Quote:Funny you should mention Manticore. I actually did solo Manticore's TF on my Kin/Sonic Defender back before IOs were introduced (To this day, she still doesn't even have any IOs since I got burned out on her after hitting 39). Started out as a pretty full team, but the first mission totally owned us. I'm still not sure exactly what was going wrong; I assume that some members of the team were just not pulling their weight. So, a bunch of people quit and some just logged out. I logged out as well. I logged the character back in the next day and saw that I was still in the TF... So I figured, why not, I'm pretty good solo on this character. Ran through all the missions with no problem. When I got to Hopkins, I busted out a Warwolf, Amy, and a snowman. So, I didn't technically solo him by some standards, but pretty much I did....back when the best you could hope for were SO enhancers no one was even thinking about trying to solo a Maticore and facing Hopkins solo...
That said, I'm not really sure how I feel about the large team requirements. Yeah, it feels more epic to take on full spawns and AVs by yourself; but if there's nobody else around, it loses its appeal. I haven't run the new trials yet, so I can't really comment on those. I do typically prefer small teams of good players rather than large teams of indeterminate skill levels though. I do agree that it feels a little backwards that low level TFs have smaller team requirements than high level. If I can take out an AV with two teammates at level 15, why do I need seven others at level 50? I know, the level 50 AVs are far more powerful than Doc Vahz; but I'm a whole lot more powerful at 50 too. -
The one thing I miss about the old ones is the unique font for each place. Granted, not all zones had a unique font, but a lot of them did have subtle effects or something going on with the font. Now it all just uses the same font.

Yup, sorry I didn't get to the boards earlier. Coulda told you that you can.
I actually activated my second account by inviting a friend to try the game. And then, whenever I let it lapse long enough due to not being able to afford it; I try to wait long enough to be able to invite it back. Done it twice at this point. -
Quote:If she's decreasing the dpi to 72, she's making it take up less pixels anyway. That's what I'm saying. By making it 72 dpi, it's just going to look worse if it gets printed out than if you just decrease the pixel dimensions.I get what you're saying, sir, and I think Camille does, too, but from an artist's POV, more pixels means more art, more details, more creativity. And even digital artists (perhaps secretly) crave seeing their work 'in print', 'in reality', and getting whatever praise it has earned. Hence, the ubiquitous 'click here to see it larger' and 'you'll have to download the big file, to see all of the details'.
Also, I am a digital artist, so you don't need to tell me about what digital artists like.
edit: And when saving a version for the web, it should always be a separate file than the original. Never save, always save as and choose a new name. And work/save incrementally; you never know when you might want to go back to an older version. -
I have a feeling that you missed something in what I posted. DPI doesn't matter for the computer. Pixel dimension does. 300 dpi of an 8 x 10 gives you a pixel dimension of 2400 x 3000(and that is not good to upload, which you seem to think I said you could). 72 dpi of that 8 x 10 would give you a pixel dimension of 576 x 720. Meanwhile, if you just set the pixel dimensions to 576 x 720 and leave the dpi alone at 300, it'll look exactly the same and take up the same amount of storage space as the 72 dpi; the difference is that the 300 dpi 576 x720 would print out a lot smaller.

I used to hunt them in PI. Most recently though, I got the badge on a character without setting out to get it just by running tips every chance I had; and the RWZ arcs. There's a couple missions in the RWZ that can have a group of up to 8 fakes as an objective (depending on difficulty or team size).

I actually started working on a logo weeks ago but then got distracted by school work. Last day of the quarter was today and I have a week off. I actually currently have two other things to work on, but if I get some spare time between those two things and catching up on playing, I'll try to finish up my entry.

Quote:DPI doesn't actually matter except for printing. What you're doing when you change the dpi: photoshop does some math and figures out how many pixels wide and tall the image needs to be to print at the desired dimension in inches. i.e. You're working on something that's set at 300 dpi and you made the image 8 inches by 6 inches. What the computer sees is that this image is 2,400 by 1,800 pixels and that when it sends it to the printer, it should make 300 pixels take up one inch. When you change the dpi to 72 without adjusting anything else, the computer will do the math and make the image 576 by 432 pixels. If you print that out, you will end up with the same sized image, but you'll be able to see a noticeable difference in quality. Now, if you leave the dpi at 300 and just change the pixel dimensions to 576 by 432, it will look exactly the same on the computer monitor since it is the same exact number of pixels; but when you print it out it will print at 300 dpi. So instead of printing out at 8 by 6, it will print out at 1.92 by 1.44 inches; much smaller, with no pixelation.I always do everything at 300 dpi and scale down to 72 when posting.
If it's purely digital work though, dpi doesn't matter in the slightest. You could set your dpi to 1 as long as your pixel dimensions are large enough. Not too large though, a good standard to stick with is around 600-800 pixels wide if it will be presented online; this will make sure that it can be viewed comfortably even on a 1024x768 monitor. Of course, it's good practice to not set your dpi to 1 though in case anyone does decide to print it out, otherwise they'd end up with a giant mosaic. -

From reading all this, I think that what may be most likely is that when Hamidon psychically assaulted Cole and they had their battle of wits; when they broke apart they were both significantly altered and took on characteristics and personality traits of the other. Not so much that either is controlling the other, but that they just became more like eachother. Hence why the attacks died down, and why Cole got completely power-hungry.

Read a bit of the thread and didn't see my reason mentioned.
My Fire/Shield Scrapper was my go-to character prior to inherent fitness. When I heard about inherent fitness, I went to work in Mid's coming up with optimal builds to take advantage of it. When working on my Fire/Shield, I realized I hadn't optimized him as much as possible beforehand and would need to buy a bunch of new sets and spec out a bunch of sets to get his new build to work. It would take multiple respecs to get the sets he doesn't need out and the good ones in. I just don't feel like putting in the effort to do that when I have over a dozen other viable characters at level 50. That, and I'm not exactly rich in-game (or out for that matter, but that's besides the point), so buying all the new IO sets would put me back a hefty amount. I've recently had a bit of a windfall with some purple IOs, but since that time I've grown attached to my Inv/SS Tanker and I just don't feel like bothering with the Fire/Shield since I don't rely on him like a main anymore. I guess my reason is actually about 3 reasons in one.
But yeah, there's reasons. -
1. Step down from being lead.
2. Work exclusively on remodeling old assets and making new costume pieces. It's what I'm good at. Being in control of the whole game is a bit beyond my comfort zone right now. And I really think it'd be nice if the citizens got to drive cars that look to be made within the last decade. And I've got so many ideas for costumes and weapons and accessories, and there's quite the backlog of great ideas in that costume suggestion thread of sexyJay's to add to the game too...
3.Leave the game-leading to someone who knows better (I don't mean this to be a dig against anyone here for saying what they would do. I just mean that, personally, I wouldn't be comfortable making those kinds of decisions for the franchise.)
4. ?????
5. Profit? -
There is no Poseidon analogue in CoX. They couldn't get water looking right, so it became Energy Blast. Poseidon got mad about that and withdrew his support.

Personally, I would like to see old story arcs brought up to give equivalent rewards to tip missions. I'm fine with the WSTs giving better rewards, but the time/reward ratio for story arcs is horrid in comparison to tips and it doesn't feel right. I ran Harvey Maylor's arc this past week. It took me three days of play to finish it (and I had actually already ran a mission or two of it before this). Basically, if I had chosen to do tip missions (where I can pretty much choose what enemies I face and make things easier on me), I could have gotten more of a reward in 2/3 the time and not had to fight 2 EBs.

Examiner.com really needs to tone down the damn pop-ups and such. Two pop-ups blocked, one made it through, and a freaking ad bar along the bottom and a suggestion box popping out of the side. It was worse than a porn site.
Aside from that annoyance, the interview was a good read. But not really anything new. -
Quote:I know, that's why I was posting in response to this:Okay, you've established what is fun for YOU.
What you didn't do was take into account that different people find different things fun.
Far too many people come to the forums and state with absolute certainty that because THEY don't find something fun, no one else does either.
Quote:Play the game the way you want to and have fun. Don't worry about the rewards.
If no one is forcing me to do anything, then don't tell me how to play. I will chase the rewards and enjoy the benefits of them. I would just like more avenues to lead to those rewards. If I do Heroic content, I'd like a Heroic reward. -
The first time I saw a spawn of almost all fakes was back when the revamped RWZ was on test. I ran through the arcs with my fire/kin since she was my main back then. I ran her on invincible and dropped her down after encountering (I think it was) 5 of them at the end of one mission. Since then, I've encountered them on anyone running at higher difficulty. I never thought anything of it since the mission that I spot them in is one that says to defeat a group of fakes. Frankly, I thought it was common knowledge that these types of spawn will happen in the RWZ arc and I was a bit surprised when I read this thread and realized that so many people didn't know it existed.

Quote:Shift-A will toggle between the two select modes for the path select tool too if you don't want to wait for the pop-up.it does, above the pen is the little black arrow called the path select tool, you want to change it to the direct select, just like in illustrator, just click and hold down until it pops out the option, or click the tiny arrow. but it is still limited
Shift works to switch modes between all the tools actually, as long as you know the shortcut key for them. Shift-W will switch between the stupid-select and the magic wand (I think they actually call it smart select, but it never selects what I want it to when I'm working on stuff, so yeah). -
First character created:
Annon the Fury (since just plain Annon was taken on virtue where I made him first), a BS/Regen Scrapper created 9/30/05. He currently sits at 34ish and I haven't played him in years except to collect anniversary badges and some event badges. He was later (2/09/08) created on Guardian as Annon, a BS/WP Scrapper and was one of my fastest 50's; he dinged on the ides of March (just a little over a month after creation).
Current scrapper count (on Guardian, which became my home server due to friends): 14
First "main":
Wendy O, a Fire/Kin Controller created 9/30/05 (about 2 hours after I made Annon the Fury and well before I knew about Fire/Kin's stigma). Played her up until she got to around 40, had a falling out with the Supergroup I was helping to lead, and moved on to other projects; which delayed her hitting 50 until January of '07. And since then I haven't really played her much at all, especially after Hami got changed to what it is now.
First level 50 character:
Gwynevieve, a Fire/Fire/Fire Blaster created 3/12/06. Hit level 50 on 12/01/06. She still has a mostly HO/SO build and I haven't played her much at all in years.
First Incarnate:
Becca Blue (formerly Rebecca Johnstone, but I wanted a shorter and more hero-sounding name for her) an Inv/SS Tanker created 10/29/05. She was one of my slowest characters to hit 50; achieving that final ding on 4/12/08. Johnstone is my Scottish clan name; my great-grandmother's maiden name was Johnstone and my grandmother was very proud about her heritage. It rubbed off on me(even though I'm a total mutt); hence my global name and the multiple characters in my roster that share the surname. After my grandmother died this past August, I brought Becca out of retirement and gave her a proper IO build as a small tribute. And when I finally got a chance to play the incarnate content on live, she was the first to run through the arc. She's now my main and I rarely play the other 122 characters that I have floating around the servers because I enjoy playing her so much.
That was fun to share, and I enjoyed reading about others' firsts. Good thread. Cheers OP. -
See, I thought it was constipation. Figured maybe BM was too hard and you needed some stool softeners.
I really think they should have thought a little harder on naming Battle Maiden. The current acronym/abbreviation just leads to terrible jokes like that. They could have just named her War Maiden and avoided any bowel movement jokes entirely. -
Quote:Those two sentences make zero sense when you put them together. If I play to have fun, that means investing in a character to make them the best that they can be. The better they are, the more fun I have. I recently went from being a 123-character-playing altaholic to almost exclusively playing my inv/ss Tanker because with all the rewards I've gathered for her (tons of set IOs I could have never afforded without A-merits and Alpha slot ultra rare), she's just too much fun to play. She can take on any enemy group and succeed, running at +2/x8 (some are dicier than others of course, but she can do it).Play the game the way you want to and have fun. Don't worry about the rewards.
Now, if I hadn't worried about rewards for her... Well, she'd probably still be one of my more neglected characters. I'd probably be making more alts in the search to find a more fun powerset combo, and then getting bored with them and starting again. Instead, I have a character that I've invested into and I enjoy playing immensely.
But like the OP, I am a bit tired of doing tips and WTFs. I enjoy story arcs, I do. But when I have a limited amount of time per week to play and I am trying to make my character even more enjoyable to play by making her stronger, it's not worth my time to even talk to a real contact anymore. If story arc rewards were comparable with tip/morality mish rewards, I'd be ecstatic. And that's what I think should be done with them. Make the rewards comparable. If I play through a story arc marked as Heroic content, I should get an A-merit at the end of it (of course, some story arcs shouldn't be worth an A-merit. The super short RWZ ones come to mind immediately). Time-gate the story arcs so you can't get more than one A-merit in 20 hours and make them lock you out of getting an A-merit from a morality mish for the same period of time (maybe even time-gate it longer than that and do 40 hours so it wouldn't be faster than tips/morality mishes). This would probably require the re-balancing of a lot of story arcs to make sure that they're worth an A-merit, but a lot of them already require that you do a lot more than 11 simple missions.
tl;dr: I enjoy rewards, I enjoy number-crunching and making the best build I can come up with. I don't enjoy doing the same thing every time I log into CoH to get those rewards. Revisit story arcs and make them give comparable bonuses to tips/morality missions.
Those are my thoughts. Tear them apart, maybe we'll come up with something awesome. -
Quote:See, I just always run with the maxinactivefps 5. I figure, if I alt-tab out of CoH I don't want CoH hogging my graphics while I surf the web. The maxinactive setting doesn't affect your play at all, so there's no reason to not use it all the time. The maxfps setting isn't like that though since it throttles your maximum fps, as the name implies(duh). If I run two instances, I tend to put maxfps 25 on both though anyway, since I've had the second instance black out on me a few times when I didn't. My fps never actually even gets higher than 25 anyway though...Thanks I did find that but the problem I'm coming up with is I launch the game normally once, and then a second time with only the 2nd instance running those command lines. 1st instance running game normally. That section applies command line to all Live versions open. For now it works fine if I type the commands in game so that'll have to do.
Anyway, I'd rather just have it all on all the time instead of having to type it in every time I start the game. -
Also, I wanted to say good luck to those of you who are having problems. I hope that you get it working soon and can get back to kicking butt in-game.
-
Quote:It's not quite as obvious to set up anymore, but yup. It's possible. Rather than try to tell you, here's an image that should explain it all:Excellent information as always, got the game running pretty well but would you or anyone happen to know if there are any Command Lines for /maxfps 25 and /maxinactivefps 10 via a desktop shortcut?
Think this should explain it well... -
