might just as well solo a Controller or play a Dominator in CoV.
  25. Howdy Doody FG.

Although I said I was taking a break I am aiming to come back for the duration of the double XP weekend and get Lady Leprechaun up as high as I can.

I cannot promise to be available for the whole weekend as its my Birthday on the Saturday but would love to join you for as much as I can. LL is currently at level 24 and itching to do the 1st respec!

Since you are not likely to see me in game can you send me a PM to let me know if I am in?

    Cheers bucko
