  1. I'd be willing to come along for one on one of my many defenders, assuming it was at a time when I could actually dedicate hours and hours and hours to the game. Seems like any time people arrange TFs, they start about 45 minutes before I have to be in bed.

2 +4 Master Illusionists in one spawn followed up by 2 +4 Ring Mistresses in the next make for a VERY bad day for an SR scrapper. I actually got angry at how quickly they tear through Bill Z with their non-positional psi attacks.

And yet I kept going back until the mission was done. Masochism? Maybe. A challenge that before was simply not present? Definitely.
This. I pulled my Brute out to test her difficulty settings last night. ... next thing I knew, it was three hours later and I was in a pile of Rikti up to the aggro cap, cackling. From i1-i15, I probably spent about 40 hours playing every 50 I have combined. This number will probably double within the next month.

    To even the score:

Myth: Somebody once soloed a hero to 50 doing normal, non-zone contact missions without doing 100 pointless, nigh-plotless street hunts.

Fact: He'd forgotten to count ones given in the form of 'Talk to the Security Chief' missions. Counting those, he'd actually done 127 of them.

Some of my favorite moments in the game have been those times. "Everybody stand back! I'm going to drop a tornado, knock them on their butts, and then push the other half into a pit!"

    Replace debt

I really think debt is about where it needs to be right now. As far as XP gain, one death is almost meaningless. If you play poorly/on a higher difficulty than you can take/recklessly, getting multiple deaths in a single mission will slow down your levelling rate noticeably--it doesn't take that many to get up to half a bubble, which is enough to actually be meaningful at most levels without turning into a slog. Die 3 times a bubble at level 49 and that last level is taking about 50% longer.

  7. Hero Slayer. Holy crap. I'd thought this badge was just a myth to scare us types who hate grinding badges.

    What Colors....

My MA/ scrapper now has punches! She's supposed to be more of a street fighter type than a super kung fu type, so they fit her a lot better. I'd been expecting for years that I'd need to reroll her when they finally got around to making a street fighting set, so I'm kinda glad it was handled like this. (On the other hand, I also fear that other long-requested sets might become no more than new animations for existing ones.) I also made the flashes when she hits people dark grey, which makes them a dim white in practice. It makes it look a lot more natural to me.

My Energy/Energy blaster is getting pure white attacks in both pools. No longer must I be envious of the Legacy Chain's ability to shoot white energy!
  9. Another thing: Thanks to the badge number reductions, one of my villains now has Hero Slayer. I didn't think I'd ever get that if I played this game for three decades.

In my (albeit limited) experience, that adds a lot of extra cast time, which can really bog down fights. There is absolutely no fluidity to me.
This has always been my big problem. I generally enjoyed my triform Warshade in theory, but...

HUMAN! Gravitic Emanation. DWARF! Sunless Mire. HUMAN! Sunless Mire. NOVA! Some blasts. HUMAN! Stygian Circle.

Got REALLY REALLY old. It's like the redraw effect on weapon sets times twenty.

This. I use it for a 'Get out of debt free! NOW WITH EXPLOSIONS.' button. It's a rare day indeed that you can't find three of anything to make an Awaken out of.

Defenders can, as long as they have some way of dealing energy or fire damage. This means that they have to be:
    Magic Origin (Apprentice Charm)
    Tech Origin (Taser Dart)
    /Archery (Flaming Arrow)
    /Radiation (Anything)
    /Electric (Anything)
    /Energy (Anything)

This, and the game really isn't so complicated that you need complex instructions to keep a team working together, which is really the one big argument I've seen for it in other games. I don't want to hear you, and you probably don't wanna hear my stammering Woody Allen-esque attempts to talk.
  16. Set up my new fire/rad corruptor just to get her name reserved, since her concept required green fire.

... and then started smashing things. I was trying to find the sweet spot for my characters on the difficulty slider. Findings:

Earth/Fire/Mace Dominator: Haven't quite figured out where she should be yet. She can handle x5/+1/bosses of most enemy groups fairly easily, but Arachnos on that setting kills her about every other mob. I blame Fortunatas and their stupid mezz resistance. The one problem I've run into on other enemy groups is getting Domination up for the first time. It can be a bit touch and go against huge spawns. I expect I'll be going x6-x8 on her for most groups and something half as hard against Arachnos.

Dark/Elec/Mu Brute: ... is actually far more powerful than I thought. I did a few test runs with her versus x4/+0/bosses missions to see how the attack chain I planned for her to use after getting Energize would work, and she was tearing the place up. Her respec just took it to a whole new level (although ironically, her new attack chain helped more than Energize did.) I turned it up to x5/+1/bosses and still didn't run into any problems except a mission of nothing but Bane Spiders, and even that didn't trouble me much once I started tagging the lieutenants with Touch of Fear and remembered to use purple inspirations versus the bosses lest I end up as a toxin-filled red paste. I ended up just sort of smashing things for a few hours straight while cackling. I'll probably crank her difficulty a bit tonight to see just what she can handle.

Dual Blade/Fire Scrapper: Is the opposite. She can't really handle as much as I thought, as a mission of x4/+0/bosses Rikti showed me very quickly. I suspect that just turning off bosses would help a ton, so more testing is called for.

Tonight will be my Rad/Rad Defender, Ice/Psi Dominator, and Thugs/Poison MM.

Once I've adjusted to everything, I might just slaughter repeatable Rikti missions on my brute for a few days at x8 or something. I do enjoy smashing giant mobs of things.

  18. Whoo! Just last night, I was pining for this...
  19. Fire/Rad corruptor with dark green + brown blasts. Makes for great pollution.

But mostly, playing 'just how big of groups can I fight?' on my Earth/Fire permadom and DB/Fire scrapper..

  23. I've been heavily considering a Fire/Earth. Seems like the melee focus of the secondary would go well with Hot Feet + Fire Imps.

Just take Cimerora as an exemple. Usual method (for the teams i like to run) is to have one or two tank/scrapper (buffed if he's not good enough) herding as much romans as they can then just blow up the pile and superspeed to the next one. If the tank needs the survivability, will he survive enough for the /dark to debuff/come and heal at the risk of getting himself killed/fear/whatever ? Not really. That's even worse with a storm, by the time he's done casting debuffs, summoning pets, etc, either half the team will be dead or already in the next room.
I'm basically seeing 'Storm and Dark aren't very useful on the teams my friends and I run.' If your tank is tough and competent enough to handle the alpha and keep the aggro and you only need +offense and some spot healing, you're basically wasting your time with anything but a kin/ to begin with.

For herding, yeah, I wouldn't say either set brings a ton to the table... but I haven't seen herding as a widespread tactic in about four years. For a standard 'me and seven guys that I just met for the first time ever when I invited them to this task force and the tank doesn't have very good resistance to the damage type these guys do and we have four suicidal blasters and oh god there's a patrol heading our way' team, both pull their weight pretty well. As do Forcefield, Cold, Trick Arrow, Sonic, Empathy, Radiation, and Kinetics.

If everybody's smart and has the tactics down and your tank can herd everything and keep almost all of the aggro, take the tank, a FFer, a Kin, and five blasters. For everything else, we have the other defender sets.
