  1. Sigh...same here. Red spikes are back.

Hoping against hope this is fixed by the time I16 starts.
  2. I'll second the point about Transference being able to suck end from an enemy. I've got mine slotted for end mod and it robs them blind. I've combined with other kins to steal the entire end bar from AVs even. (Though they still attack...unlike us)

Also a technique I use on long AV fights for reapplying SB is to target a teammate, hit SB (keybind of course), hit Transfusion/other, move on to the next teammate, repeat. Almost always, teammates will have the AV targetted so it works great.

    Seconded.

Got on yesterday and it was like that feeling you get when you get over the flu. You have a whole new appreciation for "normal".

Many thanks to whoever was/is working on this problem. It is appreciated.
  4. After reading some of the posts I went and checked. Freedom much better today. Around 2:00pm CST or so it was just like Virtue. I think I got one weird yellow spike that rubberbanded me...otherwise great.

Just checked again and it's still good. Fingers crossed.

I was going to post that.

Freedom (the highest population server) is almost unplayable at times for a lot of players. That is keeping people logged off too. I know I just gave up yesterday when I normally would have been playing.

    Is that true?

If so...then why the changes to custom mobs?

My one published arc has to be ramped up to "ridiculous-irritating" in order to give full xp. I think I manged to only sacrifice one of the critters on this altar ("Smoke" is just too much to ask of other players to put up with). But something tells me that my minions with Siphon Speed aren't going to be much fun for for a team either. (Stack a few of those) Sure would be nice to be able to at least pick out the one most irritating power in a set without slicing off xp. Probably not a big deal to me in the end since the odds are against anyone playing mine....much less a big team. I tried mine solo on Test and it's not bad for a Scrapper at least.

Why do I get the feeling that someone is going to figure out which powerset is least irritating to fight against and that will suddenly become the fall-back powerset if you want to build an arc with full xp?

Exactly the same here. I get stretches where it is like the west coast servers almost.

Actually got a call from an NCSoft NOC person to do some troubleshooting earlier in the week, but on my end it was just running tracert and pathping (never heard of this one, and it didn't seem to do anything) for them. On his end he was tracing my IP. He had a list of people to call and work with so hopefully that helps them narrow the problem down.

    On Triumph btw.
Should we get in touch with them or just hang tight and wait? I was assuming they knew there is a problem and don't need yet another customer complaint to deal with.
  8. Good info to have for the few of us that actually enjoy giving Malta a proper beatdown.

There aren't any villain game mechanics in redside content with the exception of mayhem missions.

There are not missions/story arcs that even give the illusion of being proactive as a force of chaos/evil. You just do what you're told. One of the things that villains needed badly was some kind of metric to measure their villainy that translated into the game. Whether that was some kind of map overlay that showed your evil grip on a zone growing as you do your dirty deeds and eventually lead to you establishing some kind of personal stronghold(NOT a VG base). Or even if contacts grew increasingly afraid of you as you gained levels and power and allowed you to make choices as to how you deal with the situations they presented(do you truly work to help them or help yourself at their expense?).

Those types of things(off the top of my head), are what would make villains stand apart from heroes. I hope GR will address some of that.

My biggest concern now is that with GR being a huge heap of content, we are unlikely to see new story content added to the game in any great quantity until its launch...which will certainly make me unhappy if its launch is a significant period of time away still.
This sounds good...but may also be asking a lot.

From what I've seen "different" between the two sides is most often immediately judged to be either "better" or "worse". The players just do that by nature. Seems like the Devs eventually have to throw up their hands and "generic" things. Patron powers can't be changed? Outrage...must be changed to be like the hero version. Villains can get jetpacks at lvl 1? Well now heroes will be able to do that too. Villains get newspaper mishes...you know heroes had to get radios.

I see what you are saying, but the Devs really get put into impossible situations. Those ideas you had are good ones....but heroes would have to get a version of it too or there would be much teeth gnashing.

Also nuetral. A psycho is building androids that resmeble fictional characters that go on seemingly pointless rampages. Can you defeat them and find out who this new villain is,and what they want?
Just tried it and liked it quite a bit.

Nice to see references to Mary Shelley and Jack Kirby which may fly over the heads of some.

I'm paying attention to which coast servers are on for the first time myself.

A server transfer wouldn't work for me because I've spent years getting my solo SG to where it is now.

It's just a word. Don't read a whole philosophy into it.

They are less efficient. This entire conversation is about rewards for effort....so it's a word that belongs in the conversation.

The reward isn't what irritates me...it's that they slow down team play and I like it fast.
  13. Am I the only one that doesn't like Freakshow?

For purely selfish reasons, I don't mind this change because they irritate the crap out of me and maybe now I'll see them less (as teams opt out of choosing them on radios).

I see lots of people mention that they aren't "hard". That is true enough. That isn't why they are irritating.

Others may have a different experience, but here is the way it normally goes for me:
The team will cheer as the leader chooses a Freakshow mish for the umteenth time. We enter the mish and begin fighting. Good times at first as powers are going off left and right. But then...
    • Scenario 1-Part of the team moves on to the next group as one or more Freaks rez behind them. The trailing members will then be stuck fighting in reduced numbers or have to run quickly to group up again. The lead group has of course been fighting without the trailing members during all this.
    • Scenario 2-The team waits a few seconds to see if any of the Freaks are going to rez and will then proceed to put the rezzers down for a 2nd time. Less efficiently of course since any AoE powers are a waste against lone foes.

I always assumed the extra xp was a reward for putting up with this irritating bunch. They slow a team down. Any extra xp is offset by the typical less efficient manner in which teams fight them.

So applause...I hope to hear "I haven't fought Freaks in a month" in game.
  14. D'oh....

Yeah...I got all excited last night and got myself into a ITF (I've just been doing crafting and shopping on Freedom lately). It was pretty awesome for a while...then the spikes returned with a vengeance. They are still there now....though not as bad as I've seen.

I take last night as an encouraging sign. At least the potential for a fix must exist.

What we need is an email address for the players to send complaints to. Someone is not doing a good job and I would like to let them know about that. It sure couldn't hurt to fill up an email box somewhere (what...can it go from "unplayable" to "super-duper unplayable"?).
  15. Just signed on to Freedom and got this:

For the first time in WEEKS!!

    Dare I hope?

I do sympathize, and it's unfortunate to have to close down an account that you might otherwise enjoy if conditions were different, but it's not always the direct fault of the service you are subscribing to. It's frustrating indeed, but the anger is misguided.

Like I said, "It can be any number of access points en route to the server" and my location apparently doesn't require passing through the particular network that is failing to perform correctly.

As somebody who plays almost exclusively on Freedom, I'll certainly take your advice and "count my blessings" that I live in an area that is not experiencing this difficulty. A few other people I've teamed with and asked about this have also reported no issues at all, and they also live on the East Coast, though I cannot say specifically where, or what service they are using.
    All true.

The main point is that the problem is not our computers. And it is a huge problem that effecting a lot of players. At some point it needs to be fixed or this game will suffer.

Like I said, I'd look at the service provider and/or your location. Jiblets said they have issues with Satellite. I don't know what provider you have, but you both seem to be from Texas. There might be something to that.

Just because your connection works fine on one server, and not another, doesn't mean the server is broken. It can be any number of access points en route to the server. The providers in your area apparently take some bumpy back roads to the East Coast. I'm not sure what NCSoft could do to help you on that one.

I'm from Boston area on Cable internet and perform equally on both the east and west coast servers. I can even Dual-log with Freedom (East) and Test Server (West?), and still not have an issue with either instance. I'm sorry, but I can't duplicate your results.
    Count your blessings.

This is a real problem. Check out this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=186847

    And this from Tech Support:

You're right. When this ticket was created, we hadn't yet found the commonality at the root of this particular latency issue. The problem here seems to be related to a routing issue on the return path from our east coast datacenter. As such, only the east coast servers are affected by this.

Our Network Engineering team has been investigating this in an effort to get it resolved as quickly as possible. By this point, we've gathered enough information from you to include in a compiled report (of other affected customers) as part of their investigation. We currently have no update on this yet but we're working to get this cleared up so that our customers can continue to play on the east coast servers without this problem.

As a further update on this issue, we've confirmed that this is a routing problem with one of our peer ISPs (PCCW). Our Network Engineering Team is in contact with them and is working to clear up the issue as quickly as possible. As far as technical support is concerned, we've done as much as we can and this is now incumbent upon PCCW to resolve.

In the meantime, we'll just need to be patient until this problematic ISP can resolve its connectivity issues.

If you have any questions or concerns please let us know

If you were having an issue at the time you posted, I'm afraid it wasn't everybody having the problem, and I don't know of anybody but you that did.

During that time period, I was in Monster Island (it's where I logged off), Mercy Island (to help somebody transfer some money), Port Oakes (to pay my base rent), Cap (to go to market), and Nerva and GV (for the SF). Which zone were you having trouble in? Was anybody else complaining about it in /broadcast?

How is it working for you now?
    Bleh...

As usual...I just went to Virtue (west coast) where it is like night and day (usually even better than this actually):

For fun I tried Champion (west coast):

Then I figured I would check out another east coast server...Victory this time:

Back to the west coast on Protector:

See the pattern? It's an east coast server thing.

I'd be looking at your network provider instead.
Hey! Is Freedom fixed? That netgraph looks like it did before all this started! (logging on now)
  21. Pretty much given up on Freedom other than non-combat stuff. Just went to Virtue and played a villain last night. Was very refreshing to have the game work so well for a change. (sings "You don't know what'cha got...til it's gone!")

These points could be spent to increase various aspects of a character such as strength, agi, crit chance, etc. As you got more points you could buy abilities like Flurry (A passive ability that sometimes gave you an extra attack when you swing), an AOE taunt (with a 10 min cooldown), etc.

World of Warcraft is doing a similar system in their expansion called the Titan's path. From what it sounds like, via questing you can unlock extra abilities for your character and passive bonuses. There are several paths to take and a character can respec them.
This calls to mind that mention of post-50 slots for characters. I've got quite a few character that could use that one. Those lvl 49 powers often beg for more slots...we need 5 slots at lvl 50 at least (it is lvl 50 after all...make it mean something). I may only have a couple of characters who wouldn't use that one.

    'Who is Jack?'

All I can say is it felt more like "give" after he left and we've gotten a LOT of cool things since with no let-up in sight.

No big hate against him, but I sure don't regret his exit.
  24. Awww man...still not fixed?

I haven't logged in for a couple of days because it's just too painful to play. This is starting to be a real problem.
  25. Just got an entire team broken up over this on Freedom. Had a nice 8 person team and about half of them got booted off while the rest of us were barely able to play. The mobs were actually disappearing the lag was so bad. We finally just gave up.

Went to Virtue...no problem as usual. This is a beating since I spend 95% of my time on Freedom.
