Although I don't share the view, I do understand people who don't want Fortunes for concept reasons because they do last a very long time.

Generally I'm happy to be buffed with two exceptions:
    1) Disruption Field - more a buff by default than a true but I find the rings a bit disconcerting
    2) Speed Boost - I very rarely have any interest in this because ** for me ** the negatives outweight the positive

I do not understand why CoX has not yet implimented a system of buff prompts.
    At the very least:
    * Accept all buffs
    * Decline all buffs
    * Accept team buffs only

I understand that it would be too hard to have an entire list of buffs to be accepted to declined in the menu options; but couldn't the above be done?

I don't really understand the grumpyness about this; tolerate someone elses point of view and try and find the most satisfactory answer for all.

When power customization came out, I pretty much stopped playing melee because everyone's brilliant powers made it really hard to see. When I do power customization, I try to ensure people aren't going to get blinded and anything which has the potential to be annoying (EG Wormhole) or leaves me in danger (EG any nuke) is obvious.
There's already one for "Prompt Team Teleport." Just add it there.

And give me my **** back.
  2. I would just like to say: WHAT. THE. ****?

I just noticed yesterday that the emails I set to myself are missing. I had assumed it was just because that particular character couldn't see them for whatever reason, but logging in another character verified the emails were gone. I didn't panic, because Global chat servers go offline all the time, too.

But now you guys are telling me that you just deleted our stuff because you FELT LIKE IT? And gave us no warning whatsoever?

    Nice.

By "nice" what I mean to say is: "I would like my goddamned **** back."

Yes. Something that comes straight down from overhead, that really looks like it would cleave someone in twain.
  6. I really, really like the Fire Blaster snipe, Blazing Bolt. It's cool how the character seems to summon it up from within and then release this torrent of flame. It's one of my favorite animations in the entire game. (Although a lot of MA and DB are sweet, as well.)

Would it be possible to get similar-yet-different animations for other energy snipes? The Bitter Ice Blast is pretty good, but Energy Blast could use an alternate animation where the character taps into their very soul to discharge a powerful volley. Maybe something a little more evocative for the Psychic snipe, Psionic Lance. Something that really looks like the character is ripping out a mental blast intended to shred the enemy's very mind. (Deep inhale, arms slowly coming overhead asymmetrically and brought down vigorously as they unleash the blast. You know, stuff like that.)

His lieutenants are Sirocco, King Crab, Admiral Orca, and the Banshee.

Sirocco is probably the least changed from COV canon, except he's at peace with himself. He was a freedom fighter before; he still is now.

King Crab is the alternate Black Scorpion, a master of technology (admittedly self-taught) and a terror in his massive battle armor. He's especially skilled at 'MacGyvering' and juryrigging; a lot of his gear is salvaged equipment that somehow works.

Admiral Orca is the alternate Captain Mako, and is the most changed. He's far bigger and bulkier, though he's still quick on his feet. Devastating in combat, his personality is far more refined that one expects (think Henry McCoy with a cetacean theme). He commands the fleets of ships that act as refugee camps from Tyrant's rule.

The Banshee is the alternate Ghost Widow. Once she was Stefan's lover, but she was killed by Tyrant. Unfortunately for Tyrant and his Praetorians, she didn't /stay/ dead -- she is bound to the ideals espoused by Stefan. Only when the very last shred of freedom is crushed under Tyrant's boot will she vanish.

    Opinions?
I like it. One of my characters (Operative Webb) comes from an alternate Earth controlled entirely by Arachnos. However, in that one Lord Recluse was killed by Lord Tarantula. Operative Webb is that world's version of Dr. Brian Webb on Primal Earth, founder of Portal Corp.

Oh, wait. MA arcs don't count?

    Never mind.
Freaky... 117 is a number that's been following me around since my teenage years.

A side note, in the Reichsman thread, it was noted that all the alternate Coles we know about are evil. Statesman is the exception. The only difference in Primal Earth is the existence of Lord Recluse. Coincidence? Perhaps not.
  10. I have a crazy case of altitis, too. I don't have any set plan on who I play, other than jumping in on organized TFs; those tend to dictate which character I play. Apart from that, I just look at who's been offline for a bit and choose them. Lately it's been the doppelganger missions, so I've been hitting the 20-29 level toons most often, particularly the Scrappers and Blasters, since they can solo the two Elite Bosses in those arcs.

  12. Most of my screenies from the TF didn't come out. Too much color or the exposure is blown out. Here are some that aren't too shabby:

I got the idea while the cable guy was working on our lines and I was flipping through my old CDs trying to find something off-line to amuse myself with. I saw I still owned my old DOOM discs and there ya go...
I thought yours was very good. I was just razzin' ya because it was so small. The Mini Me of Doom.
  14. I quite like the basics of the story. The dialogue could be a bit tighter and there are a few typos ("take's" when it should be "takes," etc.) but overall it's pretty good.
  15. This is an idea that comes around every so often. I even proposed a version of my own a few years back. I still think it's a good idea to allow us to create a Sidekick where we design our own "Buff Pet." It's the one iconic part of comic books that CoH doesn't emulate and really should (Batman & Robin, Captain America & Bucky). I was hoping Masterminds would let us design our minions -- now I'm hoping the Incarnate system lets us create sidekicks we can design.

What I meant is, before Hitler joined the Nazi party and started his propaganda, they were a small political party that no one cared about. Without Hitler Nazis would likely have never became such a big political party or win any election, and likely would either died out or remained small to this day. So in the form that most people know the Nazi Party would not have existed.
So you want us to somehow parse what you MEANT to say instead of what you ACTUALLY said.

Do you not get how crazy that makes you sound?

Besides, your history is a bit lacking, there.

However, lately there has been an issue that's getting worse, with people using ridiculously tiny text (and not for sarcasm or "asides"), really bad fonts (including our rednames...stop doing that!), or really terrible color choices. For a recent example, this is NOT the worst offender I've seen. Just in case she edits it to more sane colors: that is a comment in neon green, followed by a parenthesized comment in neon blue, followed by a line of neon pink. (Note that I'm not making fun of her. Amerikatt can be adorable, but that was just...awful.)

Is there a script that strips/overwrites font size/face/color formatting from posts? Preferably one that I can turn on and off easily, since guides and such often include legitimate changing of font style.

(Yes, I know I am inviting trolls and wannabe-comedians to post in this thread with horrific formatting.)
I'm not sure why you care. If I *can't* read something, I *don't* read it.

That includes bad spelling, bad grammar, bad color and bad font choices. I think if someone can't be bothered to communicate clearly, I certainly won't be bothered to puzzle out their cryptic pronouncements. Life's too short.

Those screenshots are telling. The different servers are different universes, with slightly different alternate histories. On Virtue, if your hero exists at all, she had tea with breakfast instead of the coffee her doppleganger did on Union or Infinity. She flies over a different crowd on her way to work in Talos depending on what server you're on when you log in etc.

So how do we name these? Virtue = Alpha Alpha 0-1? Freedom = Alpha Alpha 0-2, Union = Alpha Alpha 0-9 etc. etc.?
They probably all think they're Alpha-Alpha 0-0. However, Guardian is the original server, the one we all played on during beta. I've always held the conceit the reason there aren't any Rikti drones in Guardian's version of Outbreak is because we kicked those freaky aliens off the planet in April of '04. Something happened then which split the "original" universe into 9 separate paths... a different decision, a hero's death, something significant that led to divergent realities.

When you look it that way, the villains are smart to make it so many steps for the average hero to reach them.

Is it good design, I'm not entirely sure. But does it make sense given the context of villainy trying not to be foiled by just /anybody/, that I'm sure of. The hero that doesn't bother to do the legwork of reaching your hideout is one less hero to bother you.

It's a big city, and it's REALLY immersion-breaking for crime to only ever happen within the same general area of the person who knows about it, especially when it's caused by international corporations or wide-scale terrorist groups.

I'd much rather missions took place where it made sense for them to be, rather than necessarily close by. Kings' Row is said to contain a lot of Crey warehouses, so when we get a mission to raid a Crey warehouse, I'd expect it to be in Kings Row, not across the street from the contact in Founders' Falls.
I'm not against zoning in order to complete a TF, but the Manticore one is an example of unnecessarily excessive zoning requirements.

The new Positron has a nice mix of travel to lend it more of an epic feel, and I think the new doppelganger missions really take this idea to the next level by using zoning to build the story. In the doppelganger missions you have to travel to Faultline from your starting point in Talos, so that requires going through a couple zones unless your SG has transporters to Faultline. But then you run around both areas of the dam, eventually going through the sewers back to Talos. You really get the sense of traveling around the city to combat the bad guys, but it unfolds in an organic way.

Part two of the doppelganger arc (Jenni Adair contact) keeps you in Talos, but puts the doors quite far apart. It feels like a lot of travel which gives a sense of the scope of the issue, but at the end the missions are quite close together, so there's a real sense of building toward the climax of the story as things get compressed in both space and time. Whether by accident or design (hopefully the latter), one really gets the sense of increasing urgency and building tension of "Let's go! Almost there!"

Manticore's TF could use more of that.
  23. The whole "multiple zone changes" design is really outdated. I don't know why it ever came to be so prevalent in MMOs but the sooner it's forgotten, the better.

Generally speaking, I agree with Night Hornet about the instant gratification culture we have, but running around isn't fun or entertaining in any way, it's just a time sink for no purpose. Since only the team leader can see the story, it really just becomes a question of zoning multiple times.
  24. I tried that solo with my Widow and got creamed. I don't think there's much challenge to the game when on a team, only when alone. Especially if you're like me and characters are always running broke, with most enhancements in the yellow.
