  1. I'd advise some way to get Fireball into the build. I found it indispenable for gaining and keeping agro on large groups of baddies. Personally, I left out Build Up, Energy Punch, and Strength of Will, and added Air Superiority, Fly, Char, Fire Blast, and Fireball. I've tried both builds, but when mine was fully IO'd out, I found I didn't really need Strength of Will, although I do miss having Strength of Will a bit.
  2. Unfortunately, it probably wasn't an accident. Someone(or more than one person) petitioned either the character name, the bio, or more likely both. Not making any personal judgements here, just stating likely facts.

They think everyone should play the game exactly as they do, and anyone who doesn't should be driven out of the game for the good of the community.
Not denying this...just pointing out that they are a vocal minority, and should be ignored accordingly.

You're certainly entitled to your opinions on the rest of your post, so I'll only address this part.

I'm just not seeing what you are with this. At best, the 'Usual Suspects' as you call them, are unsurprised when a nerf happens. Oh, I understand, there are a couple who take pleasure in such a thing, but I ignore those people. It's not worth my angst worrying about them. The same can be said of the very few Doom type posters...I generally ignore them.

Although an argument can be made that the Freak nerf is too harsh, there's no denying that they were perhaps the most sought after group teams wished to fight, AE or no. And for good reason. As the majority who have posted in this thread, I'm not surprised their XP was nerfed. I will say that I'm with the majority here that the nerf was a bit too harsh. And I have faith(call me a fanboi to your heart's content) that the Dev's will adjust accordingly if needed.

We have some pretty intelligent Dev's working for us. They also happen to play the game, probably more than we think. I for one, have confidence they have the majority of the player base in mind, combined with the integrity of the game, with whatever changes they make.
  5. Very hard to quantify...

    Some of my favorites:

    Dark/Ice Defender
    Peacebringer
    Katana/SR scrapper
    Spines/Dark scrapper
    Mind/Kinetic controller
    Stone/SS tank
    Warshade
    FF/Rad defender
    WP/Energy tank
    Stone/WP Brute
    Ill/Storm controller
    Mind/Rad controller
    Claws/Invuln scrapper
    Dark/Dark scrapper

etc, etc.....There are may different combos out there that are fun and powerful.
  6. The element of surprise has always appealed to me.

Can't handle dissention? Take it somewheres else, this drama gives me a headache.

I really expect more from you than this sort of drivel.

And hate to break it to ya.... I'm going No. and Where, in that order. Here to stay. Start dealing, because this is Rumor Control and that is a fact that you cannot do a single, solitary thing about. Cya, troll.
Just curious....but which of the nerfs do you oppose? All of them? One or more? Seriously, in intelligent discourse, there should be a distinction between nerfs and balance. With the exception of ED(which I have no problem with now), all of the 'nerfs' were properly made for balance issues. The VAST majority seem to approve of this. I'm still not sure what your current rants are about. Although...you do have a history of complaining just to complain....which is curious to me personally as you seem to have a higher than average intelligence.

The cone is huge. You won't have any problems hitting an entire group.
  9. I've never liked the rep system, and never will. I suggest turning your rep off permantly, and never looking at it again. Personally, I see the rep system as a juvenile way to bring up or down someone elses opinion. These opinions could very well be wrong, but intelligent discourse can't happen without dissent.

I'll forever wish the Dev's had forgone the rep system when we moved to this new forum. It only encourages cowards to bash posters, or come together to 'promote' certain posters to angelic status. Witty and entertaining is one thing...these posters should be applauded(and were before this rediculous rep system).

The rep system reminds me of high school....kind of like a popularity contest. It's juvenile, and should be above most posters....

Okay, I just want to say something before I help you. A pure Darkness Defender is one of the best defenders out there lol. Okay I'll give you some key powers you need-
    -Dark Servant
    -Tentacles
    -Your AoE heal
    -Your AoE rez
    -Your fear power
-Your sniper power(can't remember the name of it.)
-Tar patch(this is recommended to be one of the last powers you get because tentacles does a way better job.)
-there are two powers you should get in you mastery set:
--The endurance power(can't remember the name of it)
    --Oppressive gloom

Also this is not needed but highly recommended: get hover & flight and get fitness

    Technique while playing a darkness:
keep your Aoe heal on auto.
I stopped reading right here. Taking Tar Patch as one of your last powers isn't very good advice. Not only is it a slow, but it's a -30% resistance debuff. You should take it when it's available, and slot it with recharge asap. Use it whenever it's up.

No mention of Darkest Night? It's another huge to-hit debuff(-18.75% unslotted). Combined with Fearsome stare, unslotted, that's 37.5% to-hit debuff.

I would hardly ever advocate keeping Twilight Grasp on auto(in fact I have never done so myself). There should never be a need to heal every 4ish seconds.
  11. Wow, epic thread! I'm very pleased with the upcoming changes. The Super Group I'm in have a vast number of coalitions across three servers, and I can definately see the advantages of Super Sidekick. This will make teaming much easier as all of us have many characters of varying levels.

Of the very few who aren't interested or have negative feelings on this subject....they are entitled to their opinion. I've never been a fan of the reputation system, and I never will be. No matter how obnoxious someone is, you have an option to skip their posts or even put them on ignore.

This a hundred times. Perhaps a million times.

    .
I'm sure you're not the only one, but most of the people who agree with you have probably migrated to a different game. One of the things I liked the least from WoW was the giant numbers....which only got worse as level caps were raised. True, we're talking about games here, but there's a limit to how much my imagination will go.

I fervently hope that the level cap will never be raised in this game. There isn't a need for it. I play my level 50 characters more often than my lowbies for the simple fact that it's still fun for me to do so.
  14. It's not really very viable to slot for defense on a Tri-Form build....although, I have a little over 30% Ranged defense on mine. It's not very possible to squeeze out more without paying tons of Influence(or getting lucky with drops). I find that 30%+ works pretty darn well though.
  15. Sorry to see you go A.C. Like others, I was surprised to learn that you're only 18 years old. You show a tremendous amount of maturity, so I really think you'll excel in college.

Some great advice in this thread. The only thing I'd add(shameless plug for one of my favorite activities) Join a bowling league if you can afford it! Or a league of any kind; pool, darts, chess, Pinochle, Bridge, whatever. Extracurricular activities like these are a great way to wind down and a great way to make friends. And generally it's only for a couple of hours a week, so it won't dig into study time very much.
  16. Doesn't the first one feel great? Congrats!
  17. Cool, thanks ArcticFahx. I appreciate the info on Oppresive Gloom. I've yet to try it out, but will be respecing immediately. Cheers!
  18. I didn't try do fiddle with softcapping. Right now I'm at around 20% Defense and 52.5% resistance to Smashing/Lethal....certainly not perfect....but Cloak of Fear seems to do the trick(I'm gonna respec and try Oppressive Gloom soon to compare, perhaps even try to put up an updated guide).

As for KB, I used Acrobatics until I could afford two(One is probably enough for most content as Werner said)Steadfast -KB IOs, purchased in the early thirties.

I also don't have Hasten. I had enough End issues leveling to not bother adding to it. Personally, I don't think you need it. Between Throw Spines, Spine Burst, and Ripper, I'm kept pretty busy.
  19. Lots of options in this thread....

My one and only 'angel' character is an EM/WP Tanker. Still one of my favorite characters...
  20. Having just taken my Spines/DA to level 50 recently, here's my take:

Like many Scrapper combos it's a late bloomer. I had end and survivability issues until I hit the thirties and purchased some IOs. The survivability issues were only on very large teams that had problems controlling agro..namely, I was the one getting large amounts of agro.

The End issues were mainly if I soloed...on large teams, it wasn't as much of a problem.

When I hit the thirties and beyond, he simply got more and more powerful. Now at 50, fully IO'd, he's one of my most potent characters....and a joy to play. I shred spawns of minions easily, and can withstand anything short of AV's.

My humble advice is stick with it, but play on teams as much as possible, especially TFs, if you can. Pick up a Performance Shifter:Chance for End as quickly as you can. Use the mobility of Combat Jumping to jump just outside a spawn to better use Throw Spines. It's a huge cone, and probably my favorite Spines power.

In that case I'll probably hold onto it, at least until I have enough inf earned to list it at close to the market price. I've been burned by listing 15-million inf recipies at 1-million because that's all I could afford, and that's what they sold for.

    2) I don't know about the Lady Grey TF since I've never run that, but it's conceivable to make 50 on the Imperious TF in the scenario you posted. Time and how much exp you earn on the ITF depends on how you run it and at what difficulty. A "Kill-All" run at Invincible will take longer but you're guarateed to make 50 - assuming it's a level 50 mission.
For the most part I agree with this post.....

I also typically sell everything, and slot DO's at least until level 22...at which point, I slot a combination of SO's and cheap IO's....IO's being frankenslotted...level 15 IO's are about the same as DO's in effectiveness....DO's are cheaper generally though. I generally stick to frankenslotting and basic IO's until a character reaches level 47....

    g-a-y supergroup

Wow, this turned into quite an interesting thread. I come from a rather unique perspective in that I was brought up in a very religious Catholic family in a small town somewhere in the mid-west. Fast forward to September 1995...I moved to Seattle(mostly on a whim...another story for another time).

My first longterm job was as a salesman in a Futon company, and my three co-workers consisted of a straight man, a lesbian, and a gay man. After working with these wonderful people over a four year period, I came to not only love them, but understand completely where they were coming from psychologically. I was introduced to the very active gay community in Seattle, and found them to be amongst the most wonderful people I've met in my life.

With that said....going waaaayyyy back to the OP...I completely understand(even as a hetero man) why he was looking for a gay supergroup. Even a city as progressive as Seattle has it's fair share of bigots and idiots.

For my part, I'd join a gay SG/VG simply because IMHO, the gay community are some of most honest and incredible people I've ever met.

Sorry so late to the thread...I don't post very often, but just wanted to share my feelings on the matter.

Edit: I would vote for Dan Savage for any public office....this guy is freaking awesome!
  23. So...I was watching The Maltese Falcon tonight, and saw a place in the movie called the Midnight club. That got me to wondering...is this brief reference in any way related to the Midnighter's club here in CoH? I know that many names of places in CoH are pop culture(along with mythological) references, and was simply curious if anyone knew the origin in the name for the Midnighter's club. Of course it's entirely possible(perhaps even probable) that the name is merely coincidence.
  24. My latest level 50 character had about 45 Million Influence upon gaining level 47. Really one of my lowest overall considering how I slot/buy/sell(spending very little time on the market). I had been unlucky with drops(as a comparison, my previous character had over 350 million influence at about the same time).

I was well short of fully IOing this character with set bonuses(Spines/Dark). But....I WAS able to purchase all of the essentials to normal play. Only a couple of days later, he was fully IO'd(no purples obviously). It wasn't ideal, but he was more than playable....quite the contrary, he's been quite powerful in teams.

This jives pretty closely with Topdoc's post that 100 million is middle class(now).

Edit: The most glaring corners I had to cut was with PbAoE's. I slotted Cleaving Blow's and two Scirroco's in my aura attacks. The better sets were simply too expensive....for now...Total cost...about 80 million.
