Quote:OR you could support someone else's desires even if you have no interest in them simply for the fact you'll be helping someone else find happiness even if you have nothing to gain from it yourself besides the satisfaction of making another human being happy. It costs you nothing and in a small way makes the world a better place by showing support for your fellow human being!Yes, but to me, it is. The point I'm trying to make is that I do not care about Jab, thus I do not care what Jab does aesthetically. My *reason* for not caring about Jab happens to be based around it's mechanical applications, but the point still stands; I don't care about Jab. Until it is turned into a power that is worth using, I'll continue not to care about it.
In order for me to add my support for wanting additional animations for Jab, I'd actually have to want to *use* Jab first.
/supports alternate animation for jab! -
Quote:Well... technically speaking Doctor and Dr. are the same thing... Miss and Ms. however are not. Miss denotes an unmarried female. Ms. denotes a female whose marital status is unspecified.Ah, so it's kind of like the difference between Doctor Strange and Dr. Strange.
The more you know! -
I'm all for team based content providing the quicker path to rewards.
I do however believe there should be solo and smaller scale team content that provide a VIABLE (for example shards are NOT a solo viable method for advancing incarnate progression) alternative to the large scale teaming that might be slower but still provide a method for those who prefer solo and smaller scale content to engage in progression at a REASONABLE pace. -
Quote:I'm going to quote you again... read YOUR OWN WORDS... and then see if you can figure out why I have issue with them... here's a hint... it's not because I dislike teaming or even content that requires teams. No one has said that you must team to get everything done. The vast majority of the content in City of Heroes is completely soloable. However, there is some content that does and should require teams to do, and I find it completely unfathomable how someone could complain about that, since... you know... City of Heroes is a massively multiplayer online game.
No one has to do everything in the game. If you don't want to team, then don't run the content that requires teams! No, you're not being biased against, because as I stated above, the vast majority of the game's content is soloable. Why should those that do want to team be punished by those who feel that they should be able to solo everything?
Personally, I spend half my time soloing, and half my time in large teams. I don't like small teams. Yet you didn't hear me complain about the Halloween trial, which was limited to teams of four.

Quote:I'd like to point however that the limited palettes for what you consider "thematically correct" for "dark" powers are actually BRIGHTER than a "bright" option would give you. The limited "dark" palette is dull and flat. Any color you use is a pastel and so soft and wishy washy. A "bright" option using a dark color can actually look rich and powerful. Consider warshades. They use negative energy powers but their powers are of a "bright" palette yet still dark and negative themed.I believe Void and Dark themed powers use the same palettes, but your friend is one of many to weigh in on powersets that currently only have a limited palette, like Ice and Dark.
For a few powersets, we've decided to use unique palettes that give you more appropriate options for the theme. Personally, I feel that Dark powers, with all their in-game references to terror and the netherworld, as well as their Negative Energy damage type, should remain dark in color. This is important in preserving the theme of the power, and to distinguish it as a Negative Energy attack. That being said, however, there are a number of brighter, more saturated colors available in the "Dark" palette, so you can still create colorful combinations with Dark powersets.
I know this is a controversial decision, but ultimately we have to pick out visual elements that are considered "signature" to a powerset's theme and stick with them. I feel Fire and Electricity are more dependent on their shapes and animation than their colors to "sell" their themes, so they have a wider range of colors to choose from. Dark sets feel more appropriately sinister with their darker colors, so we preserved that trait when we added customizable options.
I'd would honestly ask you to reconsider being so unwilling to simply give us the options WE feel are appropriate instead of forcing us to accept YOUR (as in the devs not just you specifically) vision of what should be appropriate.
I am unable to customize my pain powers properly because they are stuck witha "dark" palette. A bright sharp red seems much more "painful" to me than the dull pastel looking grey/red I am stuck with currently. Again please reconsider this.
A fantastic example of how great a "dark" power can look with a "bright" option is the Soul Tentacles from the Soul Mastery PPP's vs. Tenebrous Tentacles from the dark sets. -
The recipes being consumable is vital to keeping the rarity of things. If we all learned a recipe after using it once in COH we'd all be able to produce as much as we had mats for as often as we please completely devaluing the products.
Consider this... know what else traditional MMO's that use the system you describe end up having? Produced items that are worth LESS than the mats needed to make them. In COH the value is mostly in the recipe itself not the mats needed to make it. The finished product is typically the most valuable of all since it incorporates an expended recipe and salvage and the influences costs to produce the enhancement. -

Incorrect sir.
Quote:Wanda's power to alter reality was spawned from the combination of her natural mutant abilities to affect probability and Chaos Magic. -
-
See I see the origins like this:
Mutant: Powers come from naturally occurring quirks in DNA from evolution (Jean Grey, Wolverine, etc)
Science: An experiment or accident has granted abilities of a superhuman nature to the individual (fantastic four, the hulk, spiderman, captain america)
Magic: The character is a spellcaster, magically attuned being or someone whose powers are derived solely from a magical artifact (Dr. Strange, Classic Vampire/Werewolf type characters, The Juggernaut)
Tech: Powers come from highly technical devices that require little innate ability on the user's part or possibly the being is itself an advanced piece of technology such as an artificially intelligent android or an organic being with inorganic parts such as a cyborg. (Iron Man, Steel, Vision, Data from TNG, The Bionic 6)
Natural: Natural character have innate strengths that are sometimes bolstered with other things from the tech, science and magic origins. Aliens can also qualify as Natural characters because any innate abilities they have are considered "natural" for their species. (Hawkeye, The Punisher, Batman, Superman... yes Superman is NATURAL... for a Kryptonian)
The key thing to realize about natural origin heroes is that if you strip away any external devices or talismans they still have innate gifts that are still extraordinary. Take away batman's utility belt and gadgets and he's still an incredibly intelligent man who has worked hard to get his body into tip top fighting shape, learned unarmed combat and has honed agility and marksmanship. Take away Hawkeye's Bow and fancy Arrows and he's still an incredible marksman. Sure he needs a bow to capitalize on that but that doesn't mean all his extraordinary ability comes from his bow. Aliens as I said have innate abilities perfectly normal for their race.
At least that's how I perceive it.
Also consider there is some mix and match between origins. Wolverine is a mutant but his claws for example while technically part of him are enhanced via science by being laced with adamantium. The Scarlet Witch and Magik are mutants but also use magic as well. -
This sums up my own build philosophy as well... Only builds that are high recharge reliant get considered for purple love.

A simple suggestion for an aura of glowing musical notes! Perfect for many sonic (or maybe a dj!) character concepts

Quote:I'll try to answer in a way you might find acceptable:BTW, I preface this by saying I am currently a VIP, but won't be one soon, no matter what the devs do. I have no vested interest in what actually happens to VIP players, this is just honest perplexitude.
I hate to state the obvious, but don't they already pay? They only get a third of their money's worth in points, not even enough to buy the powersets and costume pieces (more like a tenth of the money required to).
These are the people who've supported you for day one, and a lot of months in between more than I ever did that's for sure. I just don't get why you'd crap on them, even from a business perspective it seems an absurd quickster-esque move.
Obviously they needed more money, isn't that what premiums are for? People who wouldn't otherwise pay you anything are now paying you something. Isn't that the whole point? Do you really expect them to be more profitable than VIPs? No one is more profitable to your business than a VIP.
Even if you give them everything, you lose nothing. They pay every month to keep access to the new goodies you continue to give them. Yet you expect people to pay monthly and then pay more on top of that for content that used to be included?
What am I missing? This horse isn't dead enough for me.
The answer is as far as I can see, the devs aren't "crapping" on anyone. The company is simply investing much more into content production than they ever have before and thus needs to recoup those costs as well as make a profit. My subscription cost now has not gone up or down. But what I am getting from the subscription cost has increased though and my options for extras that aren't part of my subscription have vastly increased compared to before Freedom.
For example: I want Street Justice and a costume bundle but I don't have enough points right now and money was tight this month. But I will have enough points once my next stipend arrives. Those things I want are sort of like the old booster packs we paid extra for but now I can simply be patient and accrue points that come from subscription to save me any additional cash expenditure.
That's an example of something extra I am getting from my subscription now that I didn't have before. Prior to Freedom my subscription allowed me access to the game and paid for future development and maintenance of the servers. These things don't magically change when changing to a hybrid payment model. Those servers still need to be maintained and it costs money to do so. The change in model does not mean the devs are obligated to give every new "booster pack" away without cost to subscribers. Especially not at the pace at which they are now producing them.
This content is being produced at an incredible pace compared to before Freedom and thus there's a certain cost in development that must be recouped. That is why every little new thing cannot be given to subscribers for free. The company must not only recoup their investment but also make an acceptable level of profit to their share holders to justify the increased investment costs. The fact that the company is still producing content that comes included in the subscription at a similar pace to before the change in payment model is a testament to the value of the current subscription.
Basically the "booster pack" portion of the game development has been expanded dramatically. And "booster pack" style content has always cost extra even for subscribers. I hope that perspective answers your question. -
Considering my own vet status (tier 8) I've seriously been looking at possibly dropping to premium since the incarnate system is obviously not being designed with people like me in mind. Sure I'll miss the incarnate powers but frankly if the content is not fun for me to play and my vet status pretty much gives me everything I want but the incarnate stuff, my reasons to keep paying a sub are dwindling away. I may make a 1 time cash purchase of points to unlock whatever my vet status doesn't cover (which will in turn more than fill out tier 9 for me) and then just call it a day.
I'm sorry but if the incarnate system is the only real carrot that VIP has to offer me at the end of the day, and that carrot happens to require me to wade through dog poop to get to it, then thanks but no thanks. I can find something else to do with that 15 dollars a month. I'm a bit disappointed since I really like the new format for COH and I like the game overall and want to remain a VIP. But I am arbitrarily not enjoying one of the primary selling points of VIP status (incarnate stuff) and the devs insist on developing more of that stuff I dislike (itrials). If they continue to ignore the solo option that I would like (and which was said to be coming but with little sign to show that it is) then I see little reason to continue being a VIP.
The incarnate system just isn't designed for players like me I guess. Oh well. -
I'd pay good money to never have a touch an incarnate trial.
I don't like being coerced or bribed into doing things I just don't find fun. But that's precisely what been going on since incarnate content came to be.
I had really high hopes that we'd have seen a solo progression path for incarnates by now... really if you look up my post history you'll eventually find posts of mine sticking up for the devs when incarnate stuff first came out. I was sure the devs would have had a solo path by now.
Instead I have been disappointed at every turn. No solo progression path at all... just more junk trials, more treadmill, grind away, rng fests.
I posted in the 21.5 beta forums that I've basically written off incarnate stuff on any new characters because I find the trials to be distasteful and I'd honestly rather cut myself than grind through them over and over again. I've just hit the point where I've decided any advantages that incarnate powers might give in my day to day play just aren't worth subjecting myself to the itrial grind. I don't care what carrot they try to dangle in front of me I refuse to be coerced or bribed into any more activities that I find repugnant. -
I like afterburner as well... the speed boost is noticeable and the extra spot for a LotG is awesome
-
What I noticed was this glowie DOES make noise but it is NOT the traditional noise we normally associate with glowies.
-
You could just... I dunno not use AE? Regular content missions work well enough.
-
I believe lieutenants and bosses have a higher chance of dropping tips so you could try taking advantage of that as well.
-
Even immob resistance does SOMETHING though. No matter how inconsequential we may think that is. But a +healing bonus does NOTHING when you have no powers that heal.
-
it uses the same interface as the long range teleport power.
it might be intentional or it could be something that forgot to take out when internally testing the Halloween event.
Seems more of a bug than a feature though.
