They are having a horrible effect on the Markets. Inflation is out of hand. This is due to multiple things.
[/ QUOTE ]
Funny, I always thought that farmers were bringing a steady supply to the market so that prices can remain somewhat reasonable as opposed to them being increased considerably if the supply was lacking.
If rich buyer who can afford to "buy out" the auctioned item with a remarkably high price bid then expect it to happen. Subsequent sellers will most likely see that bid as a benchmark and base their prices on it. I can see that this practice has been around long before the AE so blaming it on the AE primarily reads to me as pure bias. -
[ QUOTE ]
Quite obviously you'd need to remove the level restriction on the zone.
And even more obvious is the fact that this isn't a serious solution, but more of a way to get people to think outside their tiny little box.
Ah well....
[/ QUOTE ]
I see no indication in your original post that implies the suggestion being serious or not so how were you expecting me to not take it seriously?
I'm sure there's a good reason there's a level restriction for the area too, one of them being perhaps to prevent lowbies from beng able to buy raptor packs there and thus invalidating the incentive to do the safeguard mission to get it.
Last but not least Peregrine Island isn't intended for lowbies anyway. I'd imagine it's hard enough running past snipers there to get to Portal Corp without getting one-shotted. -

You're suggesting that I've got to be at least level 40 to use the AE since it would be exclusively in the Shadow Shard.
Very Bad idea. Sorry.
Last but not least, it pays to do a little research on the zone before making a suggestion like this, seeing that you expected to see lowbies in there. -

AE (for PLing) attracts all the new players and sucks them in. they burn through levels 20X faster than any other player. they in return get burned out. now two things happen at this point. some will say hmm wonder what the other parts of this massive game are like and will actually play the game. but all the greedy non team oriented players will disappear out of boredom. which means we wont have to deal with them later on a STF or LRSF.
the other thing to consider is how AE affects everyone rather they use it it any capacity or not. people have been leaving since its launch. CoH is loosing its hardcore dependable player base at an alarming rate. sure the new players bring in revenue but most of it im sure is temporary and they are bound to get burned out and leave. but loosing the veterans is really bad for business. they are the ones who help bring in consistent revenue. consistent revenue is what keeps all businesses flowing.
[/ QUOTE ]
This reminds me of the same argument from an anti-farmer/PL'er in a global channel I'm in who loves to point out those scenarios repeatedly as if they were absolute.
The fact of the matter is, no one's keeping track of the ratio of recently inactive farmers/PL'ers versus those who are still playing on a regular basis to draw a conclusion like this. If any of the officials are then clearly we're not in the know either way. I don't know where you get the "20X faster" from since it looks like it's some random statistic pulled from the air somewhere.
The same applies for the claim that the game is losing its veteran players at a steady rate. It can only speculated, and the conclusion should not come from just reading several goodbye posts by vets or ingame disappearances for example.
Like what was said earlier, if its just an opinion then represent it as an opinion. -

Future note to OP: Never come into the forums to start a vent post like this. It'll only invite the attention of snarky keyboard warriors who will take the opportunity to jump on you.
Just keep a level-head, and have a GM look into your issue. All the best. -

edit: I just found out Alt's ignoring me as I tried to send a PM. Oh well.
[/ QUOTE ]
He tends to ignore anyone who disagrees with him on the subject on farming. Not much sense trying to change his mind with his unquestionable negative bias inspired by such strong feelings of hatred. -

To the OP:
Setting aside the "oh woe is me" vibe of your post, has it occured to you that starting threads like this will have the potential to invite the attention of more of these supposed griefers toward your arc?
And I agree to the comments being made that raters don't owe you any written feedback. I agree that it's only proper that written feedback be given to point what's good or bad about the arc, but to expect to be entitled to them is a little overboard. -
[ QUOTE ]
Um, if it was worth spending hundreds of hours on, how in the world is it "destroyed"?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because if it was deleted, all those hundred of hours spent on that character would ultimately be wasted and not everyone thinks that it's that easy just deleting a character whom they've spent those hours and days spending on levelling and IO sets?
Seriously, how is it not easy to understand? -
[ QUOTE ]
I agree with the author. I hate AE farms, but all people do is farm. I suggest dropping AE to no xp. I know that sounds dumb, but think about it. AE is meant for the players to make story arcs that are fun/challanging/ expand on their characters. It would make become more like it was meant to be played.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's been said before and over and over again.
Taking exp out of the AE is a BAD IDEA. The last things the devs want is the huge majority of AE users to leave the AE and then have their latest innovation mostly abandoned. -
[ QUOTE ]
The last time I tried to do AE missions in a PuG it was a PL farm and I wasn't informed of this ahead of time. When I politely bowed out I had two players send me tells which were vulgar in the extreme. An anecdote to be sure, but that crowd is part of the "new COX" you're so proud of.
[/ QUOTE ]
"Part of it" doesn't represent the entirety. -
Let's consider the ticket reward system.
I think it takes very little time for someone to find out that tickets are very profitable. So here comes the mindset when a player considers playing an AE arc not for the quality of the storytelling (if its a story arc) but whether that player can get the best tickets payoff possible just by playing it.
Since this game revolves around rewards, it's only logical to expect players to go for what gives a bigger reward. Hence farm arcs get most of the attention as opposed to story-driven arcs, not to mention they give better exp too. -
Keep in mind that although the primary purpose for the AE is creating stories, I'm very sure that this doesn't appeal to everyone and only to a specific niche of the playerbase who do enjoy creating their own content. Alot of us like to jump into the action of things and hence its why we pay our monthly sub. It's not the lack of creativity nor laziness that players don't try creating their own arcs, it's not something that we look forward to in the game.
And since it has been stated by the devs that the AE is an alternative way to get from lvl 1 to 50, you can more or less drop this suggestion. -
If you think the removal of XP in the AE removes farming, think again. You suggested the removal of the ticket cap in the process. That only works to promote ticket farming. The tickets can then be used to purchase rare salvage in bulk quanitities to sell on the market. Yes, there's still an ongoing market demand for rare salvage. That in turn promotes the existence of boss farms.
Sure the removal of XP gains will thwart power-levelling, but your main gripe is to do with AE farms as a whole isn't it? In that case XP removal for the AE isn't an effective solution.
[ QUOTE ]
(also how about removing the ae building from Atlas and placing it in galaxy so it can return to being a social gathering place)
[/ QUOTE ]
From what I've seen recently, social stuff still happens in AP. Costume Contests are still being held, SG recruiting is still being advertised and people still stand under Atlas's statue chit-chatting.
It's easy to disregard the AE LFT broadcasts but people choose to be annoyed by them. -
[ QUOTE ]
Were you genuinely PLed, or did you just power-game your way up?
[/ QUOTE ]
Seems I'm having a different understanding of the term "Power-level". I always thought it meant someone who went on a levelling spree through huge experience payoffs and not someone who door-sits/pads while relying on someone else to earn the exp for him/her. -
She looks very beautiful in the photo. I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm sure that she had lived a full, if not happy life under your care. Please cherish the memories and know that you had provided her with a home, love and companionship before it was time for her to say goodbye.

If it's a learning problem, then the player takes as much time as needed so that he or she can to better their skill with the AT in question. Some people don't catch on as quick as others I know.
But the most bothersome issue to me are attitude problems, like when players make an obvious mistake and don't admit to it even when common sense would tell them otherwise, then start to act all egoistically defensive and hostilities begin, amongst other problems with teammates not being part of the team with what they do.
I can remember this one tank running ahead of everyone just because he thinks he's a solo god, leaving the rest of us to fight all the way through. The best part was that he eventually screwed up without even getting past the 2nd mob he had engaged in combat, and faceplanted. Of course he didn't hosp. Nope. He stayed dead in the mission because he could still earn exp while the rest of the team was putting in effort to fight the mobs while he slept through it.
Satisfyingly though, he eventually got booted from the team for obvious exp padding.
Like what the others have said, these sort of things have been around way before i14 anyway. The AE and PL'ers in general are just easy scapegoats of blame when these problems aren't exclusive to them. -
[ QUOTE ]
I believe if someone PLs a toon (AT) they never played before and PLed it to 50, they don't know how to play it. Reason I say that is cause I have seen it WAY to many times.
[/ QUOTE ]
First toon I've PL'ed over a total of 2 days was a grav/kin troller during the last double exp weekend. Before then I had never ever played a troller before, only blasters. But I managed to adjust to the playstyle and be effective.
Second toon was an AR blaster using the AE. I've played blasters before but the powers were all new to me and I had to figure out what worked from the bottom up. I think I've done pretty well so far.
So no, I highly disagree that because someone gets to level 1 to 50 at a faster rate than traditionally so, he or she automatically does not know how to play their AT. That's hogwash. There's still plenty of opportunity and time to learn and master the AT. -
[ QUOTE ]
Anyway, back on topic - my use of the word lore was perhaps misplaced. What I was trying to say is that there are multiple zones in the Rogue Isles (and Paragon City) - these, apart from Cap and AP, are basically dead now. That's not about people exploring the lore of the game - it's about people being in AE/MA, as that's where the 'action' is. The broadcast chat is enough to prove that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sadly I agree with you. I remember the time when I started during i12 that I would have no problems finding a team on blue-side in most areas other than AP.
However if a player wants to explore the lore and stories that each zone can offer, then it's done through standard story arcs, and those are mostly solo'able. Before i14 the common way to level was through radio missions and those are just some (insert enemy faction) creating trouble in a warehouse or office building.
Radio missions do offer more choices of objectives other than a clear all but in spirit they're no different from AE farms. They're just throwaway missions for people to gain exp and level. Nothing more. Both have no story lore material.
AE farms are more lucrative for the obvious reasons. Why do radio missions when the exp payoffs in AE farms are better, and I get tickets to boot!
Anyway, I agree that we'll most likely never see another double xp weekend due to i14 changing the game environment so drastically. People are already powerlevelling quickly enough and devs have already expressed their discontent for powerlevelling. -
Not really funny quotes but it was a funny moment for me. I was in Crey's Folly with my blaster toon flying low and was approaching a group of Nemesis soldiers on some rafters when two of them shouted to me:
"Stop! I have orders not to let you pass!"
"Stop! You cannot pass!"
But I flew right past them anyway. I can only imagine their fustrated expressions after. :P -
[ QUOTE ]
I know people that have been actively playing for 4+ years and cant play worth a damn. Not pl'd. No farming. Lots of hot cat girl ERP. RPers seem to be the players that cant figure how to play.
[/ QUOTE ]
What a load of stereotyping, discriminatory hogwash. Good job on generalizing RP'ers solely as cat girls and ERP'ers too. -
[ QUOTE ]
If you don't farm, more power to you. But honestly, the only advantage that double xp gave was faster levelling. And, well, I'm not a genius, but an all-boss MA single mission arc with custom mobs on an outdoor map is not designed to teach you the lore of Co*, and there's a ton of these it seems (and as much as they're pulled, more seem to replace them as is evidenced by the broadcast chat in AP or Cap).
[/ QUOTE ]
That's to assume that every player should find the lore of the game as something that's incentive for them to play or enjoy the game as opposed to just wanting some action and beating up stuff. -
I do AE farms.
But I confess for my sins everyday. Honest. -
Do what I do: Abandon the email function altogether, let it get 100% full with the spam mails and then leave it alone. Offline messages work just as well anyway if you need to send someone a note when he/she isn't around. Otherwise you'll be fighting a never-ending battle clearing the inbox, ignoring the spammers, getting your ignore list full and then eventually having to clear it.
Just stick to using browser emails if you need to. The game is very alt+tab friendly anyway so you can switch inbetween playing the game and reading emails/whatever else pretty quickly. -
I think one of the more troubling issues to me regarding i14 is that the regular zones now seem alot like ghost towns. People simply aren't interested in the old-fashioned radio missions anymore. Why do radio missions when one can level up at a much faster rate using the AE? That being said, there's so much incentive to just do AE runs in Atlas that it's hard to pass. Its a pity that many new players are introduced to just doing AE missions and not explore 5 years worth of quality content out there.
I do miss the days when I can go to nearly every zone that has radio missions and have no problems getting into a team. But considering that joining an AE boss team has better exp returns instead is something I just can't avoid these days. It doesn't help that it has become harder to find radio mission teams.
The game environment has changed very drastically as compared to before i14 in my view. I'm not sure if I entirely like the change.
Now, I'm not going to go all DOOOOOM on i14. The ticket system has made it much easier (and affordable) to get rare invention salvage for my IO sets through farming runs. 1mil of Inf is something I don't get at a very fast rate, and that's about the current market rate for rare salvage, so I'm happy. In fact, I never had much interest in IO sets before and i14 helped made them more accessable to me.
I'm still able to join up TFs though regularly when looking at global channels where TF teams are organized. TFs are one of the most fun aspects of the game and they are incentive for me to keep playing.
