    I'm BACK baby!!!

Tanks mang, strictly here as a player right now... working on a private project... so no time for commissions, except the nine I owe... so Gray I have not forgotten you. Anyway if all goes well, I may do some freebies on an if I feel like itbasis... but don't hold me to it. Still it's good to be home. I was playing with those whiny STO babies, yeesh... I loves me some Star Trek, but I hate me some crackheads...

Someone remind me where this forum is playing right now, still on Virtue?

    I'm BACK baby!!!

And off to make my dual pistol toon!
  3. I think the first version looks like a cartoon cell, while BW's looks like a black and white cartoon from the 50s... it's a nice retro feel, would be great for a retro theme toon.
  4. Yer not allowed to age, you have to keep drawing in my life time... selfish!
  5. I already said HB 4 days ago. Yes I'm still grouchy... hope you had a nice day. Make Baron do some laundry. Just kidding...
  6. How is that a poem? Because it's written in stanzas? It's not poetic to talk in normal language and pretend it's prose. I don't mean to be rude, but that reads more like a prayer... yes I got up on the wrong side of the bed today. And another thing, her birthday is 4 days away... whoa, I am on a roll. Let me try again...

    It's not poetic to talk
    in normal language
    and pretend it's prose.

I don't mean to be rude,
    but that reads more
    like a prayer...

    yes I got up
    on the wrong side
    of the bed today.

    And another thing,

    --------------------

Okay seriously. Happy 31 and GK, I'm sorry I really like good poetry, and I really don't like bad poetry. Or bad prose masquerading as poetry. Or rhyming in poetry. Or laundry lists trying to be poetry. Poetry is about the beauty of language, not about wishing someone Happy Birthday... it can be, but it often fails to be. Thoughts on a Friendship, could be about your dog, what makes anything you say there reveal that it's Envee you're speaking about. Think about it. In the words of Daffy Duck, "Try it again you darn bunny!!!" No offense intended.

Also - I insist anyone who responds to me negatively, do so in Iambic Pentameter...
  7. Shouldn't it be gold and blue like it's Egyptian nature... and hey that last tat had red, now you have to go to Carousel... RENEW! RENEW!! RENEW!!!
  8. Sorry for the incomplete and the lateness Mr. TP, I promise I'll have it finished by tomorrow... anyway, here are the screen caps for my coloring tute. I will explain each step tomorrow in depth, it's a lot to write up, I may do it later tonight, after my D&D game, depends on how tired I am... but there it is, hope the screens sort of make sense. Be back later...

  9. Ah, well it is close to 3am here, however tomorrow, I will write you a much easier tute for doing the coloring. Your line art, is that done with the pen tool? It is very clean. The base grey tone for the entire figure is fine, however making a layer for each individual piece or shape is a tremendous waste of time. You should make layers based on color, which in this case equals 4, grey, red, green, white. You already made layers for highlights and shadows, you can actually combine those on one layer. As for the pilling on your line art, that comes from enlarging a reduced original version, and possibly having your anti-alias box unchecked on the top bar by your selection tool...

As to achieving a more cohesive cell shaded look, I will include into your tutorial how to use the gradient brush, it will save you hours of heart ache. I use to use it extensively, but I out grew the look because I wanted a more painterly feel. However it can be used in combination with cell shading to downsize your time.

Lastly your shadow and light use has an oversimplified animation look to it, the harsh edged shadows. While that is fine, they're not convincing cause they're not following the form enough. Particularly on the area behind the head on the "ear" of the helmet, that long shadow is cast for the hell of it, nothing could create that unless it was in front of him, and if so why does it only hit that area? You need more consistency...

OKay so will see you tomorrow for sure.

PS: can you also upload the original rikti reference, as to help with the final coloring.

    new Tiger White

Technically I used a white tiger as reference for them, but it's not my Toon, so I don't know the story. I would speculate that the white tiger is her spirit animal, or maybe the toon can turn into one... but the first version had the heads side by side, and this one was the way I saw it, when the idea of including the tiger was brought up to me.

    Thanks everyone for the kindness.
  11. What exactly are you trying to achieve? A certain final look? A Style? Are you unhappy with the basic cell shading you've achieved here? Could you provide the a sample of the 2nd and 3rd stage for download, as to allow us to play around with some coloring tutes? My opinion is that the latest version has a few harsh edges, no soft separation, also, your black line has some piling going on... you know those little circles of fabric from a frayed worn out sweater washed one too many times. How large is this file?
  12. NO RL woman, without considerable compensation would do the things we make our toons do. Switch costumes at the blink of an eye, allow us to watch them fly as we photograph them from being upside down, compete against other females for "currency" based on what we're wearing, suddenly after a long hard day go shopping for "enhancements", and of course slide the boob enlarger once a month... all just to fight crime. That's asking a bit much...

LJ doesn't wear a cape, but she's also not about to flash all of Paragon, a sensible costume is a must. Plus I am 8ft tall, I have a thing for tall women...
  13. I would wish that all your wishes come true, having the love of my life, a house, a fulfilling yet underpaid job, a great son, (sorry GD he just found a nice guy) and the fattest cat in all of creation... may everyone's New Year be filled with hope. I am looking forward to the new decade, 2010 has a great ring to it...

Here's to better art, more art, and my FART crown, oh yeah I said it!

    Peace out...
  14. "Me big strong man, me rescue you, me stop bullets, me kick all your assess..."

    NOT!!! Boring...

"Hello boys, it's Judgement time, the verdict is in - PAIN !"

And oh yeah, she is sexy...

latest version for my client... hope everyone has a happy new year, see you then...

  16. Off the top of my head, I would think Graver could pull this off for you more easily, as could John Becaro with some prodding on making it more of a digital painting and less of a colored ink. You seem to only want the black in the hair and maybe the eyes, from what I can tell of your example. I could do this too but I won't as I prefer to work in my own style... good luck to you.

(Both Graver and John Becaro are on Deviant Art and in Thor's Assassin's Network thread)
  17. I'm listening to "The Sound of Music" ,it can't get any weirder than that...

    Merry Christmas!

Mele Kalikimaka from Canada to Paragon City and the Rogue Isles... now if only they would put an axe to Champions Online, and transfer my life sub over here. Does anyone have faith in DCUO? I am NOT liking the animations... can't wait for Going Rogue to revamp our looks, looking forward to returning then... Jan. 15th will be my last day till GR... sniffle sniffle...

May you all find Purple drops in your stockings... or a nice SO.
  19. One of the most awesome threads of the year, CR you're a true artist! Congrats Pyro, time to work on the Altitis... Enjoy the day everyone!
  20. HA! thanks, I am honored he likes them... and no, it took about 5 minutes, but I was lassoing like crazy.
  21. Not bad, I particularly like the last 2 costume designs, if I may... he might want to invest at looking at some Weapon reference, sites that make actual weapons for sale. My buddy who is an avid collector, has found some amazing craftsmanship and design on his search for the next sword, knife, etc... Since PS Jr like his ninjas, you may want to view some oriental sites to get that feel of authenticity. He can "sponge" up the images in his head, and keep designing. I think you will find his work improves with some history added in...

Also I adjusted his last update using Levels, go there for details.
  22. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...cancleaner.jpg

    1) image > mode > grayscale
    2) image > mode > RGB
    3) image > adjustments > levels
    4) slide white arrow in levels to the left
    5) slide black arrow in levels to the right
    6) slide grey arrow in levels towards the white arrow

4, 5, 6 takes tweaking... you don't want a dark dark black this way, just almost black.

    7) using lasso tool, zoom in and select "spots" when you have all the spots large and small, odd shaped areas and corners etc, press Command + X, this will fill erase everything you've lassoed.

    8) unlock layer, drag file into new file icon in the layers panel, near the trash can. this will duplicate what you have, set that to multiply and play with the opacity slider to make that black you want. This creates a softer black as suppose to the jagged edge black you would make by sliding the black arrow too far in Levels.

    9) Flatten layers, save.

I lassoed a lot here to make it look uniform, you can see things I changed by the sword guard on the right figure, and by the neck on the left figure. Also this method makes a softer image closer to the pencil, check out the eyes, they're not black sockets like your version.
  23. Yeah that's a great deal, we got one once for $25 cause it was a discontinued model and a floor model to boot, also had a friend working there. I actually gave it away to a friend I had met during a lecture (from the wife's stock art site), only because he expressed a great interest in one, and was a very nice person... so I chalked it up to art karma.

You will find the learning curve disappears within a year if you apply yourself. I still use my mouse in conjunction, because I find using one to right click isn't very intuitive. Best improvement is the speed factor of using the pen! Enjoy them guys...

  25. I use to belong to a spec fiction site that posted "flash" stories written in an hour, after the admin would post a "topic". Members would then post their work, and critique each others... I applied that idea to an art website in 2001, and I am proud to say even after I left, the idea carries on as part of the site's history. Met my wife this way actually

Which goes to show, artist's love to create, be it written, drawn, sung, acted... While most of us know our own characters too well to let someone else write about them, I think you could get anyone to make costume designs to inspire you. Might even be fun to switch up and write the Villain side of it.

I have a pimp Mastermind, but alas he is stuck with thugs, as there are no female pets to be had... I mean used... I mean played with... okay I give up.
