Updated character generator?

I've been playing CoH for 6 years and I love the game. But, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that the character generator feels dated.

For me, the most exciting part about the immersive experience is the customization of the character generator -- to be able to create my own heroes and then set them free in the game. Small details matter to me when creating characters. The choice of a face, the patterns, the costume materials, etc.

Although there have been additions to the creator over time, I feel like a the generator needs a face lift. More options for customization in all categories.

In the time since CoH was launched, other games have been entered the market and have similar character builders. Clearly they've learned from CoH, and in some cases, surpassed it.

Any plans for a major upgrade to the builder?

Not that we've been informed of per se, but there are frequent releases of new costume pieces and textures; and the recent addition of being able to customize your power GFX.

COH has just been murdered by NCSoft. http://www.change.org/petitions/ncso...city-of-heroes

Well, I've not been playing as long as you, but in the time I have been playing the CC has had several updates, and a quite a few additions.

Of the other MMO's I've tried/played I've yet to see a CC surpass ours. Many tout that 'other' superMMO's CC, but I've used it, and found it clunky and un-intuitive.

Edit: I find our own CC well organized and easy to use, but I'd like to see the ability to have asymmetrical costume parts for the arms and legs (not limited to just cyborg arms.)

I don't really see many ways in which the creator could be improved (heck, moving tails to lower body, allowing a tail+belt made many of my dreams come true already).

So other than some tidying up (there is very little difference between "Head>Standard" and "Head>Masks with hair" would be nice to just consolidate the two (read: losing none of the unique options from either)), and giving a little love to things like; medieval helms, full helms, armoured upper/lower body, and monsterous heads/feet...

While I would love to be able to customize faces a little more, I think anything too beyond what we have right now might require a rather massive amount of work for too little payoff.. although might be a nice "spare time" project or stretch goal...

Second Life's character editor gives far greater control than City of Heroes', but at the cost of being much harder to use.

You've lost me. We just had a major update to it.

CO has a few nice features I'd like to see added to CoX, and none of those are anything surprising: Asymmetric items, leg pieces, back items. CO's costume editor was impressive for a few minutes, until I realized how little options there were (most looked like they came straight from CoH Issue 0- literally). CoX's item collection is FREAKING MASSIVE, no game compares in any way shape or form. Of course, that's no reason to not improve... but continue to show everybody that no one can even hope to compete.

I'm not sure "whipping out Photoshop and Blender" is adequately described as "much harder". SL is also really quite a different beast than CoX, in that SL is more so a 3D development environment than... anything.
