Quote:Well, since it connects okay the first time, you know you'll be getting any patches downloaded. After that, the easiest workaround would be to simply skip the updater. This is EASY to do.Switch on my laptop and start up city of heroes updater, everything is fine. But as soon as I quit either the updater or the actual game and then decide to open the updater again it won't connect. I have to restart my laptop and then the coh updater will connect, but any subsequent attempts will fail and have to restart my laptop and so it goes on.
My regular desktop shortcut for the game has the target as:
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"
I also have a second shortcut to BYPASS the updater. It has:
"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh
Note the two spaces outside the quotes; one before -project and one before coh. This skips the updater and launches the game directly. Just keep in mind that, any time there is a patch to download, you MUST go through the updater. I use the bypass shortcut after the game crashes and it insists on wasting my time verifying files.
Yes, that would be the 'pre-download' for Issue 17. It's over 800MB. All those Ultra Mode graphics, don't you know.Quote:Also when I quit the game the updater automatically pops up again. -

Well, I didn't really go anywhere but I used a ton of transfers.
1) I loaded a bunch of influence on one toon on my home server and sent him on a tour to play Santa to my poor toons on other servers.
2) I used my fire/kin to PL a hero for every other server, just in case.
3) Then, they extended the free transfers and I used my fire/kin to PL a villain for every other server. (I used Dark Watcher's outdoor Nemesis map, now that RV has no level restriction.)
So, out of all my 'real' characters, only one used any transfers. He used 6 or 7 and ended up where he started from.

When you receive this message at the same time means that you have a routine account of our recent examination, was checking your account we have the evidence to prove that involved in the controversial game currency transaction so we had to take the necessary measures.

Quote:Half right. Yes, we'll submit to epic tedium for a badge. If I know one thing about badge hunters, it's that they'll subject themselves to any kind of tedium just for the sake of one more badge, so if you give them a more tedious way to earn their badges WITHOUT going into a PvP zone, that'd solve this problem right there.
However, we'll gravitate toward the way that's least labor-intensive. If I can spend 10 minutes in a PvP zone for a badge, or 30 minutes elsewhere, you can bet I'll be in that PvP zone. -
Quote:I see. And when you speak on the devs' behalf, we should just take YOUR word for it, but ignore what the big, bad farmers say?The devs don't condone farming, and they are NOT okay with it, in spite of what the farmers would have us believe.
We have to distinguish here between 'okay farming' and 'exploitive farming'. If you want to log your fire/kin and clear the Council Empire map twenty times solo, the devs have ZERO problem with that. THEY SAID SO. (Well, one of them said so, but it was the big enchilada.) You want to actively farm standard missions all day long, go for it.
Sorry, bad comparison as your statement is flat-out false. Farming is not 'illegal' (or against the rules, TOS, EULA, or whatever guidelines you'd like to apply).Quote:They just don't enforce it. It's like jaywalking, just because you aren't given a ticket for it doesn't mean it is okay. It is still illegal, just not enforced.
Of course, at the opposite end of the spectrum, if you are using a macro'ing keyboard to automate your character for farming - that's absolutely 'illegal' and will get you permanently banned.
To summarize, in a nice and obtuse manner: There's farming and there's 'farming'.

Quote:This one? Thresholds CoH: What to do WhenI can't find it right now, but there is "Level by Level Guide to Understanding CoH" or something like that - which shows the general "landmarks" on your journey to 50 and through the CoH game.

Quote:I don't have that model.Been looking on the net for quite a while today. It seems that Samsung is about as close as I'm going to get.
Anyone have this one for a quick review/yea or nay?
I have a 226BW (22" widescreen 1680x1050). The backlight failed after 2-3/4 years, still under warranty, and it was repaired very quickly at zero cost to me (they paid shipping both ways). However, since I absolutely could not be without a monitor (and didn't have a spare), I bought....
XL2370 which is a 23" 16:9 high def widescreen (1920x1080) with LED backlight. The monitor itself looks nice and has a great picture. -

You can also just buy them with influence. I've bought stacks of them under 5 million influence by putting in bids and letting them sit for a while.

Quote:Pretty much. Sure, some builds will work better than others at times, but the 'underperforming' build might well be more fun to play. Also, you need to be pretty picky about your build if you plan to fight archvillains with a team of 8 people set to +4 difficulty - i.e. extreme/unusual situations.Am I to understand that there really is no right and wrong way to build characters like there is in other games?
Keep in mind, though, that many powersets have one or two KEY powers that you will really regret not taking. An example would be that all tanks get a power in their primary set that provides 'status defense' and all scrappers get such a power in their secondary set. Your 'status defense' power will make you mostly immune to being held, slept, stunned, etc. That's a huge benefit. -
I'm in with my mind/psi dominator. He's level 30.

Quote:"that other MMO"?My opinion? I think CoV was a mistake on several levels.
I don't think it's a good idea to divide your own playerbase into two opposing factions if you don't have as many players as that other MMO.
If you're referring to WoW, there are COUNTRIES with smaller populations. Comparing ANY other MMO to WoW is absurd. -

Quote:(shrug) You can do the STF with no tankers OR scrappers. So what? Then i guess every single thing is this game except STF is "very simple missions". Cause i never needed a tanker in anything else. Hell, i could probably do STF with a scranker, if i played more blueside.
To the OP: Scrankers are fine as long as they don't try to pass themselves off as a 'team tank'. I was on an STF where the leader assembled a 'classic' team - tank, damage, buffs, debuffs. We were about halfway through when I started wondering why the tank was so useless. I looked over his powers and saw he was missing some of the key defenses and didn't have Taunt. He volunteered to 'tank' the STF but was built as a scranker (he was kind of incompetent as a player also, which was a big part of the problem).
I've also teamed with scrankers who were clear about their build. They said they were a scranker, or that they weren't built to be a 'lead tank'. And that was no problem. -

But will they be the type of powers you want? hmmmm......

Quote:Sure does.My 2 vet attacks both suck end, so when I kick into full damage mode my blue drops pretty fast.
I'd IO him for +recovery. It's the 1st set bonus in the sets that have it so you can semi-frankenslot for high performance in the powers, using PAIRS of IO's. If you've got the influence, you can get epic +recovery. My dark/dark runs 10 toggles. He has Stamina with 3 endmod plus the Performance Shifter +END IO, then he has +48% ADDITIONAL recovery from other stuff. Basically, I wanted to see if it was possible to get enough recovery to run everything I felt like. Yes, but it wasn't easy. (No purples, FYI.)
At the other extreme of the cost spectrum, I have a defender without Stamina and +33% recovery from sets. No Perf Shifter, no uniques, just cheap sets. His build was a bit over 20 million influence. -
