Quote:Pardon me, but what gives you the idea that you are entitled to tell someone else how to run their business?...
But I'm not thrilled that we're getting it, like it or not, without feedback at all, just suck it, without say as to how it happens..
The Devs have said several times that they took input from the players into account, but that doesn't mean they are going to let the players dictate business decisions.

Quote:I think the bolded part is a leap......just by purchasing Paragon Points earning the bonus Reward Tokens allows you to unlock the rewards thus giving you the badges,
I read it as the veteran perks/powers are indirectly purchasable, not the badges themselves.
As was indicated in another thread, the new system is going to be tiered where certain things (badges?) will unlock automatically with each tier.
It would be nice to have some clarification on it, though.

Quote:First of all, you do not lose characters, the characters themselves do not disappear. They simply become inaccessible, "greyed out", if you will.If players before freedom update have a good amount of characters say 6 or more and they go free play, will they lose all characters except for 2 (4 if you bought going rogue)? How can you tell which characters will be usable?
Secondly, if you lapse from VIP to Premium, you will receive tokens to "unlock" your characters. You will get 2 tokens automatically, PLUS 2 tokens for owning GR, yearly earned slots, and any extra slots you may have purchased.
So, if you lapse to Premium status, AND you own GR, you will get at least 4 character unlock tokens. Plus, you will get more tokens depending on the other factors listed.
So, a player that owns GR, has actively played for 2 years, and has purchased 4 extra slots over time, will get 10 character tokens when they lapse to premium. If they have 24 characters, they will be able to unlock 10 of them (but not the MM's or 'Trollers) to play. If the same player did not own GR, they would get 8 tokens.
EDIT: Forbin is a fast typer

I started a thread about this issue a couple weeks ago in the Tech forums... You can see how much assistance I got on it.

There have been a few clues dropped amongst all the info given out this week...
The new veteran rewards program (Paragon Rewards) will be a tiered system. Only certain things will be open on certain tiers.
They have also said (though I can't track down the exact post atm) that you will not lose any of your badges or any of the perks associated with those badges.
I'm guessing that an account will have to qualify for a tier based on their accumulation of Reward Tokens. I imagine this would be accomplished by the game keeping a running total on your account in the background.
They have said that more details regarding the new veteran program (Paragon Rewards) will be forthcoming in the next week or so.

That is exactly the kind of memory usage I documented with base editing.
I even documented it in intervals, such as when I was "working", just standing around, switching in/out of edit mode, and zoning in/out of base. The memory usage just keeps accumulating.

Quote:This is true for the most part. However, there is the rare odd moment when someone hits the targets *just* as the taunt wears off...I still don't know why tankers hate knockback. Their taunt aura lasts around 11 seconds on their targets so even knocked back targets will return to the tanker. ...
Quote:.... Hoverblasting so you can shoot straight down on a spawn works, but you have to be directly above them and (at least when I tried it) it slowed me down so much I just got frustrated. Plus what good is my secondary when I'm floating around? ...
I have a set of rotating binds to toggle "fly mode" off and on at will with the press of one single key.
When in "fly mode", I hover or fly according to my directional movement (I even have auto-fly built into it).
When I toggle "fly mode" off, I go immediately to sprint/cj.
So, when I toggle fly mode off, I can literally drop to the ground in the middle of a mob, fists a swingin' (or setting off my nova).

Quote:Posi has indicated that the "perma-unlock" for MMs & Trollers occurs automatically IF you have accumulated 3 years (36 months) of Veteran status.I have a question though: Say my account has 30 months active time earned, it lapses time and go to premium, will I be able to play the MM's and Trollers that I have made before me time ran out and with only 30 months? XD;;
If you do not have the 3 years accumulated Veteran Rewards to auto/perma-unlock the ATs, you may purchase the unlock in the new Paragon Market with Paragon Points.
Either way, you do not have to use your Veteran Rewards to unlock the ATs.

When I'm playing my eng/eng blaster with my tankaholic hubby, I try to be conscientious about the knockback effect. It can be pretty intense.
It comes down to using the effect strategically.
If we're in an enclosed space (office, cave, whatever), I do my best to knock stuff into a corner. Of course, it's nice that tankaholic hubby knows enough to aggro the mobs into a corner in the first place.
If we're on an open air map, I will rain my blasts from above. This mitigates the knockback into somewhat of a knockdown - not entirely, of course, but it's better than blasts "on the level".
Unfortunately, not all blasters are strategic, which gives a bad perception to everyone else. Of course, the longer "everyone else" plays the game, the more likely they will come across the strategic players, and hopefully their perceptions will change.

I do have another SG related question:
In the side by side comparison chart, it shows that Premium players will have access to SG's.
However, in the same column, it shows that they will only be able to use local, team and tells for chat.
If they are going to have access to SG's, shouldn't that include SG & coalie chat as well?

Hey guys... did y'all catch this?

Supergroup Transfers (Including bases)
This is something we anticipated and are actively working on, but it likely won’t be ready for City of Heroes Freedom’s launch. We are committing to bringing you this service in the future and it won’t be just to the VIP server, it will be between any server. It will likely require the Supergroup’s Super Leader to actually execute the transfer. -
Quote:I think this illuminates something that was not entirely clear in previous discussion, at least for me. There is yet another reward structure beyond the Paragon reward tokens. This reward structure is similar to the vet rewards, in that there will be AUTOMATIC unlocks based on length of subscription.
...
My concern here is that you will have people coming back who PAY to unlock something like access to MMs, not realizing that they will unlock it automatically with two more months of VIP subscription.
Posi expanded a little bit in another thread:
Quote:
CLARIFICATION about Masterminds (and Controllers):
Zwill said that you can choose to unlock MM and Controllers with your Paragon Reward tokens. This is INCORRECT. MM and Controllers are automatically unlocked when you have accumulated enough Paragon Reward Tokens (for existing veterans it's around 3 years). You don't even need to spend these Reward tokens to get the unlock. Of course, you can always unlock them early by buying them on the Paragon Market.
This was a bit of a relief to me, as I was concerned that former VIPs would be put in a position of making a very expensive choice regarding their Veteran Rewards, when the AT's were never part of the veteran program in the first place.
The fact that a player would still have to "pay again" to unlock previously playable content with Paragon Points is probably not going to go down very well for some folks, but I'd rather see PPoints used than have it tied to the VRewards.

There's multiple answers for this one...it depends on your Vet status (how many Paragon Reward Tokens you have) as it is unlocked through the Paragon Rewards Program, which is basically the Vet Reward Program revamped.
If you've unlocked the MM through this method, then yes, you have it for ever and ever, amen.
If not, and you haven't purchased the "license" then those characters/AT's would be unplayable if you revert to non-VIP.Quote:To put it in terms that are easily understandable by today's current systems: You will be able to unlock the MM AT as a "Vet Reward". Thats sucky. You'll get Rewards tokens simply by maintaining your subscription (among other ways).
Paragon Points are used for the new in-game store.
All VIP players will get both Paragon Points and Reward Tokens as part of their subscription.

Q: What is the difference between a Reward Token and a Paragon Point?
A: Reward Tokens can be redeemed to unlock free in-game benefits. They are earned as part of your monthly VIP player subscription or as a bonus for purchasing Paragon Points. Paragon Points can be used to purchase items through the new in-game Paragon Market.Quote:Not that this thread is about the unlockable AT's...buuuuuut...
As things currently stand there's the following scenarios:- Bob the COH Player played COH for 3 years. He decides to come back as a premium player. Bob has X Number of Paragon Reward Tokens to spend, one of which can be spent on unlocking the MM AT, which will be unlocked always and forever after.
- Bob the COH Player played COH for 3 months. Bob made a MM during that 3 months. Bob's MM is locked for play and cannot be selected as one of his characters to use a Global Character Slot Token on.
- Bob is a new or returning player who wants to play a Mastermind. Bob decides to come back as a VIP subscriber, stays a VIP subscriber for X Months, during which time Bob earns enough Paragon Reward Tokens to unlock the MM AT. Bob then lets his VIP lapse and he goes back to Premium. Bob, much like 3 year vet before Freedom Bob, will have access to the MM AT now and forever.
- Bob the COH Player played for 3 months, realizes he cannot play the MM that he made during that 3 months and decides to purchase a MM license from the Paragon Market. Bob can play the MM AT to his heart's content always and forever.
- Bob decides that there is so much awesomeness offered by the VIP subscription that his head explodes in an orgy of awesome as he mashes the "VIP SUB PLZ!" repeatedly, thus rendering all of the alterna-Bobs moot.
I personally find that option five is the most likely.Quote:There is no way to ignore the Paragon Reward Tokens you'll receive for having played umpteen years. Check the other scenarios I proposed.
Just to clarify something...
Paragon Points are spent in the Paragon Market (mtx store). In other words: You give Paragon money = We give you points (this is outside of the 400 pts included in the VIP Subscription of course)
Paragon Reward Tokens are used to unlock nifty rewards and are granted much like the system currently known as the Veteran Rewards Program (it's a complete revamp/improvement of said system). One of these things you'll be able to unlock (your choice, it's a pretty flexible system) is the MM AT.
MM's & 'Trollers were never part of the Veteran Rewards Program in the first place.
They are AT's which were part of purchased content, either by box or by subscription (ie, issue release). HEATs & VEATs were also part of purchased content, but were level gated (levels very recently lowered, I might add).
WHY the heck should a VIP who lapses to Premium be forced to SPEND their Veteran Reward Points to access something that they have already purchased (accessed, played, invested in) at one point? OH, and THEN, once the former VIP pays (via Reward Points) to unlock the content (again)... THEN it's considered "permanently" accessible?
Thats.... just not quite right.
If, as some of the previous responses indicate, you are supposed to retain access to everything you have already paid for or earned (even if you lapse to Premium)...
Then....
If you start off as a VIP, those ATs should be considered permanently accessible from the get-go.

Quote:SG membership is based on toons, not on accounts/globals.Going Free to Play – ... it says right in the Side-by-Side Comparison that free accounts cannot join SGs/VGs. ...
Why not let them join SGs and give them limited access?- They can use the porters but can not use the salvage and enhancement bins. (thus negating potential theft issues)
- Let them have more freedom on base crafting tables and vault access.
Feel free to add to the list or correct me where I am wrong, but please keep it constructive.
SG ranks (permissions) are given to toons, not to accounts/globals.
In order to accomplish the restrictions you are suggesting, this structure would have to change.
I can think of a few security reasons why these things really should not be based on accounts or globals.
Consider if Player A joined SG A and obtained a rank with all permissions. IF that rank were attached to the player's global, what's to stop Player A from joining SG B with all permissions and cleaning them out?
There are other reasons, I'm sure, that's just the first thing to pop into my head.
Furthermore, this is no different than how free trial accounts are currently handled.
Premium players will be able to join SGs, but not create new ones. Also, VIP players who lapse to Premium will retain their SG membership.
I see no compelling reason to change this.
. -
As it stands now, if you are a subscriber with membership in global channels, you are not dropped from those channels if you allow your account to lapse. When you come back, you are still listed in those channels. I'm not sure how this will change for Premium players without re-structuring how global channels handle members. They will most likely be unable to join new channels.
Premium players will also retain their SG membership (though they won't be able to create new SGs). I would assume that SG/coalie chat channels would go hand in hand with that.
Premium players will have more options in this regard than Free players.

Quote:Unless you have some sort of intimate knowledge on how the coding for SG promotions works (by toon vs. by global)... And considering that base/SG folks have been asking for "promo by global" for a long time... I'm gonna guess that this is not feasible. This is why I suggested that free players be allowed to enter SG's, but will not be eligible for promotions.
. -
Quote:I once had a very patient player do this to me.There are at least 3 layers of protection for the SG there.
1. Don't invite strangers
2. Don't put valuables in the bins
3. Don't give new members access to the bins
Just how common was this, exactly?
He joined our SG, played seriously for about 3 weeks; enough to gain promotion.
Then "trusted player" invited a "friend", and vouched for him.
"Friend" was given promotion sooner than usual due to the voucher.
"Friend" raided enhacement & salvage bins of all the good stuff.
Then "friend" AND "trusted player" both left the SG... never to be heard from again.
This used to be quite a common practice, especially before salvage bins had individual access permissions.
Now, I don't invite people unless I have known them (as much as is possible online) for considerably more than 3 weeks. And, certain salvage bins are "gated".

This crash occurred for the first time ever on my system yesterday.
We had just finished running Citadel TF, which requires zoning for almost every mission.
The only thing I had actively running in the background was firefox (for the P-wiki), which has been my SOP for years.
Recently, I documented what I call the base memory leak. I suppose the issue is not technically a "leak", but rather an "accumulation". The accumulation is supposed to clear with zoning, but something is preventing that.
I can't help but wonder about the similarities in these issues.
. -
The only thing I'm really scratching my head over is the bit about MM's & 'Trollers needing to be unlocked if you allow your account to lapse to "premium".
So, I have several 'Trollers that I play, have played for years, have paid to be able to play; BUT if I dare allow my account to go to "premium" status, I will have to PAY AGAIN (with Reward Tokens) to be able to play them (and then they will be permanantly unlocked regardless of account status)? .... I reeeeeeaaaallly hope I am misunderstanding something there.
. -
I just went into the playerslot.txt file, deleted the content, saved the (empty) text file, and let the game rewrite it when I logged in and arranged my characters as desired. Seems to do the trick without changing the file to read only.

Congrats!
I'm sure you were outshining the sun after that.

Quote:And for another example of modesty, I'll toss in my homage to Beatrix Potter (who was not only a conservationist, but was also posthumously recognized for her work in mycology - the study of mushrooms & fungi).I don't really happen to think that actual Victorian costume is really a good example of what would be the opposite of sexist.
Anyway, if you want to build something more modest, layer the costume pieces. You don't have to wear them over keyhole lycra. For an imperfect example of it taken to an extreme:
The problem with any outfit like this of course is that dresses aren't long enough, so you are forced into dealing with the length of the leg. This is a more or less unfixable issue due to how the game works. However, any time you give a model pieces that lace all the way up to the neck, I don't see how you can say it's not adding less modesty rather than more.
Short version: coats would still be nice of course but just because a piece is layerable doesn't mean you have to dress like a streetwalker.
