I vote change it.
It seems pretty straight forward to me... My options:
A big stone DE critter that I cannot color, and cannot add themes for (like lava and crystals)
Or
An overlay that I *CAN* color, and can add the themes of Lava and crystals to.
The choice seems obvious if you want more customization options.
I vote change it... and I hope there are more Yays than Nays.

Quote:Making it work more like invincibility where you get an end cost reduction buff per enemy within a certain range... is a very cool idea. I like that it does have a solo use as well as a obvious team use.I've suggested this before and I still think it would be an improvement over the current Vigilance.
I don't have a problem with the -endurance buff. I think it's completely appropriate for a Defender. The Defender running out of end usually spells doom, especially if they're a healer.
But instead of basing the buff on the aggregate health of the team, base it upon the number of foes nearby. The more foes you're fighting, the greater the discount. It could be setup just like Invincibility (but with a much wider range, say 25'?); gives a greater buff for the 1st foe and smaller buffs for subsequent foes up to a cap.
Doing it this way makes it fair across all Defender powersets, whereas current Vigilance is very biased and encourages poor defending. And it also would give the solo Defender a decent buff, whereas the current Vigilance gives squat. It also would be a much more consistent buff, as spawn sizes are relatively constant, based upon the team size and mission difficulty. The current Vigilance buff can vary widely from mission to mission, based upon team composition and critters fought. This makes it very difficult to rely upon it, further reducing its effectiveness.
Just my 2 cents.
Make it work like that, and you can cap the number of targets it can be buffed by so it limits any possible abuse. If people want a secondary trait that helps in combat... then on top of the end cost reduction that goes up per enemy in range... it also as a +tohit buff per enemy in range so it makes you more accurate. You don't pump out more damage, but you consistently pump out more hits in a situation where it may be needed most.
In cases where your ability to heal depends on a to-hit check... that can really be a life saver as well!

Quote:Is the DEV digest(s) not yet working? I imagine they would need an updeate to work with the current forum softwarre.<QR>
I'd like to see a direct RSS feed option available for things like the dev digest (yes I know about Red Tomax's). Also the dev/community digests are all html source which isnt formatted properly, probably a script somewhere that needs to be updated
Or is there another way to do a similiar function?

So it does seem to work... interesting.
This will take some getting used to.

Even though the Avilians HEAT is no longer going to happen... It still has some hints in the lore.
It would be neat if a NPC hero group sprung up as the avalians to perhaps plague some new island (zone) to be found in the rogue isles. That would be a nifty thing to see... a race of bird like peoples fighting off the arachnos or villains in general to protect their moutain top Nests(?).
That would so demand a drawing backstory I would think.
That and... the Black Blood of the Earth. Man do I want to know what they are all about.
Also the temple and sect that Scirocco belongs to. It sounds as if they are more hero than villain based. Maybe they are more neutral and can go one way or the other. A more heavily mystical and ancient version of the Vanguard?

I would like to see more on the story of the Coralax. The falling of the great rock into the ocean that was alive and intelligent (read almost god like in power and mind) that gave birth to the ocean dwelling coralax... and maybe further explaination on why the living coral that was the world to the coralax went silent.
I would also like to see fleshed out more on the hints that seem to impart the idea that the stuff from space that is the origin of the coralax (the coral city), and the meteors from shivans as being related. There may well be a relation between these two entities in some vague way. The way they arrived on earth seems to be quite similiar.

This is a great idea, and I think it should wholely stay tied to the SK/Exemplar system, but with some consideration to allow for 50s to be able to still join. (A 50 sorta exemplared to another 50?)
You go to the Contacts for Hero corp/Wyvern to set yourself as possible open to duress or Probation. You would use the same place to zone in from one side to the other if teamed up. You also have that as your rez point if you are kicked, or estranged from your mentor for too long (2 minutes maybe?) without being picked up by someone else in the team as your mentor.
As to how you can be found. Well... you may flag yourself thru the contact, but once done you should just show up in the opposing factions team seek menu. I imagine they will undersstand why masterminds are showing up on the hero list when they are looking for more members to a team. With global channels available it means it would be pretty easy for people to arrange teams for any person so long as they can find enough sponsers/mentors. Heck we already do this today for people to far apart level wise to organize teams. This would just be another interesting layer.
It would be neat to exemplar down a level 50 villain, and thus as a level 14 Empathy I have a exemplared level 14 (once 50) level mastermind I am looking over... and hopefully reforming someday. Same way for the level 50 hero exemplared to the level 14 villain. They fear the power so they used some type of power limiters to keep them undercontrol. (i.e. being exemplared down to the mentors/sponsers level and all) The SK can work the same. One level below mentor. Perhaps a young villain can see by exemple the better way? RP reasons are abound, and mechanical reasons are present (more or less). I hope this may be done even in inclusion to Fallen Heroes/Redeemed Villains for those who like to get only a taste of the otherside and help out friends (in an out of character way) without truly jumping sides. (Which would have some other system available for it...)
Although I think some level of trading or hotswaping should be allowed. At least for inspirations. It is such a pain in the butt not to be able to give a team mate (hero or villain) the rez insp we need to keep the team moving. Now in this case whatever is necessary to create the needed insp. I think the drag and drop for inspiratons only should not care what faction you are giving it too. (Though honestly I don't think the trading limitation should exist at all. Yet then again I believe in market merging too... Your milage may vary.)
My more than 2 bits.

Are you prepared if you want to take the story line of COH/V into radical directions? Such as under the seas, or into space? Maybe into the savage jungles with hidden secrets? Perhaps create a story line and story specifcally for the "Mysterious Orient" or story lines in china/japan/korea/etc? It would be nice to fill out the story for the three prominently asian heroes we have. (One of which hangs out in faultline)

I also give my salute to the awesome efforts of the Surviving 15!
You have my sincerest thanks for helping to support a game that has been my main hobby for about 5 years running now. (A record for me!)
I am so glad you are getting an oppurtunity to expand and hopefully realize visions of the game that before seemed next to impossible. I hope that also that the reinvestment pays itself off every penny for the incredible work that will be put into it.
I hope the new people come to understand the intense work ethic that guided you through those rough times, and see that even though there is more people to shoulder the load that this is certainly not a time to be taking it easier. That even though you have gained more than twice your numbers you may still be working twice as hard as before in order to make this the best game you can. A game you not only love to work on, but also love to play and be involved with all the way down to the most basic community level.
There is new challenges and competition ahead. Yet I have stayed firm in the support of the developement community that has seen us this far. I look forward to more to come, and with each issue to be just as incredibly awed by it as I was the one before... or more so. (You guys have done so before with me and others. I do hope you can do it again!)
Thank you so very much for sticking with us, and making this a great game.
I will stick with you and continue to be an avid player.
To the Surviving 15.
May the next generation of heroic developers find inspiration from your achievements!

I'd like to chime in like Greyhawk. A great number of these changes would get me into PVP alot more! I especially like the instanced PVP missions. Two goals. Two teams. Only one victor. I would be so for that!!!
Also... we need more PVP games as mentioned. Mutant league football anyone? (for those who remember the reference)
Good job! I hope to hear more of these possible changes in the future!

Suggestion to improve TFs: Cut scene love.
(this may not jive well with those who hate cut scenes, but I love 'em)
Beginning of every mission in the task force should start with a cutscene (preferably involving the AV/Hero or main story interest character that it is about), and at the end of every mission there is a end cutscene that tells a bit more of the story, and most likely has them making a get away that would logically lead to the start of the next mission. End of the TF should have a very climatic end scene that gives a very compelling finish to the story.
I would love this type of addition to all TFs and Trials as it would involve *EVERYONE* in the team in the story of the Strike/Task Force and/or Trial. SF/TF/Trial are special, and the story telling of these special events should be as compelling as possible. They help to define the story of the game.
I also agree to a number of points above. Especially the awarding of Soveigners again that also help to unlock both special costume chest details or other pieces *AND* allows an options to create special base items to decorate around the base with. (This would be even better if personal apartments somehow become a reality) So you can see it in the character info, perhaps as a costume part on the character themselves, and also in the SG base for the character. (Make it a free no prestige placeable item perhaps. Maybe a hologram type thing so people can walk thru it and it can't be abused in trap building in bases.)
I also suggest heavily that the devs begin to invest *ALOT* more time in revamping the various TFs one at a time, and for gods sake... start with the positron task force! In this they can add the cutscene options, and perhaps tailor the story more the hero/villain/etc that gives them to be more sensible. A revamp of some kinda is most certainly needed.
x Jeremy M. - I play it for the fun, but I also love it for the story... -
Suggestion: Paired Kama (with head spikes)
Powerset: Dual Blades
For Dual Blades I suggest the addition of the Kama. A typical asian martial arts weapon that has alot of moves that seem similiar to the motions in dual blades. For some of the thrust moves you can add a spike off the top of the shaft to do the pokey moves.
Some examples of Kama:

Kitties on the Prowl
website and/or message board:
http://www.the-kittens.net/kittiesreborn/
We are a cat themed supergroup that is always seeking new members. By cat themed we mean anything related to cats. We have a few dogs in our ranks chasing cats, and a few mice that get chased by cats. It is a pretty diverse lot of really good people.
We are lite RP, and only in the supergroup and coalition chat channels. We do have a Global channel as well called KATS that people can join if they are looking to be invited to the SG, but KATS is a OOC channel. Some IC creeps into it, but I try to keep it to a minimum.
We are a cross server SG, and currently are active on Virtue, Justice, Freedom, Champion, and Infinity. Thus if you would like to server hop some to get out some of your ALT-itis, then we can help you there. We are technically established on all live servers, but only those 5 have any active population on it. We seek to grow to all servers in time.
We are looking for some cool cats who want to share some good times with like minded people who love cats. Join KATS and look for me!
My character name who leads the SG:
Fayline Grylore
(sometimes refered to as Kintaro)
My Global Handle:
@JeremyM
I hop servers alot so hitting me up on the KATS channel, or message me at my global handle is the best bet.
I hope you all have a good one, and be safe and happy no matter where your paws lead you!

You know, if they WANTED to phase such a system in, the easy way to do it would be to switch the prices between what a STORE charges and what your CONTACT charges. It's always nice that my contact sells ALL the SOs I need, but why bother with them when I can get them for what, 30 percent less at a regular store?
[/ QUOTE ]
Perhaps it will become a consideration, and things will change. Yet from other things I hear... All enhancements will probably get a price increase in time. Maybe it will only be the stores, and contacts might be more favorable?
Still... before they would consider that... they would have to build in the system and network anyways. That would probably take alot of time.
One of the things I read that I liked alot as a suggestion...
Have a contact list *ALL* the enhancements he can possibly sell all the time, but grey out the ones you can't buy till you level up the contact enough. Then you can see what they are offering down the road some, and you can make in informed decision of how much time to put into a particular contact.
I would *LOVE* this kinda small quality of life change to contact storess. I *know* I would use them more if I knew what I might be getting from them not only now, but down the road.
Hopefully something for States to consider if he is still reading this thread.
x Jeremy M. -
I like that stores are staying. Yet perhaps phasing in a system of contacts to do something more you envisioned on top of this over time. Perhaps an addition or part of the phased in story arcs for particular Origins. I think that wouldn't be a bad idea. Having more than one way to do things is not a bad idea. Options... always provide more options. In time... MMO Darwinism will phase out stores more than any nerfing you could do if you made a contact based system more appealing and fun. So stores would be there, but empty cause there is something better.
Perhaps may be able to make a best of both worlds.
We shall see in time. You tend to be pretty clever Dev crew.

We are a cat themed group. Lite RP, and tend more to casual banter. All cat themed characters and protectors of kitties welcome. (we have a troll that protects cats in our ranks, and so we are quite flexible)
New members will be allowed to join the ALT SG of KOTP: 2nd Catalion first. After you have been on for a while or have gotten over 20th level, then we can discuss moving you into the main Kitties on the Prowl group if there is room. Yet with the various communications options we have, then you should certainly not feel out of touch with your fellow kitties.
We are also a cross server SG as well, but easily Virtue is our main SG and the cross server options have only been recently created. We are looking for leaders to head other servers as well with mains so they can help build up related groups on those servers. More on this can be discussed as you like, but contact me at Global Handle: @JeremyM.
Things we will strongly promote (and just short of require) in order to join:
1) Must be a cat theme, or tie into cats some how. We have a human sorcerer researching Egyptian cat magicks. We have a Troll that loves cats, and seeks to protect them. We have mouses that like to tease kitties. Something that basically fits that theme, but foremost we really want the solid cat people.
2) Must have a free global channel slot so you can join our SG Global Chat channel. (Keeps all server SGs in touch, and people running alts)
3) Must be willing to sign up for the main message boards, and check them from time to time. They do not get much heavy use, but we would like to encourage heavier use as much as possible. If you join, then please feel free to use them!
4) Must be willing to team up with fellow SG members first, and make attempts to help each other out. Even with ALT characters. (We do talk on Global Chat, and so this happens a lot)
5) Must be friendly and flexible, and willing to help defuse things. I want the atmosphere to be fun and relaxed for persons of *all* ages. Anything that can be done to promote this is what we want.
We don't currently have a Ventrillo or Team Speak server.
SG peak hours are normally in the evenings on most any day.

So 4 teams of 2 people? So 8 people total? Will that be the limit to the number of heroes battling it out at the same time in a particular instanced battle zone?
Sorta makes sense as the instanced zone is so far only really designed in missions to have a max of 8 people. Yet I also remember reading someone say that two teams of 8 people can head off against each other...
So is the total capacity for a battle zone... 8... or 16?
If so... does that mean up to 4 teams with 4 people each? For a total of 16 people? Or some combination there of as long as total people is under 16? Or is it 8?
I imagine these are issues still being hammered out in the details, but I found this a bit confusing.
If we had a complete free for all of 16 people... Wow... That would pretty wild. And then have multi-teams against each other. Wow. Even if it was a large number of Duos... It would really put a spin on free for all, and/or group (paired) dynamics.
*ponders about this*
I still hope there is an eventual clarification on how many total people can be in an instanced arena combat at one time. Total of 8, or total of 16?
x Jeremy M. -
To put it quite simply...
You cannot please all the people all the time.
It is a nifty idea, but simply cannot be done. Considering this thread indicates more people (myself included) that seem happy with the level of customer services that the DEV team has provided as opposed to the number of people that are unhappy with it, then I feel justified in feeling that a majority of people are being properly cared for and serviced.
You have an issue with the game. So do others. Yet even with the combination of issues that people may have about this game, I am still feeling firm that it is a considerable minority in comparison to the happy customers of this game.
Still... as with any company... the dollars will display the satisfaction level people have for the service. They are still in business, and I have no doubt they will be for quite some time. Least I hope so... because I am happy with and satisfied with their game.
There are problems? Sure... so mention them in the proper forums, and hopefully they will get read and addressed. Issue bug reports and proper petitions. It will be considered and address if it is found to be a problem affecting the game world as a whole.
Rome wasn't built in a day, nor even a year I am sure. Yet it has been just short of a year since it has been released, and this is quite the impressive world to be a part of. There has been so much forward momentum I have been stunned! So many player concerns have been addressed in one way or another, and in an attempt to not only give them what they want... but also to maintain game balance overall so it is still fair to everyone. All this work in balancing and repair... and all while still stacking on new bricks to build world at the same time! Remarkable! Above that they are building this world, and working at such a furious pace... and still have time to ask people how they like their house while they are still building it. Time for idle chat, and even socializing to an extent. You think they were a hundred handed being for all the things they have done, but then again it is not just one person... but an incredible team.
I am impressed. So much so that I wish I could work as a part of that team, but it is not quite my field. Yet I am happy enough to play the "work in progress" product they have designed. I am looking forward to how it grows.
I am only guessing... but I have a vague feeling that a majority of the players of this great game feel the same. Least at some level.
Grumble or no...
I bet I will be seeing you around in the game still...

Or maybe something like this where everything used a form of the Giant Monster code to make all mobs in the mission even con to everyone participating regardless of their level. Thus it is an equal level of challenge to every member in the SG trial?
Also they can use that system in a way that all minions always con white regardless of your level, all Lieutenants always con yellow, bosses always con Red, elite bosses and up always con purple.

I still think a modified "monster Code" where all players con white in any PvP contest would be the simplest and most elegant solution.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. PvP requires "no levels." The Monster code is perfect for this. The advantage of higher players over lower players is not that they would hit harder per shot, but that they would have more powers to choose from.
A 50 against a 5 is still wildly uneven, but it isn't an instant kill, and with level-restricted zones it should keep the mismatches to a minimum.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually... I would be happy if they used the "Giant Monster Code", and the villain conned Purple +4 (or 5) my levels. I may still have a chance to flee, and maybe not get one shotted. A bunch of lowbies can still try to gang up on a high level. (Still very hard... like AVs and giant monsters)
I guess that still leaves the question of one lowbie getting beset upon by a team of much higher levels... 1 to 5 odds... they are all like giant monsters in code... all purple... yeah... running may not even be an option...
Prolly have PVP hazard zones more likely... Tough puzzle to figure out... *pondering*
