OMG OMG OMG! I probably would have bought it just for Dual Pistols and Electric Control. (I don't like MM's and I haven't tried Kinetic Melee yet.)

Quote:"Pigeonholing" is a very negative and biased term.Very well. If so, your points are all consistent and logical. I disagree with your premiss that the ATs need the pigeonholing that other MMOs are prone to, but if you prefer it, we've just reached a point where it's come to a matter of taste.
What I said was that differentiation of the AT's was important. If everyone has mez protection, then that is one less area in which they differ. -
One additional thing to note: do your hunting with a team. This will increase the spawn sizes and number of bosses.

Quote:The two are close enough in level that the 'value' is essentially the same. Sales volume is low enough that the last 5 prices have a high degree of randomness. The lvl 32 has a last 5 of around 60Mil, and the 34 about 100Mil. However, both sell for around 150Mil crafted.
So my question is, which one causes me to 'lose' more if I slot it?
i.e. There's no real difference between the two. -
Quote:Plenty of people have. I've only gotten to about 6,000 reward merits and 7,000 Vanguard merits on one character. On the other hand, he has less than 200 candy canes. He did get to 9,999 brainstorms and he has 97 of each Halloween salvage. For the past several weeks, I've been collecting Brain Storm Idea salvage via the market. Not to use, just to have. I wanted 9999 of them. Just like I collected 9999 Mission Architect Tickets, and how I am still collecting Candy Canes from the market, so I can have 9999 of them. Why, yes I do in fact want the whole sets of all types of salvage! Except invention salvage, feh!
(And don't ask me just how I'm gonna manage get 9999 Reward Merits or 9999 Vanguard Merits... x.x) -
Let's keep in mind that there is no such thing as being INHERENTLY "morally ambiguous". It's YOU that's putting that label on it. You're discussing activities of which YOU disapprove.

Quote:I can not stress enough how nuts this is. Anything that would be even a SLIGHT INCONVENIENCE if you lost it, should be backed up.I have a small problem with that.....45gig's worth of MP3's I can't replace if I lose. I'm hoping to come up with the cash for a external drive by x-mass so I can get those files off the computer.
The overwhelming majority of computer users have the wrong mindset. Most people need to understand that they will be using computers on a regular basis the rest of their lives. It simply is not a question of *IF* you will have a hardware failure causing lost of data. The only question is *WHEN*. -
Quote:More than acceptable, I think it's vital to differentiation of the AT's. Defenders are DESIGNED to help the team and generally be very limited in how much they can help themselves.A great point you made was why would a tank would have to depend on a defender at all for mez protection? Yet you are comfortable with a Defender having to depend on a Tank for everything? Is this concept of balance, acceptable to you?
I think that giving mez protection to the other AT's would be a terrible decision and very bad for game balance. Fortunately, since this is clearly not part of the design intent, I think it is extremely unlikely to happen. -
Quote:I think there are two steps in which there is a noticeable improvement in performance. The first one, as you indicate, is going from generics (or SO's) to frankenslotting.I've got a wide range of build styles in my stable, from pure generic IOs through Frankenslotting up to 'the good stuff' and then on to purely ostentatious purpled out 'bling' builds.
To me, the only really noticable performance jump is between generics and Frankenslotting.
'The good stuff' is measurably better when you look at the numbers, but in game? It doesn't feel that much different.
However, I think you can get a second step of dramatic improvement after that as long as you are aiming for something that is common/cheap. By that, I mean a set bonus that occurs in a lot of sets and is the first bonus - either regeneration or recovery. By slotting pairs from various sets, you can easily exceed 30% recovery bonus or 200% regen. 30% recovery should be noticeable on any AT and 200% regen is certainly noticeable on a tank (the only place I do slot that way).
This certainly costs more than frankenslotting, but it's only tens of millions (and the low tens, at that), rather than hundreds of millions or billions. -
Quote:I have not met (in person) anyone that I know through CoH.I might be crazy asking that question, but I'm just wondering if the community goes beyond the game as far as social interaction?
However, I have exchanged emails ('real' email, not CoH email) with quite a few; I am friends with several on Facebook; I've chatted on Skype, the phone, and also videoconference.
The reason for this is that everyone lives so far away. Back in the OLD DAYS (i.e. 2400 bps dial-up days), I was a SysOp on a BBS system. Just about everyone who dialed in was doing it as a local call so they all lived in the same area. We used to get together about once a month, sometimes having 30+ people show up. -
I didn't know the number, but I knew the limit is pretty high. I have a macro that is common across all my characters to summon the buff pet. Since each character might pick a different buff pet, the macro tries to summon EVERY buff pet.

False advertising! It says "Two-for-the-price-of-one" but it's only Manticore.

Quote:Your comments may, or may not, be accurate. However, they are completely irrelevant. The forum is BUGGED. It logs people out repeatedly and at random intervals. I do not have the forum remember me. I LOG OUT every time I finish reading. And it logs me out whenever it feels like it, while I'm reading.I know that Castle responded a while back, voicing an opinion that it was a bug. Still doesn't make it a bug.
Default lifetime for a vBulletin cookie is a 1 day logon. It CAN be changed. And I've given them the information to do so. But there may be other considerations besides simple technical feasibility (CAN this be done) of changing it on a bog-standard install, as NCSoft's version has been customized to interface with their authentication servers. -
Quote:No, it's a bug. This was confirmed by one of the community reps. Definitely a bug.But the issue with the forums logging people out every day is not a "problem". It's a "WAI" security measure that happens to be inconvenient for users. It doesn't mean this behavior is wrong or broken, any more than requiring you to change passwords every X-number of months, or requiring Admin logon privs to perform certain tasks are in Windows.

Quote:um... wow. Are we visiting the same forums? I'm not seeing any of that. The forums seems as vibrant, active and friendly as ever. Certainly there is some (justified) complaining about the logout bug, but I don't see that, or anything else, crippling the community.Since then I've been patiently watching, waiting to see what the fallout would be. In the last few months I've seen the amazing community start to crumble, at a time when the game should be reaching new heights.
We've been split up between various forums for all sorts of media simply because someone at PS is afraid we could be lured away.
The inability for them to see the ramifications of this action is truly heartbreaking. -
Quote:What you're talking about is fantasy. In any MMO - *ANY* MMO - the player who is willing to engage in specific high-return activities, be they 'grinding', 'marketeering', whatever, will ALWAYS have greater assets than the 'typical' player. What i am talking about is having a vibrant gaming environment wherein the players doing the most content, the most teaming with others, the most Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game activities, are rewarded at higher rates than farmers and marketeers.
This is the nature of the INDUSTRY. It is most certainly not a 'shortcoming' of this game. -
No single alignment will allow you to get every badge. Right off, there are a handful of day jobs on each side that can not be earned by 'the other side'. i.e. Some that only a villain or rogue can get, and some that only a hero or vigilante can get.
You can get PROGRESS toward the day jobs as a 'visitor' but, to actually be awarded the badge, you'll have to change alignment at some point. -
I'm in with Dr Dolomite - stone/stone tank.

Quote:This suggests a pattern. You feel that 2 billion for an enhancement is people griefing. Now you say that people attacking you in a PvP zone is also griefing.PvP has always been a mystery to me. I go to that land for badges, generally on Brutes, and generally get griefed while there. While saying reguarly without spamming "I am badging" I get jumped so regular it is clockwork.
Just because YOU don't like something does NOT make it griefing. The devs have made it perfectly clear that both of these situations are 'working as intended' in their eyes.
They do, and they have. The type of play they wish to encourage is NEVER BEING FINISHED. When a player feels that they are finished, they stop paying for this game and move on to another.Quote:In the end I am building a logical case to present to the Devs that they need to reward the type of play they say they encourage.
You do this repeatedly. You state that your position is for the benefit of the game, while those who disagree with you are greedy and selfish. Your 'debating' tactic is contemptible.Quote:The fact of the matter is I believe new and casual players may feel the way I do much more readily than they will come around to your position. So, the game is skewed in your favor, you want it to stay that way, even if it hurts new City of customers. In my opinion. My feeling. -
Quote:Isn't that a circular argument?I wouldn't say that I ignored it. But if you are selling drops, at least by my way of thinking you are "playing the market minigame", which I do think is necessary to participate meaningfully and get anything good from it.
If you want to buy stuff on the market you have to "play the market minigame" (i.e. sell stuff on the market). -

Considering it is on the BETA server, yes, they seem to be bypassing the Test server. And, since it's currently in OPEN BETA, Nov 16 seems on track.

Well, my understanding is that it is short for Mobile OBject. If that is correct, it would be an acronym. If not, then not. I don't claim any expertise regarding the origin of the term.
