Kinetic / Archery Defender
For rez, you could also use the dayjob Physician ( http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Physician_Badge ).
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
My suggestion is to go with the day job power, its easy to get. The great thing about Kin defenders is their lack of reliance on pool powers. They dont need to take travel powers, depending on your playstyle you dont even need to take the fitness pool ( understand im saying "need" alot of people like to maximize slotting etc. im just saying its not totally necessary) which means you can take a bunch of your primary and secondary powers. Most defenders have to pick and choose the couple of secondary powers that they can squeeze into the build after taking travel powers/fitness/leadership etc. Kins dont need that. save the power selections for some crazy fun arrow dispensing satisfaction. it can big a big bunch of fun.
That's your prerogative, but I really don't think a rez is worth wasting two power choices on. Kinetics already has Transfusion and Increase Density so you won't get much use out of the other medicine powers. In general you'll be better if you use those choices for something use (leadership maybe?) and carry extra wakies.

Packing some big rez pills works pretty well for a combat rez, you can remove the Stun with Increase Density and provide end and health via Transfusion and Transference if you're quick.
I've managed to pull this off when dual-boxing, whether doing this to another human player would be harder or easier, Im not sure.
Kin/Arch is a bit of an odd pairing in that Kin is very close up and Archery is very good at ranged. I'd maybe suggest the Darkness epic pool simply for Oppressive Gloom. It lets you get into a big bunch of minions much more safely for Fulcrum Shift, and also stacks with Stunning Shot for mezzing boss level enemies.
Thunderstrike's stun is only 50%, it only applies the majority of its damage to the single target, and it scatters everyone with its KB, which isnt so good for Fulcrum, or Fistful of Arrows afterwards.
I chose Psychic Mastery myself, Mass Hypnosis and Dominate have come in very handy for myself and my teams.
Thunderstrike is very positional, I use it to knock stragglers into the tanks heap or to clear/lessen mobs heading for me. Air Superiority slotted with with Pounding Slugfest: Chance to Disorient comes in handy for those melee needs, and it recharges quickly.
I have been doing this character for awhile and I have an idea of what I want my problem is the power selection is what is kinda holding me back.
I would like to have Medical for the Rez ability I feel all defenders should be able to rez. And the electrical Epic pool seems like a nice choice. Nice AoE attack/stun and good armor along with a second hold with shocking bolt. And I was wondering if people could post a few SO's builds so I can get an idea of what people are working with. |
Using the Physician dayjob power is the best idea sinced slice bread, for those non-rezzing primaries....
as for power selection holding you back - the Medicine pool using 3 unneccessary powers will be holding you back severely

Ive found that I didn't need Stamina at all on my Kin/Arch and he runs the 3 leadership toggles. As long as you slot your powers for a End Reduction and take Transference (and slot it ASAP) then Ive not had any problems. Yeah, you get the odd time when it misses or you/the enemy gets knocked away but if you have hasten it recharges quick enough and you can carry the odd blue just in case.
Acrobatics has been a big help for my Def Kin. I would not worry about rezzing. The team can just bring thier own wakies. It's not expected of you.
finally get use to "SB please." It will get annoying fast, but it is your job.

As for epic selection, I went with Psychic Mastery. I stacked Tough and Mind Over Body for good resistance to smashing and lethal, since Kins can draw a crowd. I also got Dominate, Telekinesis, and Mass Hypnosis. They're great support powers that keep enemies locked down when solo or on teams, plus Mass Hypnosis is great for an IO mule. Also, Transference and Telekinesis were made to be together. :P
As for Leadership and Stamina, I went for Stamina out of habit and skipped Leadership. It was a personal preference. I'm thinking about putting Assault and Tactics into my build instead of Kick and Tough, at least on my 2nd build. Assault isn't much compared to Siphon Power or FS, but you're a Defender, so you take whatever you can get in terms of damage.
I love the combo because I can fire off a FS Boosted RoA on command, and so I stacked in some recharge and Accuracy in Siphon Speed and grabbed Hasten. Even with the Psychic Mastery powers, which I use a whole lot, I don't have any endurance problems unless I miss Transference or do something dumb, like forget to turn off Telekinesis.
I'm trying to figure out what will be the most fun playstyle for my Kin/Archer Defender. I'm finally hitting the Epics and thinking of burning a respec to put her together. I have a great back story for my toon and I really am starting to like this one and think it might be my first 50.
What I like about Archery is that Rain of Arrows is a big attack that is up pretty often freeing me up to use my Kinetic powers inbetween bursts of decent damage. The best way I've found around redraw is cycle using your kin powers with short bursts of Archery Powers bundled together. I also don't feel like I need to take a ton of Archery Powers with the build since they all recharge so fast and Rain of Arrows is up so often.
Advice on Powers to avoid is appreciated.
Power Pools:
Leadership - For at least Tactics and Manuevers
Speed - For Hasten
Fighting - For Tough and Weave
Not sure about the last Pool, I'm thinking whatever I can squeeze the most defense out of or Fitness. I know I can get Stealth IO's, but I've also thought of picking up Stealth here.
Can a Kin get decent enough Defense to be useful? If so I'd love it for the "mez" protection. But the extra defense seems important when you are running around with so many Area of Effect Powers.
Epics, I'm torn? I lean towards Psychic because I think it has the best solo Epic for a Kin/Archer, not that I solo a ton with this toon, but I like to be able to. But both Dark Epic and Power Epic seem to have some real possible upsides. I love to hear other people's experiences.
1. Dark has:
Dark Consumption - Possibly could help skip Stanima
Oppressive Gloom - Great for stuns and can stack stuns with Stunning Arrow if you take it
Dark Embrace -- Decent shield
Soul Transfer - Self Rez, kinda nice Kin's tend to be glass cannons in the fire all the time
Soul Drain - Often I can good damage without this kind of boost, but extra accuracy is nice
2. Electric has:
Electric Fence - ?
Thunderstrike - ?
Shocking Bolt - ?
Charged Armor - Probably the best sheild available
Power Sink - Could help skip Stanima
Not much else am I missing something?
3. Power Mastery has:
Conserve Power - Less good for going without Stanima, but I might be able to go stanima less anyway
Power Build Up - Nice for boosting Defense right before taking an alpha strike. Only lasts 10 seconds
Temporary Invulnerablity - Ok shield
Force of Nature - If this has Mez protection, I'd do it. But I don't see it in the descriptions
Total Focus - At least this looks like it could be used in conjunction with Force of Nature to protect you.
4. Pyschic Mastery has:
Dominate - Hold
Mass Hypnosis - AoE sleep, which is nice when you solo so that you can buff while stealthed, I'm not sure how fun a playstyle this would be?
Mind Over Body - Decent Shield, rather resistance to Psychic
World of Confusion - Unusual Power, requires a lot of slotting to work at all. Provides some mitigation when slotted. You can probably use this while stealthed.?
Telekinesis - I'm not sure how this compares with Repel in the Primary. With some real skill you might help yourself by lining up AoE's and grouping. But it burns lots of Endurance and is situational and difficult to use. I don't mind learning to use something correctly, but I want to know a power has real applications.
Yeah Rain of Arrows is your cannon. Don't pass this up. Everything is well ..meh...you are a defender after all~ There is one more attack you might want to take. I think it's called Fire arrow or combustion arrow ..something like that. It's a Single target attack and it is also very good. Everything else from a DPS stand point I found a pass.
Acrobatics has been a big help for my Def Kin. I would not worry about rezzing. The team can just bring thier own wakies. It's not expected of you. finally get use to "SB please." It will get annoying fast, but it is your job. |
As for SB, it's part of the job. I've got no issue with keeping it applied, or remembering who doesn't want it. I guess with my Kin/Arch being my very first character, I didn't realize that they were supposed to be a pain in the tuckus. And I've got two of them, at 50.
