More access to channels seems like a good incentive to upgrade ones account/keep a current account active to me. If two people aren't on at the same time they won't show up in global channels anyway but they can send offline tells to get in touch.

As it stands now, if you are a subscriber with membership in global channels, you are not dropped from those channels if you allow your account to lapse. When you come back, you are still listed in those channels. I'm not sure how this will change for Premium players without re-structuring how global channels handle members. They will most likely be unable to join new channels.
Premium players will also retain their SG membership (though they won't be able to create new SGs). I would assume that SG/coalie chat channels would go hand in hand with that.
Premium players will have more options in this regard than Free players.

Why not just limit global channels for Premium players to 2, maybe even 1?

I agree with the either keep account active or even bookkeeper_jay idea of one or two. Maybe take the same direction as character unlocks.

a premium player is most likely a veteran with at least 1-2 years of playing, it would only be fair if some restrictions are soften to make them at home.

Not saying that that is certain, but it seems to me that they are going the route that the longer you have been playing (and/or the higher the amount of money you put into the game) the less restrictions you have if you stop paying the description.

I like the idea suggested above of limiting them to a smaller number of channels, personally.

I haven't scanned all the related topics and thread, so shoot me now if I have been scooped. The premium players need to be able to access global channel AND global chat when they return. Our community is alting harder than ever, and if we aren't on the same server the returning people are on when they try to come back, it will be very hard to reconnect.
I WANT my former teammates to be able to contact their former supergroup and coalition members.
