Hmmm, let's see if I can whip something up as a gift.
A little poem for one of my dearest freinds
Thoughts on a Freindship
When I came to you in tears, you wiped them away.
When I came to you in joy, you were merry with me.
When I came for advice, you gave it without question
No matter how I came to you, you welcomed me.
Now as life continues I bring you a smile to brighten your day
To thank you for kindness, I give a promise, a wish, and a request.
Each is the best I can give to you
For my words are greater than all riches
The promise is to always be your freind
Companion in good times, Confidant in hard times.
Always there with an ear to listen
Always there to join in the fun.
The wish is for happiness to you and your family
Never to face terrible hardships
To always be safe from physical and mental harm
To have many more fulfilling years.
The request is that you stay kind and caring
Always continue to assert your mind
Never succumb to malice and cruelty
May you continue to be a true and virtuous person
Happy birthday EnnVee and best wishes to you.

How is that a poem? Because it's written in stanzas? It's not poetic to talk in normal language and pretend it's prose. I don't mean to be rude, but that reads more like a prayer... yes I got up on the wrong side of the bed today. And another thing, her birthday is 4 days away... whoa, I am on a roll. Let me try again...

Okay seriously. Happy 31 and GK, I'm sorry I really like good poetry, and I really don't like bad poetry. Or bad prose masquerading as poetry. Or rhyming in poetry. Or laundry lists trying to be poetry. Poetry is about the beauty of language, not about wishing someone Happy Birthday... it can be, but it often fails to be. Thoughts on a Friendship, could be about your dog, what makes anything you say there reveal that it's Envee you're speaking about. Think about it. In the words of Daffy Duck, "Try it again you darn bunny!!!" No offense intended.
Also - I insist anyone who responds to me negatively, do so in Iambic Pentameter...
I once took a creative writing course where we had to submit five short stories or poems per week. One week, at four pieces and zero enthusiasm, I cast around for inspiration. I took my shampoo bottle, copied the contents, and titled it "Modern Alchemy".
The instructor said it was a great piece. It actually did sound kind of poetic to read, starting with long and complicated chemical names and eventually winding down into things such as witch hazel and some flower oil.

I didn't have the heart to say anything discouraging when I know the
sentiment behind the words is good but well dang now that it's out there...
yeah it's not poetry... but it is still nice (the thought that counts and all that).
Well the poetry of "five feet" was never my strongsuit but if you insist LJ...
