Quote:I'v got a thread over on the Scrapper Forums but here it is. Think I am 3 or 4% off on the ranged D.Don't be too complacent... I believe the difference between 40% and the cap cuts down on about 50% of attacks. If you are tapped out of ideas, you are tapped out; but I would go back to the drawing board and see if you can fit in some more defense somewhere. I personally might stop at 44% or so, but to stop at 40% isn't enough, IMO.
If you need help, you can always post your build somewhere here and there are people who love doing builds that can give some pointers.

Quote:Currently I'm at 40% AoE D, so I suppose I am good togo.Of the three positional defense types AoE is probably the least important for a melee character.
NPCs tend to have fewer AoE powers than ranged/melee and they tend to be on longer recharge timers than other powers. That being said you shouldn't neglect AoE defense entirely. I'd aim for at least 35% AoE defense even if you have to sacrifice some Ranged/Melee defense to do so. -
How important is AoE Defense to ya? I'm here sweating my build trying to cap AoE D and I dont think I can do it on SD without sac'n to much Recharge.
So question is Like ranged and Melee D is AoE a Live or Die Defense? -
Ok reworked it a little
http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...69FA07E67DEEAB
Lost a touch on the recharge got Positionals to Softcap except for AoE which is at 40% -
Quote:Wasn't sure where to put the slots, as for Phalanx fighting I had forgotten about setting that up I was just checking it out....rework time. I dont know if its a bug but Phalanx Fighting seems to count yourself, atm I am totally alone and getting 3.75%I've opened up your build and there are still 5 slots left to be placed. Is that a bug, or have you not decided on where they should go yet?
I would always leave Phalanx Fighting down at 0 players around you. The only time that part of the power is reliable is when everyone is huddled around for an AV beatdown. With Phalanx Fighting set to 0, the build is currently giving up a huge amount of survivability for its recharge.
I can tweak the build for you later, if nobody has given a build by then. -
This build is made more for a brute but I didnt think there was much difference between scrappers and brutes build wise and seeing as the Scrapper Thread is a little more active I thought I'd look for help here.
Built around recharge and Defense, 145% Recharge and Softcap Positionals. Just want to make sure I cant do much more with the slots and sets. Also at this moment its a purple free build, but will always take suggestions.

Quote:Think I gotca Dark Melees last attack does 189 for a Scrapper and for a Brute it does 115. With all your saying a Scrapper would come out on top but yea a brute is close behind. Thank you Sirs I can now make a Scrapper =)Your numbers are right, but you're not including enhancements. By the mid-20's, you can have 95% damage enhancement in every attack, which changes the ratios in favor of the scrapper. Also, scrappers have criticals, receive larger damage bonuses from powers like Build Up, and benefit more from damage buffs and red inspirations due to their higher base damage.
A brute is not far behind as long as he can keep his Fury bar full, though. -
Quote:Could ya point me to a thread about it kinda intrested.Discussed many times. Used to be arguably true. Not so much now after the Fury changes. I have not looked into it personally, just reporting the Scrapper forum consensus. (You will likely do better damage at a lower level. I'm talking about end game.)
We don't have anything against Brutes. Many of us play Brutes too. We often discuss Brutes on the Scrapper forum. But you play Brutes for the better survivability or the better aggro control or what not, not for the damage.
Way I look at it in 5 second I am normally 100% damage.
Damage scale Scrapper is at a 1.125 while a Brute is at a .75. So 100 damage attack a brute will do 75 while a Scrapper does 115, Add in 5 seconds of combat for fury and ya get a easy 100% for 150 Damage. More combat time more damage, I in about 10s I can grab 150+%. Kinda just wanting to know if my thinking/Math is wrong here. -
I know I will probably get chopped up into little peices posting here on the scrappers forums but I'd go Brute instead of a scrapper for Dual Blades. While the starting damage is better but after 5 seconds in a fight a Brute will be dishing out more damage then a scrapper, along with more HP.
I second the willpower as secondary, its not to clickie and pairs very well with some Defensive Enh sets. -
Great Vid.
Just Remember Haters gonna Hate.
-
Forget a Hero and roll a Brute. Its a Scrapper and a Tank all in 1 body. And then if ya still miss blue side just change alignment.
-
I'm old school but I do love a Double Rage, Almost Maxed Fury, FE Fueled Fireball thrown by my SS/FA Brute....just feels right and it makes me laugh when I take out a grp of +2 Minions in 1 shot.
-
Quote:Hehe totally understand that, I have a RL buddy whos character always has SS on b/c he has to run fast. I view travel powers as a concept or a luxury, when it comes down to it I normally need that extra power for something that helps me kill faster or take that hit alot better. That said if ya never played Champions Online my favorite travel power was Acrobatics which in that was like having Super Jump and Super Speed on at the same time which ninja spd/beast run is close to.My characters MUST have capped run speed or I'm not happy. I do the ninja/beast/sprint/swift/hurdle thing as a lowbie but as soon as I fix endurance enough to leave SS on its a must have.
I do understand the running into walls problem though it takes a ton of practice and a fast computer to make it work right, and in cave you kinda have to learn to use the walls to your advantage rather than detriment.
When I plan out a character for my wife I always always have to have fly in it or some travel power but normally fly, so I understand the play-style. -
Fell in love with the Fireball Animation and I am loving Char for the stacking Hold so decided to work up a build with Prye
Gotta say it comes out better then my last...
Defense
38% Melee
22% Ranged
34% S/L
25% E/N
And a little more Recharge 130%(W/hasten)
I have no endo issues if I dont spam FS so I tried to fix that on this build by playing around with IOs on FS.

Quote:Beast Run or Ninja Run with 50 Spd Enhancements in Sprint, Swift and Hurdle is a great mix between SS and Super Jumping. SS is faster specially with those enhancements too but I find most of the time I am just running into walls. My favorite part of the forums is looking at other people builds and seeing all the things that everyone does differently.
I lol'd just now when I noticed that neither or you have a true travel power in the build. Nothing wrong with this but it doesn't fit my play-style.
All my characters have SS and SJ because my VG are avid speed TF'ers and its just the fastest way to get around. SS is always running on everyone of my characters and at this point I can hardly function in the game without it.
@Twilight_Snow, I thought about going with Type before this SS brute I had a DB/FA Brute that had great Type Def it was ok. This new Brute not even being done with his build and only at 30% Melee and 20% Ranged I feel a huge different in defense.
I am interested in looking at your build though can you toss down a Data Chunk? -
Quote:This I have consume up almost every minute while farming with this guy endo is no problem(that is I dont use any blues). Out in General Play the only time I have issues with endo is when its a long fight and I'm FS all over the place.Consume keeps you from huffing and puffing and Oblits worked great on my Claws/Fire.
All my other attacks are 5-9 Endo each while FS is at a 18 so I think when I log in tonight gonna check around and pull out the Eradication set and find another with better endo management.
Yes this is a live build and it works wonders in Farming and Play 3 lvls till 50 not sure if I am going to go with the Endo Alpha or the Recharge. -
-
Quote:I did the Oblit set in Blazing for the set bonuses, as for working both typed and positionals I really worked more on Positional I just got typed as well. And yea CJ is taken much eariler, was late and I just put in the powers that I would be gettin none are really in any leveling order.Obliteration really isn't a good set for a damage aura. It's got a bunch of recharge enhancement (which a toggle doesn't really need), about half a SO of End Reduction (which a damage aura DOES need), and a proc (which is pretty underwhelming in a toggle).
Working both positional and typed defenses isn't your best use of resources. Yes, having both is going to protect you more often than having just one, but I personally feel that the return isn't high enough to justify the extra slots and expense.
I'd take Combat Jumping earlier, and push all the Concealment pool back. CJ and Stealth give the same +def, CJ buffs your movement, where Stealth reduces it, and CJ provides Immob protection, which Fire only gets through Burn otherwise. Of course, if you have no intention of exemplaring, this doesn't really matter.
I can't open the build (they don't make Mids' for phones yet), so I can't comment on anything else; that's just what I noticed looking over the post. -
After some pluggin and chuggin I finally came up with a semi cheap(compared to purples) SS/FA Brute Build that has a solid Recharge and Defense. Soul Mastery be Switched out for Mu easy. Build is made for Farming and General Play. The build below doesn't reflect it but most of the sets depending on the lvl I got the power will be in the range of 38 so when doing lvl 35 content I still have the set bonuses.
Little pre-show.....
+123% Global Recharge(w/Hasten)
As long as FF procs in FS at least once I will have Perma Haste(I think)
6s Recharge FS
8s Recharge Burn
Defense is 1-2 Small Purps from Softcap which is fine for me as
33.8% Melee Def
24.1 Ranged Def
13 AoE Def
32 S/L Def
25 E/N Def
15 Health a Second Regen
52 S/L Resist
90 Fire Resist

I really dont see how a Scrapper is better damage then a Brute?
Scrapper is 1.25 on the Damage Scale, a Brute is .75 this means that a Scrapper does 50% more damage or in a way a 50% damage bonus.
A Scrapper will start out doing more damage but after 5 seconds a Brute will be doing more damage. Fury is not hard to keep up at all, it builds up to 150% Damage very quick now. A Brute will normally run at an easy 150% which would be 2.25 damage scale. A Scrapper gets the crit damage to boost but its not really consistent. My Math may be all wrong but unless you are fighting 1 mob at a time then a brute will do more damage.
My Vote is for Brute -
Building a SS/Fire Brute and looking to to do a balance between Farming and Regular play so looking for something that is 1 purple away from Softcap and with enough recharge I can keep a perma-haste maybe a little more. The APP and Hover/Fly are optional. Limit purple sets to 1 maybe 2 if any. Here is my first try at a build. While I could run 2 builds one for farming and one for regular play I would like to try to make a good all round build.

Ahh ty with the wiki seems like they have everything just I suck at navigating to find what I am looking for.
-
I gotta be over looking some stuff here, trying to softcap or bring my DB/Fire Brute close to softcap and so far I'v been able to get 30% Melee and 28% S/L I have around 15% Ranged and AoE but thats more from defensive powers then from set bonuses. I have taken any looks around the black market and still dont find the equivalent of kinetic combat for ranged/aoe.
What sets do I need to look at for ranged/aoe D and E/N D? -
Like someone else said Fire overall brings the AoE.
An interesting AoE build I wanna try is Elec/Shield Brute. You have 2 Teleport attack large radius AoEs along with your APP and a couple from Elec. With enough recharge you should have the Port AoEs up alot.
