Quote:When I did Field Crafter in Praetoria, it was on a Resistance character. The Resistance auction house is right next to the University, just a quick zone-change away. Also, once you get field crafter (which is what you could put some of that nest egg into) you'll have a lot more recipes/salvage spaces and be able to craft on the go. I was very annoyed that the university and the trading post in Praetoria were about half a mile apart. Even on SS and ninja run character it was almost more time consuming running back and forth, then it was buying up the salvage to craft with.

Quote:1) The number of dots indicates server load. It's a rough measure of number of players: it's possible for a single player or a small group to do something to cause the load to spike, but it's not common. On the Stateside servers, the PvP community has concentrated on Freedom, while the RP community is on Virtue. If you left with i15, then you're familiar with the i13 PvP nerfs, which essentially killed PvP.I'm sure you've had your fair share of these threads and i'm sorry for adding to the equation, however this seems to be the best way to acquire information from a decent source.
I've returned after over a year of being inactive and have played on and off since around 2005 I believe, massing around 2 years game time.
Unfortunately I'm completely out of the loop right now and i wasn't particularly in it when I did actively play and after several days of attempting to figure things out i'm still at a loss as to what I should really do.
So, if you feel like answering any of the below questions or to link me to a relevant thread, it would be much appreciated as i'll take whatever assistance you can offer me.
Questions:
1) Servers. More than I can choose from! I'm currently based on Union and have always been happy there. However I can see there are certainly more players on Virtue and Freedom (Based off of the three circles at the server selection page, which i'm not sure if that dictates server stability or player load); so i'd like to know whether or not it'd be worth moving servers.
I enjoy PvP, general Boss/TF raiding and Role-playing, from what i've read Union is meant to be the 'Unofficial' Role-play server and i'd hate to end up on a server with little to none if all the Role-playing goes down on Union.
2) Is it worth leveling a character from the beginning to get back into the feel of the game? I have a level 50 Fr/Fr Blaster and he has few accomplishments, the player base was little and the requirements high for me to attempt to get into a SG that regularly attempted things like Hamidon, so I've never been able to experience that type of content, could someone like me be apart of any similar activities in this state?
3) Friends! Well, it seems the medium list of friends I made when i played have all moved on to other things, so i'm quite lacking. If any of you decide you'd like to add some more text to your friends list i'm your man!
I'm quite cheerful and entertaining, always up for a laugh whether it's RP, PvP, PvE, badge hunting or casually chatting at *insert landmark here*.
@Resillience
4) Is there anything i'm missing out on? I left the issue after the introduction of the Architect system I think, so while my 50 is sitting and acquiring algae is there anything I should take a look at?
5) Should I level another character, is the best way to level still at the Architect building? Standing in there and advertising until I had a group seemed to be protocol then and the Xp/Hr was very desirable, is this still the case?
I think those are the important things right now, I used to spend most of the time chatting at Atlas or Pocket D and many people, especially the
Role-playing side enjoyed my company, but with all that gone i'd like to do something about it now and get well into the community before I get bored and lonely.
Ontop of the friends thing, a SG wouldn't be amiss, i'll look into that more deeply later on but for now i'll leave a little sidenote that I am looking if anyone is interested.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can give me some insight and happy gaming.

2) If you left with i15, then there probably haven't been any major changes to gameplay that you'll need to get used to: you know about Enhancement Diversification, the Global Defense Nerf, and the invention system. Leveling a new character vs. picking up your old one is your choice, though if you want to PvP, you may need to create a new character: the i13 changes mean very few builds are viable these days.
3) After you pick a server, join the global chat channels for that server. That's where most of the teaming is organized, and where you'll meet people to talk to. On Virtue, at least, non-mission roleplay takes place mostly in Pocket D, with some under the statue of Atlas. I'm not familiar with Union.
5) If you want to powerlevel, AE is the best way. It's nowhere near as fast as it used to be; the main advantage now is that you can find a mission tuned to your character's strengths and weaknesses. Most powerleveling is done solo: there's a new difficulty system that lets you get enemy groups sized for any team size: you don't need to look for fillers if you want to face eight-man groups. Most AE teaming is done in Atlas blueside, Cap redside, and occasionally cross-faction in the Rikti War Zone.
Three changes you'll want to look at: the new difficulty adjustment system, the super-sidekicking system, and the removal of level gating on hazard zones. No more sidekick tetris, no more looking for fillers, and you can go to almost any zone starting from level 1. -
Note that the Talos masks only spawn if you go there at night. If you go there during the day, you may find some left over from someone else going by at night, but once you defeat them, no more will spawn until the next night.

Quote:"She", and yes, that's what I mean. With all the attacks being thrown around by six bots, plus damage-dealing traps, plus the occasional personal attack, I'd never be able to pick out the source of any particular 5% debuff.I think he means that it's a damage debuff that stacks with the debuff from seekers. Near as I can tell (from my limited unscientific testing) seeker drones are bugged with regards to procs of all types. I did some experimentation with a chance to hold IO and never once saw it proc.
-
The damage debuff stacks quite nicely with things like Seeker Drones on my bots/traps: I can hit 90% damage debuff against Pylons and other hard targets, which really boosts survivability.

Quote:XP boost is probably exactly like the current vet reward: you redeem it, and get ten bars of patrol XP. You still need to go out and beat things up if you want to turn that into levels.XP Boost sounds like sacrilege to me, in any way shape or form. The fact that such a thing will exist in any way to me foreshadows being able to fork over real life cash for XP at some point. I know it's not the same thing, and I'm being extreme, but it's definitely a step in that direction and it doesn't sit well with me. This is the first thing about COH Freedom that has rubbed me the wrong way.

Sister Psyche will be casually killed and stuffed in the fridge by a brand-new villain to establish him as a bonafide threat. When Manticore finds her, he'll go on a futile roaring rampage of revenge, butchering a number of not-entirely-innocent bystanders in the process. He'll be thrown out of the Freedom Phalanx for his actions, and will spend his time cutting his way across the Rogue Isles in the search for his wife's killer. Sister Psyche will quietly vanish from the story, except when everyone needs a reminder of why Manticore went bad.
A few years from now, when everyone's forgotten about her, Sister Psyche will be brought back from the dead in an appropriately ham-fisted way. It's how comic books work, after all. -
Quote:We've got our answer in this thread. Premium players can access the market once they've thrown $105 at NCSoft; they get access to the invention system at $390.The one possible speed bump I see is exactly HOW restricted access to inventions/the market is for Free/VIP players once Freedom hits.

Quote:If you can pack enemies together, Assault Bot wins with the massive AoEs it can put out. If you've got some form of anti-knockback (you might be able to put Electrifying Fences on auto and have your pet mastermind target through you), it'll be even better. The Arsonist from Thugs also puts out large amounts of AoE damage, but it's far less durable.1)What MM pet does the most Damage on it's own? Looking at Mid's and Red Tomax, it looks like Demon's and Bot's are the best. My only concern with bots is the KB, which would slow down farming a bit. So I'm leaning more towards Demons at the moment, but everyone seems inclined that Bots do the most damage and are the best.
Quote:2)What secondary would be good for farming purposes?
/FF has Dispersion Bubble as a good toggle (protect the pets from AoE splash damage), but doesn't have a good autopower. You could put Insulation Shield on auto for more AoE protection.
/Traps may sound a bit odd, but putting Acid Mortar on auto will give you a 20% AoE resistance debuff, and Forcefield Generator only requires summoning every four minutes.
If you're willing to wait for i21, /Sonic will give you a resistance toggle in Sonic Dispersion, a resistance debuff toggle in Disruption Field, and Sonic Siphon would work as an autopower giving a single-target resistance debuff. -
Quote:There are two types of ambushes: player-targeted, and location-targeted. Player-targeted ambushes will aggro on the player who triggered the ambush, will chase that player from anywhere on the map, will follow them through elevators, and ignore Hide (and other forms of stealth). Location-targeted ambushes will run towards the location where the ambush was triggered and will attack anyone they see. Stealth works just fine against location ambushes, as does simply staying out of the way.The most consistent of ambush targeting I've seen (anecdotally of course) is the one who's closest to the inital ambush. A bane to my stalkers, and ranged folks if they come in from behind- They're more inclined to attack the first target they run across over any other. That incudes Stalkers hanging back for an opportunity (since ambushes apparently ignore Hide, Stealth or anything else) or waiting for hide to kick back in.

Quote:As long as you're facing opponents of +5 or lower, the softcap is 45%.When your soloing 4/8 setting how much more of a benefit do I need. There does come a point where it just is overkill.
I've found that absolutely nothing has any measurable effect on my "particpation score": I got my first VR on a run where I was seeing if I could get the "you didn't participate" reward while still contributing to the team, and the second on a run where I was going all-out to participate. -
Quote:Slotted Protector Bots give you about 11% defense to all, which is a lot of IO sets that could be giving you other benefits. Here is the difference with Tankerminds though. One school of thought is you use the Protector bot pet to bubble you to obtain defense cap. And another which is get defense cap without the need of the pets, so with the pet bubble you will be at 50% defense wise. Personally I come from the defense cap without pets camp, but to each their own.
Charged Armor is much better than Scorpion Shield, since you've already got plenty of defense. With the powers you've picked and the Protector Bots shielding you, you'll be at 40.5% defense with just a Steadfast Protection 3% IO. Scorpion Shield would put you far beyond the softcap for Smashing/Lethal/Energy, wasting most of its power, where Charged Armor will stack nicely with Tough, without putting you over any caps. -
Quote:You might be confusing Electric Shackles (single-target hold) with Electrifying Fences (AoE immobilize with knockback prevention).I took one attack, so I can be doing something. I took Maneuver, Assault & Tactic, because I was told it benefit MM and their pets a lot. I'm not sure I want invisibility nor photon grenade, but to be honest, I didnt know what to take. Electric Shackles seems like a godsend with Assault Bot evil AoE I keep hearing about.
Any advice/suggestion you can offer?
Other powers you might want to look at are a resistance shield from your APP (the resistance is applied before bodyguard mode, magnifying its effect), Caltrops (good for keeping enemies away from an area), and Hasten (so you can set your traps faster). Some people like to take Tough because when stacked with bodyguard mode and an APP shield, you get higher smashing/lethal resistance than any tank, but I've found that just the APP shield is enough for almost everything.
I'm not sure how useful taking all of Repair, Aid Other, and Triage Beacon would be: if you're tankerminding, your bots aren't taking very much damage unless you wander within range of something with Footstomp. I don't expect Aid Self to be very useful, either: I didn't take it, and the only time I make much use of green inspirations is when I'm running from something that just one-shotted my bots -- not a situation where I could stop and use Aid Self. -

Quote:Yeah, it's expensive. I make it somewhere between 10 and 13 billion, depending on your luck at the markets. You can easily reduce that by three billion by replacing the Gladiator's Armor 3% with a Steadfast Protection 3%.This build my be expensive or not, I am not sure about prices at all, but I do not really care, from what I can tell this build should be really good and if it takes me a long while to get it I am OK with that.
On the defense side of things, your numbers in Granite look good: you've got softcapped defense, good resistances, and good regeneration. If you ever need to drop out of Granite to tank something psi-heavy (such as the Psychic Clockwork King or Praetorian Malaise), you'd better hope that the rest of the team has dealt with any non-psi attackers, because you're nowhere near the softcap, and Tough is badly underenhanced.
Slotting-wise, I'd rearrange things to put the Numina's unique into either Health or Rooted: right now, you only get the endurance and regen bonuses from Numina's for two minutes after you fire off EE, and the recharge on EE is longer than that, so the bonus isn't permanent. You've also got a huge endurance drain in Focused Accuracy: you'll need to either put some endurance reduction into that, or reserve it for situations where you really need the boost.
Offense-wise, I'm not familiar enough with Super Strength to evaluate it, but I can say that the damage numbers Mids' is showing you are exaggerated: it's assuming that the Gaussian's proc is firing every time you activate Rage. -
Quote:Using your build in the first post, running your stated toggles, and assuming an attack chain of Quick Strike -> Fire Blast -> Quick Strike -> Focused Burst, my numbers show you running out of endurance after about 67 seconds of sustained combat. You've got a net endurance recovery of 1.17 eps.I am running granite, weave, rooted, mud pots, maneuvers, and cycling through a few attacks right now and I don't have too much of a problem with endurance. And this is without all the set bonuses this build would end up with. My posted build has end reduc of 33.13%, 33.13%, and 68.9% in the 3 single target attacks. That seems pretty decent to me. How much do you think I need?
For comparison, my stone/fire tank, when running Granite, Mud Pots, Maneuvers, and Weave, has a net recovery of 1.70 eps, and I had endurance issues when solo until I got my Cardiac Core Boost. (When teamed, Taunt was part of my attack chain, reducing endurance use to reasonable levels.) -
When je_saist says something about computer hardware, it's usually correct.
-
To give a concrete example on this, removing the knockback from Force Bolt would violate the cottage rule, but removing it from Crane Kick would not.
-
I just tested this at levels 46/47/48/49/50 on a level 50+1. There were no anomalies in XP earned, though there was some variation due to enemies taking damage from other sources (such as falling damage).
-
Note that there's a case where a tank can beat a brute: a Shield/ tank with saturated AAO using Bruising.
(1 + .9 + .55) * .8 * 100 * 1.2 = 235.2
But this is a special case, and saturated AAO like maxed Fury: you don't see it very often. -
There's nothing to worry about. Both "boards.cityofheroes.com" and "boards.coh.com" are the same website, it's just that the login system only works if you use the "boards.cityofheroes.com" name.

I did a Keyes Trial on my +3 bots/traps last night. It went quite well for me once I started ignoring conventional wisdom on how it should be done:
1) Leave your pets in bodyguard mode. With the 75% pseudo-resistance from having six pets out, you can ignore the pulse damage.
2) As soon as possible, break off from the team. At a level shift of +3, I could solo groups of enemies just fine, and being away from the group means Anti-Matter doesn't aggro on me.
3) When you get a temporary power, pass it on to someone else. Don't bother trying to get your pets up the ramps.
4) During the third phase (reactor "Infinity"), pick a bunker and fort up there. Every minute or so, the game will give you a fresh set of targets, and they're so tightly packed that Incindiary Swarm Missiles will shred them in no time flat.
5) The final phase is a straightforward AV fight. I don't know how BG mode and Disintegration interact, but Obliteration Beam and Entanglement are merely minor nuisances. -
Pets don't inherit any set bonuses you have. Pseudopets (eg. Rain of Arrows) inherit any buffs you have, but I don't know about full pets.

Quote:Dealing with the pulse is easy: just follow the crowd and hope you've got a healer who's rocking the aura.the only part that i extremely hate in this trial is the dang antimatter pulse, any toon without a fast charging self heal is basically screwed since it takes % of your hp off each hit and with only 30 sec between pulses not enough time to really regen it
