I don't know if this is all-PvP experiance you're coming from or what but you're about 180 degrees out of phase.

    Hehehe AC-electricity joke

If the Devs wind up reducing the recharge & time-to-live for the Auto Turret, can they do the same with the freakin' Malta turrets, as well? Those things are annoying, and aren't worth destroying because there's no reward for doing so.

Maybe we can get an outcome where everyone wins!

But Croatoa is a name that has no meaning to city planners.

I see the name Croatoa being more like the hazard zone nicknames. They're used in common speech when talking about the zone in detail, but it doesn't replace its official name.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think Croatoa is the "invading spirit-world/reality", while Salamanca is the actual town. The Croatoan "realm" is encroaching on our reality (and on the town of Salamanca, directly), which is why heroes are called on to stop it. I'd guess that the "true" Croatoa is the spirit-world you go to in several of the missions there, where the sky's yellow and everything's a copy of the "real world" - again, likely a product of the realms beginning to merge.
  3. Freakin' sweet!

Just another examples that the Devs do listen to our requests, and even implement some of the less-insane ones...

    It is simple.

    Toons have no character.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Hehehehe

I use "character" or "char", but then, I've always hated Looney Toons, so maybe my dislike of the term "toon" stems from that. I just don't equate CoX to cartoons, I suppose.

Say, does anyone use the term "avatar"? I've only used it occasionally, though again, I'm not certain of its origin (as far as games).

You-Are-God. Period. Maby Excalmation Point. End Sentance. This has been my bane for quite some time now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Heheheheheh - I concur! Thankfully I rarely encounter the stupid sound-loops (only in large teams/battles), but bloody hell, it's annoying.

    Huzzah! for success!

A paradigm shift if you will!

    [/ QUOTE ]

That summed it up excellently! I've long been annoyed by simple (and often inaccurate) "role definitions" such as "healer" or "nuke" in CoX, though I hadn't entirely realized why. As you pointed out, those terms are from past games, and don't apply here. It'd be like going to EQ or DAoC and using terms like Defender or Blaster - they're close, but not the same.

  8. Update: The Seekers of Oblivion have proudly joined with our new allies, the Corruptors of Paragon. While the Seekers of Oblivion shall remain intact, it shall serve as the personal forces of Abyst.

The Seekers of Oblivion will function more as an alt-SG, and therefore will not be recruiting any further. However, we will not turn away those who might find a home with us! Villains, on the other hand, are reactive. They initiate plans, break things, kidnap, torture, brainwash, subvert, interrogate, etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And by "reactive", you really meant "proactive".

But yes, villains make messes; heroes clean up messes.
  10. So... when do we get to see black copters that spit out Malta troops?

Always good to see more of the game's backstory filled in. It's also good for those who are curious, but happened to miss a story arc where something is explained.

    Huzzah!

I’ve found that assigning “printscreen” to my mouse in the City of Heroes keyboard configuration helps so I can bang off a succession of shots without needing to relocate my hands on the keyboard.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would urge caution with this. I recall someone in PlanetSide who was complaining of lag. Come to find out, he had accidentally assigned his left-mouse-button (which is used to fire your weapon) as the Print Screen button, as well. So every time he was firing a shot, he was taking a screenshot as well. Needless to say, he wound up with thousands of screenshots, which was making his machine a little slow...

That said, as someone who takes quite a few screenshots, I'd agree that hitting your print-screen key repeatedly is a key. You never know when someone will be mid-pose, or something will be clipping, or whatever.

  13. Great guide, thanks for taking the time to write it!

I've played my Robot/FF MM up to 26 without any reference, and he's performed well enough to be enjoyable. The dead period leading up to 24 is rough, but it's a great power boost once you get your second Protector Bot (and subsequently, the Assault Bot).

I avoided taking the personal attacks, since I knew I wanted to focus on providing buffs for my Bots (which are the real damage-dealers). Besides, having to re-draw the weapons every time you use a FF power is annoying.

One thing in particular that the guide helps with, are the raw numbers. I had no clue that Maneuvers and the ProtBot's FF were so pathetic. Playing around with slotting is difficult, due to the horrible in-game economy for Infamy/Influence. Sadly, it really discourages experimentation.

I look forward to the I7 updates to the guide!

Working with a lowbie TA on test, I still get hit with the impression that this set doesn't bring a lot to a team in low levels.

What I find problematic about this is that these powers are BLASTER powers in the devices secondary. Sure they are better, but they need to be A LOT better. Entagling Arrow should be a substantial -recharge buff.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I very much agree with this. As interesting as the TA set could be, I can never retain interest past the early levels.

Entangling Arrow is annoying, as a single-target Immobilize. If it's going to be single-target, it should be relatively strong, having decent Immob time (which I think it does) and a very strong -Recharge. Hey, they're supposed to be trying to get untangled!

I also agree that Flash Arrow's -Acc component seems weak. They just got BLINDED, they should have serious trouble detecting much of anything. Maybe there's a way to make the -Acc penalty downgrade over time, as they regain their sight?

Here's a suggestion - what about making all the TA powers with AoEs, have small areas of effect, but make them relatively cheap & fast (Endurance-wise)? That makes it more of a "tactical" AoE, good for hitting small groups, as opposed to massive packs of guys covered by other powerset's debuffs. To counter this, the powers should be relatively quick-firing (since you'll have to launch off more to cover the same area) and cost less Endurance. This would let the Trick Archer put the debuffs where they were needed, quickly, but at the cost of having a "one shot hits all" bonus.

  17. I, for one, like the idea of choosing a Patron, and having that choice be permanent. At least, so long as we're informed before the choice. I see it as entering into a pact with that faction of Arachnos - you work for them, and in exchange you get some of the secrets of their power(s). It doesn't have to be a master/slave relationship; it can be a "mutual benefit" relationship.

I also like the red-lightning Mu-juice. I can't wait for power customization (however many years it may take), simply because it'll toss up the variations in CoX even more. I'm even hoping the dinky "pyeeewt" Electrical Blast sfx in CoH get replaced by the "1.21 gigawatts of power" sound that the Mu mystics' lightning powers have...

In the level 10-15 "Defeat the Wyvern financier and witnesses" mission from Radio Free Opportunity, didn't we find out that Wyvern in the Rogue Isles is specifically being paid by Longbow?

I guess where I'm going with this is roughly the same place the poster did who asked what's less deadly about a flamethrower when compared with arrows -- given that Wyvern is being paid by Longbow to kill the villains they're trying to kill in the Rogue Isles, how does this make Longbow any less dark?

    Hmm.

Which raises the question, if Freedom Corps were going to hire a Paragon City mercenary company to supplement their attack on the Rogue Isles, why didn't they hire Hero Corp?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, they work together (and both with the Legacy Chain - all the "good" groups assist one another from time to time). The mission you're referring to is the one with the "financier" you have to take down (which is a Longbow soldier). I imagine that Longbow provides some funds to Wyvern in exchange for their assistance in the Rogue Isles, but Wyvern probably has their own separate contracts & employers there.

As far as Hero Corps - that's a good question. From what I understand of the lore, Hero Corps recruits local heroes, then assigns them local jobs via contracts with interested parties. So they sound more like a super-security force, than anything (probably similar to how Crey uses the Paragon Protectors).

On the subject of flamethrowers, well, they're tricky to deal with. Certainly some foes (like the Devouring Earth) are fair-game for any weapons. But I suppose you can argue that villains at our threat level are so dangerous (and well-protected) that flamethrowers aren't necessarily lethal. Besides, they have amazing Rikti-based medical technology to regenerate all the flesh they burn off you...

Wasn't there enough aggro drawn over the other PvE toggle dropping mob to help show how bad this is?

    [/ QUOTE ]

The worst part of toggle-dropping is the fact that you can skip the animations with some powers (EA's Entropy Shield, or Stone Armor's Rock Armor), while other powers effectively hold you in place until it's finished (All three toggles in SR). Oh, that, and you can easily fail to notice that a toggle has been dropped...

I don't see the newspaper working quite so well for us...

'I see in the paper that the bank was robbed yesterday. If only I'd been there in time to do something about it.'

Nah, a police radio or something of that ilk is a much better idea.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    HAHAHAHA!

Good call on the police radio. Or maybe some kind of Freedom Phalanx emergency channel. It'd work like the newspaper in CoV, but you could have the hero pull out a field-radio (similar to the one Merc Masterminds use to summon their minions).
