Quote:Oh I know she's not infallible but it seems from her posts over the years that she's very careful about what she states as fact versus what she states as conjecture. She chooses her words methodically. Can she be wrong? Sure she's still human, but I'd put my money on anything she said was "fact" being right every time. She isn't infallible and has herself put up posts where she admits she was wrong. One simple thing I see a lot is general presentation of post and attitude seems to bring out posts like that in folks. This isn't meant to be a personal attack, BTW. A valuable poster, so valuable that "they can't afford to employ her!"

Quote:Are you just trolling or do you actually believe this nonsense you spout? I've been playing COH off and on since beta and during all these years reading Arcanaville's posts I don't think I've ever seen anything she's ever stated as fact EVER be proven wrong. It's rare Arcanaville gets snippy... and even her version of snippy is kinda tame. If there's one thing I KNOW I can count on with any of Arcanaville's posts, it's that if there is math involved, and/or intimate knowledge of the game mechanics, there is no better source to take as gospel.I'd love to play poker with you, I can't imagine anyone being easier to read. I have also never seen anyone else so embrace the when wrong attack philosophy the way you do.
Hey your calculations suck, throw anything you can at the person who points it out, throw out irrelevancies, and go hyperbolic, hell maybe with enough of that maybe nobody will notice. -
Sigh you're right... I didn't even think about the fact that it's a praetorian zone...

Did they add a First Ward teleport beacon or was even that small addition to bases too much to hope for? >_>

After running the arc numerous times to test the rewards
I was able to get:
Alignment Merit x1 (reward table says I cant get this again for 7 days from this arc)
20 bonus merits x1 (this is the normal 5 merit reward x4 and reward table says I cant get this again for 7 days from this arc)
Astral Merit x2 (reward table let me choose this twice for some reason and then told me I couldn't get it again for 7 days)
10 Incarnate Threads x1 (reward table says I cant get this again for 7 days from this arc)
5 Bonus Merits (this is what you can get an unlimited number of times it seems) -
i'd like to second using the tech wings and/or rocket boots costume pieces (from costume recipe drops)
I have a tech character who flies and I went with the rocket boots costume pieces to show where her flight comes from. -
-
The uses I found for it are:
Quote:All in all if you're looking for a place to stick a LotG and you have hover and fly already this is a convenient option. It noticeably shortens travel times across vast distances. The token defense while it's active doesn't hurt and the flight control is nice when you're trying to zip from clicky to clicky without the drift interrupting you on some outdoor maps or patrols.LotG mule :P
Increased Flight Control (Basically fly wont have that drifty/slidey feel)
Defense boost when traveling (may not be as useful outside but in mission maps without alot of head room it makes for a decent defensive power if you bite off more than you can chew and have to retreat) -
i'd love if they changed it so the secondary progression went like this:
1
1
2
4
10
16
20
28
35
It's basically what we have now but everything gets bumped up a notch earlier since you can pick between 2 powers at level 1 in your secondary. -

Keep in mind there is no option to do a one time payment for a single month of subscription time. Most MMO's follow that same set up. Basically if you want to pay month to month you subscribe... wait to see the charge happen and confirm you have game time for the next 30 days and then cancel the subscription. You'll have to do this every month if you want to pay month to month. Incidentally it seems less annoying to simply buy game time cards and apply them when you see fit.

The funny thing for me is on my emp/arch defender I rarely have time to deal damage. I have her built in such a way that I have alot to do. Sure I have 3 st blasts and 2 aoes and I use them when I have time but when I am doing TFs/Trials I am more often than not making sure as many people as possible have fort and/or adrenalin boost, tossing out sleeps and holds (psi APP), looking for opportune times to use the auras, making sure i clear mind anyone who gets cc'd, and of course healing. I blast when I can don't get me wrong... but I have alot to keep me busy in between.

While this is the only one I've found so far I imagine others may pop up and this seems like a good time to consolidate them.
Currently in my base the SG symbol on all decorative items that use the SG symbol have changed to the biohazard symbol. No amount of changing SG symbols seems to change the items placed or in the builder. Color changes still work but changing the symbol does not. -
I'd probably pick my ill/rad... perma PA is hard to beat for just about anything that isn't hami and even on a hami she has lots to contribute.
Lost of soloability plus group friendly abilities. -
One day people will learn to not argue with Arcanaville :P
No matter how right you think you might be if you're actually wrong she will break it down as to exactly why.
And if you're right? Well she'll be supporting your position and telling everyone else why you're right.
Until that day however I have an endless stream of forum entertainment! -
My own mind/psi/psi is built entirely to be ranged. I built for a ton of global recharge so I have perma Domination without hasten since I didn't want to rely on hasten to keep it perma. That said I am actually considering adding hasten back to my build just so I have a bigger buffer of time on Domination (to counter -recharge effects that could stop my Dom being perma). And while he isn't soft capped he does have over 32% ranged defense.
My single target attack chain is Dominate, Subdue, Levitate. I chose to go this route for a number of reasons. First, Dominate is always my lead off and i have it slotted with a mix of io's and hamis to get as much as I can out of all aspects of the power as a hold and as a damage attack. Second, I wanted to have a source of non-psi damage and Levitate fit the bill nicely. Subdue works as a my hardest, non snipe, hitter.
My aoe options are Terrify, Psychic Scream and Psionic Tornado. While psi-tornado isn't my favorite choice it does decent damage and at range. During the time I used to have Psychic Shockwave it always annoyed me having to jump into and out of melee range to use it and my ranged cone attacks. Psi tornado allows me to stay at a fixed ranged spot and aoe effectively.
You can build to be entirely ranged and entirely effective. You can also build to hybridize melee attacks into your playstyle for more dps. The choice is entirely up to you. Whatever you decide, with the right build virtually anything is possible. -
Quote:just to nitpick... COH came long before champions online. And just because coh is adding this hybrid model does not mean it is copying them. Much of what is CO was copied from COH in fact.two aren't and one is. the one that is actually had more people on. Like i said at least Champions, the game this game is copying from (weekly releases look like cleverly laid alpha layers or just textures on existing templates) lets me solo raid content, and I just came back (to these forums) to see if things changed with that post, but seems like it didn't. I had my answer, the end.

Quote:Ah I didn't realize the duration of mez's on AV's was shorter... that would make the stacking a bit more precarious but thanks for confirming the mechanics generally work the way i thought they didthe purple triangles do add 50 protection to most mez (this is on top of whatever base protection they have)
the purple triangles do not show up in the combat attributes if you use power analyzer or surveillance
and you have it right, basically just stack up enough mez to get past that threshold and it will permahold if you keep it up (its essentially the same thing as perma confusion through the purple triangles)
while it is possible to do with holds, its much harder to do than with confuse due to the purple patch shortening the duration on the mez slightly (so your 50 sec hold wouldnt be 50 sec vs an even con AV) -
I've been reading up on the "purple triangles of doom" and I was curious... could a lone Dominator with permadom hold an AV through it's purple triangles? According to the Wiki purple triangles only adds in 50 extra mag of protection and (again according to the wiki) Domination doubles the mag of your controls. So my single target hold should be mag 6 if I understand that correctly.
Then wouldn't it stand to reason that stacking my ST Hold 10 times should hold an AV regardless of its protection? With dom active my single target holds last around 50 seconds and it takes me roughly 23 seconds to stack it 10 times (60 mag). Or am I completely misunderstanding how the AV protection works >.>
If anyone with insight would please feel free to educate me so I can understand how it actually works in game I'd be grateful. -
I just wish they'd do away with the current naming conventions and go with an open naming policy. Let our global handle be our unique identifier... let us use the name we want for our character. So what if someone else has the same name?

You can only have 5 of the same bonus no matter what.
If you have 5% run speed from 5 different sets and try to get another 5% from a 6th set it won't add any additional run speed.
Now if you had 5% runspeed from 5 different sets and try to get a 3% runspeed set bonus THAT would work.
It sounds like you may have more than 5 of those 5% run speed set bonuses. -
One thing that really bugs me about the naysayers who are all like "I'm VIP i should get everything for free! wha! no more free powersets for me!" is they conveniently ignore the fact that Time Manipulation and the First Ward content ARE included in the VIP sub... and we have no idea what new stuff coming down the pipe will also be included in the VIP sub as well. Just assuming that you'll never see another powerset/zone added that is included in the VIP sub is stupid.
The whole point of Freedom is to overwhelm with options. Some new stuff will be included in the subscription... but more new stuff will be in the store. The content/powersets added as part of the subscription could very well keep pace with what we've seen the past 7 years (i.e. slow as hell) but people still cry about the deluge of "buyable" content that will be added to the store and I just dont understand that. And just to comment... we did NOT get everything for free in the past. We got "what they wanted to give us" for free. And we'll still be getting "what they want to give us" for free (time manip) but we always had to pay for other things like Demon Summoning and Dual Pistols. Freedom simply puts many things in front of you and lets you decide how to use your points to get what you want and when.
Bottom Line: If you maintain your sub you wont be losing anything you have now. Let me be clear... ANYTHING YOU HAVE NOW... that means what you have at this point in time and not stuff that may or may not come in the future. What you get in the future will be along the lines of a powerset or two included in your sub once inna long while. (just like now) and a bunch of other power sets you can buy... with the points you get as part of your sub I might add. The addition of the store does not mean the end of content being added just for being a VIP. It just means you're going to be tempted with more shinies than you've seen in a long time, to shell out extra cash to have it "NAO!". But you have the CHOICE of saving your points and acquiring them at a slower pace... and there is NOTHING wrong with that. -
While this is a concept that was what originally started out as the Time Manipulation set we'll be seeing in I21, there's no reason a future Time Control set couldn't be introduced. This would give both Dominators and Controllers a new primary to play with and would thematically work well with Time Manipulation on controllers. I know people in the past have suggested such a set but here are my ideas for it!
1. Time Snare - Ranged, Moderate DoT (Energy), Foe Immobilize, -Recharge
Immobilizes a single target by manipulating its timeline and deals some energy damage over time. Some more resilient foes may require multiple attacks to Immobilize. Time Snare can also reduce a target's attack rate.
2. Time Wrench - Ranged, Moderate DMG (Energy), Foe Hold, -Recharge, -Regen
Painfully wrenches a single foe through the time-space continuum. Time Wrench deals energy damage and renders a foe helpless, as they literally try to pull themselves back together in their own time, and unable to defend himself. More powerful foes may not be held, but all affected targets will have their attack speed and regeneration reduced, as well as taking some energy damage.
3. Temporal Field - Ranged (Targeted AoE), Minor DMG(Energy), Foe Immobilize, -Recharge
You can immobilize multiple foes by manipulating timelines in a large area, dealing some energy damage over time and reducing attack rates.
4. Temporal Disruption - Ranged, High DMG (Energy), -Regen, -Recovery
Blasts the target with a concentrated beam of temporal energy that disrupts the space in time that the target occupies causing high energy damage and slowing the rate at which they regenerate health and recover endurance.
5. Alter Timeline - Ranged, Foe Confuse
You can temporarily alter an enemy's timeline, changing their history so they hold a different allegiance. If successful, the enemy will ignore you and attack his own allies. If you alter someone's timeline before he has noticed you, your presence will continue to be masked. You will not receive any experience points for foes defeated by an enemy whose timeline has been altered.
6. Time Shatter - Ranged (Targeted AoE), Minor DMG(Energy), Foe Disorient, -To-Hit
You shatter time for a brief instant in a small area around an enemy, damaging all nearby foes. The Time Shatter deals minimal Energy damage, and can Disorient all affected targets for a good while, as well as reduce their chance to hit.
7. Time Freeze - Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe Hold
Freezes time around a targeted foe and those near him. Time Freeze renders all affected foes helpless, frozen in time and unable to defend themselves.
8. Time Storm - Ranged (Targeted AoE), Moderate DMG(Energy), -Recharge -SPD, -DEF(All)
Unleashes a storm of temporal energy on a target, disrupting time around them and nearby foes. The Time Storm damages foes and greatly Slows their attack speed and movement speed as well as reducing their defense.
9. Temporal Ally - Summon Doppelganger: Ranged, Moderate DMG(Energy)
You can call upon an alternate timeline version of yourself to assist you in battle. Your temporal ally is not as powerful as you but has similar powers to yourself such as Time Wrench, Temporal Disruption, and Time Storm
Your Temporal Ally is slightly resistant to Smashing, Lethal and Energy damage, but vulnerable to Psionic and Negative Energy damage.
Overall I tried to keep to a similar layout to other control sets while at the same time taking some cues from the Time Manipulation, Gravity and Illusion sets. First off, I wanted to have a variety of secondary effects much like Time Manipulation has as well as have a varied selection of tools.
The first and third powers are your typical dot/immobilizes with a fairly standard secondary effect. The ST Hold takes some ideas from the Time Stop power in Time Manipulation with its secondary effects. Several of the control sets have direct damage abilities, two of which do pretty respectable damage (Spectral Wounds and Propel). I figured Time Manipulation could have a power like that in Temporal Disruption and added some interesting secondary effects as well. While not everyone can appreciate confuse powers, I thought a power like Alter Timeline was a perfect way to bring that mechanic to the set in a thematically interesting way. You aren't simply confusing this foe but rather rewriting his history so he's your friend... at least for a little while. Time Shatter and Time Freeze are your standard aoe stun and hold, with Time Shatter having a -to-hit debuff for something interesting added after the fact. Then we come to Time Storm, now I know some folk might be thinking "wtf an aoe damage power in a control set???", well the precedent was already set with powers like Terrify and to some extent Hot Feet and Bonfire. Time Storm gives the set the rare ability to dish out direct aoe damage while at the same time applying a strong soft control (slow, -attack rate) and a defense debuff. Now Time Storm and Temporal Disruption also serve a secondary purpose... to provide attacks for the Temporal Ally pet to use along with the ST Hold. Temporal ally is the tier 9 pet most control sets have and I felt this would be the perfect opportunity to use the doppelganger tech in a players hands. The pet takes inspiration from Illusion's Phantasm but has abilities that all reside in the Time Control set so that the pet has abilities similar to its summoner.
So there's my ideas! I know some of them may not seem great but I felt it wouldn't hurt just to get them out there. If nothing else perhaps they can serve to inspire an actual Time Control set for us in the future! -
Quote:While I can't say with 100% certainty this is how it works... when information is given on procs that say something like "activates roughly 3 times per minute" what is almost always being said is "this proc has an internal cooldown of such and such seconds and a high chance to proc. On average (but not always!) you should see this proc activating 3 times in any 60 second period of continuous use."The "will activate roughly 3 times per minute" is a pretty interesting bit, since I don't see any other enhancements with that kind of descriptive text.
Are they assuming it'll be slotted into a power that a player will be using frequently? How frequently? Does the chance for the proc vary with how often you're using the power? Is the proc forbidden from activating more than 3 times per minute?
I don't think I have any control powers that I'm firing off every 20 seconds or less. Maybe my ST hold at the start of a fight, or my AoE immob, which I'm using as a blast anyway...
Hopefully I can slot the proc into Singularity, get a consistent damage buff out of it, and then 5-slot one of my powers with the other 5 things.
As to singularity... procs placed in pets buff the pet not you so you would see no benefit to the proc for yourself there... assuming it can even be slotted in that power (the set says it can be slotted into MOST (not all!) control powers)
it is assumed that the power the proc is slotted in will be used often in a 60 second period to get 3 procs. -
According to the wiki, for all ancillary/patron power pools you must have one of the first two powers in the set before taking the third or fourth power. To take the fifth power I believe you must have at least two of the earlier powers in the set. If mid's is allowing you to do otherwise it's probably a bug. That said this will change in Freedom.
Currently on live the wiki indicates the first two powers in the set are available at 41, the second two are available at 44 with the final power being available at 47.
