Ordinarily, I'd try to make a case for both. But this is City of Heroes and we just don't get real disaster movie level damage. You never topple buildings, cause massive car pile-ups, shoot down a helicopter to crash land on your foe, etc.
Out of what we have, I prefer some level of (or option for) "realism". Yes, it's a comic book game but you can have a fantastical environment and still draw the viewer out with improbable things. For instance, if the Lord of the Rings movies had said the One Ring was made of radioactive plutonium, you'd probably be wondering why everyone didn't die of radiation poisoning instead of just saying "Oh, it's a fantasy world". Likewise, having a cop, cowboy, detective, 19th century aristocrat time-traveler, mercenary, or whoever flip out and do a bunch of crazy ninja garbage just to fire off a few rounds takes me out of the game. For certain characters it can work, for others it decidedly does not. -

I wouldn't be upset at the situation in the OP (although I guess it could get weird if taken to extremes). If anything be happy for the extra business for artists you obviously appreciate. -
Wedding pack has some embroidered female pieces that look very nice and you really can't get elsewhere for those slots. The wedding pack skirt and magic pack bolero are probably some of the most uniquely textured pieces in the game. The tuxedo pieces aren't quite as versatile but they're still well done and can share the same embroidered texture. The veil is unique for a hair accessory. The "lingerie" bits (Hearts Plus, Excess Plus, Angelic Plus) look great as well, especially compared to their body paint counterparts.
Despite it's thin contents, the wedding pack blow the party pack away.

Quote:I didn't get that from it (nor did I get the opposite of course). He said that CoH would "deep storage" characters preserving all but their name. He didn't say that the way CoH was doing it was wrong or a poor way to go about it.Imma gonna suggest that Positron's blog entry for this week suggests we're not likely to see another name purge any time soon.

Reading though, I'd actually lean towards Option #2 now. I hate to diminish people's creative options and the simple fact is when you remove things (even for supposed better things) you're doing just that. In the case of the low-res head wings, they might make shoddy looking wings compared to the high-res option but they make better looking fins for fish characters or ridges for reptilian characters, etc. I'm always interested in how people creatively work the costume options and taking options away from them just seems like a bad move.

I'm a male for whatever it's worth.
12 Female characters (7 Heroes, 5 Villains)
7 Male Characters (5 Heroes, 2 Villains)
It's mostly concept for me. Either I have a concept that tends more towards female or I come up with a good name that lends itself more towards being female. -
Edit: Changed my vote to Option 2 and explained why downthread a ways.

Quote:Yeah, like I said before, the fact that the uniqueness of the name can be "bent" isn't a good reason in my mind to break it entirely. The problem is that we already don't have visually unique names. Using the standard in-game font, names such as "Delilah" and "DeIiIah" (using upper-case I for the lower-case L) look identical. If you're picking names from a list or responding to tells with backspace, you'll never know that you're talking to a different person. (I use a font that differentiates those two letters to avoid this problem.)
That means it's already possible to impersonate any character who has a lower-case L in their name. Similarly, as mentioned with the name "0mega" only observant players will be able to distinguish the difference between zero and upper-case O. And, of course, unless you have eidetic memory, you won't remember the exact spelling of names that include hyphens for characters with whom you've teamed only briefly. So when you get tells from Badger-man, Badgerman, Badger - Man and -Badger Man- are you really going to be able to keep them all straight? -
Quote:Says the fellow with the name. He occasionally does a check to see if it's available and it continues to come up as claimed. If it had been purged, it would be available when you check on it.um, says who? I don't think you understand how it works. When they run the name purge script, no one actually loses their name. They are just flagged as available. The name isn't removed unless someone else actually tries to use it.
So, if no one WANTS the name "A Guy With Bots", it can stick around forever no matter how many times they purge the names. -
I don't think it's "offensive", I think it goes against the genre and cheapens the experience. Finding examples where multiple people share an identity simultaneously (which then becomes a major plot point because it's so unusual) only serves to reinforce the fact that it's not standard and you don't see it happening in the superhero genre without special circumstances. Not just because fifteen different people all independently and coincidentally wanted to be called Superman.

For what it's worth, I wasn't playing during the first wipe, blew off the e-mail, came back a year or two later and found some of my names gone. I shrugged and either abandoned them or started new characters. Having been warned and having chosen to ignore it, I didn't see anything to rage over eighteen months later.

At the same time, if I was reading a Batman comic and he came across a guy fighting crime named Batman@MichaelKeaton who was teamed up with Batman@AdamWest and they were off to find Batman@ChristianBale to help them defeat Catwoman@MichellePfiffer and Catwoman@JulieNewmar, I'd probably set the book down. On a lit stove burner.

Quote:I had this AGP card from NewEgg in my old (2004?) Dell Dimension 4550 and could play with low Ultra Mode settings or raised "typical" settings. I also had the max amount of memory in it (2 gigs).Newegg still has a range of AGP cards (28 total currently). Depends what model computer you have as to whether a replacement card would use AGP (the older slot) or PCI Express. Also depends what model as to what integrated graphics you're running - you won't be able to do much with the ultra mode settings while running integrated graphics, but you should be able to play the game on low-ish settings with a playable framerate.

I love Lounge Crooner's back story. I love his costume. Everyone I'm friends with in game loves him and thinks he's great. He gets nothing but praise.
After a year and change, he's still level 26 because I hate playing a Sonic/Mental blaster. I hate the sonic blast set and I'm not thrilled with the mental set either. Nor the way they play together. I could switch out the secondary but that won't make me like Sonic more. And don't get me started on the Sonic defense set with those stupid waveform bubbles so rolling him as a Defender/Controller is out.
I won't delete him though... someday I'm going to push through and level him up. Maybe. -
Quote:There's someone who posts in these threads (sorry, forgot who) who mentions that his low-level trial character ("A Guy With Bots"?) is still alive and kicking after nearly a thousand days. So it's pushing three years at least since even low level names were purged. They already have a program they run that frees up names, and they can select the level range when they run it. The first time they did it, it was set up to level 35. They told us after that most of the names that were freed up were much lower so they set the range lower the second time they ran it.
I'm not deluded into thinking every name under the sun will be opened up but likewise I don't see any good reason to have trial account names from three years ago still be locked up. -
Quote:True, but you're still the only Amazing Man. There's no realistic way to stop derivative versions of your name but that's not an excuse to just say it doesn't matter and let everyone share it.And that is a fair statement. However, I believe the contention is that people using kreatyve methods of using the same name anyway.
I still see Amazing Man, Amaz'n Man, Amazing Mann, and Amazzing Man as still really being the same name, even though they aren't literally [obviously].
I'm an advocate of name purges but that's secondary to why I'm against Name@Global style solutions. -
Personally, I think of heroes/villains as unique characters and having multiple "Amazing Man"s on one server just doesn't jive with me.

This is what I think most people will do moving forward. Builds that are already "done" might get changed to include Leadership or Fighting or Teleport Friend but I think most new characters will just grab that Tier 1 attack they would otherwise skip or that secondary power that looked "okay" but would have to get squeezed out for Health.

Quote:Damn. One more issue back and they could have spared us Council.
Avetea jumped in to save BaB from more harassment from War Witch. "He deleted the backups. Well, not all of them, but our most current version of the game is... from Issue 3." -
I don't get the "no extra slots" complaint. Just pick three powers and don't slot them and you're still better off than you were previously.
It sounds like saying "Here's the thing: I have sections in my wallet for singles, fives, tens and twenties. You just gave me three free $2 bills and I wish you hadn't done that unless you were going to buy me a new wallet with more compartments." -
My little tank project (a class I've previously hated) is now at lvl 17. I've noticed that my major issues are stamina and whiffing on attacks (which burns more stamina). But I do enjoy standing in front of Lost bosses and laughing as they feebly try to mez/sleep/stun me. I'm less crazy about having to Brawl while laughing because my blue bar is gone.
My plan is to hit 22 and give it a fair shot with Stamina and SOs for damage, accuracy, EndRx, etc.
I'm still not making another Peacebringer though. -
A brief note about the Thesaurus.com answer, make sure to scroll down (or change pages) to the "Concept Thesaurus" entries. A lot of times you'll find every synonym listed for a common word is still taken in game but the concept section can get you thinking in broader terms than "What's another word for 'inferno'?"
