Haven't you seen all those old black & white movies where when the group gets in a tight situation, the woman begins freaking out and to snap her out of it the (hero) guy hits her? It's exactly like that.

Please post a CoH Helper and HiJack This log. Generally the problem is an out of date driver or some malware on the machine... those two programs will help quite a bit in figuring out what's wrong.

Quote:If you think that sucks, you should check out Aion's trials. It'll expire after 3 days after creation, 5 hours of usage, or once you ding level 7...). And they still have RMTers out the wazoo (or at least they did a few months back when I bought the game).Yep. Our trial kinda sucks.
The devs know it does too, but they've had to put restrictions in due to money farmers. It doesn't stop them, but it does make it that much harder to get in and advertise.
Our trials may not be the best, but they're definitely not the worst. -
No, attacks are negative heals.
(technically, all the Heals in the game are attacks that do damage of a special type to you, but a negative amount... which is why they interrupt sleeps, and can be resisted)
Edit: To answer the question, while it's technically possible to do, I don't believe there's any player or NPC power in the game that does this. -
Assuming they have no other Knockback protection (or resistance), then it should work fairly well, although you won't be able to have much of an attack chain with constantly spamming Force Bolt.
-
This. Other ways include being on any sort of mission map, super group base, arena, or other task force like content.
I'd say that using the Arena would probably be the best method, since neither of you would be interrupted.
Also, there's no need to start flaming people right out the door (that's a damn good way to get people pissed at you). -
If you would rather not try, that's your prerogative. If you would like a good work-around that takes about two seconds to perform, then I need more information than 'it didn't work'.

There's quite a number of posts about this. It's not universal, and based on some traceroutes it would appear that it's most likely an issue with one of NC's upstream ISPs, and not an issue on the client or server side themselves.
You can bypass the updater by running one of the following commands (assuming default installation location:
32bit Windows: "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.exe" -project coh
64bit Windows: "C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.exe" -project coh
OS X: /Applications/City\ of\ Heroes.app/Contents/MacOS/cider --use-dos-cwd c:/coh -- c:/coh/cityofheroes.exe -project coh -
Quote:The issue is most likely not NCSoft's fault, but some network in the middle, as it's not happening to more than a small group of users, and the few people that have posted traceroutes would lead me to believe it's an upstream ISP that's crapping out.Bottom line is it should work as intended and not inconvenience the customer.
Quote:Yes we know how to copy an paste but unfortunatly what your telling me isn't working and I am unable to figure out why.
I'm not psychic, I can't see what's on your screen. -

First off, the Login Server where you login to the game, or the updater which updates the game (the one where you accept the EULA)? If it's the latter, that's been happening to some people, and can be bypassed (assuming no patches are out) by running:
32bit Windows: "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.exe" -project coh
64bit Windows: "C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.exe" -project coh
OS X: /Applications/City\ of\ Heroes.app/Contents/MacOS/cider --use-dos-cwd c:/coh -- c:/coh/cityofheroes.exe -project coh
For windows, I'd recommend just copying the command, pressing Windows key + R (to bring up the Run command dialog), pasting it in, then pressing OK. On OSX, I believe you need to go into the Applications folder, then the Utilities subfolder, and then run 'Terminal.app', then copy the command, paste it into the terminal, and press Enter to run it.
All of those commands assume you used the default installation directory, and will bypass the updater. If your client's version is not full up to date, you'll be unable to login successfully (you'll get a version mismatch error). -
RF2009 (RadioFreedom moved there, as the original channel got clogged with inactive accounts) is incredibly popular and active. Most anything going on on Freedom will be announced there, plus it's a general purpose channel for all sorts of things (there is no off topic on it).

Go to C:\Program Files\City of Heroes (on 32bit, or on 64bit go to C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes) and see if you have a 'data' folder in there, and inside that data folder you should have a folder named texture_library. If you do, you most likely have it correctly installed.
Remember, you'll likely need to restart the game to see the differences. -
She gets lost occasionally. Best to just punch her in the face.

Quote:The punchvoke that Brutes have is to help them generate fury, not hold aggro for a team, and generally isn't referred to as a 'Taunt power', as most people would assume you're meaning the power Taunt (which Scrappers have a scaled down version of, in Confront).I said "Brutes have a specific Taunt power, therefore it makes sense for them to use Taunt and hold aggro," because that specific Taunt power does not serve any other purpose besides grabbing and holding aggro. Brute also has a taunt effect in their attacks as well. In this case, A does mean B. Sure, you can grab and hold aggro with other powers, but that's not the point here.
Brutes can tank, but they're by no means required to tank. They're a flexible AT, and can fill many roles, and many builds can dynamically shift based on the needs of the current situation (and flexible > static when facing dynamic situations). -

As Deacon said, you can't change your patron arc or patron badge once they're selected.
Several issues back, they were changed to act more like an unlockable version of the APPs, in that your patron arc unlocks access to all pools, from there after it might as well work the same as APPs. Your first and second build can have different PPPs, and you can change your PPP with a respec. -

Quote:I've been doing a fair bit of marketing on Freedom (Blue and Reside), and I've not had any issues. I don't believe it's caused by server load, although that might make it more noticeable on Virtue. It may be the network although I haven't noticed any lag or sync problems anywhere else in game. When I get a spare moment or two I'll have to try on Freedom to see if it's server load but that will mean creating and leveling a character on Freedom in order to get some salvage to put on the market.

Have you tried checking to make sure the software/drivers are fully up to date? And just to be entirely pedantic, the executable is cityofheroes.exe, not COH.exe.

Quote:No more having to press the Period key three times! Now, to get an ellipse, all you have to do is simply type Alt+zero-one-three-three and BAM! You're good to go!Of course, on teh computrz, we have an entire character to use for ellipsis. No more need to type three whole periods when you can use a single ellipsis!
…
Wasn't that easy?
Everyone has a unique writing style, the very nature of language and grammar guarantees that. Merriam Webster was just a tool of the Illuminati's Thought Retention & Eradication Division... all part of their Grand Conspiracy® (yes, they've really trademarked that... check the USPTO!) to keep the masses sleeping sheeple. Quote:There is zero information about a CoH2, including whether one will ever happen. There's zero information about how it'll work, and whether it'll have any relation to CoH1.Would keeping my City of Heroes account active until this comes out...if it ever does...be a good thing?
If you're just wanting to keep your CoH1 account active for some possible, theoretical theory that it could possibly benefit you in CoH2... I have a friend in Nigeria that has quite a profitable business proposition for you. -
