This is what you said:
Quote:PI Broadcast, circa Issues 1-15:
"FILLER/BRIDGE LOOKING FOR TEAM/FARM WILL PAY FOR INVITE"
It's not a new concept. Get over it.
Uh-oh, the "I'm a vet, my whining is relevant!" speech.
Christ people, it's a game. The devs are aware of things, they'll deal with issues as they see fit.. Let it gooooooo.
This is what we heard:
I am using the AE like crazy so leave alone until I get my guys up to 50. I am also far superior to a person who is complaining about an exploit, I complain about complainers.
You win teh internet. -
I am absolutely sickened by the exploitation of the AE system.
Seeing literally dozens of teams exploiting the game in a manner far worse than the most ignorant Winter Lord. Seeing a level 50 character ask where a tailor is in the game - because he has never left the zone before.
How on earth is this using the content and helping the player base?
I am reaching the point I never have in over 6 years where I don't even want to log in knowing I will see the LFMF spam constantly. Got my 78 month badge and I have never been so sad to play this game in all that time as I am right now. -
Ok, we have talked and talked and how about we form a Knockback Night team?
I know we have tanker Tuesday - how about Knockback Thursday? Being Thorsday it is a great time to fire up Lightning storm and knock 'em flying! -
Here is the thing, I decided several years ago that if a power is in the game and a player has selected it what right do I have to tell them not to use them?
I have seen people here say it's griefing to use knockback?
Seriously? It is one of the most used powers for players - the list of things with knockdown/Up is very long. If you decide to roll with it and let players have FUN - suddenly the game is much better. If you seek only the optimal xp per second - then stay in Rikti monkey hell. -
Been having the same since Saturday. I ran netgraph and it was mown grass at 200-225 so I think it may be server side.
-
I used to run on Virtue the Knockback Night!
To join the team you were REQUIRED to have a disorient, stun, knockback or any other such power that created chaos. Handclap on tanks was a major bonus.
Who did we fight?
Almost strictly the Council as their Knockback Fu is strong.
How did it play? It was the most amusing amazing experiment I ever took part in. We never required healing, we never got hurt, nothing lived longer than counting to 5. I saw Elite Bosses knocked into the air cartwheel and be dead BEFORE they hit the ground.
It was epic and absolutely without equal in my CoX gaming experience. Most players would join with serious doubts and within 2 groups were laughing so hard they were crying. Had one tank quit because he thought we were crazy. He was trying to herd as we were unleashing chaos.
The best tank we ever had would jump in hit taunt and unleash Handclap - then we loosed the bowling for villains powers!
Hmmm, I may need to start that up again. -
Same issue I had 5 Kinetitc combat IO's fully crafted and sent to my blaster and they are long gone, 10 million in inf as well but that not a big deal.
Petitioned it but don't expect anything except the sorry for your loss blah, blah, blah -
On my Fire/dark corruptor I can do some types at +4x8 but it is pointless. I can roll thru +2x8 and do 3 or 4 missions of those faster than a single +4x8.
I can easily herd 2 or 3 groups on the wall in Cim and kill them regardless of the level they are. I can survive solo killing the Crystals on an ITF speed run. All of this obviously depends on the perfect storm - where your debuffs miss and your defense rolls snake eyes and you go from perfect to dead in an instant.
In rough fights I set my heal on auto quickly and just keep pouring on damage and Howling twilight/tarpit and fears. In most cases this works just fine and if my -recharge procs hit quickly (I have 4 different powers with them) the boss/AV can't attack quickly enough to kill me or do enough damage to even make me heal.
I stood toe to toe with Recluse on an STF run when the Stone tank got ganked until I could cycle Howling again. -
Fire/Dark corruptor.
You have so many tools that when you reach upper levels the character is game breaking. -
I weas thinking exactly the same thing Coyote. The power supply is overheating trying to feed the video card. Setting it lower only buys you a little time. You need a new power supply (PSU).
Setting the card lower means it works less and so draws less power. -
Overclocking and you - a voice of experience.
If you overclock you may shorten the life of the component you OC or your system. It may also make it less stable.
When I OC a CPU I watch the temperature of the core as I do it. I will bump it up a couple of hundred MHZ at a time until it either is unstable or the temperature raises. Once the temperature raises, I personally stop.
The temperature shows it is straining at that speed, I don't like a system that is straining just running without a load and so I stop at the highest speed that doesn't increase temps.
I do the same with video cards and I have never had a component burn out -
I don't know if anyone else is in an area without wired broadband, I live in rural Michigan and so the only way to play for me is via Aircard. Now it has it's issues a 5gb cap which daily play of 2-3 hours has never reached and the affects storms have on reception - very negative.
I wanted to share what 5 years of aircard usage has taught me and to offer some help if needed.
Buying an aircard:
1) Do not get a contract longer than 1 year - the devices change so quickly that within 1 year you may go from terrible connections to blazing fast on another vendor. So don't tie yourself to a longer contract.
2) go to your local Best Buy and ask then who covers your area best. They sell ALL vendors cards and so won't blow smoke up your rear. They want you happy and with good coverage and they sell these things all day and know who covers what. Buying from Best Buy is a good idea as well because you pay a minor cost for the aircard but if you have an issue you take it to them not the vendor
Using your aircard:
Wouldn't it be great if you just plugged it in and it worked? Well it might but not at optimal speeds. You need to install the software with your card and then IMMEDIATELY look for a newer version of the software. It can change like night and day with a newer version opening up new options. Going from Rev A towers to Rev B is just a software tweak but it is much faster as an example.
1) Your connection is in db and the LOWER the better. If you get 80 db or less you have a great connection. 100 dba and above it will be choppy but solo you can play - in teams you won't like it.
2) Download http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp Dr. TCP and once installed set the TCP Recieve Window to 65536 and your Max MTU to 1472. This sould be the best settings for aircards. Then reboot your computer and you are all set.
Weak signal can be rectified several ways either by a signal booster or an antenna.
Signal boosters are about $400 and can really boost a weak signal for a small area http://www.wpsantennas.com/cell-phon...-boosters.aspx.
Antennas are either directional or Omni-directional (it shoots all around). The directional ones are based on either a panel or a Yagi and the Omni directional is based on just a whip antenna like on your car. http://www.wpsantennas.com/cell-phone-antennas.aspx
Tips for antennas:
Your card will need an adaptor to connect to an antenna and your card vendor will have those!
Omni directional ones are better the higher gain they have a 9dbi is better than a 3 dbi. They also do have a "flat spot" where the signal is weaker and directional antennas are usually covering a 6 degree arc (give or take a bit). Here is a good basic coverage primer http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk72...807f34d3.shtml
If you do get an antenna understand an Omni directional MUST HAVE A REFLECTIVE SURFACE to get best signal. I mounted mine outside on a 12 foot pole and used a flat metal disc 6 inches in diameter and set the magnetic antenna in the center and with trial and error slowly rotated the Omni until it gave the best signal.
A Yagi can give better duty in a busy area with a lot of interference. They have a 6 degree arc of coverage and so they don't pick up the noise from other sources as easily. A thing you must be aware of with Yagi's THEY MUST BE GROUNDED OR THEY DON'T WORK. I have heard people say these Yagi's are terrible they don't work - and asked do you have it grounded? They say nope - and I say then it isn't even on yet. Buy a fairly cheap copper grounding pole at a hardware store and pund it in the ground near the Yagi and run a simple ground wire to the antenna (it should have a location for one).
Several new network developments will make wireless near Broadband speeds http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-4g.htm
One issue you will have on an aircard is lag or latency and it is completely dependant on the distance from the tower you are connected to. I get 200-225 ping rate doing a /netgraph 1 in the City of command line. (To turn it off /netgraph 0) Which is fine for this game but would be dreadful in a game like Quake. I have heard some folks getting as low as 70 or so but that is rare.
I hope this helps! -
Anything over an nVidia 5770.
They should run the new graphics just fine. -
-
I learned that Howling Twilight the best hold in the game actually can rez people
Tongue in cheek of course, but watching a dark corr or def not using it to prevent deaths instead of saving it to rez is rather silly -
I would personally go with an Earth Rad or Earth Kin to complement his Ill/Rad.
You can lock the stuff down and with the Kinetics you get the perma PA! -
Because its MY game.
I have been playing since the first day the game went live and I play MY characters with MY powers and I play it MY way.
In most games the developers make you play it their way. They know what type of play they want and you are without options. In City of Heroes I do it my way. If I want to I can even create my OWN world in the AE and never enter the city except to level up and buy enhancements.
This flexibility should be rewarded. So I stay and have fun, if it stops being fun and I stop having ideas for a new character - I will move on. But I just started a new Earth/Radiation controller - The Atomic Aardvark and so far he amuses me and is fun! -
I play Mab Queen of Winter on Virtue and yes, Jim Butcher does play at times as Harry Dresden.
I saw his name late one night and sent him a tell, "Mortal do you need a favor from the Fae?"
I joined him for several missions and had great fun with his Dresden- I would be definately up for this please send a tell to @iron - I play most nights after 8pm EST.

I was reading a website that showed upcoming game releases. One of these was City of Heroes and since I could see it was going live in the next few days I decided to try it out.
On the day game began, I sign on for the first time and went through the tutorial. I was on a Fire/Fire blaster Infernus Hades (his first incarnation). I entered the Atlas map and was astounded. Before me were hundreds of heroes, jumping, flying and zipping around.
I joined a team and we went into a few missions smashing mainly Hellions. I got up to level 7 and took off to Perez Park and learned the joys of Hydra smashing! I leveled up to 14, Burning Hydras up in the lake.
Then I joined an SG with a like minded person Zorz. We founded Sin on Champion and became a tight group of friends. In those days an entire SG would head to Founders Falls and 25-30 of us would all attack a single group. Without the Purple Patch we could in time - defeat them. A horde of 10-20 level players attacking single groups of 39's would give you a level per foe you defeated!
My blaster soon became a celebrity. He was either the first or one of the first Fire/Fire blasters to 40 (when it was the level cap) on Champion. When I logged in I would be swamped with invites as at that time very few mez attacks were in the game. Fire/Fire was death incarnate and I could destroy entire groups in an instant with my nuke or melt entire MISSIONS in a herd in 10-15 seconds.
Since then I have seen mistakes and mis-steps by the game, but in the end thru it all I could see it was a labor of love for those who wanted us to be Heroes and Villains and powerful beyond mortal ability.
To copy Batty from Blade Runner:
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Rikti attack ships firing on Paragon off the shoulder of Atlas. I've watched Flaming Giant Pumpkins glitter in the dark near the Croatoa gate. Watched the sun go down in Talos as the Banished Pantheon rise in the night and magic fills the dark. All those moments found by others in time.... like heroes in the magazines.... time to play and change the world.
I have stood in Terra Volta back to back with a fellow Fire tank - our last hope for salvation as we 2 surrounded by Freakshow and being fed inspirations by the other 6 defeated players found a way to survive and with our last dying breath save the Reactor from exploding.
I have fought the Hydras with a team of 8 as all were dead except my empathy defender and a tank the persons first character found what it was like to be heroic on her first day in Paragon at level 8 as the rest of the team slowly dies and this young lady was healed by me until I fell and she won by a whisker and the entire team cheered her for her determination to win!
I have seen so much heroism and villany and always, always it was epic and fun. Over 6 years and I still look forward to playing, thanks to you all both in the game and making the game. -
I love my Electric/Archery controller. It is an amazing synergy and while not highh in damage the control is exceptional.
-
Electric/Archery - just like fight club - try not to talk about it too much.
Look through the powers and you can drain the endurance of even AVsand you have endless endurance without Stamina. How would you like to open attacks with a sleep that KEEPS sleeping even after they are awoken, drain their endurance, disrupt their resistance and defense, Hold them all, slow them and confuse them all and all BEFORE you get pets?
Yeah, it can be that good. -
I would try Electric/Archery controller and a Willpower/Fire tank.
Tons of control and good damage. -
Has anyone else tried this set?
Holy cow does it have a serious amount of control. It is now my favorite toon for running the Positron TF as even at low levels you have never-ending endurance and so does your team.
The mix of Status Field and gas arrow means everything is asleep and you can then just tear things up! They are drained of endurance and even Dr. Vahz was completely drained and unable to attack. I have had 3 or 4 people say after seeing it in action they want to make one.
What fun, lots of control and a variety of ways to get that control and all without using the Fitness pool -
I usually get it after I have begun to IO my characters out - about 37-38ish.
Then you aren't impacting the things you really NEED to have to buff/debuff your team. I use Blizzard only at times you can impact multiple groups, but using Aim + Snowstorm + Blizzard (and if you select Power Buildup) you can destroy multiple groups and with ease.
I don't take power selections as a slight or personally - it's YOUR hero/villain and I love concept builds just as much as min/max builds. I have a Fire/dark corruptor who is slightly different from the normal builds. He has slightly less max defense but I added a LOT of mez resistance and defense. When he get held I literally count to 3 and he is back. This makes even AV's unable to stop him, normally. I survived 2 hits from Recluse when the tank in an STF died.
So trying and evolving a build that starts as a concept and then hits the real world is what I like.
