  1. CO has a few nice features I'd like to see added to CoX, and none of those are anything surprising: Asymmetric items, leg pieces, back items. CO's costume editor was impressive for a few minutes, until I realized how little options there were (most looked like they came straight from CoH Issue 0- literally). CoX's item collection is FREAKING MASSIVE, no game compares in any way shape or form. Of course, that's no reason to not improve... but continue to show everybody that no one can even hope to compete.

    I'm not sure "whipping out Photoshop and Blender" is adequately described as "much harder". SL is also really quite a different beast than CoX, in that SL is more so a 3D development environment than... anything.

    No, the other side of the coin is it's an awesome time if you bought a new one just before the stagnation began, because it'll be current for longer.

    (generally, there's price drops pretty frequently in the computer industry as long as there's no clearly superior player)
  3. Looks like a sucky time to be investing in a new GPU or processor! I'm glad I (hopefully!) won't be investing in either for quite a while.
  4. I must be crazy, 'cause I find the OP's version more straight forward (it's the one that I worked out in my head one day when trying to figure out how long a 150 second recharge on hasten according to Mid's would actually take).
  5. Not really sure. Some things I'd check would be to run a full virus & malware scan, monitor your GPU & processor's temperatures while in game to see if they get abnormally high, and running memtest86 to ensure that your RAM is fine. All of those seem a bit like long shots, but with nothing else, they're worth a shot.

    Honestly, I consider the time thing a bigger deal, and the other more of a minor caution. There's been countless times where I've not logged on for extended periods of time... I'd be pretty pissed if the game tried to hold me hostage by get on or lose your stuff! Actually, back when the market was still relatively new, I wasn't playing much... but had to occasionally log on and go to WW/BM to keep my items on the market from being 'lost' (it was later than i found out that it was changed to apply only to inactive accounts!). Having to go through that made me want to play less.

    It's really personal preference, though. If it wasn't for the WW/BM thing, I'd probably just use the emails... assuming I had enough stuff that I needed a bank toon

    I'd be very careful about this... after all, the patch today included a fix for the attachments randomly getting lost... it's still a new system still with issues. Having a bank toon/toons, IMO, would be the safest option. Especially if you occasionally can't get on for a few days/weeks and... oops! There goes all your inf because you stored it in your emails!
  8. Are you talking about on a Demon Summoning mastermind, whenever you issue a command to the pets they'll say "hero.gender male Meister/Meisterin"?
  9. Are you still having issues? It's possible the globals had just temporarily gone down (not unheard of after a new patch). The globals appear to be working fine for me.
  10. Do you also have problems logging into Justice, Protector, and Virtue, but none of the others? That'd mean you're having issues with all the West Coast servers. I just tested logging into Guardian, and had no issue.

    When you see the blue screen, Windows has already halted the system. If it's a hardware issue, it'd be better to stay there than restart, anyways, since the system will largely be halted at that point, and you'll have the option of powering off, instead of automatically forcing a reinitialization of the hardware. The auto restart was put in as a PR move, not a stability move.

    Possibly. Not guaranteed

    Not really. I've experienced multiple video card failures and they all behaved differently.

    2. If it were the drivers themselves it wouldn't happen across several versions, which it has.
    Assuming a support file that hasn't changed hasn't been corrupted. You might want to uninstall the drivers, then run driver sweeper to completely remove any traces (while in safe mode), then install the current drivers. But it could also be some other driver triggering an issue in the nvidia drivers. Also, don't forget that CoX is basically the only OpenGL 3 game out there, so there's going to be a lot of driver issues that only crop up in CoX and no other games, without it being CoX's fault.

    3. This is the most likely given when the problem started, what the problem is doing, and no other program is having this problem.
    If it results in a blue screen, it's at least partly the system's fault. No program should be able to blue screen the system, and any that do are revealing a bug in the OS/driver. That doesn't mean there isn't also a bug in the game, but the system definitely has one.

    There's lots of possibly causes I can think up off the top of my head that can result in issues like this (most of which I've seen happen first hand). Malware, hardware failure, driver issues (even a driver other than the nvidia drivers!), RAM failure (run memtest86 to check this), etc. I'm sure if I gave it more than 20 seconds I could come up with more

    Yes. If you don't mind waiting, the Complete Collection is a better deal.

    Complete Collection: $39.99 - $11 for one month (at yearly rate) = 28.99
    Prepurchase: $29.99

    It's an even better deal if you want the extra goodies pack (that'd be an extra $6.99 you have to spend on top of the 29.99). It's not a huge difference, but if you're fine waiting a month, then it's the better deal.
  13. It appears the patch today fixed the name of the emote, it'd now be:

    /macro NAME "em none$$cce 0 ccenergymorph"

    You can generally work around this by going into the CoH installation directory (C:\Program Files\City of Heroes on 32bit Windows, C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes on 64bit Windows), right clicking on cityofheroes.exe (the extension might be hidden) -> Properties -> Compatibility -> click Change settings for all users -> select Disable desktop composition -> OK to all the dialogs.

    This worked for the people in the last thread about this issue, so it'll likely work for you, without making any system-wide changes.

    (I'd personally just recommend switching to Windowed mode instead)
  15. If you want the Dual Pistols & Demon Summoning early, you have to buy the extra perks separately (there's only one pre-purchase). You can buy the perk pack from the NCSoft store that comes with the Complete version for $6.99, once GR is released.

    It's sooooo obvious when you don't quote or make any direct references

    And even still, there's nothing wrong with saying people should be considerate enough to avoid screwing other people over (they paid for the game and subscription fee, after all, if they want to use it to implore others to reduce lag, that's their prerogative).

    Next time I'm teaming with you, I'll be sure to spam Grant Invisibility on everyone when you're attempting to escort a hostage out of the mission.
  19. You might want to take a look at Mid's Hero Designer for planning out and experimenting with builds.

  21. See the article on paragonwiki.

    The formula is:
    RechargeTime = BaseRechargeTime / ( 100% + Buffs - Debuffs )

    So filling in the blanks...
    RechargeTime = 100 / 100% + 10 - 0)
    90.909 = 100 / 100% + 10 - 0)

    With 2 +10%s...
    RechargeTime = 100 / 100% + 20 - 0)
    83.333 = 100 / 100% + 20 - 0)

    There's also a cap of 500% (or +400%) recharge.
  22. It depends entirely on how much you're willing to spend. Just because the link was handy, if you're wanting to spend about $200, this thread might be useful. je_saist usually recommends ATI at most every price point, so that thread stood out to me

    To disable the automatic restart, go to the Start menu -> Control Panel -> System -> click Advanced System Settings -> click the Advanced tab -> click Settings... under Startup and Recovery -> uncheck Automatically restart -> OK.

    Edit: Looks like you're on Windows XP... in which case, I believe what you'd do would be... Start menu -> Control Panel -> System -> Advanced tab -> Settings... under Startup and Recovery -> then uncheck Automatically. restart -> OK.

    It'd help if you at least linked to the last thread, since I'm confused about the situation Post a new CoH Helper and HiJack This log?
  24. Instead of screwing around with trying to convert XML into RSS, you could just use Cox Server Monitor, which is a dedicated gadget that monitors that feed. I wrote the original version quite a while back, and then Fleeting Whisper took that piece of crap and improved it.

    Loading... still

    If the machine came with any sort of skinning application (I've heard Alienwares often come with them), try setting it so that it won't skin cityofheroes.exe. You could also try going into cityofheroes.exe's Properties -> Compatibility section and adjusting some of the options (especially Disable desktop composition or Disable visual themes).
