Okay so I was going through his sketch book and decided to scan some things now that we have an "OK" scanner. Also it was cool to see the progression from then til now.

Some costume designs from about 1-2 months ago:

These are not the greatest scans so bare with me. Also i resurrected the original "Talents of PowerStream Jr" thread and added his revised image there.

Feel free to comment just remember a 12 year old (yep he turned 12 on November 3rd! - Geez I'm getting old.) is reading them.

Not bad, I particularly like the last 2 costume designs, if I may... he might want to invest at looking at some Weapon reference, sites that make actual weapons for sale. My buddy who is an avid collector, has found some amazing craftsmanship and design on his search for the next sword, knife, etc... Since PS Jr like his ninjas, you may want to view some oriental sites to get that feel of authenticity. He can "sponge" up the images in his head, and keep designing. I think you will find his work improves with some history added in...

Also I adjusted his last update using Levels, go there for details.

These are a couple of his latest drawings. Sorry about the scans but he wanted to do it himself.

Those look great, JR!! The one suggestion I would make is to sketch the image out very lightly until you have the image looking the way you want it. Then do your darker lining and shading. Oh, and one more thing, to prevent smearing the image, drape a piece of tissue across the section where your drawing hand will be resting, and don't drag the tissue across the image as you draw. Pick it up and relay it as you move your hand around the paper. That will help to minimize the smudging.

Keep up the terrific work!!

Jr. says those are great tops and he is going to try them out! Thank you VexXxa!

Also, dear old dad decided to try out GIMP and see if I could clean the lines up and take a cruddy shot at making some lines.... These are green but I also have them in black... I also saved them as a transparency layer so I can play with colors later. I'm so used to Photoshop at work that GIMP was kind of a pain to get used to but this took me about an hour and a half...

Yes I took that original image above and made these so that's why the lines are nice and crisp. Anyone feel free to tell me what I could do to make them cleaner.

LOL If you saw him you'd never believe me! He is 12, 13 in 3 months. He's the tallest kid on his football team at about 5' 8". It's crazy! I'm a big guy but I am sure he is going to be taller than me.

Thanks for the kind words Crestent. One of the things I have been pushing him to work on is trying to get a little more movement into his drawings. Previously he's done a lot of straight on images and they have been great but started to all look the same. So this was a big change for him and I think he did a good job. But of course I'm a doting father.

So I finally found my copy of Photoshop (YAY even though it's only CS3) and woke up early and decided to see what I could do. So here are some "colors" I laid down on Jr.'s reptile dude. I did these so feel free to critique all ya want. I know one thing is I don't really have a light source so I have no shadows and highlights really. I need to practice alot with that.

It's been a while since I've updated this and Jr. has been at me to post up some of his new items. Since we were home again due to bad weather I took the time to scan a couple pieces. I wish I could scan better so if anyone has some tips and pointers please feel free to add them here or point me in a direction.

First up is a comic book cover he is working on using some COH inspired toonsL

Next up is his version of PowerStream.I like it a lot.

Thanks CR! That was one thing I noticed was the shading alot on this one and the scans don't really do it justice. He had a bit of a problem with proportions on these two. I'm sure if you look closely you can tell we did some adjustments to the legs on all of the characters using PhotoShop. They were a bit small and the waists are a bit long. But again I think he did a great job.

He still prefers pencil to the tablet but I'm trying to encourage him to use the tablet more. If anyone has some good tutorials for him I'm sure he'd love to read over them.

He's now 13 and just an inch an a half shorter than me, so if I don't say nice things he will push me around... j/k

Powerstream Jr. is talented! I didn't start drawing until I was in high school and I wasn't this good then!

Thanks Znrgy! I really hope he keeps up with his drawing. I drew a lot when I was a kid and created a lot of the backgrounds for our school plays in Elementary school but really dropped it when I got my first Nintendo (darn video games ruin EVERYTHING!). Now I couldn't draw a stick figure to save my life. I'm sure all the encouragement he gets at home and now on these forums is keeping him interested.

PS! Your son's talents are really starting to take shape! I enjoy seeing how he has improved with each piece you post. Give him a kudos from me!

Will do! thanks VexXxa! We need to set him up a forum account so he can post things himself now that I think he's old enough.

Your son with his own personal art thread would be awesome!
