  1. What I want:

I want to have fun, period.
I am an altaholic and so bounce around quite often. I randomly create characters on a whim.
I don't want to feel like a prestige mule.
I dislike the elitist issues that often come with established players versus new folks.

    What I bring:

    Knowledge and fun.
I love to team regardless of level or experience.
I don't care about debt or defeat.
    I enjoy teaching/helping new players.

The trouble is many SG's fill up rapidly and so a pure altaholic quickly runs out of room.

That's the thing. It's to early to know anything for sure. We can speculate that a year from now, all extra goodies will be paid for at all tiers, but that is merely speculation at this point and quite frankly, indications are it won't be that way at all.
With the current price points - the problem is they are using the oldest trick in the world to milk you for more money - greed.

You COULD wait for your ponts to accumulate to buy stuff but them others will already be playing them - (not realizing the Devs and Marketing are playing YOU). Your points don't come out when the sets do - they come out when your sign on date comes up. So yes, they are marketing you out of more cash and if you are the from the I want it now group of people - a fool and his money are soon parted.

Last time I'm going to say anything on this, some of you shame me just with your proximity.

City of Heroes is a luxury. If you can't afford it, well, it's not rent. It's not electricity. Or water. Or gas, for your home or your vehicle. It's not groceries.

In short, it is not required. The Developers of Paragon Studios are here to entertain you. If you are not entertained? GO. ELSEWHERE. I cajole and nudge the Devs because I CARE. Because I LIKE this game. Because I am ENTERTAINED. Some here are whining to hear themselves around the silver spoons in their mouths. I am unemployed, and have been for quite some time. Times are tough. If you aren't tough enough to admit to yourself that you can't afford new toys?

Cry me a river. Preferably somewhere ELSE. I am tired of spoiled rotten little kids who are way beyond voting age. Either toughen up and be quiet about your toys being too expensive for you, or do like me, tighten your belt, get what you want, and let the rest go.

    QUIETLY.

Because CoH is a TOY. It is just a GAME. There is no excuse for all the infantile crying I see here (AGAIN).

    EDIT:
TO Zwill, I've said it before to you, I will say it again. On behalf of my fellow players MANY of whom are AWESOME (tm by War Witch) (not certain if I'm in that category or not but oh well, I know very well I can be a pain)?

I wish to apologize for yet another thread burned down by the bad apples. I am truly sorry. Again, props on the Zero Wing reference, and keep up the good work even when some days go south.

    Raven.
Complaining about people complaining - check.
Apologizing for other people not being one of the cool kids - check.
Hyberbole and self righteousness - check.

All in all a great post. Stateman would be proud.

I may try that for you and find out - I have a forge.
  5. I am also thinking of Powerboost as that alone without IO boosts puts your defense at I believe 40% ish?

It also appears to take about 300% recharge to get perma shields. Not sure yet as several possibilies are out there.

Do you cap defense or work to increase control and damage? Best defense is if nothing is moving

    Downtime

So enlighten me oh warriors of the keyboard - how are we supposed to make known to the creators and developers of this game that we are unhappy with too much downtime other than posting in the Forums they provide?

    Game cancellation surveys?

Or is it better to vent and seek commiseration with your fellows?
  7. I have run into several of the Very Intolerant Players myself. In fact I am just about done the Ex - Halted server.

You have some very nice people that enjoy the game and just play. The other night on a Positron 2 we had a great team and just steamrolled a long having fun, but I have also seen the jerk brigade out in force as well.

Not just in chat but in teams where if the mobs are not neatly lined up into an group waiting for the firing squad they throw hissy fits.

The new players are more fun in most cases - they do silly things of course but it is a game and so playing and doing silly things is part of it.
  8. Not sure what happened there post was in the Controller group and showed up here!

    Sorry.
  9. I was in a team this morning and as a Fire/Time controller I often use Bonfire as a way to protect the squishies.

I don't drop it in the middle of a group unless things go badly and we have pulled a second or third group - then I fling it at them so it buys us some time. I will drop Bonfire centered on ranged players. Then the melee heavy bosses never reach them.

I had ran a couple of missions with a team and had been doing this when the scrapper in a full team starts complaining:

Scrapper: Bonfire sucks - it throws everything all over.
Me: I don't use it on the group - I use it under our blasters and controllers - like this and toss one under us so no melee attacks get near
Scrapper: it makes the buffs not works and scatters everything so we can't use AoE's
Me: I am not doing that - I am protecting the squishies but if it offends you so badly - have a nice day and take care all. /quit team

I am beginning to hate the Exalted server.

I have this sort of conversation on any power that doesn't neatly stack the mobs in killing order and instantly wipe them out. It seriously appears more and more like all people want is no effort instant killing sprees buffed to the gills and unphased by the enemy.

Sorry folks just had to vent - the VIP server more and more stands for Very Intolerant Players.
  10. The entire Incarnate powers issue is a complete mess.

The trials should let you UNLOCK the Tiers. They should also then award you with either Threads or Shards and get rid of one of them. Now you make the components to buy them more expensive as they become higher in Tier.

Then ANY level 50 or higher foes should give you a chance of a shard/thread drop and yet a Trial will give you a MUCH higher chance from each foe (outside of the Trial say 5% chance and inside a Trial 10%).

Now you only MUST run each Trial ONCE. Have each Trial unlock a new Tier and once unlocked if you run it again you get a higher end Reward menu.

This is how they have done almost everything in the game first time unlocks after that you get rewards. I point at Respec, Alpha and so on. This newest trend in Currency is insane. I have no desire to EVER play one of these Trials and will dounbtfully ever move past Alpha and find no need to.
  11. Yup, Video card and memory is all you can do with that setup.
  12. Only one way to win this:

8 controllers with Confuse. Target Numina and she will buff YOU not her team and she could potentially destroy all of them for you.
  13. The best defense is a good offense never was more true than balancing corruptors over defenders in my opinion.

Basically the devs made the ultimate Offenders with Corruptors as in the end game the dedicated defender is often not needed but the damage of the Corruptor is.
  14. We have seen how Nadia uses Voodoo and speaks of the Loa in blessing you.

Let's tie both her and Mr. Bocur into an arc that would be written from both sides. I think you could make a fun arc with zombies and Loa, along with all the other fun things found in Voodoo.
  15. Try a Claws/Will Power Brute.

The other option I like is a Willpower/Electric tank
  16. Nuke it from space it is the only way to be sure.

In all seriousness, they did it to Galaxy. The redside should be gone and in time Preatoria too.

Make all accessible and the problem is solved.
  17. I can honestly say in over 5 years I have NEVER respec'd a character except for the inherent stamina.

    You have 3 builds!

Use SO until you get to your mid 30's and then you can swap builds with ease. I make one build for early content and one for upper end.

Why on earth do you need to respec with 3 builds available?

Really, I don't see the problem with missing a couple of days if that's your prime time playing time (and I say this as someone's who's work scheldule means I tend to login during those down times for a couple of hours, so I'm missing out as well, so this isn't me saying it as someone who gets to go "Hahaha...I was at work anyways")

Now if they wanted to give some compensation like whatever...I wouldn't complain. But as someone who loses out on game time due to this (my work schedule really is that suckie) I don't feel it's needed.

Now if it was every day for a week straight...maybe...but it hasn't been that at all. And the worst of it was when i21 hit *sigh* My one day off a week and I had to wait...and wait...and wait...
This is the trap I see oh so many falling in to.

This is LIVE - no longer the Beta test. We are paying them to BETA TEST the game. They call it a "Head start" do you feel like you are getting a Head Start or do you feel like you are Beta testing?

This is terrible customer service on the par with AT&T.

And just to let you know even when this game is technically "live" it's never 100% "finished". The idea that any game would ever be considered 100% bug free is a fancifully unrealistic notion to begin with.
You do realize I am paying real money not Beta money?

You do realize this "head start" is not optional?

You do realize there is no way to play the original game without the "head start"?

You do realize it is LIVE. It is not a BETA TEST NOW. If it needs more testing put the damn game back to TEST and off LIVE. What a load of codswallop.
  21. The veteran awards were nice but personallly I am not offended and don't have to be "special" for having 7 year awards. If they can make some money frm it more power to them! I believe in a free market and capitalism!

I just laugh at a lot of the folks who play this game.

They do not make consistent logic, this morning the servers going down for another 4.5 hours the players were like anything it takes to get it fixed before it goes live!

Hello, McFly it IS LIVE - you are delivering the unstable, lag infested bugged game to PAYING customers. Yes, we ARE Beta testing the game for them and paying for the priviledge to do so.
  22. Let's be honest here and get it out in the open EULA's are not binding in any court except in ONE case.

EULA's let companies get you off the phone/out of the office until you have time to cool off. In reality they are a delaying move and just a legal disclaimer. Most people will do exactly what a lot here are doing they say we read the disclaimer it says you agree.............and so people drop it.

Good business practice is a LOT different from required business practices.

Example: You have a bugged mission and a GM shows up. He says yes it is bugged. Now you used your free drop of a mission on an earlier bugged mission. The GM could say - well exit and abandon the mission and in 3 days drop this one, or he could say - would you like me to complete this one for you so you can continue on your arc?

Which one leads to retaining customers?

A reasonable business would make a short statement like:

Hi folks - we have had a few teething problems with the new servers and the new Freedom remodel. To show our appreciation for your patience and our love of our players we are offering a Double XP weekend and a free Sequined thong or whtever costume piece.

Then they are out 40 points each player who doesn't have it already and nothing else and have gained good will from the player base which equates to MORE money.
  23. I would say:

    Fire/Time
    Electric/Time
    Electric/TA

These all end up being played in Melee range 90% of the time. The small 10% amount you are out of melee is the initial setup.
  24. To be fair it is only a short amount of time, that being said it is FAR outside of the normal time expected for maintenance.

Now some will flock to defend the Devs saying well what do you expect they are giving us wonderful things! Yes, but you don't have access to the old things either while they are busy making awzum.

So either crediting us with some amount of points or a double XP weekend seems a fair thing. This is not normal and the customer can't be expected to be happy with the unstable servers, lag, downtime or other issues that a wholesale remake to City of Heroes 2 brought.

Again these issues are NOT the customers fault and we are paying for the new shiny stuff and often a great deal of cash is changing hands. I have seen people spend nearly $500 on new stuff just to not be able to play it.

*Edit - this also throws out the whole you only pay this theory - some have paid a LOT more this month.
  25. I will say it again:

Yes, increase SG size and allow me to invite my own accounts characters.
