Magical Girl SG?

So a while ago (Around the time the Science Pack came out and I could make drastic changes to a characters body type.) I created a magical girl that at the time was just sort of a test of the capabilities of the costume creator and if I could accurately make a male character that transforms into a female character look similar in appearance. As time has gone on and with the 'secret leak' of the staff set that is coming soon I've decided that its about time I flesh out the Magical Girl concept a little more. So I've taken a look at my character Cute Saint Dominique in a more critiquing light and I think I've come up with a good sort of back story not just to the character, but to the 'Magical Girls of Paragon' sort of ideal.

So first off I guess a little about the character himself, and sort of why he would fit into the Magical Girl theme. In general Dominique is sort of a wimp of a character, before his mother died she was the one to name him Dominique which subsequently made him the target of childhood ridicule as he grew up. Living with a single father he never really had much interaction with his father who really didn't want anything to do with Dominique, and basically because of the kids taunting the boy sort of became what they expected him to be and unconsciously drifted toward a more androgynous appearance. Despite though he seems to be pretty aggressive and impulsive about proving his masculinity. Secretly Dominique dreamed of becoming a superhero himself since then he could prove that he wasn't just a wimp. Possibly because of his nature he was chosen by a magical item that shared a bit of his own nature.

This is where the transformation comes in, Dominique was sort of called to a magical coin that contained a coin with the mark of Aries engraved into it. Once he held the coin it triggered his transformation into Cute Saint Aries, basically a magical girl themed after the Western Astrology.

In this I'd like the theme of this particular magical girl team to fall along the ideal of the the twelve zodiacs. I don't want to get too heavily into what constitutes a character that would be considered a match for a particular part of the zodiac other than they attribute some of the themes that that particular sign sort of conveys. In the case of Aries the sign conveys expressiveness or impulsiveness which is kind of what I wanted Dominique to be as a character. Also I wanted to point out that the characters would not necessarily have to be male in their original form, I don't want this to become some sort of like weird cross dressy transgendery sort of SG (No offense to Transgender Cross Dressy sorts of people.) I just thought that Dominique mad a better male in his normal form than a female changing into Cute Saint Aries.

This wouldn't just cover the Magical Girls either, the reason I chose the Zodiac was that it presented a couple of other options for character to interact with each other. Basically the magical girl theme doesn't just cover the girls but the 'knights' as well or the people that are assigned as their guardians. In this case the Zodiac would be overlooked by the Planets. For instance Mars is the planet that overlooks Aries. In this case I would be using the completely modern version of the zodiac which would include Ceres the dwarf planet in our solar system as the over looker of Virgo. This would effectively give us 11 gaurdians to the twelve zodiacs.

While I figured that the zodiacs would be 'Cute Saint so-and-so' I don't know what exactly I'm going to call the guardians yet. That would be something I'd have to leave up to discussion.

So there would be a couple of things to look at in consideration of the theme of the characters which I've supplied links for:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_astrology

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magical_girl

Generally I think the hardest part is going to be coming up with a sort of character concept for all the Zodiacs. In this I would like to think that we can play a little loose and fast with the powers that would be linked to the Zodiac. Of course this would fit in well with Magical Girls in general who mostly have very vague powers in the first place. As well since this is Paragon City I have no problem with the powers being 'combat based.' In that the power grants the user an ability that directly effects combat. Of course this would be up to the person that decides to make the magical girl in question.

For instance I've decided that the Cute Saint Aries being the ram could represent a sort of stubbornness, so I've envisioned her as a Tanker sort of character who can take a lot of hits and keep on coming. Right now she does have a mace as her power set but I am going to change that once the staff power set comes around. Others could be as simple or contrived as you'd want them to be, Sagittarius might simply be an Archer, but by the same token her eager nature might also land her the Kinetic power set. Taurus being ferociously loyal might do something like take the Shield power set (So they can charge as a bull.) Or they might do something more along the lines of force fields if they feel they can justify it.

These are just ideas for the time being, I wanted to see if I could garner some interest in the hopes that more people would be interested in making Magical Girls, making this into some sort of thing.

Hmm, I have a magical girl. Thinking pisces or leo, maybe....

He wants to prove his masculinity, but is fine with transforming into a girl to do so? I see.

'I don't like the look of it at all,' said the King: 'however, it may kiss my hand if it likes.'
'I'd rather not,' the Cat remarked.
'Don't be impertinent,' said the King, 'and don't look at me like that!' He got behind Alice as he spoke.
'A cat may look at a king,' said Alice.

Its actually not fine with him, he hates the fact that he transforms into a girl. Its slightly comedic.

Edit:

I've taken some picture of the costume that I used for my magical girl. I dunno if there should be a uniform or not but its something to look at, at the very least.

If you haven't seen the anime "Kore wa Zombie desu ka?", you might want to. <.<

Fig'd as much.

My magical girl, though, is actually a science girl. She's one of the Nuclear Not-90 - people who got part but not the complete mutation- that was abducted by Crey in a sinister plot with Chattel Toys, Inc. to boost the popularity of the venerable Saturday Morning Cartoon franchise, Princess Melody and the Singing Stars of Symphonia V. She was eventually disposed of as a failed test subject, but escaped.

The base character is a magical girl, but is entirely fictional in-universe.

Yea I think I'd want actual magical girls, kinda to play around with the whole idea of destiny and all that stuff.

Personally, I think it adds an interesting potential angle there, similar to the revelation that Firestorm was a failed fire elemental that was destined to be, until science came in and altered (but did not ultimately prevent) the destiny. Your choice though, doubt I'll make a second magical girl.

I think Princess Melody would add an interesting dynamic to your story. She sounds like she fits in well enough with the magical girl thems, and could bring an interesting perspective.

I was in a group like this back in the day, when @Anne and her crew ran one. Then again when the Sushi Squad was all over the place. They're rather fun groups; I just don't have the time to put into yet another alt.

I'm going to go ahead and assume RPSG? if so then I'd be interested in making a magical girl and joining, I'd be interested in Aquarius, Sagittarius or Capricorn I reckon. Want me to toss a PM your way?

O.O A THEME SG?! Will it last? I've never gotten a theme SG to last!

I have a magical girl with a skin condition that makes wearing clothes difficult/painful so has almost always tried to stay in the Magical Girl outfit as it was the one exception.

I've flirted with the magical girl concept on a few of my characters, but only have one near the "standard". The main difference is that she's a somewhat reformed delinquent, and still prefers to subdue evil with direct applications of her sceptre rather than using it for magic. As a Bane archetype, she can do either. And since you opened the door to pictures, here:

By the way, are those Barbarian armlets on yours? I thought we didn't have those as an option for females.

Barbarian Ring is an option on females, for sure.

That's an awesome use of Bane Spider so I really, really hope you guys let Melody into this SG. We could be the most awesomely strange group of Magical Girls ever.

Well I guess it wouldn't be a huge deal where her back story originates, the only thing is that we'd have to figure out where she'd fit among the Cute Saints and she'd have to be mostly magic in her overall style. (Otherwise she wouldn't be much a magical girl.)

Yes, this is going to be an RPSG. And if you're interested go ahead and shoot me a PM, I've already got someone else PMing me about taking a magical girl as well, so I'll need to make a list of who's wanting to take what soon.

That's an interesting idea. Are you throwing your hat into the ring or just telling us about your neat magical girl?

Yea, I'm going along the lines of a more Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha sort of concept in that just hitting your enemies would be fine. Of course if you wanted a more Sailor Moon Esque magical attack Magic Girl that'd be cool too.

I really liked the idea of this, and had a thought I wanted to throw out there. In addition to the girls you also mentioned the knights; would you be open to the idea of a guardian/knight that's a female?

My basic idea would involve a girl that's naturally pretty big and strong, made moreso by magic. Not really a frilly skirt wearing type, so even if she has a connection to the girls, she isn't really the sort to be "one" of them.

I also wouldn't be able to really get too involved until after my move; which is taking place over the next two and a half weeks. If those are both okay with you, let me know, and I'd write up something better to get involved.

There are definitely guardian characters that are female, this has been explored a whole bunch of times in anime and such. So I wouldn't really have any problem with it.

Sounds good! I saw that your idea was for each planet to guard over a specific zodiac. It seems like this would be something that would lead to a lot of RP between the two respective people. I have a vauge idea in mind for my girl, but before I flesh her out or pick her planet, I'll wait to see if anyone has interest in having her as a guardian. Either way, I should have a little IC blurb about her pre-magic days posted soon, just for something to go off of.

Throwing my hat into the ring of course! I'd have to rework her a bit, the magical girl SG I created and had her in was different, and I didn't care for her power sets either.

The hard part would be deciding which sign and then what sets to go along with it though. Hmmm...

Alright I've generated enough interest that I can safely say that I'm willing to start this up. So I've gone ahead and actually made a group to that effect called the Zodiac Saints.

We'll have to figure out what roles we want to take and all before we commit to roleplay. Of course like any good Magic girl anime people can come in and leave at any time for other girls to take the roles and not really upset the narrative too much.

If you guys need to message me my global is @Biggerthantoast.

Of course could also just PM me on here.

Without further ado, the list, still in construction:

Cute Saints:

Aries - Me
Taurus
Gemini
Cancer
Leo
Virgo
Libra
Scorpio - FlonnEtna
Sagittarius - Limedolly
Aquarius
Pisces

Star Knights:
Sun (Knight of Leo)
Moon (Knight of Cancer)
Earth (Knight of Taurus)
Mercury (Knight of Gemini)
Venus (Knight of Libra)
Mars (Knight of Aries)
Jupiter (Knight of Sagittarius)
Saturn (Knight of Capricorn)
Uranus (Knight of Aquarius)
Neptune (Knight of Pisces)
Pluto (Knight of Scorpio)
Ceres (Knight of Virgo)

Interest in spots:
Lady Sunflash: Leo or Pisces
Square Woot: One of the Knights

Did a little reading up on things; and I'd like to take Knight of Saturn. From what I read, it governs realism, practically, and sense of duty. My idea is for a very serious girl with a strong sense of duty and responsibility. Sort of the "straight man" as it were, though I imagine sooner or later neither of those words will apply. -_-

Seeing as how this is based off an anime genre I've seen a bit up, AND I'm a tokusatsu nut and the fact Magical Girl is a genre that falls under that...

Any room for a mysterious male hero who sometimes shows up to help the girls? Someone like Tuxedo Mask? From what I've seen of Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew and Magical Knight Rayearth, the girls often have a male hero aiding them.

And there is totally nothing wrong with me watching those animes. >_> They're Tokusatsu and I love Tokusatsu.

I don't see the connection.
