Quote:Oh but I wrote that you can make horrible choices in 'srs bsness arena PvP'. No matter how you build a dark armor, Dual Pistols or an Assault Rifle toon, it won't be very competitive. And i13 made popular PvP builds like Ice/EM Tankers underwhelming (again, in competitive pvp) because of the defense nerf in Ice Armor's case.I was talking about Arctypes like Fire/fire tanker, mace/Ice tanker and so on, I mean Arctype can be customize to fit any means and it really don't matter in pvp/pve what arctype you play, you can make anything work. I Played for Year with a Martial Art/Regen
in pvp and always kick butt
Btw MA/Regen was always considered a good build for general pvp (I had a buddy who kicked butt with his MA/Regen before i13 - it's just that I didn't try i13 pvp much because my toons would have to be significantly changed and I was already in the process of leaving the game), but from what I've read (since I don't play regen) after i13, two of the most recommended primaries for PvP for scrappers are fire melee and MA (Spines was great in i12, I don't know now). So MA is considered a great primary even among the 'elite' PvP guys, and /regen is the secondary that, according to them, 'you almost never die if you play it right', on Scrappers and Stalkers. -
Thanks a lot for the offer G_G, I'll probably assemble a Moonfire on my fm/shield tho (haven't had time to play in the last 4 days :/ ). But hey if you play on Virtue I have a 24 DB/Elec who could use the help, although she doesn't have end issues after SOs... yaknow, Energize, DB is kinda light on end and at 35 I'll have Power Sink.
For now I think I'll end up trying (emphasis on TRYING) to avoid my altoholism (is that a word?) and level only my fm/sd because I have much less time to play nowadays than I had before.
lol @ you Aluminum_Dave, vampires even glitter in daylight, haven't you watched the masterpiece vampire movie Twilight? -
Thank you Silas!
Man I don't know how you managed to put kinetic crashes in Gale in such a tight build as you said in the guide lol. But seems like a fun combo although I'm not even level 16 yet for Freezing Rain, although I'm familiar with most Storm powers, had a Storm/Elec defender a long time ago... She was deleted right before Tornado because I couldn't stand the low damage anymore (elec + defender = lol) so I never used Tornado or L. Storm, but I'll get there. -
Hmm not a very good attempt I guess. Good defs (32% s/l, 30% e/n, 24% melee, 23.5% ranged, again ignoring Hover which I won't use in combat), more maxhp, almost the same maxend (111 now vs 114, before accos), but global acc, recovery and recharge took a hit, I think my acc in CoF is bad now, and Smite and SL have less endredux lol.

Thanks Des. I didn't have end issues in my live build (I think she only has the TF commander accolade), but in addition to the health uniques she has no tough/weave and runs Oppressive Gloom, I had CoF for a brief period of time when she was still on SOs and ditched it after experiencing OG, but I want to try a different path to renew my interest in the toon. At least Atlas Medallion I can get quickly at 50...
And about playstyle I always let D. Shroud do its work especially after a good Soul Drain and focused on the hard targets, I've always ignored minions because of O. Gloom and D. Shroud. I don't even understand when people say DA is squishy, last time I respecced her (i12) I remember I decided against Tough because I didn't die in an ITF and later ran several invincible arcs solo in Cimerora to see if I could handle the s/l damage. I chose Cimerora also because the mobs are resistance to KD and my live build has a 5 Crushing Impact slotted Air Sup, which always helped me against bosses because of my lack of def and no Tough. But she did well in Cim at the time.
Anyway I'll try planning a build for typed defenses, I don't care about f/c def in any toon I have, even my dm/ea stalker so it may be a good approach to build for s/l and e/n. I tried for positionals because I find it better for global recharge bonuses (although I'm looking at the build now and realizing I'm only at 18% ranged but 22.5% s/l, 20% e/n and 28% melee defs with Hover turned off so maybe I won't have to change a lot of things to get 5% extra energy).
Worst case scenario I guess I can just toggle Tough/Weave off when needed, I don't want to go with a P. Perfection build till I get more accolades because I found the build way more fun after epics with a ranged blast and the Tentacles -
Well it would be nice to slot your first attacks with accuracy and damage. Since I know nothing about regen except that you'd better go for 25%+ positional defenses and 50%+ global recharge, I won't try to build something, but you have wonky slotting all over the build.
Oh and don't skip Moment of Glory, put 3 recharges in it, maybe a LotG unique too. That's all I know about regen. -
Check out the build Fury Flechette posted here, she's really good with this stuff.

Sooo my second toon to get to 50 in i10 was a DM/DA scrapper. After i12.5 I went to redside and barely touched my heroes, my DM/DA is well IO'ed out but has no Tough/Weave and Siphon Life is slotted like 1 acc + 3 Numinas, she still has Shadow Punch, etc, haven't touched her after the DM changes.
I'm thinking about changing her to a defense+fear build (she has OG now) and I'm wondering if this build is sustainable because I'm bad with this stuff especially since I'm almost always teaming.
Hover wouldn't be toggled on in combat, it's just there for the LoTG+kismet (might replace it for a Karma -KB if the build is not broken in end usage) and because she's my only flying toon and I wanted to keep the 'concept'. I might also replace something with Hasten (the live build has it) but I'm curious if this build is viable, I think it has good recovery but the end usage looks horrid to me.
Thanks!

The last update had a Warning not to update from within the program and download it from the website.
I though 'bah', ignored the warning, updated from the program and it was all bugged. Then I just downloaded the program again from cohplanner.com and everything went back to normal. -
If you turn off the FF proc in HoB, you'll see that in your setup Build Up takes forever to recharge. It deserves another Rech IO (you could take the stealth IO from CJ and put it in Sprint, or in a veteran sprint if you have them and don't want your toon transparent everytime you toggle Sprint). And the FF proc is more useful on Bullet Rain or Empty Clips, since you can use these powers much more frequently than HoB.
I capped damage and rech on HoB, capped damage on T. Strike and got better end and rech numbers, and replaced the Aegis with Titanium Coatings for more HP because you don't have even 10% defense to anything in the build, and less than 20-25% to some type won't make any meaningful difference, and other tweaks like making BU recharge's decent, some +maxhp bonuses on P.Sink and Stamina...
I don't see why so many -recharge procs but since you seem to like them I left them there except in Bullet Rain where I put the FF +rech (some powers can take cheap and nicer procs imo like explosive strike, lady grey...). I hate the Entropic Chaos set but if it's the only way to get recharge on your blasts it's okay especially with all your acc bonuses.
Btw you have one 9% acc bonus too many, I didnt change that because I'm sleepy and can't think of anything else now.
Hope it helps

Rush is probably talking about the tier 9 power in /Poison, Noxious Gas, which wouldn't work on other ATs because you use it by 'infecting' one of your henchmen with it, and the affected henchman applies the debuffs and hold on the enemies.
Kinda like MM traps, which has Detonator (also cast on one of your henchmen) while Corr and Defender's Traps get Time Bomb. -
Silas great guide as usual. Since you have an ice/stormie could you please comment on my build? Don't think I'll return to redside soon but I got a lowbie and a planned build (which I modified some with your advice) - went for recharge, recovery and +hp, tried +dam but failed

Quote:Oopsie, my bad. Now I remember in the announcement that trollers had this already. Shame on me for having two 50 IO'ed out trollers (mind/emp and fire/kin both leveled the hard way) and not remembering this, but well I left for 1 year and change and was having fun with corrs, doms and stalkers in the last 9 months I playedActually, as a minor point of order: Controllers have ALWAYS had this (at least, since ED iirc), but there was NO INDICATION of it. Now we get the "overpowered" message to show that it happened =)
-
Honestly, in 24 months playing before I left right after i14, I had exactly TWO distressing moments. And my playtime was like 85% Freedom / 15% Virtue.
The Freedom one was on a PUG Hess TF where the leader started arguing with a team member and nobody understood why (the team was doing fine). Then the leader kicked the guy, his buddy quit the TF because of this and for no apparent reason the leader herself quit shortly after. That left 3 of us in an 6-man mission with an AV... an Ice tanker, my mind/emp and a Ta/A def, we just couldn't finish the TF, couldn't handle the AV spawned for 6, especially since there was no SSK and both the tanker and the Ta/A def were sidekicked to the ones who quit. But hey, that's one person that freaked out and nobody knew the reason.
The Virtue one was on some story arc in the 20s where the leader thought he was leading a MoSTF. The Tanker was a bit slow so I started taking the alpha on my spines/dark and the energy blaster followed. We had no support and neither of us died, but the guy got angry because 'scrappers shouldn't take alphas' and 'the blaster shouldn't control the KB'. We tried to 'behave' but he went on annoying the blaster because of the KB (and he wasn't going nuts with Energy Torrent), I got annoyed waiting for the Tanker (he was really slow, I wasn't in scrapperlock, after all I had barely hit SOs) so both me and the blaster quit.
In another team there was a regen scrapper who dove on every pink mob before everybody else and died all the time, and kept yelling at my mind/emp to 'HEAL ME HEAL ME'. The leader thought I was doing a good job and kicked the scrapper.
And that's it, both my Freedom and Virtue experiences are very positive, including crazy stuff like a PUG Dr. Q TF that lasted 7 hours and we finished, in the end there were still 6 of us.
I don't consider myself a l33t player, but this game isn't hard (ok I found PvP quite hard but only did some arena kickballs where I felt lost and spent a lot of time in SC which I didn't find hard, and RV I had both good and very bad moments, but that was in i12, didn't bother trying i13 PvP because I'd have to change my builds a lot, and my ice/psi dom who relied in holds and slows isn't that effective now).
I've even received a lot of friend requests because I was told I was a 'great leader' and I don't think I was anything special leading teams. Even on Freedom SFs I assembled with my lolStalker (as I called my beloved Stalker before the i12 buff) I got friend requests in the end, and Stalkers were subpar on teams imo before the buff. -
There's also the 'Overpower' thing, not sure when it was added because I left right after i14 began and just returned (plus I was playing only redside for the last months before my comeback), so not sure you experienced it. Basically, for a ST hold like Dominate:
- +22.35s Held (mag 3) PvE only
- +16.763s Held (mag 1) (20% chance) PvE only
From the epics, WoC sucks but is a good mule for the confuse purple set if you don't have a confuse power (plus with the purple confuse proc the power sucks less)., RoTP is a self rez like the Fiery Aura power, ET and Frost Breath are moderate damage cones and seismic smash is a wonderful high-damaging melee ST attack with a mag 4 hold attached - with containment a damage capped /kin can do like 1k damage with it. Also great for other trollers because it's such a powerful hold and a great ST attack. -
Thanks a ton for the answers guys! I'll do moonfire then, I like TFs and haven't done blueside TFs for a long time (except for a recent Synapse, and well before I left I was doing lots of ITFs on my vills and taking my mind/emp out for the occasional MoSTF because she was requested sometimes by my Brazilian coalition because they called me a great 'healer', although I barely used heals except in the final encounter... I used mostly controls and buffs, but I don't mind the label lol, found it funny. I think I'm still sick of the STF even after the long break).
And Striga itself is a good place to level and get drops because there are lots of white-con banished pantheons that give me good salvage like Dark Astoria (and fire melee just destroys them). The problem is that even a white wolfie can hit hard at this level, I killed some orange bosses there but when they hit me.. ugh. When I had a couple small purps I could kill a large mob of yellow and orange doggies but that was not always the case. Should be easy at level 27 with Incinerate slotted up a bit and the wolves being green-blue to me.
I couldn't find vampyri because I didn't know they showed up at night, thanks for the info.
But anyway, even though it's a nice way to get drops and level, TFs are funnier, I've always enjoyed teaming, I just didn't remember the exact TF, I thought it was Citadel or Manticore. I'll check out the freedom TF channels, although assembling a PUG TF in Freedom is not hard at all, unlike many ppl my PUG experiences there were mostly positive (even did a PUG Dr. Q a long time ago and in the end there were still 6 of us).
And thanks for the welcoming G_G! -
Quote:He did say he wants to do TFs with his fire/kin. I find SB essential, if you pick it at 20 you can have it available on all TFs, and picking it at 22 you'll have it on all but Posi.Unless, like every other kin he's trying to avoid the "SB Please, SB please" problem that you can have.
Also, if he's not going to team why bother with it, it does NOTHING for you solo.
OP, when I played my f/k I used a leadership build I posted on the other thread ('I like to get held' something like that)... But I have a tough/weave build planned, it has some expensive IOs (Absolute Amazements weren't expensive when I bought then), but it can be modified for your needs, this one is softcapped to s/l but I found that whan I had 30% s/l def, no LOTGs, no uniques (except for the steadfast I bought ASAP and put it in Increase Density in my leadership build) and Stupefy instead of the purp set it was already more than enough to farm BM and do all TFs:

When I played my fire/kin, my concern was to make a build that was suitable both for farming and general teaming. With my live build, I managed to do both, including STFs and ITFs without dying, just don't use the same approach you would have on a BM farm when the mobs are arachnos or Rikti, on ITFs you can even go a bit crazy and take alphas until you get debuffed if you have decent s/l def. My live build is at 38% s/l def and uses leadership to help teams, imps, plus it still manages to have perma capped HP thanks to EE+Hasten and the /kin powers I find necessary (Tranfs, SB, ID - although I don't find ID as fundamental as SB and the rest). And totally capable of BM farming.
And as Local Man wrote, I don't think 20% resists will help your imps much. And I'd never, ever skip SB on a teaming build, the recharge bonus is great for Tankers (especially Stoners) and toons with debuffs/buffs on long timers even when IO'ed out like emps, therms, colds, plus the recovery+recharge allows blasters and corrs to go crazy on their AoEs, that usually have high end costs and cannot be abused so much even if the build is somewhat decently IOed.
If I hadn't gotten tired of my fire/kin, I'd have improved his build to softcap s/l and get decent-ish melee def, while keeping the powers I like (my live build is almost like the one below, but I miss some KCombats to cap s/l def and I have Posi Blast in Fissure instead of Ragnarok because I don't care about the toon anymore, I just returned and have been playing lowbies and leveling a fm/sd for less click-intensive farming). I have a tough/weave version planned too but I prefer leadership:

I returned to the game a week ago, after one year and some, and I'm chasing Atlas Medallion.
Since the last 9 months I played were on redside, I don't remember the best way to kill 200 warwolves and 200 vampyrii, I have done all the other stuff I need to get the accolade.
I'm a 25 fm/sd scrapper so the mobs in Striga are still a bit hard for me since the wolves hit really hard and they are usually orange/red.
There's a TF that speeds up that process, right? I don't remember.
Thanks for any help! -
Damn Thirty Seven, you forgot the 'feircely' in the end
j/k, you made me laugh really loudOk I won't post in this thread anymore, let him get his answers and ask again next month why people min/max and use Mids.
-
I had a storm/elec defender that I made because I wanted a 'weather god'. Wind, Storm, Lightning, chaos. Energy Blast can also be colored to look like water, and Ice is a good fit as well.
-
Wow that post was hard to read. Firefox and Google Chrome have built in spell checkers you know. I'm no grammar nazi, English is not my native language but ouch, reading that hurt my brain.
I always played on Freedom and Virtue and never got kicked because of my build, be it a dm/da scrapper, earth/sonic troller, dark/traps corr, em/nin stalker before the stalker buff, dm/ea stalker, whatever. I did PUG and channel TFs with all kinds of group setup and lots of powersets. I've seen a lot of unusual combos in Freedom and Virtue like say, MA/Dark Armor scrappers, Sonic resonance defs and trollers, loads of blasters with /fire, /devices and /ice secondaries and I've teamed with a lot of WSs and PBs, deleted my WS at 35 because I didn't enjoy the playstyle.
Just go hang out in AP in Freedom, there are all kinds of 50s with all types of powersets, same in Virtue's Pocket D.
Been leveling a DB/Elec and a FM/SD scrapper, both are squishy at level 25, and with both I 'tanked' for big teams because I had support. As long as you are a respectful player and don't do stupid stuff like aggro more than the team can handle, you'll be fine in most cases. I've just NEVER been booted because of my build on Freedom or Virtue in 26 months, blue or redside, even when I was playing Stalkers a lot and they were known as 'lolStalkers' (before the i12 buffs).
Freedom has enough variety, it seems you only pay attention to the FOTM builds which will always exist in ANY server.
Then again, I can't say I give you a lot of credibility since I've seen you post that you solo AVs without insps on a SO dark/dark defender and that your Fire/Fire tanker outdamages 'all scrappers'.
And Mid's is a great tool, whether you want to plan a build and IO it up to the wazoo or even just calculate the number of slots you want in each of your powers, especially useful for Warshades and PBs for example. Not everyone is trying to softcap defenses, stop thinking that the scrapper forums is a reflection of the whole game, most of my friends in-game don't even access these boards.
But I saw people telling you all that stuff already and you still question Mid's and say that everyone has the same builds, so either you're a troll or you just refuse to change you view on the subject, so why ask this again?
'Fear of the unknown', L-O-L. Nobody's afraid of trying powersets in this game except for new people who think they might be going for gimped builds with their first toon. After 3 months or so teaming / playing, any reasonable person won't be 'afraid' to try out a new powerset, knowing they can just delete the toon if they don't like it. Well since you fail at understanding basic things like Mid's utility even on SO builds (you don't need to use Mids to at least acknowledge it can be useful), I wouldn't include you in the 'reasonable people' category. And if you don't like Mid's, why do you seem to get bothered by people who use it? Nobody's forcing you to install it.
It's just a little program that helps you manage your slots since they're limited especially on SO/common IO builds without multi-aspect IOs, check if your end costs are okay, if your powers are well slotted for acc/dam/end/rech/whatever, if your set bonuses aren't over the cap in the case of IO builds, if you're chasing the right set bonuses when you wanna build for defense/recharge/regen/recovery/hp/etc, and for me, also a way to try to help people fine-tune their builds when I'm able to offer helpful advice.
No build is gimped except in 'srs business' arena PvP where you can make horrible horrible choices especially with the new system that made so many builds almost useless, like my ice/psi permadom who relied on slows and holds in i12, both are laughable now.
Well you CAN make a gimped build in PvE if you roll a petless MM or an Emp Defender with the Medicine pool and only one attack, but that's the player, not the powersets' fault. -
Reposting W_G's mini guide because the OP's formatting is messed up due to the forum change (and I posted it in a scrapper discussion so I had cleaned it up already
):
On May 28th, 2008 stalkers finally received the Dev love they had so desperately needed. Since this change was relatively undocumented, Im writing up this handy little guide.
The following changes affected both PvP and PvE:
* Increased Stalker Melee damage multiplier from 0.9 base to 1.0 base.
* Increased Stalker Hit Points multiplier from 0.95 to 1.125 (note that the Stalker HP cap is unchanged, and will be reached with only 33.5% extra hitpoints)
* Hide Suppression for Stalkers reduced from 10 seconds to 8 seconds.
* Placate will no longer suppress hide
* Missing an Assassination Strike will not suppress Hide, although other forms of stealth will suppress normally. Note that this only applies when AS misses. A successful AS will still suppress Hide.
In addition to these global changes, there were some PvE only changes:
* A successful Assassin Strike will now Demoralize your enemies. The Demoralize effect has a 30ft radius and will apply an irresistible 7.5% Tohit debuff for 8 seconds. Demoralize also has a 25% chance to apply a mag5 Terrorize for 8 seconds. The target of the AS must survive the attack for the Demoralize to take effect.
* All Stalker attacks now have a chance to crit while not hidden. The base chance is 10%, although some attacks have a higher chance
* In addition to the improved out of hide crit chances, Stalkers now have a scaling crits. For every teammate within 30ft, a Stalker gains an additional 3% crit chance when not hidden. Combined with the improved crit rating, a Stalker can get upwards of a 30% crit rate! -
The renderthread was for when Coh didn't take advantage of dual core processors IIRC, you don't need this anymore.
My shortcut for CoH with no updater is:
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh
That's copied and pasted from the 'Properties' window of my COH shortcut. Basically I just created another shortcut to CityofHeroes.exe and added -project coh at the end. -
EM/Nin. <3 her so much. I like my DM/EA a lot too.
