Hi all,

I have been away from the game since late 2008 due to laptop issues. I just recently logged on, and have no idea what has changed since... Can anyone pls give me a quick update for controllers? I've played a little bit, and noticed the color customization for powers, but that's it.

Thanks..

Well we got Cold Domination in i16... I think that's the only new thing since Plant Control and Thermal Radiation in i12.

Edit: We also got a 5th Power in some Ancillary pools:

Fire Mastery: Rise of the Phoenix
Psionic Mastery: World of Confusion

Issue 13 features.
Issue 14 features.
Issue 15 features.
Issue 16 features.

Also:

It is now possible to purchase Hold, Intangibility, Interrupt Time, Slow and Taunt Duration SO enhancements from the Merit Vendors.

Plant Control Fly Traps pets had resistances buffed

Trick Arrow/Acid Arrow: This power should now correctly display its resistance debuff visual FX.

Trick Arrow/Poison Gas Arrow: This power should now correctly display its damage debuff visual FX.

Fixed many Hold powers that were incorrectly causing targets to use the ‘disoriented’ animation, including Cinder, Block of Ice, Strangler, Fossilize, and Freezing Touch.

Thanks guys!

I guess the question is, has the enjoyment increased or decreased after the fixes? Your satisfaction relative to the other archetypes?

I am kinda excited to return, and it has been so long..

Since several of the pet issues have been fixed, making some of the pets much better. Venus Fly Trap, Animate Stone and Jack Frost in particular. With these fixes and the new sets, Controllers are more fun in my opinion. However, we also had a significant nerf when Pets can no longer receive any benefit from Recharge buffs like Accelerate Metabolism or Speed Boost.

As a result, some more solo-oriented */Kin controllers skip Speed Boost. I wouldn't, but then I always build expecting to team.

Thanks for the update!

Re: the epic powers... any significant changes that I should be aware of? I noticed there is a 5th power available. Any comments on their effectiveness in the pool?

i.e. World of Confusion within Psi, Rise of Phoenix within Fire, Frost Breath within Ice, Energy Torrent within Energy, Sesmic Smash within Earth

I will be all set with your input. Thanks again!

There's also the 'Overpower' thing, not sure when it was added because I left right after i14 began and just returned (plus I was playing only redside for the last months before my comeback), so not sure you experienced it. Basically, for a ST hold like Dominate:

  • +22.35s Held (mag 3) PvE only
  • +16.763s Held (mag 1) (20% chance) PvE only
That means you have a 20% chance of holding a boss (a mag 4 hold), and the word 'Overpower' will appear when it happens. Same for confuse, fear, immobs, stuns, sleeps...

From the epics, WoC sucks but is a good mule for the confuse purple set if you don't have a confuse power (plus with the purple confuse proc the power sucks less)., RoTP is a self rez like the Fiery Aura power, ET and Frost Breath are moderate damage cones and seismic smash is a wonderful high-damaging melee ST attack with a mag 4 hold attached - with containment a damage capped /kin can do like 1k damage with it. Also great for other trollers because it's such a powerful hold and a great ST attack.

World of Confusion -- underwhelming because the AoE is so small. It can be a mule for a cheap purple set, though. I'm tempted to try it with Ice's Arctic Air, but other than that, not much use.

Rise of the Phoenix: Only self-rez available to Controllers, and it does damage, too.

Frost Breath: OK cone, but it makes Ice APP the only set with two AoE damage powers.

Energy Torrent: OK cone, but it doesn't make up for Primal's lack of AoE.

Seismic Smash: The best of the new powers, it is a heavy hitting melee attack with a Mag 3 hold built in. Good for melee characters and characters lacking single-target damage. (Seismic Smash used to be a Mag 4 hold, but that was nerfed.)

Actually, as a minor point of order: Controllers have ALWAYS had this (at least, since ED iirc), but there was NO INDICATION of it. Now we get the "overpowered" message to show that it happened =)

Oopsie, my bad. Now I remember in the announcement that trollers had this already. Shame on me for having two 50 IO'ed out trollers (mind/emp and fire/kin both leveled the hard way) and not remembering this, but well I left for 1 year and change and was having fun with corrs, doms and stalkers in the last 9 months I played

Yeah, that chance for a "critical mez" has been there a loooooong time, but it never showed up in combat logs or gave a visual indication. The "overpower" text was added in I12, same time as they revamped the combat logs to show things like critical mezzes or proc effects.
