I gotta say this is sounding better and better
-
Blaze looks sort of like a pink Hangman/Robin Hood hybrid.
We should be out and about today again. Look out! -
Did you get a team together for this? I've been meaning to get around to it for ages with my peacebringer but CoV is distracting me from it. Got the hunt done and all.
-
Just to clarify, the even scarier pink gimp is not me. I am the voice of reason in that group!
-
For what it's worth, I think I should be eliminated too and I was in a team with Stage last round.

What I havent had experience yet is of how doms (even with dom) do against AVs... do they actually pull their weight?
[/ QUOTE ]
No they don't and that's my number one complaint with the AT. I took part in an attempt of Lord Recluse strike force this weekend and when it came to fighting the heroes there, I felt a bit like a dead weight on the team to be honest.
AVs and elite bosses that have been downgraded from AVs have the 'purple triangle' mez protection, which is normally impossible to penetrate by a single dominator, even when Domination is up. When the purple triangles are down, the AV can be easily held with two stacked normal holds, easily found in many PPPs as well as several corruptor and mastermind powersets. Also, by the time AVs come along, the damage boost in Domination has substantially diminished in importance, because it doesn't boost enhanced damage. Slows are useful, though. But the aggro I draw is in no way in proportion with my contribution, and that makes things even more hard.

I was fighting Biff, and Arachnoid EB yesterday. He is a proper EB without purple triangles, so I could chain hold him, however he seems to have some kind of regen ability. With domination up I could reduce him to about 2/3 hp, but when it wore off it would creap back up until he was fully recovered by the time domination became active again, and so on ad infinitum.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, to be fair Biff does have insane regen so it's going to be tough for a class with moderate damage output. I'm generally pretty happy with my solo performance in the 40s. I can solo on Relentless very safely and with quite nice pace, provided I don't meet my Kryptonite (Portals that summon large amounts of Mu or, obviously, AVs/Heroes).
To be honest I think comparisons with some controller builds' damage are pointless because IMO the problem doesn't lie on the dominator side of the equation. Not that I want to call for nerfs. -
Hmm, what kind of dominator do you play? Since they've been datamining and found that some of the complaints have a basis, I'd say some kind of tweaks are warranted. Also, far more people seem to have trouble with their dominators than other ATs. Personally I really enjoy my mine but I think they can be a bit unapproachable and unforgiving of any errors in either power choices or gameplay by self or teammates.

Our Union SG, Legend, has had a few successful outings in Defiant Hollows with our all-pink all-defender team. Yesterday we even teamed with a few natives, which was great (although apparently we also scared some away. Before I joined the team, the others recruited a scrapper who took one look at them and quit the team)
So, if you see us, come say hi! There's a controller invasion in the works, too. -
Positron posted something on US dom boards:

States plays a plant/psi Dom (I think), I don't know what level he is yet. Around the end of April, I started a Fire/Energy Dominator on Justice. I'm level 37 now.
Fun? You bet, and I've played all the AT's in both games at pretty much every level. Dominators are definitely my cup of tea.
States and I -still- keep a close eye on Dominators. Datamining supports SOME of the claims made on these boards, but refutes others. Personal experience with the AT also lends credibility to some of the complaints, while showing others are simply blown out of porportion.
I read a bunch of the posts in this thread, not all of them though (yet). A lot of users hit the nail on the head when stating that you can't think of Dominator as "CoV's Controller". We went through a lot of effort to make sure that the ATs played and felt different between the two games. Dominators give up a bit of control for some good direct damage attacks that Controllers would give their left mouse button for.
Then of course there is the Domination ability, which is the real Jekyl and Hyde of the AT. A mild-manner Dominator with a full Domination bar can, at his or her discretion, become an unstoppable machine of destruction and control. While it never lasts "long enough" (even I am disappointed at hearing the sound effect of it wearing off), I've had missions where I have gotten Domination off four times from mission-entry to having Mission Complete appear on the screen. Good times indeed.
We've got a nice tweak to the Domination ability coming down the pipe (it will crank up your Mez resistance while it is active), and are currently data-mining PvP to see what effect our last set of tweaks to the AT have had.

The thread is huge and mostly worthless like most dom balance threads turn out on US forums. Anyway, any thoughts on the promised change, mez resistance while Domination is active? I wonder if he means protection or resistance, like AM. Either way, sounds great although personally I would have preferred to be buffed outside Domination. I feel we're binary enough as it is.
One thing I wish for is that control powers would draw less aggro from mobs not affected by them. If there is no taunting brute on the team and I cast Ice Slick on a spawn heavy on fliers, I might as well write my own death sentence. Also, in AV fights where I'm clearly the least threat in the team, it seems horribly unfair that the AV still comes gunning for me. But I digress. -
Personally I think that Leaping and Speed pools are by far the best choices for any Dominator. Leaping gives you some much needed mez protection. Hasten is an amazing power for a dominator and the stealth aspect in Super Speed is extremely helpful. However I could think of some uses for Teleport Foe too. Travel power is really a matter of personal choice for most builds so go with what you'd like.
-
Ice is a good primary. I wrote an ice/ice guide not long ago, it's in the guides section.
I like Thorns, IMO there are no bad powers in the set and it looks really scary. Filth is right though, the redrawing everytime you switch between primary and secondary makes it a little slow. On the other hand, the individual attacks do a little more damage and that makes it a little lighter on endurance, which could be good. Ice primary is endurance intensive due to Arctic Air. However you don't get as much mileage out of Aim as some other primary sets. The most important AoE controls in primary are IMO Ice Slick and Arctic Air, and they're both auto-hit. And you'd have two sets that are both a little slow building Domination. I don't think you can really go wrong, though, so if you have a concept in mind just go with it. -
One thing is I suspect brutes and corruptors get more invites than the rest. It's certainly what one hears.. "We need a brute", not "We need a stalker". A lot of people don't want too many MMs on the team because of lag and as for doms, I usually play one so I'm not sure how sought after they are if there's none on the team. Certainly with me there I've never heard calls for more dominators. However brutes and corruptors have a perfect synergy and a balanced brute/corr team doesn't really have much need for other ATs.
-
Actually, I'd be interested in this too. Jadis, Ice/Ice/Mu dominator and I'll be at least level 47 by then. I understand if you want to go for higher level or more debuffy types, though.
-
Wow, 2 teams in 3 months? That's really bad. Do you play at odd times?
I don't think getting teams is as much of a problem as getting good teams. PUGs on CoV seem to have a lot more tendency to be miserable than ones on CoH. I think that's most due to ATs having less defined roles. The PUG misery leads to people with a large acquaintance to only team with their friends and completely avoid pickup groups. Also, the CoV ATs are generally well suited for soloing. -
Isn't Power Boost just a 100% buff to the unenhanced value, though?
Is blaster Power Boost really available most of the time? Grr, I want that -
I am a bit annoyed because dominators seem to be uniquely disadvantaged against the AV -> EBs. After having fought quite a few lately, it seems to me that they retain both the AV mez shield that goes up and down and EB mag mez protection, so they're actually harder to hold than AVs.
I might be wrong though, sometimes it's hard to see the purple triangles in combat so I'm not always sure if the shield is up or down. All in all, it sucks and I don't really understand why the triangles have to be there.
-
Well, you have a lot of toggles there and SS seems pretty end heavy. Do you have Consume? I'd get rid of Weave as it's pants for a res based character and pretty expensive.
-
I have to chime in and say that at level 40 I still love my Nova and don't find myself faceplanting particularly much. Nova has better range than a blaster and two very large AoEs that do good damage, recharge quickly and are pretty cheap endurancewise. My only gripe is that changing from human to Nova takes a while so I end up wasting a bit of Build Up time. The two common complaints directed at Nova - that it's squishy and that it only has 4 attacks so it's boring - don't make much sense to me combined together. Change forms after launching the AoEs so you're both safer and less bored.

3 recharges opposed to 2 gives roughly half a second faster recharge on your single target hold. Personally I don't think it's worth it so I'm going with the classic 2 acc, 2 rech, 2 hold dur

Finally a voice of reason -
As fire/fire? Definitely leaping. Your life will be a lot easier if you take Combat Jumping and Acrobatics for immob and knockback protection.

I think I saw Arctyc Apocalypse on Union was 48 yesterday, that's the highest I have seen. I'm only 45 myself.

You've tried so?
[/ QUOTE ]
At least he has watched -
A third recharge reduction shaves off just a fraction of a second from the recharge. The second one might be worth it, IMHO a third is not.
-
It's not really clearcut and I've been wondering about that myself sometimes. Recharges sound really good for stacking until you start thinking about the way recharge enhancements work. Hold enhancements are additive so you get around 33% of the base duration more with each enhancement until ED kicks in. Recharge however is multiplicative, so the first recharge offers you way more benefit than the second and the third. I think I would personally go with 2/2/2 slotting for a corruptor hold, or even 2acc/3hold/1 recharge with Hasten.
