I can't follow Marvel's numbering system any more, either, so I've stopped trying. Is it number 15 or number 500 of Spider-Man? Who knows?
Renumbering Action Comics is beyond stupid. In 2019 they hit issue 1,000. Look forward, you idjits. -
616 Thor after the reboot/redesign:
Ultimate Universe Thor:
-
As I mentioned upthread, the costume comes from Olivier Copiel's redesign when Straczynski took over the book. The UU Thor basically wears a leather vest and leather pants and has a belt that apparently gives him his power. I haven't read Ultimate Thor, but in the rest of the UU books, he appears to be a delusional hippie who has a piece of high-tech gear that mimics the god of thunder's abilities.
-
So far, the only things that have come from the Ultimate universe is Nick Fury being Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Banner working on the Super Soldier formula. Nothing in Thor was from the UU. (Orson Scott Card's Ultimate Iron Man was so terrible, in fact, that everyone else went, "Wha--?" and they immediately retconned it into being a fictional story *within* the UU. Editorial really dropped the ball on that one.)

Quote:Yeah, I'm not sure how you get to that conclusion. Whether people believe what their religion teaches is an entirely separate (and thread-lockable) discussion. It depends on what you mean.
if we're talking mainstream, which is the general populous, I'd have a few page pamphlet, if that. Most people don't believe 99% of what the canon of their religion says.
I think going off that is ludricrious. How would I or anyone possibly know what 40,000 sects believe and then know what each individual believe as individuals of sects don't believe the same thing as what is accepted as the canon of their sect.
No, instead I would much rather go off the majority representative in this case which is the catholic church which in the case of christianity. And as such Norse mythology as well as many of those other mythologies are canon and accepted by the catholic church. Whether Catholics believe that is another story.
It's kinda like if the president ordered torture... well I don't agree with it, but the majority representative does and as such i can't be mad at a person when someone says i support torture.
The core tenets of Norse mythology, such as its creation myth, its view of the apocalypse, the nine worlds, animal spirits... that's tantamount to saying that Christianity takes as a core belief the Native American notion that Earth resides on the back of a giant turtle. Much of what we know of Norse mythology comes from sources *after* Christianity had already established a firm foothold, so there was a lot of cross-pollination between the two. Meaning that existing Norse myth is very likely borrowing bits of Christianity and has stuff that is in direct reaction against Catholicism in particular. -
You used the word "accepted." That's inaccurate. Yes, early Christianity and then Catholicism co-opted pagan religions, but you're implying an entirely different level of integration where mainline Catholic dogma and mainstream Christians welcome core beliefs of the Norse myths, which is patently false.

The only comic book character whose abilities mirror the in-game powerset of Willpower that I can think of is the Hulk. The madder Hulk gets, etc. He rises to the challenge, the more enemies he faces the better he seems to be, and so on.

The less-cliche characters, from an alternate Earth where the USSR didn't collapse. A soldier and scientist working on the Tunguska event were having a tryst when the equipment suffered an mishap (ain't is always the way?) and were transported to Primal Earth.

...because the lag is so bad it's a slideshow and I keep getting 'served. I'm not going to continue unless badges are involved.
And on the Freedom one, is that badge handed out at the beginning or at the end? If it's this bad on Champion, there's no way I can participate on Freedom beyond their arrival. -
Quote:As mentioned earlier in this thread, Hogun is the last surviving member of his race and has taken refuge among the Aesir (aka "Norse Gods").To me the interracial casting seemed more racist than complaining about it. I agree with Coach Hines that Norse gods ought to be Norse.
I had no problem with Michael Clarke Duncan playing the Kingpin in Daredevil, and I would've had no problem with Zoe Saldana or Grace Park playing Jane Foster in Thor, but to make a Norse god African American was just jarring. Hogun was a jarring as well, but after looking at the comics again, I can see interpretting that character as Asian.
Quote:I'll let this go after this post but if you're going to play the "Marvel Comics interpretation of Norse myth" card...

His complexion looks fairly Nordic in all the comcis references listed on their wiki. -
Quote:I don't even know what you're talking about, man. Are you calling my cousin a nitwit or are saying the people who want spoilers are nitwits? If hearing the ending would have ruined the experience for him, it wouldn't be a "cool" movie. The real problem is all the ADD-headed buffoons who think things can't be enjoyable when they're not shiny and new. Those kids need to get off my lawn, where the grass is old and dry and I like it that way.

Quote:Based on what I've seen so far, the SOE outage is one of the nails in the coffin for DCUO. Their subscribers have been falling dramatically since expiration of the first month -- to the point where they're merging the servers and the players have been asking for a F2P conversion. No, that's an objective one. I personally don't like the game (character creation was too limited), but I am not going to delude myself to believe that it is a failure and CoH is the pinnacle of video games. I love this game. It's fun to play and I don't need to invest much time into it to accomplish something, but the game does need to improve.
Mod5, I know... no need to send me a PM for this one. -
Quote:Oh, hell yeah! I have 3 characters right now who could use that.FX ENHANCED "CIRCUITRY" COSTUME PIECES REQUEST
One of the really cool costume textures that already exists in the game is Circuitry. The only flaw with it is ... it's a static pattern. This is one costume texture that really begs for animated FX. The only problem is ... we don't have a "3rd color" option for any sort of Circuitry animation!
BUT ... we do have the Flourescent Parts of costumes that you can see on the Resistance Chest Detail, Resistance Shoulders, Resistance Gloves and on the Tucked In Resistance Pants. All of these Flourescent Parts have colors that correspond to the standard costume palette set.
So ... here's what would be really wonderful to see ...
Circuitry - Fixed
This is essentially the legacy Circuitry texture, unchanged.
Circuitry - Slow
This would be an FX Enhanced version of the legacy Circuitry texture, which would involve an "animation layer" of moving flourescent lighting following the circuit patterns of the underlying texture in a way which makes the lit particles "flow" along the circuits in a "Tron-like" fashion. The circuit patterns and the flourescent FX would both use COLOR 2 for their color assignments, but the flourescent coloring would be brighter (especially in darkness), allowing the animated lit particles to be seen easily. Any flourescent particles would move "slowly" through the circuit patterns with this option. 10 second animation cycle?
Circuitry - Moderate
Same as the slow above, but the animation speed of the particles around the circuit paths would be quicker. 6 second animation cycle.
Circuitry - Fast
Same as the slow and moderate above, but fast enough to pulse a complete cycle of animation every 3 seconds.
Combat Only and Always On versions of the above could be (relatively) easily made.
The reason why I recommend doing this as an alternative costume texture (composite), rather than as an Aura is that there are plenty of costumes which use Circuitry textures on only parts of the costume, not all of it ... and Auras are (often) an All Or Nothing deal which don't allow for the mix'n'match of costume pieces in the way that a "Circuitry Aura" would require (to do RIGHT). -
There actually is a way to do it. No, I won't tell you how.
-
What a weird yet accurate analogy.

I'm not much of an artist, but I'm in the Envisionaries (Liberty) with Expressionist. (I can never bring myself to duplicate a character any more.)

Quote:I was digging the pilot up until Wash got to the line, "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!" And then I was full steam ahead. I was terribly disappointed by the train robbery episode, but I gave it another chance and was very glad I did.Huh, I didn't know that about The Train Robbery episode. I usually get thrown off by that one after watching the pilot, as the pilot is much more serious: the train robbery one starts to pick up the humor that goes with the seriousness the show can offer.
I don't know if I entirely like the pilot, though... like all pilots, it's rather rough and doesn't do the show quite right (not that I have ever seen a pilot that is not like this). It introduces things well for the show, but other things felt off: I didn't really start to like the movie until the third episode, to be honest. Shindig is the one that really sealed the deal on my love for it, though. -
Quote:C'mon over to my house; I'll play you both the original Williams version and the Ottman version and you can explode from the awesome of hearing music.*Who cares about what happened. Who cares if he wore the costume/didn't wear the costume. Who cares about Lex, or Darkseid...
THEY PLAYED THE THEME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote:Look! Something shiny!Early reviews from Parade magazine and (Spoilers)Ain't it Cool News(Spoilers) seem to think that the film is, at least, not-so-suckish.
This gives me hope. From what I've read I can raise my personal expectations a bit. Supposedly the first part of the movie will be very plot heavy (wut?) lead into developments, and wrap up with about an hour of pure action in the Chicago invasion. Gets me excited.
