It's just the normal inital issue quirks, unfortunately. They should be worked out fairly quickly.

Quote:If that's true, that definitely sucks! Although, I'm not sure I believe that... I've fairly certain I was on a trial, leading the league, and had a new person pop up on a new team, way after we started...I've been told that "join in progress" only works if the Trial has dropped below the minimum number of people to start the Trial.
Quote:I'm impressed Kitsune. We did it with 16 peeps 3 times and all were pretty easy, but it seemed like dropping below a critical threshold would have lost it. We got all 10 acid bombs on my team each time, and the team teleported to help the other 8 person team get all grenades. With that momentum we hit the last boss fight hard. And still, each time, it was real hard to drop his health bar, couple times in 2 diff runs I saw his health creep back up. Does he scale with team size? I am just finding it hard to see how a 9 person random team can compete with a 16 person team ( 3 diff team makeups, very similar fight ) for damage. I do believe you did it, I just do not understand. -
Quote:Keep the LFG window somewhere on your screen that's fairly close to where you're paying attention. Although, I think most of the time, it's because the person isn't paying attention to where that window is on their screen... such as being alt-tabbed out or AFK... when alt-tabbed out, I try to position the LFG window to be in a spot that I can still see... so far that's worked well for me.So the little window people have to click yes to enter a trial... any way to make that alot more visible? I think there's alot of laggers who just don't see the message.
Maybe adding an (optional) really loud sound, that'd even play if CoH is in the background, would be a good addition... -
A 'memory leak' in the new launcher shouldn't cause anything at all like that. A couple things to try:
Close the NCSoft Launcher (exit out of it completely, make sure it isn't in the system tray!), then start the game manually:[list][*]Press the Windows key on your keyboard (usually situationed between one of the sets of Alt & Control... the one with the little flag) and while holding it, press R on your keyboard, then release both.[*]In the run dialog box that just appeared, copy and paste the following bold string of text that corresponds with the version of Windows you're running:
If running 32bit Windows, using the default installation path: C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.exe -project coh
If running 64bit Windows, using the default installation path: C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\cityofheroes.exe -project coh[*]See if you've got any issues still!
If you still see the issue, it's pretty safe to say it's unrelated to the NCSoft Launcher. Now, if the issue goes away, I'd suggest changing the NCSoft Launcher's setting to automatically exit upon launching the game (might as well anyways), which would hopefully work around your issues. -
Ah, yep, all those skinning apps tend to cause issues with CoH (oddly enough, I ran one for a good while and never had an issue... I likely was an exception). You should be able to set 'cityofheroes.exe' to be on some sort of exclude list, which should prevent any problems from occurring, while still allowing the skinning.

Quote:I've done it with 9, and it wasn't that hard. We didn't even have an ideal team or anything... just half the team had previously failed and ended up getting put back together, so we knew our mistakes and worked together well (despite it being a total cluster [censored] the first time through).
I know this is getting into another topic, but they need to fix the LFG so that it loads with 16 for the Lambda. Because unless you are Stan Lee and his Coterie you ain't doing it w/ 8.
It doesn't seem, though, that the 'willing to join in progress events' (or something) button seems to really work that often... I'll know runs are going on, and have that ticked (I always leave it on), and I only get put on a new one instead... -
Quote:Take Paragonwiki, for one. Back when it was hosted by Wikia, people frequently found pages including malware trying to infect their system... it was likely Wikia itself wasn't doing it, but they apparently didn't really mind that their advertisers were (or more so, their advertisers were letting their customers)!
Limiting your browsing to "respectable sites" is sadly no longer good enough; so many of them end up compromised via SQL injection, 3rd party advertising providers, XSS or just shoddy security that even visiting "safe" sites can be dangerous these days.
And if you ever WiFi with anything short of WPA encryption (WEP is useless, so is MAC filtering), anyone around would have no trouble injecting anything they want into your pages (except for SSL pages... assuming they don't have the keys from the Comodo hack, or any number of other times a CA totally screwd up!).
Security requires defense in depth. No layer can possibly prevent every attack- with layers like Antivirus being probably the LEAST useful out of all the layers! But, unfortunately, most of the other layers are disabled/defeated by the users themselves (such as disabling your firewall, choosing weak passwords, not updating the system, not updating your web browser, web browser plugins, web browser extensions, etc, and going to shady websites). -
It's due entirely to the online store being down. Beyond the first 12 slots, all the others the game needs to contact the online store to figure out how many slots you have.
Most likely this issue is due to the store freaking out with Issue 20 that occurred... I'm waiting patiently to make two characters! A DM/Regen Stalker, and most likely a Fire/Rad Corruptor... And by 'patiently', I mean 'plotting to break into Paragon'... -
Quote:Just an FYI, now you don't have to do level 50 content (and never had to do TFs!) to get shards, which can be convereted over to Threads, thanks to Issue 20. There's some confusion whether -1s and lower will give shards as well, but you can definitely get them long as you're fighting even cons or higher, long as you're capable of getting shards at all.
You had to grind out level 50 TF's for them -
Have you tried restarting CoH? Could be an issue on the client side...
-
I've not had any issues. I also originally selected the 'new' UI (found it way too big), and switched back to "Classic". Not been prompted except on first login.
-
The CPU is extremely good (SandyBridge is damn good), and you've got adequate RAM for CoH (I'd recommend against ever buying less than 4GB of RAM these days*). The HD is quite large, so you'll have more than enough disk space. Throw in a good video card, and that thing will just slaughter Ultra Mode no problem.
* except in special cases, which this isn't. -
Quote:I think you screwed up and confused The_Spad_EU and IYou probably could have apologized a little better, since it was you who jumped down the OPs throat. It wasn't obvious, as you saw from the response where she said she hasn't been playing long enough to know things like how long Purple recipes have been in the game.
I was the one that originally brought up that fact. I believe you owe The_Spad_EU an apology (at least if you don't want to be a hypocrite
).
As for what I said, I don't believe I've any reason to apologize. I said saying X is silly, then said why, and then went on to say "I get the point that you're trying to say he's not knew" (woo! misspelled 'new'). If you have thin skin and tend to put your emotions into what other people write on the internet (since it's quite hard to convey emotion via text... hence why I so frequently use emoticons... less often now than in the past, but still).
Quite frankly, when you're dealing with low probability occurrences, these types of things are to be expected. -
Enhancements drop rate (although kind depends on level), Inspirations, Vanguard Merits, Salvage, and Recipes also don't drop more frequently when fighting higher con enemies (or less frequently when fighting lower con enemies).
If anything, XP, Inf, and Tickets are the oddballs! -
Touché!
That confirms it: Shards were replaced with gumdrops in i20! -
That's vague enough that I think it warrants some testing... The patch notes have a history if being misleading when they don't explicitly state something
-
Here's a horrifying thought: 16 /Rad Controllers at max Incarnate level.
I can envision them just /em dancing the entire time you're supposed to be sabotauging, then wait until there's 1 minute left (to get the largest army as possible around our little friend!), and then all running in, with capped recharge, defense, resistance, and who knows what else, all dropping their debuffs on Marauder, flooring his Resistance, Defense, Damage, and Regeneration, and then 16 Tier 4 Judgements... leaving them with enough time to have a tea party on the sea of corpses! -

Quote:ParagonWiki is now, with the launch of i20, out of date in that regard. With i20, once you have your alpha slot unlocked, any enemies that could give you rewards (i.e. inf, work off debt, etc) has a chance to drop shards. Can't say about PvP specifically for sure, but you should be able to get them in any zone... although I highly doubt their drop rate is CLOSE to good enough to make up for the horribly low kill rate you'll have.In any case, my first question today is about Incarnate Shards. On the ParagonWiki page I noticed that one of the highest drop rates from them is from players in PvP. That page also states that it will only drop from lv 50 mobs - as such, does this mean that Recluse's Victory is the only PvP area where getting Incarnate Shards is possible? Do they drop in Arena?
Quote:My second question is also about Incarnate Shards. With enough playtime, are these simple enough or still very difficult to get a hold of, outside of dedicated sources for them such as the ATF and TMTF? I'm keen to get my Alpha slot as strong as possible ASAP, and while I'm well aware that it isn't supposed to be easy it'd help if I knew how much time I should be dedicating to getting ATF/TMTF/Hamidon groups going. Also, do they drop in AE missions? I'm guessing not, but if they did that'd be sweet. =P
Quote:My final question is about fighting mobs at 50 in general. Given that there are no recipes over lv 50, is there any point at fighting at positive combat levels, instead of even combat level? While I'm aware that you get more inf per kill for higher levels, and can get 51 or higher SOs, they don't seem like significant reasons compared to the ease and speed that even level gives you. But of course, I'm relatively new, so I might be missing something. -
Yep, and the problem is magnified by the fact that most people attempting the trial will be running with under a full team on each side. My best run had only 9 people, and we plowed through the Training area fast enough that our section of the team helped the other half finish the last 2 in the other area.
We immediately shut down all the portals (resulting in Marauder not having an obscenely large army surrounding him... or any army at all for that matter!), and we had enough pacification grenades to keep him down while we killed him (IIRC, a couple people branched off to get another a couple times while we were fighting him, since it did take us a while).
---
On my last run, we started fighting the mob in the training section, and I suddenly realized we were trying to take down the War Walker and it was taking about a minute just for the War Walker! At that point, I was like 'just ignore the mobs, lets move!' and ran off, got to the next one, called it out, popped a bunch of purples and started trying to solo it (fortunately that was enough to pull the rest of my group to me).
Once these are regularly run with Incarnates with 5 powers, it'll likely become a lot easier... I wouldn't be surprised if by the end people are able to just clear that entire thing... and then purposely leave the portals open for a challenge. -
I've done Lambda several times now, and, from my experience, it seems like the groups that try to fight are the ones that end up getting only 2 or so of the items.
Fighting the level 54s, from what I've seen, ends up consuming far too much time, resulting in hardly any of the items you really need to win (at least until people have their Incarnate powers and are lvl 53s). And it's not that hard to just run through it, I was doing it on a Fire Controller (while running Hot Feet... oops!) with Super Jump and no stealth and didn't really have too much issue.
Kill primarily, the rest of the stuff is merely a distraction. -
Quote:Saying he's been playing for 7 years is rather silly, since purples haven't existed for close to that long! I get the point that you're trying to say he's not knew, but... PRNG will be random, as your very title suggests. I've been playing since long before Purples and have only gotten either 3 or 4 (all crap ones). And, likely, the only reason I've gotten that many is I've spent a lot of time farming (mostly with friends in the past... running different maps padded up with only 3 people actually fighting).I have no idea if he is playing at the x8 setting but he has played for 7 years and has multiple 50s that he is always running.
Every time I have gotten one I was on a team, the last time was with a level 10 character.
If he's been mostly on teams on his 50s, and doesn't play his 50s a huge amount or exemplars a lot... that could quite reasonably explain why he's not getting them... along with random being random. -
Quote:Do not forget that you are running an operating system that is not even supported by the makers of that operating system (and they supported it for an obscenely long amount of time already!). You can upgrade, you just don't want to.I am having the exact same issue. I do not want to update my service pack to 3, so I guess that they will not charge me while I cannot play the game?? I am sure they will not want to take money from someone that they, through their actions, have just disabled from logging on.
The patch will likely be out in the next few days. -
Quote:You're on XP Service Pack 2- right now when you launch the game you should be getting an error that says "The procedure entry point GetLogicalProcessorInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.". Either upgrade to Service Pack 3 (which you really should do, as SP2 is no longer supported by Microsoft... and hasn't, for nearly a YEAR), or wait until the patch re-adds support for the obsolete OS.
