i'm of the opinion that it kinda sucks that mac players are getting a sweet power and costume set, and those of us that have been playing on pc for years now are getting a swift kick in the teeth. i want a valkyrie!
[/ QUOTE ]
You can buy the same Mac client and just use the code to get the goodies.
Or, wait for the store to offer them separately.
The Mac Client and the PC Client are using the same servers. So if you are on a PC, buy the Mac Client and get the code, and impress your friends. -
[ QUOTE ]
Please tell me there is a faster way to download the files. i have the app installed but it is downloading the files at 98 K/sec. this is going to take all night at this rate. on a 300K/sec DSL.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope, sorry.
Their server is throttled.
All sorts of people are grabbing the stuff.
Same thing happened when I13 went live. -
[ QUOTE ]
When does it stop pointing to the Training Room and start pointing to live??
[/ QUOTE ]
It doesn't.
Unlike the PC side, where you can alias the Updater and add "-test", the Mac Client App has information within it's contents to point to which server farm.
Not to worry.
There will be a "Test" Mac Client (which is the one you are downloading now) and a "Live" Client which points to the live servers.
"But now I have to have two installations of the client!" You moan.
Uh...you have two on the PC side also.

Double-click the .dmg file from the desktop
Drag icon to the applications folder
[/ QUOTE ]
That's about it, except for the 3rd step: Double-click the City of Heroes application and wait for it to patch up to date.

VidiotMaps/Badge-Hunter is ready to support the Macintosh with MapPack and Bindfile...
We are just waiting on some minor 'approval' to ensure that modifying the Mac Client does not break the EULA or Contract with TransGaming.
HeroStats does not work in the Mac envrionment, as it uses Windows .Net programming.
I (personally) do not know if Titan is going to cover the Mac -

So, what's needed to get into the Open Beta? I've got a Mac based friend who's been dying to play CoH since launch and peaked his interest when he learned the game was being ported. Can I send him the client link and let him try it out or does he need a Windows account to login to the beta?
[/ QUOTE ]
He/she needs a current authentication method to any of the clients.
Meaning: an account.
Sign him/her up for the trial (get the goodies from it) and let him/her create a character on test. It may take 24-48 hours for the trial account to carry over to test, but it is a free trial. Free trial restictions apply.
Or, be a bud, and have him/her get the test client, you sign in on test on his/her Mac with your account (EULA restrictions, you use your account to show him/her the game, don't give him/her your account/password).
With Closed and Open beta timelines, I fully expect the full Mac Client to be available end of year, beginning of next. -

That's right, we here at the City of Heroes/Villains community welcomes everyone who has a Mac to come try out the wonderfull game we PC Users have been playing for the past five years.
Yep. All ten of you.

Liquid, you have the most bizarre sense of humor that I have ever read in the forums. There are times when I do not know if you are serious, or just out to the "leg pulling".
But, the amount of Mac people that have been running Parallels, Boot Camp, Mac OS 10.5, or others would probably count more than 10.
Seriously, with the other MMO that can not be mentioned having a Mac client, it just made business sense to open it to another platform.
Besides, when running a Mac client, we do not worry about IE 7 and it's vulnerabilities because Mac does respect your browser choice, unlike the "other" side.
Besides, the colors are cooler.
Come to the Mac side Liquid, you will not regret it. -
Ex, please keep these threads active:
Cimarron
Protector 50s
Basically, any of those that are currently pinned.
Thank you. -

Ok..here is the hardware specs....Mac Mini is out :-(
[/ QUOTE ]
No surprise there. Apple made sure the Mini was worthless for heavy lifting out of the box.
[/ QUOTE ]
I use MacMinis for my DNS and DHCP servers, and the web server portion of it for minor items.
I use XServers for the heavy stuff.
My MacMini also has Vista and XP running through Parrallels Desktop.
Going to the DRM issue, it might be that they don't want Mac People to dual box on a single machine, because most Mac applications can run two instances at once, if you have enough horsepower. -
[ QUOTE ]
Done. And when CoH for Mac goes out of closed beta, you can all expect an All-New All-New Guide to Running CoH on a Mac.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah..
1. Start Mac
2. Double click Application (or single click dock icon)
3. Play.
Driver compatibilities? What be that? -
[ QUOTE ]
From what I understand, Mac uses a weird flavour of Linux anyhow.. so...?
[/ QUOTE ]
Darwin BSD.
With Boot Camp, you could make a Linux partition, just as others made XP or Vista partitions.
But, really, why dumb the Mac down?
slinks off before being called Mac Fanboi -
Won't run on the MacMini, since it has Intel GMA 950 graphics.

Kinda going crazy...as a Mac user been wanting this since forever (and since Jack Emmert said he had no intention of ever doing it), but the site will not allow me to submit my application. I've taken out all the offending symbols, pared my system info the bare minimum, tried different browsers on my Macs and my husband's PCs...nada.
Help me...help me please...

Same thing here, put all specifications in from "System Profiler", ended up just saying MacBook (as that is what I currently have.
But when this goes live, PC out window, Mac in the house. -

How will this affect people who have macs and already have accounts? (I dont have a Mac, I'm just wondering)

Your game account will work no matter which client you are using.

When starting the CoH Test Client I get an error:
<font class="small">Code:[/color]<hr /><pre>
An error has occured in the script on this page
Line: 159
Char: 1
Error: '_gat' is undefined

Do you want to continue running the scripts on this page? Yes/No
</pre><hr />
Selectting Yes finishes loading the CoH Test client. -
One of the consequences tho, is my RSS reader just alerted me to new announcements, dating back to 22 September 2008.
The server status page, anyway of making the graphics smaller so the servers show up quicker?
Is the server status page using the same code as previous, so those of us that have it on our fansites aren't going to get broken Java? -

The rest of the site (with links and content and everything) will be up later today. Thanks in advance for your patience!

What's really nice, is on a larger screen format, you get a larger picture.
My laptop has a 13" screen, but my Desktop has a 15".
Wish I could run home and see it on my 21" -

This was great! For once I didn't see it coming. I didn't read anything about it and was just playing as usual and all of a sudden zombies come up from under me!
I loved the surpise!

All the people hate the Hero Con were surprised too...
Especially, since most of us aren't anywhere near home. -

Congrats on killing badging for me. I am still working on the pillbox badges now i have to log out to earn those for a year, how is my badge toon supposed to get played?
[/ QUOTE ]
Speaking for myself, I started badging when they came out. But I focus on the "working" badges, i.e. defeat this number of enemies, kill this monsters, etc.
I went through a major altitis phase, getting up to filling my entire server slots WAY BEFORE they expanded them.
This gives me the opportunity to work on characters, and switch back to my older characters if someone asked for a specific archetype.
If you are a member of the Badge-Hunter forums, my latest post about i13 states that this will make being "Badge Leader" on each server and overall more competitive.
I'm looking forward to "Day Jobs", because after all, this is an RPG. -

Everyone and their dog beat me to the Facebook COH Fan Page.

Not me. I don't do Facebook. -
I got the GameCard, and I am on a monthly credit card payment...I continue.
All my characters fly, so on my 50, the speed difference between fly and the jet-pack is 10 MPH.
The Jump-Jet add-on works with the jet-pack (just can't see it unless the flames come out of the jump-jet).
It sort of looks like the Goldbricker's jet-pack, but it is red, blue and grey without the antenna.
The pack does invis when you are invisible, but the flames are still visible.
It is on the account, so new characters on the account during the time get it at level 1. You don't even get to use the Pocket D teleport until level 3, but this is available at level 1 during the time you have it.
When I picked mine up at target, there was no tax charged, so all you need is a $20 (USD) bill to get one.
Yes, $15 (USD) is good for 30 days of game time, when you buy a time card, but this is a game-card.
The problem is, since there is no CD/DVD with the card, you have to download the client from the FTP site.
But it is credit card size, and depending on the store, are easily located.
Plus, come on, a flight pack that hardly anyone else has?
When I was in Pocket D, showing people what it looked like, I was asked if I was a dev.
It is a thrill. -
mmmm...foood goood....
Actually, 50-70? Big crowd. Isn't that more than what we had at Indy M&G?
obligatory *first* -
Great, now I can get the other helmets (2) for a pre-order status of CoV.
As I only had 2 accounts at the time of CoV pre-order, and very limited store selection.
But, I also don't use the pre-order CoH sprint animations as I was not involved in the pre-order for that era.
As to the "extra" attacks...are they going to be the same limitation of origin? Nemesis staff works better for non-magical, while , quite frankly, the "Undead Slaying Axe" is currently only useful against fully Undead. And, last I saw, Ghost Widow is not considered "undead".
But this does follow the pattern, of "useful", "wow", and "what the hell were you thinking".
I am more intersted in the badges now that I was before, as for me, the powers are....bleh. -

The launcher is a separate program that opens a window to gives you access to all NC soft games on your system (CoH/CoV, CoH/CoV eu, Auto Assault....wait, what?). Kind of like a highlight that program and launch. The window would also have update information along side your applicable programs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ahhhhh...that thing.
I had it while I was in Tabula Rasa beta, but when I un-installed that, I lost the launcher also.
If we want the launcher, where do we go to get it?
