Excuses, excuses. Don't make me cry! I will!

If you've spent any money at all, I believe you are able to join an SG.

You can build complex robots, but you can't even forward a message? C'mon, it's not like programming a VCR! You hit the little button that says 'Forward' in the bottom right of the message!

It's Saturday, but what time on Saturday?

I loved that little story; hopefully someone else out there does too. >_> No PMs or anything yet... -sigh-

Barbarian Ring is an option on females, for sure.
That's an awesome use of Bane Spider so I really, really hope you guys let Melody into this SG. We could be the most awesomely strange group of Magical Girls ever. -
Illusion, eh? What other secondaries go well with it? I've had a /rad, that was a very offensive secondary as I recall. More interested on buffs than debuffs.
Conceptually, I think I kinda want to make a gentle, simple giant character, if anyone wants to throw that into their considerations. And wow, I'm getting a lot of offense suggestions. Do people hate the defensive sets that much? -
Personally, I think it adds an interesting potential angle there, similar to the revelation that Firestorm was a failed fire elemental that was destined to be, until science came in and altered (but did not ultimately prevent) the destiny. Your choice though, doubt I'll make a second magical girl.
-
Quote:So a while ago (Around the time the Science Pack came out and I could make drastic changes to a characters body type.) I created a magical girl that at the time was just sort of a test of the capabilities of the costume creator and if I could accurately make a male character that transforms into a female character look similar in appearance. As time has gone on and with the 'secret leak' of the staff set that is coming soon I've decided that its about time I flesh out the Magical Girl concept a little more. So I've taken a look at my character Cute Saint Dominique in a more critiquing light and I think I've come up with a good sort of back story not just to the character, but to the 'Magical Girls of Paragon' sort of ideal.
So first off I guess a little about the character himself, and sort of why he would fit into the Magical Girl theme. In general Dominique is sort of a wimp of a character, before his mother died she was the one to name him Dominique which subsequently made him the target of childhood ridicule as he grew up. Living with a single father he never really had much interaction with his father who really didn't want anything to do with Dominique, and basically because of the kids taunting the boy sort of became what they expected him to be and unconsciously drifted toward a more androgynous appearance. Despite though he seems to be pretty aggressive and impulsive about proving his masculinity. Secretly Dominique dreamed of becoming a superhero himself since then he could prove that he wasn't just a wimp. Possibly because of his nature he was chosen by a magical item that shared a bit of his own nature.
This is where the transformation comes in, Dominique was sort of called to a magical coin that contained a coin with the mark of Aries engraved into it. Once he held the coin it triggered his transformation into Cute Saint Aries, basically a magical girl themed after the Western Astrology.
In this I'd like the theme of this particular magical girl team to fall along the ideal of the the twelve zodiacs. I don't want to get too heavily into what constitutes a character that would be considered a match for a particular part of the zodiac other than they attribute some of the themes that that particular sign sort of conveys. In the case of Aries the sign conveys expressiveness or impulsiveness which is kind of what I wanted Dominique to be as a character. Also I wanted to point out that the characters would not necessarily have to be male in their original form, I don't want this to become some sort of like weird cross dressy transgendery sort of SG (No offense to Transgender Cross Dressy sorts of people.) I just thought that Dominique mad a better male in his normal form than a female changing into Cute Saint Aries.
This wouldn't just cover the Magical Girls either, the reason I chose the Zodiac was that it presented a couple of other options for character to interact with each other. Basically the magical girl theme doesn't just cover the girls but the 'knights' as well or the people that are assigned as their guardians. In this case the Zodiac would be overlooked by the Planets. For instance Mars is the planet that overlooks Aries. In this case I would be using the completely modern version of the zodiac which would include Ceres the dwarf planet in our solar system as the over looker of Virgo. This would effectively give us 11 gaurdians to the twelve zodiacs.
While I figured that the zodiacs would be 'Cute Saint so-and-so' I don't know what exactly I'm going to call the guardians yet. That would be something I'd have to leave up to discussion.
So there would be a couple of things to look at in consideration of the theme of the characters which I've supplied links for:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_astrology
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magical_girl
Generally I think the hardest part is going to be coming up with a sort of character concept for all the Zodiacs. In this I would like to think that we can play a little loose and fast with the powers that would be linked to the Zodiac. Of course this would fit in well with Magical Girls in general who mostly have very vague powers in the first place. As well since this is Paragon City I have no problem with the powers being 'combat based.' In that the power grants the user an ability that directly effects combat. Of course this would be up to the person that decides to make the magical girl in question.
For instance I've decided that the Cute Saint Aries being the ram could represent a sort of stubbornness, so I've envisioned her as a Tanker sort of character who can take a lot of hits and keep on coming. Right now she does have a mace as her power set but I am going to change that once the staff power set comes around. Others could be as simple or contrived as you'd want them to be, Sagittarius might simply be an Archer, but by the same token her eager nature might also land her the Kinetic power set. Taurus being ferociously loyal might do something like take the Shield power set (So they can charge as a bull.) Or they might do something more along the lines of force fields if they feel they can justify it.
These are just ideas for the time being, I wanted to see if I could garner some interest in the hopes that more people would be interested in making Magical Girls, making this into some sort of thing.Quote:Its actually not fine with him, he hates the fact that he transforms into a girl. Its slightly comedic.
My magical girl, though, is actually a science girl. She's one of the Nuclear Not-90 - people who got part but not the complete mutation- that was abducted by Crey in a sinister plot with Chattel Toys, Inc. to boost the popularity of the venerable Saturday Morning Cartoon franchise, Princess Melody and the Singing Stars of Symphonia V. She was eventually disposed of as a failed test subject, but escaped.
The base character is a magical girl, but is entirely fictional in-universe. -
Hmm, I have a magical girl. Thinking pisces or leo, maybe....

Quote:Kin seems like a targeting clusterbomb, as you have to change from ally to enemy a lot. I'm not sure about it, honestly. Why corr instead of troller? What changes? Either way, I have one and a half ranged damage focused characters atm.Go Fire/Kin corruptor.
The /Kin will boost your +damage, and you will melt faces .. along with having a heal, the ability to make your friends run super quick, and well boosting their damage so they can melt faces too!
Fire is just heavy damage. Along with the +damage from kin, you can further melt faces.
I always hear about dual pistols for blasters, how are they for corrs and defenders? Can't check myself, on my phone.
Not having to micro manage individual pets but having the option sounds good for MMs, especially as I'm predisposed to make a "normal person" build out of this. Are mercs still bad at low levels? -
She's a young, goody-two-shoes bookworm from a parallel dimension with a star in her body and a song in her soul. The other one is a wealthy, self-centered criminal defense lawyer with a cold iron heart, silver tongue, and brass cojones. Together, they fight crime!
http://virtueverse.net/wiki/Captain_Solaria
My friend (Square Woot) plays the lawyer, and I play the goody-two-shoes. We're itching to get some plotty goodness and character development going! To that end, we'd love to get some allies and antagonists... Please? -
Hehe, I'm in tysons corner right now.
how does that play? My grav/energy is already very similar to a blaster, and corruptors seem to focus on being more durable blasters with team support as a marginal focus. -
I would like each of my characters to be significantly different from the others, to avoid deja vu or a problem I have where mostly similar characters have mostly similar binds and the one or two differences mess me up badly. :P
I currently have:
- A melee/range hybrid KM Scrapper, who covers my need to be versatile. Fights from the air, decent AoE. Was also a huge IO investment, so it'd be nice if what's next is cheap.
- A dedicated fencer, Dual Blades Scrapper. Ninja Run.
- A ranged soft-control type. Gravity/Energy Dominator. Combat Jumping and Rocket Board.
Tanking in this game seems unappealing, as it really seems to lose the complexity I'm used to; it looks like more durable scrapping to me, but it's an option.
Masterminds might be fun, though I'm not sure how much I'll like pet micro management; do you have to send different pets to different targets?
Control is a possibility, even though I am quite happy with my dom.
I'm leaning heavily to a buff support role- I'd say I was in a healer mood in other games, but healing as a primary task seems iffy in this game.
This will be a villain, so no Kheldians; I already have multiple high levels and I don't want to rush up to twenty to do more tips. Also, not likely to take Dark anything, demons, or necromancy... I just usually don't like those concepts.
Thanks for the input! -
My two cents:
Afterburner: The best T5. It significantly increases my DPS uptime on Marauder in Lambda, as well as a few other fights; it gives me a lower intensity but much longer duration phase shift; it gives anti-fly protection which is crucial for my ranged defense dependent builds - ran into a few AE mishes where half the enemies had web grenades; it can be a LotG mule, giving Flight two mules. I was very skeptical of this power originally, I am a true believer now.
Burnout: The primary secondary restriction really limits it; abilities which crash will continue to keep your endurance from regenerating even when the godmode is supposed to trump that. However, it presents a real and viable alternative to LotG slaving for the cash strapped. You might not be able to get perma-light form as a freem, but you can get a really long light form when you need it.
Long-Range Teleport: Superfluous, imo. Nice, but not great. I only take it on RP primary characters. Teleport would be better if it worked through the map.
Spring Attack: should have belonged to teleport. This attack gets noticeably better the more global recharge you have; on a low recharge character, I would skip. On a high recharge damage character, or anything stone armor, take it. -
For anyone who's curious how the experiment is going - so far, it's well. I am using a slightly different build than posted - I did pick up Burst in my most recent respecialization, and I actually ditched Concentrated Strike (though I am keeping it in my 'street' build!).
1) Things short of AVs usually don't stay up long enough for Concentrated Strike to matter, and its long animation locks you into being unable to react well. With a squishy set like Fiery Aura, fast animation times are better to make use of the quick recharging, major heal. To abuse Power Siphon's constant up-time properly, there's really no point in being ranged at all. I'd argue it's best to focus on that with a Stalker (and I am considering a Kinetic Melee stalker! - seriously, this set seems insane for Stalkers).
2) The fast animating attacks I've kept build up Power Siphon faster (when I need to use it, I close in while blasting until I am at melee range, and then can spam my melee attacks to build it up), and I can even build it with not just one but two AoEs. Fireball and Ring of Fire do insane damage, even though they do not benefit from Fiery Embrace.
3) I can hover-blast safely against things I'm not IOed enough to tank yet, and spend no time having to chase targets.
I think there is definitely something to be said for trying it invuln instead - I do like Blazing Aura, but I don't get maximum usage for it yet. (I should try challenging myself more on non-fire farms.) I firmly believe, however, that minus its incredible efficiency - and I find myself with no end problems - Burn is overrated in importance. It has a limited radius, one I have trouble constantly depending on due to lacking a brute taunt component, while Repulsing Torrent hits a huge swath of enemies. Repulsing Torrent also does more damage per cast-cycle than Burn. Yes, it does require you to move a little bit to use it best (not hard while flying with slotted hover, especially as you have -ranged attacks.-)
I'll be posting an updated build later.
I do think things can get better still, and moving towards more melee abilities as my durability goes up is a definite. In practice, this build is really more "how can I abuse Hover for fun and profit as a Fiery Aura scrapper" and I'd like to eventually move to a comfortable middle where I am dealing significant ranged DPS, but am still a melee primary role. Not gonna happen until I find a way (read: IOs) to splat less in trials though. -
Elude-Burnout-Elude will NOT work. The Elude 'no endurance recovery' debuff is flagged as superceding any other buff for its duration. You'd still need to pop blues like candy.
One With the Shield, Moment of Glory, Rain of Arrows, Strength of Will etc are better options. Biggest thing I can think of to take advantage of it is an x/Rad Corruptor or Defender, who gets a lot of 'nukes' - Nova, EMP, Fallout, Mutation, Burnout, Repeat could be fun in bad situations. -
Before my most recent reroll of the character, I ran into someone was the same archetype/powerset combo, both of us sun-themed, with the exact same color scheme and very similar bios. That was weird.
-
I'm sure it's a tired concept, but yeah. I like it~. -
Quote:Burst to Repulsing Torrent is 4.8 to 3.9 damage per second of recharge, at base. Torrent can hit a much wider range and activates a full second quicker, while also recharging faster - with range and flight, I actually would not be surprised if Torrent is more useful for this build than Burst. I don't doubt that Burst is usually the better power, by far, but I'm not sure the gulf is as big for this.repulsing torrent is half the damages of burst...
seriously, taking fire without taking burn is a waste.
why not taking Energy Armor and color it yellow/orange? it'll fit to your gameplay and your concept !
I really like Rise of the Phoenix conceptually, but depending on how this turns out, Invuln and Energy Armor were next on my list to try. -
Two AoE attacks, actually - Repulsing Torrent and Fireball. Burst is a possibility, though I HATE its long animation time, it already does make me feel useless. Burn is annoying to use with hover, which is one of the needed concept powers.

I think my confusion is more clear when paired with the specific part of her post you originally quoted a reply to. XD I guess you were using that as an abbreviation to the whole post, but I thought you were doing a targeted reply. Hence my "Murr?"

Quote:She said story, not appearance... o_oThis is mostly explained by the fact that the New Way of costuming factions is to use Player rigs instead of NPC rigs. This means using costume pieces that players have (or will have soon). So, NPC factions will look like stuff players make and vice versa (with the exception of a few signature pieces reserved for the faction or signature NPCs).
So, the Carnival of Light was made by a Dev using our player costume creator.
I look forward to their pieces that they're wearing that we don't have access to yet being released to us players.
And the new CoT pieces, too. -
Hey all, I'd like to run this build in the game. Basic concept is the same idea behind a blapper - someone who is comfortable doing damage from range but goes in close to deal the heaviest damage - but more durable. As I'm a newbie, I'm hoping for some tips from more experienced players.
The character is currently level 39, and I'll be running a more traditional scrapper build on Slot 2 or 3 in order to exemplar better. Her theme is based on the sun, and essential concept powers are Rise of the Phoenix, Hover, and ranged single-target attacks.
Please note that as Mids has not updated yet, I am using Group Fly to represent Afterburner in this build. I also made some changes to the database to represent the new, lower levels of the Epic Power Pool abilities, and I hope Mids' won't freak over this.
Please do not make a primary target of your critique based on my choice of IO sets, these are based on what I have available to me for the most part, I have limited funds as a newbie.
One slot is unused and reserved for Analyze Weakness: Defense Debuff to get the 4 piece bonus, due to Mids' not being able to place Melt Armor at the level I actually can get it now.
No idea what sort of Alpha Slot I should get when I unlock that! Thinking Musculature, though.
