Some powers you really NEED to frankenslot. Energy absorption is a good example of this. You want the recharge, defense, and endurance modification to be as close to maximum as possible.
Energy absorption will do amazing things for your survival not only because it can be double-stacked, but once you have it slotted for all three above, it can also keep enemies almost drained of endurance, and your defense will take a healthy boost Even when it is only used on one enemy!
Hoarfrost should also be strongly frankenslotted for resistance/recharge/healing, because once you get hoarfrost near-permanent, it will nearly double your survival, and the toxic resistance in hoarfrost is pretty much all the toxic resistance you will ever get. -
The heal is very reliable. 4 slot Accurate Healing and your set. Also being a to-hit heal it normally heals twice the ammount of an aura heal.

The RoA comment is true.
Assault Rifle is a cone but there is no draw time on it. You don't have to worry about not having AIM because of FS.
Flamethrower is a non-lethal damage type along with Ignite.
Bean bag is a nice stun.
Sniper Rifle is one of the stronger Snipes minus the fact it is lethal damage which is highly resistance in some cases.
I have a Kin / Archer and would switch to AR in a second if I could. -
I have been doing this character for awhile and I have an idea of what I want my problem is the power selection is what is kinda holding me back.
I would like to have Medical for the Rez ability I feel all defenders should be able to rez.
And the electrical Epic pool seems like a nice choice.
Nice AoE attack/stun and good armor along with a second hold with shocking bolt.
And I was wondering if people could post a few SO's builds so I can get an idea of what people are working with. -
Device if your going for damage output is pretty weak to take with AR.. I'd rather have a 10 sec 100% boost when i want it than a flat 33% at all times Sniper Rifle is a front loaded weapon. You wana hit them so hard they can turn to see who shot them. Sniper Buckshot can almost 2 shot some Orange Minnion lvl mobs and I don't have a proc in it yet.

LMR does amazing damage when slotted for damage. Its an AOE snipe I don't care if I can't use it but every other fight the damage output is WELL worth it for the times you do get it off. Over 500 damage in an AOE that is not a nuke.

well I have been thinking of trying this slot also do you think LMR is a good place to put it? Its a knock back power with a huge recahrge timmer thats AOE.

I'll go power by power here.
This is not what is right, wrong, or bad but just my views on your Power/IO selection. (Purely Opinion which is why I post for responses)
Level 1: Transfusion (5 slots)
I like 5 slot Touch of the Nictus. (I would leave out the damage proc)
That last Set Bonus just isn't worth it to me.
I enjoy the increased healing and defense the set provides. (Might be wrong)
Level 2: Aimed Shot / Snap Shot
Here I could go either way but in the end I really see only needed one of these powers and I am leaning towards Aimed Shot this ensures I don't have healing or transferance powers waiting while I'm blasting.
The interesting thing about a Kin is +damage is pretty much built in with FS and SP. (I'll get into SP later)
So taking the entropic is not that I have used it not a bad choice. The chance for build up is so short in duration that it is easy to miss, and FS makes it kinda pointless since you should be capped anyways at 300%.
Level 4: Fistful of Arrows
Pure delicious AOE Damage to add to Rain of Arrows.
I would get the full 6 Slots and Finish out positron or maybe add a lvl 50 IO. (I need to review the set bonuses)
Level 6: Siphon Speed (4 slots)
This is your personal haste.
Without Expensive sets and IO's I would 4 slot it.
2 Accuracy it has a nice recharge timmer and 2 Recharge lvl 50 Each.
Now after all sets are complete this might drop since the set bonus to accuracy might make the 2 IO's pointless. Until then you need this power to hit.
Level 8: Hasten (3 slots)
3 Recharge pretty standard
Powers have such a quick cool down that I could see not getting this till 30 since most of the major TF are 35ish. Some are lower but most of our powers are low time wise save Syphon Speed.
Level 10: Hover (2 slots)
First major disagreement.
I would not 3 slot for the full blessing set.
Main thing to me is the Set bonus to defense and thats at 2 parts.
If you want the KB take the KB protection,and the Run Speed, Jump, Flight Speed, Range/Endurance.
Level 12: Hurdle (No slots)
Preference vs Swift
Since you took fly powers I'd have gone with swift.
Level 14: Health (3 slots)
(I'm not sure on set bonuses will edit)
Miracle - +Recovery
Numina's Convalescence - +Regeneration/+Recovery
Regenerative Tissue - +Regeneration
Level 22: Stamina (2 or 3 slots)
50 IO Enduance Mod (Optional)
Performance Shifter - EndMod
Performance Shifter - Chance for +End
Level 24: Speed Boost (? slots)
This is an interesting power because for certian classes it is a god send. It doesn't need accuracy cause it always hits. Does not need recharge cause it is so fast to recover on its own.
What it can use I plan to try is Performance Shifter.
+End Mod and chance for End Mod as one of the more commonly use powers nice way to buff your end back up after a fight, and for 2 slots 5% movement boost.
In theory at least.
For now I have End Mod IO's in it. Everyone likes End.
Level 26: Transference (6 slots)
Now this is kinda easy on the slotting with 3 perfomance shifters. I feel a full set of Efficacy Adaptor for the accuracy and recharge bouns is a better fit. When this hits I want it to fully restore someone from even 0 End making it nice to use after a nuke because I don't have AB great for PBAoE nukes.
Level 28: Fly
Same as Hover I really only 2 slot for the speed and defense boost from blessings. Super Speed takes care of the stealth issue. Though I am interested if the +stealth applies even when in combat from the Freebird set.
Level 30: Ranged Shot
Kinda preference here.. Not big on sniper damage with the penalty we already have as Defenders. I would take would take blazing first.
Level 32: Fulcrum Shift (Perfect Agreement)

Slotting here depends on set. With thunderstrike 6 for the defense. Otherwise might go 5 but the damage procs are nice. I think I would stick with Thunderstrike myself.

This is what it was all for FS / Rain of Arrows no DOWN TIME.

Explosive Arrow & Repel
The reason for these is kinda odd cause honestly they waste space.
But they provide me with 6 KB protection from the Knockback set bonus.
Why MEDICAL???!!!
Well I really wanted it on a toon and this one being a defender has one weakness a defender should not have I CANNOT REZ!
Medical gives me the rez ability and lets me boost my healing through set bonuses. 500+ Transfusion heals.
Siphon Power
Why Siphon Power? It affects an entire group its an AoE damage debuff for 25% That 25% damage gone, in addtion to FS. Its a damage buff for your team thats is centered around you NOT the mobs your fighting. The more important aspect. Some mobs you do not want to be near. Or lets face it sometimes the tank/scrapper simply cannot hold aggro properly and you do not want to die every mob. The bad side absolutely NO Sets work in it. -

Do you need a purple build for a regen scrapper to be effective?

The heal from Fire once you get it slotted though makes a world of difference. Right now I'm healing for 666 Hp every time my heal is needed which is a pretty decent heal.

This was my Kin / Archery Defender
I went a different route for him since alot of the Kin stuff cannot be IO'd
Took the medical field and tried to maxize his healing with slotting.
It also gave a Rez and some single target heals which the Kin set is lacking.
Thoughts and comments please
KB sets at the end are purely for the protection, but they might work decent solo not for use in teams. (These are purely so I can use the set I'm aware the better use of slots could be made)
Ended up with some nice recharge time bonus and some heal bonus.

Honestly, Darkest Night while nasty is hard to use in groups because mobs die so quickly.
Tendrils / Stare gives a nice Burst Debuff if the group is moving quickly and don't have time for a DN. Though it is normally my first option.
DN / Tar Pit are for AV and other strong mobs though Tar Pit is pretty universal
Damage is someone elses job I just make sure no one gets hit and heal a ton -
Hmm, KB Prot in Shadowfall is something I didn't think of.
I do use hover almost exculsivly.
I could trade out hurdle for swift but that was kinda just preference.
Cloud sense does psionic damage proc 71 points which is real nice.
And increases the to-hit debuff greatly which is the aim for this guy.
This is more a debuff build than damage. I'd have got a bit different if I were trying for damage. -
This is currently my highest IO'd toon and I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas I might have overlooked SO wise.

The clear mind thing make alot of sense. The reason I 6 sloted RA is to get the recharge bonus from the set. In the IO build. If moving to Fort is a better choice then I can make that adjustment

Wow wasn't expecting a reply to the build I was posting it for a friend.
She is not a Tech / Defender I just never changed that setting in Mids she is magic.
On Resurect and Clearmind. You can't have any sets in those and the do 100% of what they do no matter how you slot them So I'm not sure where I went wrong with those.
Are you saying they should have fewer slots? (clearmind / resurrect)
I would have put more into for but Saff wanted a more offensive build so Fort had to take a bit of a hit. And I really don't like any of the defensive set bonuses. None of them.
This is also more of a team play build so if the tank is doing his job defense won't matter because she will never be a target. (good tanking beats a high defense)
Now the slotting on AB your right about SO wise I didn't think of it that way. I'll make that change. I've never played an Emp so this build was a bit of a first time for me.
Set bonus wise what I was going for was increased recharge time.

I figure healing 1200 or 1250 wasn't that big a deal if you can knock another 1 or 2 off the recharge time and simply heal faster.
It is also the reason I 3 slotted the Rez and Clearmind
Leaves about a 20 sec window with hasten, and 10 sec window with AB.
I like to call this an econmy build because we cannot afford the power IO like LotG and stuff. But this one can be completed and be quite effective.
It also gives her some firepower with the Positon Blast IO's. -
