  1. There is fluff and then there is rightful information. A mission might tell you what you need to know and achieve, adding the why it happened.

That said I haven't really noticed (yet) stories with too much wording. On the contrary, too less is a rule.

If you (OP) don't like verbose text introductions what is the problem? Skip it and click on Accept, once inside you'll have a nav bar pointing to the objectives anyway.

    Insta TL;DR.
  2. Most missions don't have every minion able to induce mez though. Been trying some arcs on a lowbie and I can well see people didn't intentionaly made it hard, but anything martial arts rushes over and overhelms with the number of attacks with chance to stun. Same with EM, but lets not go into mobs with controller sets.

Now being a lowbie I've no reason to complain, custom mobs *are* strong and sticking to in-game factions works so much better because.. yes, they were tailored for lowbies. Other than the Lost we get no mezzes, damage comes at a slow steady rate because mobs have few attacks, etc.

But the truth is that not all sets are viable for NPCs and if people don't test their arcs with different ATs they won't even notice that fact. Cue in everything with mez toggles and a controller trying to solo. Or even in a team.
  3. Seriously, what is it with this? It's been three times already that I change my arc, sometimes a map, sometimes tweaking text and when I come back the next day I find the changes undone.

I'm using the Published Stories, Edit Stories and Save and Re-publish options. What's wrong?

Last time I wrote a large essay of a souvenir and the afternoon I notice some weird things so I go to edit... all my last changes gone again, souvenir included.

Bloody hell! And here I was thinking I had finished and polished everything, now I need to check all my text and see what I tweaked and what didn't stuck.
  4. That's why I was requesting reviews, for those details After so much testing I was getting jaded and the fact the first map is a boat didn't phase me (though I suppose if there is no mention that it is a boat then it could just as well be a warehouse? There is no particulary nautical scenary in it.)

I confess the first faction was hellions, I much prefer them for lowbie fighting to begin with, but after making the first mission I decided I wanted to make it a 1-54 arc and Hellions stop at 20 or so. Of all the other factions only Council seem to span that whole range while not being too annoying with side-effect status.

The earning cash is pretty much what the arc and contact (my character) is about. Someone who can do incredible things deciding to put on spandex and stop purse snatchers for the goodness of mankind always struck me as very un-realistic. Doing good but helping yourself, is the objective.

I suppose in pure good RP form the first mission is the moment to choose not to take the mission after all. I struggled a bit at the end to make the arc's end not be un-ethical. It's why the different options are left open leaving it to the player's decision offscreen

The search text you mean the bar when we click on a glowie? Forgot that, added a little blurb.

The ally did have a text at the end, I'm not sure what happened. She says she would not let you go alone, etc. I'll replay the arc once more and see if its borked.

You're correct about the clues and souvenir. I read neither usually and those friends I speak with also seldom do. I tried to make the text as explicative as possible to prevent the need of that. The souvenir I'll play with though, good point.

Thanks again for the critic, only way to improve ^^
  5. Tailored for low levels. Tested with levels 2-12 and it was soloable (which was the intention). Beyond level 12 is when it becomes easier (so a difficulty upgrade can be done) since the healer NPC starts spamming fortitude. Pity it couldn't do that earlier when it was more needed, but there you go.

Since I'm getting (a few) plays but not reviews I'll throw my arc as well for one of Col's vivisections.

'It's not easy to get started' - ID 80488

Began as a simple 'Damn non lowbie friendly MA maps. Hold on, why don't I do a simple map to help me level with a healer NPC' and then it snowballed into a real string of missions.

It's purpose tailored for lowbies (healer ally, Council faction, but with all the 'annoying' members removed (marskmen and their cryo rounds, wolves, mez using vampires, etc), somewhat easy custom bosses (except the last two which I bumped up a bit, at level 7-8 even with the healer it was touch and go for them but it's better giving a challenge IMO)) but I took the trouble of faction fiddling with it so it serves up to level 54.

You've started an avalanche, Col. Good luck and see ya in 2011 ^^
  8. I would suggest two custom groups. One with one of those 5 bosses, the other group with the remaining boss.

Make a boss objective, use the first boss, then for the 'spawn around the boss' choose the second group. Not sure it would use all of the four remaining though.

    MA RP

The same with your fairy, really. I well remember her. She came, she fluttered about, but naugth much more. Even with graphics RP is still served by a text medium. Fluttering around saying nothing tells us nothing as well. Is it a shy fairy? Is it a fairy high on fairynip? Is it a non-RPer floating around and trying to make head and tails of those strange talking people standing around and not killing things for XP?

Emoting dispells these doubts and gives an opening.

Now far from me saying GG stands for 'God's Gift' for RPers. I still remember my very first Lea (and I've 12 of them now), when GG was packed with people, and it took me up to level 30 to finnaly be aknowledged and slowly integrated.

And then it took my third Lea taken to level 50 (just to show the measure of time involved) before I started to be aknowledged/mingled with the left GG group (yes, because we are a shallow RP pool but on top of it we divide ourselves in groups that don't interact with each other to further thin said pool).

But there you have it, at the time I wanted to have a RP main, someone who would be recognized and who could be approached, I still maintain my wish to know people and what they can do IC so that when people have problems that need to be solved I can say, 'Oh, X can help you, X does that kind of thing' so that instead of using NPCs we can get RP between people.

What I see here is a bit too much of 'I went there, I said hello, no one payed attention to me so I left and don't think I'll bother coming back'. Commiting to a character means time spent on it. The character begins to be known, quirks are shown, motivations are known.

These kind of things can't be all dumped in the first meeting.

    MA RP

Kallie, if you stand around, saying nothing, how are things supposed to work? You showed with Kallandra, Lea remembered her and greeted. Why not come over and interact? Instead you took her to the side and stood there watching the group interact with your friend.

    MA RP

We have different experiences then, Emp, but then you prefer PD and I prefer GG.

Several times I've gone to PD and I stood there watching others doing what I'd dubiously call RP and certainly very few approached to say anything (two so far) or even responded when directly adressed.

On the other hand at GG there are several characters who make an effort to greet and introduce people. Red comes to mind first off, Fans in whatever character, myself.

But if you, for example, comes to GG and sits down in silence without making an effort, or doesn't *try* to interact in a simple manner, to then leave after an hour of being bored, then it's not going to work.

I, personally, have slowly gone into the 'if people haven't come around a number times yet, then is it really worth the bother?'

So so so many times I see alts coming over, greeting, talking, mingling well, and suddenly gone. It's become a running joke, the 'those who come and disappear after two weeks'.

    MA RP

Fans does have a point, FFM. I'm not going into my earlier days 'Gawd Rikti are attacking why are you all staying here chatting while bombs drop' thing, but more than once I too have see RP plots offered and ignored.

And in this I strike my chest three times while saying mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

In the beggining I was oooh, super hero RP!! From someone who loved comic books being in a super hero RP content was great.

But as time went I find myself doing the 'this plot wouldn't affect my character, I don't like this person's RP, I don't like drama, I don't want the hassle, why bother since it will peter out anyway, meh'.

I probably have a very idealised idea of what super hero RP would be because of comics and also NWN spoiled me with a GM who could spawn enemies, use NPCs to talk, put problems down that would not require just bashing things.

MA does solve part of this but it's still not fluid.
  13. I know I'd like to suggest a bookmark system. Brownie points if it's accessible outside of the MA browser.

As it is I find good arcs but need to either rely on my memory or write them down. Account wide bookmarking would allow for replaying the arc on different characters (lowbie arcs come to mind, there are not that many yet that a lowbie can do without being splattered) not to mention if someone asks for good arcs in-game we can have a quick look and mention those we liked.

Ergo the brownie points for it being accessible outside the MA browser so said sharing could be done anywhere without needing to go into a MA and access the interface.

Double brownie points if other players can see our bookmarks when checking the info ^^

    Survivability

What no one seemed to have asked was: is your ice at the def cap? I suppose it must be since you mention the 700 mill, but a ice tank is just so survivable that it seems too odd to me seing such a drastic faceplant as you describe.

My softcapped shield scrapper wades into ITF spawns without much of a problem just because they rarely hit leaving plenty of time to thin them down before they manage to acumulate enough hits.

I played with a shield tank doing the ITF and him yes, would have his HP dip into the red every spawn and ended dying a number of times when we couldn't pump his HP up fast enough. But it was fairly easy to see that without being capped the cascading thing put his only strength down at just the alpha.

Regarding your question IMO the strongest tank is a softcapped WP. 45% defense to all, around 100 HP regen with one mob around, res to S/L in the 70% mark, make it DM and you can throw a 300 HP heal every 3-4 seconds.
  15. After managing to decipher what you said, I feel it's a matter of opinion. Melee has, and continues to, not have much of a place in PvP. In I13 the buffs to DM have made it quite viable and I have no complaints about its damage.

Moreso, to run a attack chain that constantly heals for 240 HP every 3-4 seconds, non interruptable and hard hitting, is nothing to sneeze at.
  16. From 107 HP to 63 HP, it goes lower when the first sneeze makes RTTC drop. I loves my WP tank but it has no place in PvP. If I hadn't paired it with Dark Melee it would crash and burn every fight against whatever. As it is Siphon Life keeps me up.
  17. Ok, I changed a few things in your MA/SR build, Eleven.

Since you were complaining about lack of endurance I put in the uniques from Numina/Miracle, they are expensive but that's what merits are for.

I've also tweaked your attacks to give better %.

Lastly, since you're at Elude cap there is no real need to have Elude, ergo I removed it and put in Conserve Power.

With all this combined you should no longer have endurance problems.

  18. Against Lea or a go in the fighting? If against Lea it's not much harder than sending a tell.

After last time and all the jeering from the sidelines I don't think I'll bother attending with Lea tank again, perhaps with the new scrapper I'm leveling.
  19. Oooh, that's some good stuff there.

Bit confusing about Pious though, is he depowered, is he not depowered? The doctor said one thing, what Pious did really shows another.
  20. I felt it was nice. Short stories need to pack more meaning into words to achieve the same as longer stories, and I think you managed it well.
  21. Mids shows numbers such as 100 or 300 but I don't see a ralation to the numbers I see some people speaking of, such as a AV's regen needing a DPS of 120 to be defeated (if I recall correctly).

Anyone happens to know how to calculate the DPS of an attack?
  22. I quite liked it. Stuff like this fires my desire to RP because I really imagine there is a world inside of CoH to interact with.

Unfortunatly it isn't quite true, but still, a good read and a good intro to a new character.
  23. Since everything has been talked about exhaustively i have one more question to add:

Why do these kind of threads get such a huge ammount of 'my character is/does/acts'?
  24. 12:30 in the afternoon, the 25th December

The problem with coming from a different world was that few times things matched, even mid-winter festivities. It wasn't that Lea was unaware of the custom since it figured so proeminently in this society, it was just bit of a stopper on what exactly could be a gift that would be pleasing and useful while being special and not a every day thing.

Except for Alex, her present was getting the Black Cats thing rolling over the Isles even if had meant geting the whole Flambeux business out of the way first to ease the cat's conscience, bless Cy's stealthyness skills.

With the help of her nose and matching the personalities of the ten clones left in her home she had gone to shops that mixed perfumes to get them all something apropriate. All but four of the remaining clones had a small box of chocolates to go with it and festive cards.
It wasn't terribly original but though friendly with them all only four were she truly acquainted with.

Those four were Sara and the three lab bunnies. To those each had their perfume, only the bunnies had three matching ones, and all four had two cards. A get out of jail (Lea so rarely took a no) and a get in jail (that one was easy to figure and a good way for those shy moments).

It was her kitten that made her scratch her head. What to give to someone who built what she wanted to have?

The gift nagged her from the box she had stashed it under the bed of one of the un-used apartments in a different building from another city block (even so she was sure the kitten would find it before the time came to open it).

Fortunatly she was distracted by the scents of food. Their luck that one of the clone sister by the name of Marie actually enjoyed fiddling with the pans and feeding them all. Even if at first it had been enjoyment more on her behalf than the others eating it there is truth that one can't go wrong if one does what one likes and her skills with food had grown to stomach rumbling levels at their mere scent.

The terribly petite cat-woman sauntered to the large meeting room where a large electronic tree had been set and lots of lights twinkled merrily above an enormous table that could sustain all of those that had come.

For one who hated to be alone there was no better sight than a sea of smiles and raised glasses.

Rising a glass of her own pressed to her hand, Lea spoke above the cheerful din, "A merrrry Chrrristmas thing to you all, childrrrren! Mmay we have mmany morrre togetherrr and all in good health!"
  25. Stricken hero raises from the ashes

    ((Third page, small blurb))

The heroine Flambeux who had tried to stop a robbery yesterday and was badly beaten for it was released from the hospital this very morning.

We managed to get a commentary from the doctor in charge of the heroine.

'We do not know how it happened, but her broken arm has reknitted and her jaw is impecable. A molar lost a few months ago in a fight against Hellions and even her apendix have both regrown. We are pleasantly surprised at what must be a side effect of her powers.'

Flambeux has joined her family in time for Christmas but we were unable to get any comments from the young heroine.
